Thank you for purchasing our theme and for reaching us. I do understand your questions. I am happy to answer them.

1. Modifying core files of the bethlehem-extensions plugin or bethlehem theme is not desireable. The reason being they get overwritten on updates and we release update atleast every month.

2. The correct way to override these template files is to use a child theme. If you want to override you will have to override using template_include filter. I can help you with the template override functions.

3. If you can give me details about your 3rd party vendor I can check for the availability of the payment gateway. Alternatively you can also use the “offline donation” gateway to collect funds without having to have your own gateway.

1 – That totally makes sense, and I kinda suspected that might be the case. I’ll definitely leave the ZIP alone.

2 – I have created a child theme, but I’m unfamiliar with using template_include filters to override the core files. I’d love your help with these override functions. I already have written a bit of code in my child’s functions.php file…these new override functions would go in that same file, correct?

3 – We use a small, mom-n-pop payment vendor called Caring Habits Inc, and some at our organization are very adverse to collecting donor info “on our site,” even via a model window. We’re trying to make our case internally for moving to an established 3rd-party vendor and supporting the donation experience as crafted in your theme by default. But, getting leadership buy-in to this change won’t happen any time soon, so in the meantime we are directed to retain the integration/UX of our existing site (all [Donate] links open a whole new tab with the 3rd-party URL/donation form)

If the template_include filters from (2) can enable me to access & override that tag of the Reveal / Open Model Text button, then we can drop in our Google Analytics onClick tag and the external URL.

As we’re progressing with putting our new site together, a few additional questions have arisen that we’d like to ask if you can advise on as well:

• Is it possible to modify the URL of the various post type sections. For instance, alter the URL for the Causes section from /donations/ to instead reside at /our-mission-work/ (and therefore, each Donations Single page would reside at /our-mission-work/name-of-particular-cause)

• We wish to utilize the Sermons post type for availing all of our videos & podcasts, only a small % of which are actual sermons. So, we wish to modify the name of this section (e.g. to ‘Explore Our Videos’) on the site…can this be done?

• Similarly, is it possible at all to modify the name of a post type as it appears within the WP admin (e.g. change the label ‘Sermons’ in the WP admin menu/references elsewhere within WP to be ‘Videos’). I realize this one may be unlikely/tricky/risky but we’re curious if it’s even feasible (or, might it all get over-written with the next theme or WP upgrade??) Please advise.

• We’d like to keep the embedded Google Map on our contact page, but can’t seem to find where to configure the address it displays on page load.

Thank you again for reaching us. I am happy to answer your questions :

Points 1, 2 and 3 are achievable without worrying about being overwritten during updates. It needs custom coding and I will provide you with them.

4. The area below the header area is always populated either using “Featured Image” which goes as background image ( or via Theme Options incase of sermons, events, etc pages ) or via Static Content ( incase of Contact, About, etc pages ). Look for Contact Page Header in Static Content > Static Blocks. If you click on edit you will notice Google maps which you will be able to edit and change.

Paste the code given in above gists into your child theme’s functions.php ( only from line 2 of each gist ). Once you do that you need to flush rewrite rules by switching the theme and switching it back.

I will get back to you on sermons template override a little later.

We’ve integrated the edits to the functions.php file you provided, and it mostly appears to have done the trick. However, there appear to be two items that have arisen as a result of redefining the Donations slug to be “mission-work” that we’re hoping you can advise on:

1)  The URL for category pages of the Donations content type still contains the default slug 'donations' (e.g. /donations/category/vulnerable-children/) whereas we want the URL for such pages to retain our redefined slug  (e.g. /mission-work/category/vulnerable-children/).  Can this be accomplished with some additional code in our child' functions.php?

2)  Since pasting in the line of code you provided to redefine the Donations' default slug, an odd thing now appears on the pages for individual causes.  In the page's main container sandwiched in between the featured image and the H1 title of the Cause is a tall, text-only (not linked) listing of every Cause category.

We have 10 categories, so this tall list pushes all the other content waaaaaaay down. This category list appears with this div tag—> id=”give-sidebar-left” class=”give-sidebar give-single-form-sidebar-left” There is no such Category listing in the main body of the page on the theme’s demo site, and I’m not even sure how/why this appearance would be related to the redefining of the default slug we just did. How can we turn it’s display off or omit it from displaying on the Single Cause page template?

Lastly, I want to circle back to the other original request of our regarding how to access/edit the code of the of the Reveal / Open Model Text button on Single Cause pages. We need to 1) override the link to the Model window with an external link (in a new tab) to our 3rd-party payment vendor, and 2) drop in a custom Google Analytics onClick tag to capture metrics on clicks of these [Donate] buttons. Please advise.

Now, if I want to display all of them in a seperate page and I insert the shortcode, only display 6, how can I display all in the page? Thank you

I did assign the slider, but it just shows up blank….it works on other themes, but not on child Bethlehem theme

Thank you for reaching us. I believe it is showing the date updated. By default the theme shows all date published and date updated times for SEO purposes.

Thanks for the links. Few understood the problem. But I did not find solutions – I’m not a programmer at all. By the way, in addition to unnecessary time update, “og: description” includes also a duplicate title of the post. Thanks in advance.

The link I shared contains various plugins that allows you to modify the description or properly format the output as per OG guidelines. Are you using All-in-one SEO plugin ? If you do not wish to use it, try this plugin from Facebook : http://wordpress.org/plugins/facebook/

The above plugin will allow you to show better description. Also please make sure to use https://developers.facebook.com/tools/lint/ to check your results.
