Question before purchase: what is the difference between Valenti and 15zine? framework? css? functionality? thank you very much

Thanks for checking out Valenti and 15Zine 
The main difference between them is the core design – Valenti is more bold with its colors and contrast, and 15Zine is more minimalist.
They do share some things of course, such as the same system for the theme options and the homepage builder, but the options themselves vary a bit and the homepage modules available are quite different too (compare the modules themselves on both homepages).
Other things such as the review systems work differently too and the CSS has similarities in names (I coded both, so that is to be expected) but the actual CSS applied throughout is different to achieve the different designs.

Hi Cubell,
The post background image is not working when using Parallax featured image after updating to WP 4.5 this morning. Updated Valenti too with your 4-18 updated version too. No change 
It’s not attaching the image to the page. It’s the same background sitewide. Tried uploading it just for this page to see if that’s the issue. Still not working.
Did I misunderstand the update notes on the product page? Thought it said the rel issue was addressed for background images.

Ah that was a last quirk that has been addressed in 5.3. Try updating to that version (came out earlier today) and let me know if it fixes it

I’m thinking of buying this theme, but I have a few questions: 1. For a newssite I need to add a source with url when writing an article. Is it possible to add that behind the name of the author and the date?
2. Is it possible to set a default layout for an single article. Like: always without sidebar?
3. There is a light and dark menu. Is it possible to change that to red through Theme options or something like that? Or do I need to make my own CSS modifications?

Thanks for the interest in Valenti
1- What exactly do you mean by “behind the author and date”? If you literally mean a bit of text such as:
Source: www.somesite.com
Then you could install a free plugin such as this one: https://wordpress.org/plugins/source-affix/
2- For a sidebar, I’m afraid not yet in Valenti, however, I have already coded the option in my other theme (15Zine), and it will be coming to Valenti at some point.
3- The theme only has those two options, but to make it red you could easily do it by setting the menu to use the dark style (so font is white) and then copy/paste this css into the theme options > custom code > custom css box:
@media only screen and (min-width: 768px) {
#cb-nav-bar.cb-dark-menu { background-color: #000; }
}
And change the #000 value to your desired red color.

One more question, a little bit more tricky maybe:
On the homepage I want to build two sections to achieve the following:
SECTION 1: A slider with the 4 most recent newsitems
SECTION 2: A list with thumbnails containing the rest of the most recent newsitems. So starting from newsitem 5.
If I add a new newsitem to the slider in section 1, the oldest item from the slider should be shown in the list on section 2 automaticly.
To summarize what I want: Newsitems 7, 6, 5, 4 in the slider of section 1. Newsitems 3, 2, 1 in the thumbnail list of section 2.
If I add a new newsitem ( item 8 ), to the slider of section 1, the current 4th newsitem should be moved automaticly to the list in section 2.
So you get: Newsitems 8 (NEW item), 7, 6, 5 in the slider of section 1. Newsitems 4 (comes from slider), 3, 2, 1 in the thumbail list of section 2.
Is this possible?

1- Ah okay! The theme’s by line does actually have a special filter for users to hook their own content to the end of it, but it definitely requires WordPress coding knowledge and custom code to be able to add something like that, so you will almost definitely need to hire a developer, unless you can do it yourself. The filter is called:
'cb_byline_end'
And that will output at the end of the by line.
2- Will happen
4- The modules in the homepage builder do have an offset option, so you can definitely set it up to have no repeated posts throughout the moduels.
Slider showing the latest 6 posts: posts 1 -> 6 Module showing 3 posts -> Posts 7, 8, 9 another module, let’s say Grid of 4 posts -> Posts 10, 11, 12, 13
With post 1 being the latest published post and post 13 being the oldest post.

I’m afraid I don;t think that full-screen block will be possible as Valenti module blocks are bound by the theme’s site limit. The closest to that is this setup: http://valenti.cubellthemes.com/category/lifestyle/
And regarding the sidebar options, that global option hasn’t made it into the core theme yet but it will definitely happen in a future update! Until then search these comments because I have shared how to set all your existing posts to nosidebar in bulk within a few minutes

A new question: on the homepage I want to use the ‘Section With Latest Global Posts + Pagination’ but it outputs all posts, while above I’m already showing 7 recent posts. So I need an offset option like in the other sections. Can you fix that?

That latest posts block is controlled completely by WordPress, which is why there isn’t an offset option for it, however, depending on your setup you could install this plugin to omit categories from the block (that block is essentially WordPress’ default homepage posts list): https://wordpress.org/plugins/ultimate-category-excluder/

I’m not having any issues besides the Jetpack which I know you’re aware of and I’m sure a fix is on the horizon.
However, I didn’t want to use the comment section to ask for help, but I figured I’d use the support area for when I really need if I ever do.
All I was wanting to do is get the CSS for removing the titles and byline for sliders only. I know that there is an option for removing this, but it takes out both the slider and the grid. I just want to remove the slider stuff.
Reason being is because I post Memes and they already have text on them so I don’t want to make them hard to read when a user views the post.

On the Jetpack issue, I can’t seem to get it to sit well with the theme.
When I activate it seems to break the theme. The problems are the menu won’t follow as I scroll, the modules on the front page seem to touch each other and some of the photos in the sliders and grids are blank.
I tried it yesterday and that’s when I noticed the issue. Once I deactivated, the site was back to normal.
Also, I’m not sure if this is related to the theme or the WP 4.5 update, but I literally have to upload the same image before it stops giving me an HTTP error.

Ah I see! It could be because Jetpack adds lots of modules by default, try activating it again then go in to Jetpack and deactivate every single module. Then only activate the ones you need (such as stats). Because by default it activates things like infinite scroll and other things that the theme already has.

What update are you referring to? A quickfix update will be released soon to address a handful of minor bugs.
Regarding new posts, that is almost 100% due to caching. Check your cache plugin settings, as it must be caching your site hard and not refreshing automatically when you publish a post (some cache plugins have an option for this to happen automatically).

Aprovechando el aviso, un pregunta pequeña, ¿sabes si es posible cambiar el color texto de los encabezados del grid? No solamente agregar un fondo de cierto color, hablo de modificar el color del texto como tal.

Que raro! En mi demo local con WordPress 4.5 funciona perfecto, y muchos otros usuarios tambien estan en WP 4.5 sin ningun problema.
Aunque cambiaste de tema y te funciono, no significa que sea el tema. Intenta re-activar Valenti y despues actualiza tu cache (si tienes un plugin instalado), y si aun no funciona, intenta desactivando todos tus plugins y ve si funciona ahi.
Y para cambiar el color de los titulos de los grids, puedes usar este codigo CSS:
.cb-grid-block .cb-module-header h2 { color: #000; }

Lamentablemente sigo con los dos problemas. Ya incluso reinstalé el tema, borré el caché y desactivé los plugins, pero me sigue marcando el error HTTP y debo cambiar a Twenty Sixteen para subir mis imágenes; estoy casi seguro que es una falla con el 4.5 que está causando problemas con este hermoso tema.
E increíblemente, el código CSS no me funcionó tengo activados estos códigos en Theme Options si sirve de algo:

Awesome theme. I have a quick question about getting other custom post/content types to appear in the homepage (or other page) sliders. Now I’ve selected to have a category called “Podcasts” to appear as they are linked to the Seriously Simple Podcast plugin. There is a post type called podcast, and even in the function.php I’ve added the following

Are you using the latest Valenti version? Because in the latest update all modules in the homepage builder can now use custom taxonomies, you don’t need any special code, it will automatically pick them up. Have you tried that?

Hay una cosa que me pregunto si se podría añadir como una mejora de cara a una futura versión, y es incorporar una opción en las Theme Options para activar que se muestre hora de publicación de los posts. En cada nueva versión lo añado manualmente en el código, por mi parte puedo seguir haciéndolo así, pero creo que para una página de noticias es importante que se refleje la hora de publicación de una nueva noticia, por lo que creo que sería también interesante para otros usuarios de Valenti.

I have tested it on the local demo site with WordPress 4.5 and it seems to be working fine. Two buyers have reported issues with the gallery post type, but in my local demo site, it seems to work fine, so I suspect it is a cache/minify issue on the buyers’ sites.
WordPress 4.5 changed the jQuery/backbone scripts, so that will break a lot of themes and plugins, but as far as I can tell, Valenti is fine. If you do use the theme and discover a bug, report it and I will of course take a look at it and release a quickfix update if it is to do with the 4.5 update.

The theme;s background ad takeover system doesn’t output on mobile at all, Have you edited the theme code in any way? Or are you using a child-theme and overwriting major files (header.php for example)?
If possible, install a fresh latest version of the theme and it shouldn’t load on mobile at all.

most recent version of jet pack cratered the theme and the site. also, just upgraded to wp 4.5 and is now throwing a fatal error in the footer. kind of expected better from themeforest…

That Github.php error is actually not the theme, that file is how Envato tells us authors to include their official Envato Market plugin (plugin that allows users to update their Themeforest themes).
Envato was already aware of that bug in their script and they have updated it again, so I will include the latest github.php in the next theme update. Until then leave it commented.
And for Jetpack, can you go into the modules and deactivate any ones you don’t need (for example, the theme already has infinite scroll functionality, so no need for that module), and see if it works okay, because in my local demo site it seems to work fine.

I had a look and I think the issue is being caused by your “Meteor slides” plugin, which is outputting strange error in your site console. The same plugin may be breaking your video post.
So try disabling that plugin, refresh cache and see how you get on. If that doesn’t fix it, disable all plugins and refresh cache.
I tested the gallery post type on the local demo site and it works with no problems on WordPress 4.5

i have disabled and olso doesn´t work and Valenti popular post doesn´t work. it is a disaster update.
That isn’t great at all! But it doesn’t seem to be happening to any other Valenti users.
Try disabling every single plugin now and let me know, because I had a look and you still have lots of plugins enabled (I can see Google Calendar, anti spam, jetpack and others active).

I recommend waiting a bit! I’m going to launch a quickfix update soon to fix some minor bugs but before I do that I will try to test the theme in 4.5 as much as possible.
Two users (Below) have reported the gallery post type stops working, so I’m investigating it now and will try to fix it before releasing the next theme update.

The 5.2 update broke the Background Image options for the blog. If I set the background image to anything but “repeat”, it doesnt show up. It used to earlier, but with the new update, it doesn’t.

Hello Cubell, is there a way to use the Valenti Top Reviews widget with posts not containing reviews? Even with shortcode is there anything close to that? Any code-tweak?
I want to show more posts on the sidebar, but with big, wide grid-like thumbnails and this widget is the best available but unfortunately it cannot work with all post types.

I’m afraid not, that widget is coded to be for reviews. However, I may consider adding that design style to the latest posts widget. Have you tried the “big style” in that widget though? It’s a different design but does have large thumbnails.
