Please help clarify the files I received. There is the main Foundry folder with the Variant folder inside. So I understand that I can launch Variant using my browser and don’t need to install on my server. What about the other files inside the Foundry folder? Are these for uploading to host server? Please explain the nature of the files and their purposes. Thank you.
Hi,
Foundry is first and foremost an HTML template. The files you see in the foundry folder are all of the templates you would use if you were constructing from HTML. The folders are required when you upload to your server, they contain all of the script and CSS files, images and other assets required to make the pages appear properly.
When you export a .html page from Variant, you place it in that folder so it has access to the js, css, fonts, img etc. folders to display properly.
You need to upload those folders to your server, but not the sample html files. You should not upload the variant folder either.

Hi, Yes, your single license grants you permission to use Stack and Variant to create one site for a client. A single license will then need to be purchased for each other client website you build using the Stack package.
Variant is not designed and not licensed to run in a hosting “Site Generator” environment.

I have a fresh copy of the latest version of Foundry. I just spend 3 hours building a page in Variant. When I went to export the HTML, it only included the default <head> elements and HTML tag, none of the content. I also used the “Download HTML File” option – same result. I tried saving the page as a .variant file, then refreshed the page. Everything except the first section was gone. If I import the variant file that I saved, same result. I just lost 3 hours of work.

This can happen if the local storage of your browser was erased while Variant is open. Some browser plugins affect the cookies and storage which Variant uses to store your pages and settings.
Do you happen to have any privacy plugins for your browser which might cause cookies and other data to be deleted when a tab or a window closes?

builder.html never loads so I can’t make any updates to my site. I’ve tried to submit a ticket but my support is expired. I tried to locate an email and could not. If I purchased the product, I should at least have minimal support to ensure that the product works.

Are you using Safari by any chance? If so, then you will need to allow local storage by editing your settings. However, please use Chrome or Firefox, because Safari does not allow exporting your pages.

Hi,
Variant is to be used locally on your own machine. Variant generates .html files and cannot live-update files on a server.
Pages are stored in the browser storage. No server installation required. Just be sure to save a .variant file backup each time you upload your site.
