Hi,

Could you please let me know where is an option for making header transparent? There is this option for sticky header but I can’t find it for normal state.

Thank you

Hi,

The header doesn’t have any background by default so it is “transparent”. Now if what you want to do is have content under the header then you basically want a “fixed” header which you can do as mentioned here – https://wpexplorer-themes.com/total/docs/overlay-header/

ps: I noticed your support license has expired, if at this time you can renew your support license I would really appreciate it. You can also purchase a new copy of the theme for another site/client and it will also renew your support. A support renewal is around $41 so if instead you purchase a new license of the theme you essentially will get a new license for only $17 to use on another site and a support renewal. If financially you can’t at this time I understand but would really appreciate it since I spend a lot of time and money supporting and updating the product – thank you!

Hi! Newly purchased the total theme bundled with (among other things) Revolution Slider.

Revolution slider does not install using the dashboard and is not recognized when installed via FTP. Everything else has been successfully installed.

Here’s the error message when trying trying to install to MYHOST NAME website:

Download failed. cURL error 6: Could not resolve host: MYHOST NAME.com

Plugin not activated. A higher version of Slider Revolution is needed for this theme. Please update the plugin.

Anyone have any ideas what to do next?

Thanks!

Hey AJ,

Installing revslider.zip (dated 2017-9-8) via FTP results in no recognition of the plugin at the dashboard and installing via wp returns an ominous message “Are you sure you want to do this?” with no other option than to try again.

The unzipped FTP files are landing in the similar wp-content directory as the other functioning plugins. And yes, an Templatera and updated VC installed and operate. I was also able to install the competing slider, layer slider, with no problems.

I’ve been having problems with this install over the past few, even did a full WP reinstall, thinking the permissions were the problem, but the problem persists.

Is this an issue that can be solved with an FTP peek?

-B

Hi again,

I was wandering around Cpanel looking for something askew, (kinda like “banging on the drums like a chimpanzee”) did another FTP upload and what do you know, the revolution slider is installed!

For posterity sake, I’m not sure of what was going on but I’ve got website work to do and I ain’t gonna look back.

Thanks for your help, JA!

-B

Hi,

Ha, I’m glad you got it fixed up! Normally the message “Are you sure you want to do this?” isn’t a permissions error. It’s usually a memory limit error or Max Post Size error.

I would recommend looking in the main Revolution Slider dashboard and making sure your server meets all the requirements just to prevent any issues later on – https://cl.ly/nCK7 (this is on the main Slider Revolution page).

Any idea why I’ve gotten these errors at densecomfortsolutions.com?

Hi,

If you didn’t make any edits then it could only be an issue with the host or your site may have been hacked. It’s not possible for things to just break without something changing and theme’s and plugins don’t do any auto processes, everything the theme or plugins do requires the user to input data. The fact that you are now seeing errors from the slider plugin also suggests it’s not just a theme bug but something with the installation.

Did your server make any updates recently or migrate your site’s to a new location?

Have you made sure your WordPress site/server is secure (using a Firewall, secure passwords, making sure the WordPress security keys&salts are good, preventing brute force attacks on the login page…etc)?

Do you have a backup of your site before the issue happened? The easiest way to fix would be to revert to a recent backup and then make sure your site is secure.

Of course if you would like you can send me WordPress and FTP logins so I can have a look for you and try and figure out exactly whats going on without having to revert to a backup or re-install things. You will have to renew your support license and submit a ticket here – https://wpexplorer-themes.com/support/ – simply request your ticket be forwarded to AJ so I can help.

Because these aren’t normal issues related to the theme or plugin it can take some time to figure out what happened and get things fixed up. So any extra info you can provide really helps (like if someone installed a new plugin, if your PHP version was updated, if you made any recent updates to WordPress, the theme or plugins…etc). Thanks!

If you prefer to do the troubleshooting yourself let me know and I can give you the step process I would take to get things back on track (let me know though if you are able to access the WordPress dashboard or if you only get the errors and a blank page).

Hey guys, The background color option is not working. When you go to Customizing > General theme options > Site backgrounds > when you pick a color is not loading. You can only pick a background pattern. Can you check? Thanks!

Hi,

There is a known bug in the last update but it only affects the “boxed” layout – https://wpexplorer-themes.com/total/docs/theme-layouts/ – the updated theme with the fix will be out shortly. If you want to fix yourself for now here is the updated file – https://cl.ly/nA5m – you can update via FTP at Total/framework/customizer/settings/ – I apologize for the inconvenience.

- AJ

Thanks for the info AJ!

Hi AJ, any tips on how to speed up the initial load of this homepage https://nreg.com.au I have W3 Total Cache installed and went through the process of copying the js & stylesheet shown in PageSpeed Insights following steps on this tutorial http://www.wpbeginner.com/wp-tutorials/how-to-fix-render-blocking-javascript-and-css-in-wordpress/, but revolution slider stopped working so i’ve switched minify off again. Any tips that are Total theme specific? Cheers Lucy

Hi Lucy,

  • Following the guide you mentioned is probably just a waste of time to be honest. Actually moving your scripts doesn’t do anything for site speed. It may increase your “score” a little but not actually improve your loading time.
  • Using Minify can provide a tiny boost in site speed but it may not be even be visible to the user because it’s not a large enough increase in speed.

A common mistake is to focus so much on the “score” which is most of the time irrelevant. I can make a really slow server get a 100% Google score but still load in 10 seconds. Same thing I could make a wesbite have a score of 30 but load in 1 second on a good server.

So don’t even look at the score…Focus on the “waterfall” – in other words what is actually taking time to load on the site.

Here is a screenshot testing using Gtmetrix – https://cl.ly/n9Id – as you can see it’s taking almost a second just for your server to respond with the site content (first line of the waterfall). And then all your scripts and images are taking a bit to load. It’s not insanely slow but it is a bit slower then you may want.

You can see your site compared to my landing page – https://cl.ly/nAHQ – my landing page doesn’t use any minifying or script deferring, it is 4x larger and it makes 3x the requests, but it gets a much higher score and loads quicker. This is simply because of how quickly the site assets load.

Where is your site hosted and on what plan?

If you are paying anything less then $20/month for WordPress hosting you can’t really expect very fast loading times for your assets. But even on the best hosting solutions it’s always good to use a CDN to host your assets.

If your hosting company supports it you could try out CloudFlare which is a Free CDN. I actually use it on my site to prevent bot spam as an added firewall but it also helps images and scripts load faster.

I have more info on site speed here: https://wpexplorer-themes.com/total/docs/speeding-site/

- AJ

Thanks so much for your advice AJ – it’s really helpful. I know Speedtest is just for a guide, but I was more concerned when I was testing the website myself and the homepage was taking 6 seconds to load in some browsers. The other pages are fine and loading super fast – although we do have ancient internet technology in Australia, so I’m sure that doesn’t help :) We are on a cheaper hosting plan, however they are pretty fast and optimised for wordpress at least. I have looked into it and they do support Cloudfare so will sort that out this week – I didn’t really know what a CDN was before, but sounds like it will help. Thanks again, Lucy

Hi Lucy,

Great, I’m happy to help. Also just so you know…your homepage loads in 1.34 seconds for me – https://cl.ly/nBrz (see red text at bottom of the screenshot). So it’s definitely not slow.

- AJ

hi, just checking and learning to use the Dynamic post template. it is great! Only question, is there a wat to add “related posts” to this templates? Thank you!

Hi,

You could use the post type grid or the post type carousel and display “recent” items for the current post. There isn’t a built-in way to display related because people think of related in different ways “categories, tags, name, date…”. So I’m not sure what the best way would be to include that functionality built-in. If you have any input, let me know!

That said, you can actually target any query in the Total vc modules via some code – https://wpexplorer-themes.com/total/snippets/total-grid-query-filter/ – so if you want a grid/carousel of items related to the current post’s primary category you can using this filter.

Hi AJ

Questions:

- Is it possible to disable (or remove) the Portfolio, Staff and Testimonials Custom fields from the main dashboard?

I am using child them by the way.

Regards M

Removing the background on the sticky header is very easy with a little CSS like this:

#site-header-sticky-wrapper.is-sticky #site-header { background: none !important; -webkit-box-shadow: none; -moz-box-shadow: none;box-shadow: none; }

The code will also remove the dropshadow which I assume you also want removed.

  • To display the custom post types instead of creating your own “Staff Grid” module you can use the “Post Type Grid”, “Post Types Carousel” or “Post Types Slider” to display your items.

Of course if you want to create your own modules it’s not very hard at all – https://wpexplorer-themes.com/total/docs/new-vc-module/

- AJ

ps: In the future please log in with the correct account used to make the purchase or I won’t be able to assist you. I know you purchased the theme but I can’t make any exceptions. With so many customers and daily comments/emails, over time it’s impossible to keep track of everyone. Also I have no way of verifying if a customer has received a refund for the product. So in the comments I only support those with the purchased label next to the username. Thank you for understanding. In order to be fair the rules must apply to everyone ;)

Thanks a lot .. Fair enough … next time i ll post with the name i used to purchase the product

Hi there, I have added a video from Vimeo using raw html in order to have the video autoplay. It works perfectly. However, when it displays on the vertical mobile phone it has big black frames (for lack of a better word) top and bottom of the actual video. I feel like there’s a simple solution but I’m not sure what it is. Please help if you can. Many thanks!

Hi,

This happens because vimeo will try and keep your video aspect ratio no matter the containing width (to prevent the sides from cutting off or losing proportions) and on mobile devices you have a lot less room for the video.

- AJ

AJ, I found a solution that works perfectly at the following url so please chare the code if you feel it’s worth it: https://www.ostraining.com/blog/coding/responsive-videos/

Best, Robert

Hi Robert,

Thank you for your patience over the weekend.

Sorry I didn’t realize you were using the raw html module (I totally missed it). Total does have this exact same CSS fix built-in which you can use instead of adding your own – https://wpexplorer-themes.com/total/docs/insertembed-videos-custom-parameters/

So you just have to use the theme’s classname in the module (see the bottom of the doc article).

Sorry for not catching that previously!

- AJ

I used the total them “image size” adjustment to change the size of images in woo cart and then i deleted the custom size and now 2 duplicate images are displayed in the cart page. how can i fix this?!?

Hi,

Did you make any other changes. Simply tweaking the image size shouldn’t ever cause this (it’s actually impossible) because the image sizes just defines the size it doesn’t add any extra elements. I did a test here so you can see: https://cl.ly/n942

Can you share the URL with the issue so I can inspect the code? Thanks!

- AJ

I was a simple clear cache fix…

Great, glad you resolved the issue ;)

Is there a way to force “local-scroll” class to be added to all main menu items? I want to add Google Translate links with plugin Gtranslate to main menu, but mobile menu does not disappear after I click the menu link (link works as it should though).

Can you please share the URL so I can have a look? I’m not familiar with that plugin. And this way I can give you the best possible solution.

- AJ

I want to know if there is a way to make a total “post type grid” (product) to open the product in a lightbox to make variable selections and add to cart.

There isn’t any built-in way for this. That’s actually a very complex and huge functionality so it’s best done via a plugin. Basically you’ll want to look for a good “quick view” plugin to use with WooCommerce and instead of the post type grid you’ll want to insert your WooCommerce products using their own module/shortcodes so that the quick view functionality works.

- AJ

Hi AJ

Thank you excellent theme and wonderful support.

One difficulty we’re experiencing:

We’re using a Woocommerce Page Builder with the Total Theme (new site for new client)

Woocommerce Page Builder has introduced custom layout templates to be applied to Woocommerce categories. The custom templates with Woocommerce Page Builder work via privately published pages where with the use of Visual Composer and 2 of their shortcodes the Product Category Pages are customised.

The plugin adds 2 dropdowns to Product Category editor – to choose layout templates for all single products in category and to a category page layout itself. Single product layouts are working (with some CSS modifications) but Category Page Layouts are not.

Single product example: https://clinical.skincare.city/product/anti-radical-rejuvenation-eye-creme/

Category layout example (not working – with applied category template layout): https://clinical.skincare.city/product-category/clinical-skincare/

What do you think we should do, what to enable or disable in Total Theme (or in the plugin) to make the plugin compatible?

We’re doing a site for new client and custom layouts for woocommerce pages/products/categories is very important to them.

Also, we’ll get another licence for this site (currently on: https://clinical.skincare.city)

Hi AJ

Thanks for reply. Yes, I agree, there’s actually quite a lot of modules that’d need adding if Dynamic Templating would be enabled for WooCommerce some day. But, on the other side, there are already some modules present in the Total that could be used for the purpose.

Template Panel is the treasure of tools :)

For the archives, yes, the functionality should be reflecting archives if enabled for Dynamic Templates. I can’t go into details here, but that would require a hefty use of archive elements in Visual Composer. Since query elements are already there the extensions for these could be useful.

About Woocommerce categories, what we’d like to achieve is to give clients an option of simply modifying the category page archives further from design in Customiser and give them the ability to layout page with VC. I agree, that could be done with hooks but some clients like to change their minds and have different categories in different layouts etc ..

Sorry for the link. It was a temporary bug while working on WooComposer integration. It’s back now – or it should be.

Additional site will be created for the other plugin, Woocommerce Page Builder at: https://woopagebuilder.skincare.city

Thanks AJ

Oh…So the implementation of VC for archives isn’t necessarily to modify the design right now. But to give your client the ability in the future if they so desire?

Seems reasonable to me ;) Sounds like you guys really care about the client.

- AJ

Hi AJ Oh yes, it is going to be in use right now, with the use of VC to modify design on archive product pages. Some clients have many demands, but let’s see. Thanks

I just installed UBER menu and used automatic configuration Main / Header for the location. works well on large format, but mobile gives me the word “undefined” when I click the hamburg menu. what am I missing?

Thanks this helps!

You have 2 options:

1. Set the Total mobile menu style to “Disabled” – https://wpexplorer-themes.com/total/docs/mobile-menu-styles/ – so it will use the UberMenu mobile menu.

2. Create a custom mobile menu – https://wpexplorer-themes.com/total/docs/create-custom-mobile-menu/

The reason it’s showing “undefined” is because the theme uses javascript to grab the menu items but when you use the Ubermenu as you’ve done it renames the default menu element so the mobile menu can’t find it.

If you have any follow up questions or concerns let me know.

- AJ

only issue I am running into is on mobile the menu will not appear under the logo and the menu sub items do not push the page down on header one like header two. Just wanted to maintain only one menu, but will go to an alternative mobile if need be?

Hi,

This is because of the default absolute positioning of the header style 1 menu. But you can use some CSS to override it:

@media screen and (max-width: 959px) {
  body .navbar-style-one {
    position: static;
    top: auto;
    left : auto;
    margin: 20px 0 0;
    height: auto;
  }
}

Alternatively instead of having the uber menu auto replace the theme menu you could just setup the header using the builder function – https://wpexplorer-themes.com/total/docs/header-builder/ – and insert your ubermenu using the shortcode – http://sevenspark.com/docs/ubermenu-3/integration/shortcode

This should give you more control over how things are added/displayed.

- AJ

Hello! One question:Does this theme fully support a plugin named memberpress?

Hi,

I don’t have experience with the memberpress plugin. However, as long as the plugin is well coded you shouldn’t have issues (plugins generally should work with all themes). I would be more then happy to work with the team as well if there are any incompatibilities to get them fixed up.

This plugin is $119/year which is pricey for a plugin. So if you have any problems or need help making design changes I would imagine they provide high quality support to their customers.

- AJ

Hi, these errors were found on the theme and I would like to request an update.

1 PHP Fatal error: Call to undefined function is_singular() in /nas/content/live/stonehardscape/wp-content/themes/Total/index.php on line 18

1 PHP Fatal error: Call to undefined function is_singular() in /nas/content/live/stonehardscape/wp-content/themes/total-child-theme-master/index.php on line 18

Thank you.

Hi,

I’d be happy to help, but these aren’t errors with the theme. The function is_singular() is a WordPress core function – https://codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/is_singular – added in WordPress version 1.5.0

It’s pretty much impossible to get this error unless your version of WordPress is extremely old or it’s not installed completely or you were recently hacked.

Can you please double check (you can always go to Dashboard > Updates and click on the re-install Wordpress button to make sure all core files are there).

More importantly though, line 18 of index.php doesn’t use this function – https://cl.ly/n7X8 – and the is_singular() function isn’t even used on the index.php file at all. Did someone modify your files? Are you actually referring to the same product I’m selling?

- AJ

Hey,

I’m reaching out because your email is rejecting all of our replies on the ticket system but also I tried emailing you directly from various emails and they are being rejected as well. Just wanted to let you know as I can’t figure out any better way to reach out to you. Luckily you had this one comment here ;) Hopefully you see this.

Feel free to reach out to me at wpexplorer [at] gmail [dot] com – Your @teamhorner.com email is rejecting all of our emails if you can whitelist our support email if not maybe we can change the email used for your username in the ticket system to something else, let me know!

- AJ

Hi AJ,

I have 2 questions about the theme.

1. Is it possible to have 2 image backgrounds on a full row? I.e. you have a background-image on the left side and on the right side? (See https://i.imgur.com/pbYgpDb.jpg for an example).

2. Is this theme compatible to combine with some custom jQuery to create a nice scrolling effect between sections? Such as http://www.thepetedesign.com/demos/onepage_scroll_demo.html

Regards, Rafael

Hello AJ,

I have found a quite easy workaround for the first option, thank you.

I think the jQuery plug-in for smooth scrolling should be no problem either as I have used it before in own created themes.

Thank you!

Awesome!

I would love to include the smooth scroll function by default in a future update. If you have any suggestions on how I may implement it, let me know!

You own 30+ licenses now of Total – wow, thanks Rafael ;) I sent you an exclusive invite to a slack channel where you can reach out to me whenever needed (using the email registered on our support site).

- AJ

Hi AJ,

I’m not sure about how I am going to implement it myself yet, but if the design for the website gets approved I will let you know/see the website with smooth-scrolling once it’s ready!

And thank you very much! Absolutely love the theme, pretty much any design made by my colleagues I can pretty easily re-create with the Total theme AND it stays very user friendly for our customers aswell.

Thanks!

is it possible to set a standard margin between header/border and page/post? Or how to set the margin on the single page site of the blog?

Hi,

Definitely. I’m assuming you disabled the page title site wide via the Customizer. Is that correct? Can you confirm?

Also would the margin/border be for the blog posts only but also archives?

If you want to share the URL I can have a look and give you my recommendations based on your layout/design.

- AJ

Hidden Page Header Title Spacing <3 found it. thx

Hello, my client wants a full screen picture with his logo in the middle and (if you scroll down) the menu right under that picture. I tried different ways, but I don’t get it. It’s a onepage site. Can you help me with that? Thanks in advance!

Hi AJ, what I want is the image full width AND higth with the logo in the middle of the page and the logo also in the menu. Almost like here: www.hellefreude.com

Hi,

Oh, this – hellefreude.com – is very different.

Do you want the full-screen section on every page or only on the homepage?

If it’s for the homepage it’s very easy:

  • Create a new slider using the Slider Revolution plugin and set it to full-screen – this will have your background and whatever text you want.

Now…if you want this section added to ALL pages then you should be using a theme hook – http://wpexplorer-themes.com/total/docs/action-hooks/ – to insert your custom full-screen section before the header on all pages.

- AJ

Now it works. Thanks for your help! :)

Hey AJ. Is compatibility with WooCommerce 3.2.1 coming in soon or are we OK to update WooCommerce already ??

3.2.1 was just small fixes – https://woocommerce.wordpress.com/2017/10/13/woocommerce-3-2-1-fix-release-notes/ – you should be fine to update.

The only time the theme would really need updating is when they make changes to core functions/templates or CSS.

If you do have any problems let me know, I didn’t notice any issues with the update.

- AJ

Thanks AJ
