Yes, you can add any element to split slider, but as you can see here -> http://penumbra.edge-themes.com/split-slider/ we used only static content within splitscreen slider because if you add some dynamic elements you will have problems on touch screens.

Unfortunately, not, but you can import all demo content to your website and then just change images and text for your portfolio items.

Please try contacting your hosting provider and ask them to increase your PHP version to the one suggested by wordpress here: https://wordpress.org/about/requirements/ We also suggest PHP version 7.0 but they can change it to anything inbetween 5.6 and 7.0
