Hi there, I found a very small bug! I have retina images chosen for my blog archive, and it works great. I also have infinite scroll enabled.

When I scroll down, the newly loaded blog post’s featured images do not display the retina image, only the standard definition image. You can see this happen right here http://tektonpf.com/blog/

Just so you know!

Hi,

This is AJ the theme developer. Thank you so much for reporting the but. I am adding a fix right now for Total version 4.6.2!

Have a great weekend and if you see anything else, let me know.

- AJ

Just finished adding the fix. I’ve also updated the retina.js script to the latest/better version ;) So thanks for bringing this up!

Great, glad to help!

Hi,

I am developing locally (no hosting). I notice that a lot of support requires checking what a user has done directly on their site. Since I don’t have hosting for now, do you have any recommendations if I have a support question? Is there such a thing as temporary hosting just for support? Or can I give you access to my local pc where I am developing the site (if so, what is the best way for you)?

Thank you.

Hi,

Actually most questions don’t require logging into the site since we can recreate instances locally ourselves to test. If you have questions just ask away and I’ll help as best as possible. Most customers do work locally and usually most issues where we have to log in is because the live site has either server issues or a 3rd party plugin is breaking things.

Hi AJ,

Apparently the VC toggle doesn’t work on IE11 and Edge. I can’t check since I’m on a Mac. But I had it checked and received a screenshot of the console. There are some errors that don’t show within Chrome. One is:

Script5007: Unable to het property ‘get’ of undefined or null reference. 1520951894index.js (43,1)

Is there anyway for you to check? The url is: https://www.tk-vastgoed.nl/vraag-antwoord/

Hi AJ,

I placed two questions outside of the Tour. I checked using crossbrowsertesting.com, but the toggle doesn’t work outside of the Tour element either (why I never found out about that tool!). See https://www.tk-vastgoed.nl/vraag-antwoord-testestest/

What to do?

Very weird…

Can you confirm that you don’t have issues on my page here? http://totaltheme.wpengine.com/features/builder-modules/faqs/

By any chance are you using CloudFlare? I know there is a Rocket Loader feature which could randomly break javascript functions.

Also can you try with the W3C minification disabled incase that’s causing some issue?

Sorry I haven’t been of so much help but because it’s only happening on your site and on IE it’s a bit hard to troubleshoot from my end. Thank you for understanding.

- AJ

OK, that’s not good. I will investigate some further. It might have something to do with the use of Ubermenu. I tried disabling cache altogether to test with Java minification. But that doesn’t do anything. In console there is a nice red warning though. Something is wrong on line 43 of some Javafile. SCRIPT5007: Unable to get property ‘get’ of undifined or null reference 1520951894index.js (43,1)

Thank god it’s raining and I have nothing better to do ;)

I am new to WP and am trying to use Total for a new website. I imported the Charlotte demo and was experimenting, and got to a point where I needed to reset and start over. When I did that and reinstalled Total and re-imported the Charlotte demo, the slider no longer works. It says

“No slides found, please add at least one Slide Template to the chosen language”.

Not sure what went wrong. I have not separately purchased Slider Revolution, thought it was a part of the Total theme.

Clues? Suggestions?

Hi,

Thank you for your patience, I’ve been stuck in Jury duty lately :(

Regarding the import, it sounds like maybe the slider didn’t import or wasn’t deleted while resetting. But it’s VERY easy to fix! You can simply go to re-import the demo but when you do so only select the slides like such – https://cl.ly/qXml

Then you can copy the shortcode of the imported slider and replace it on the homepage settings like such – https://cl.ly/qZ3F

Happy Easter Weekend ;)

Hi there Great theme!

Quick question, I’m trying to run a website that uses total theme through Web Accessibility Checker achecker.ca and for some reason it always gives me a 504 Gateway Time-out error for any of my websites that use the Total theme. I’m wondering if you could possibly explain why and how I could remedy this.

Thanks

Hi,

I’m glad you like the theme ;)

Unfortunately there is no way to know why that website would crash (a 504 error comes from their end) it’s possible they have something incorrectly coded causing an endless loop.

I did test with my demo and while their site is slow it does work – https://cl.ly/qYld (I get some errors because I didn’t add alt tags to my images on the homepage…I should go add those alts.

There are better checkers out there though such as this one – http://wave.webaim.org/

I am actually working with the University of Hawaii (they use Total) for best possible compliance and I’ve been pushing out updates/fixes for Accessibility in almost every update (things change often or new things are found). If you find anything let me know so I can fix it!

- AJ

Hey AJ, thanks for the response and the info. Question: Is it difficult to add alt tags to the icons/homepage images etc?

Any idea where I can do this? Any help is appreciated.

Thanks man

Hi,

Thank you for your patience (I had to leave town and just got back – it’s not typical for me to do this).

Adding alt tags is very easy but it depends how the images are added tot he homepage. Can you share the URL so I can see?

- AJ

Hello AJ,

I’ve placed a Total Button at the same level as a Portfolio Grid pagination (above the fold), with a negative top margin, but it can’t be clicked.

I’ve tried adjusting its z-index in vain. Maybe you’ll have a better way, thanks in advance.

Captures : http://pnet.fr/Button-under-page-numbers.png

Michel

Hi Michel,

Adding z-index does work for me, did you also give it a relative position? z-index doesn’t work on static position.

Example: https://cl.ly/qYNc

Make sure to give the module a unique ID or classname you can target (I see it doesn’t have one yet).

- AJ

Hello AJ, thank you indeed for your help, it works fine now :-)

Michel

Hi AJ,

If I wanted to move the dot navigation to the top of the testimonials carousel, how can I do that?

I looked in the carousel and testimonials modules but don’t know where it is to set it. Here is the page that I am trying to make the change to:

https://bit.ly/2E1RV64

Thanks

Joanna

Hi AJ,

any chance you could help me with the above request?

Thanks Joanna

HI Joanna,

Thank you for your patience, I’ve been dealing with Jury duty lately.

You can do this with a little custom CSS. Example:

body .wpex-carousel .owl-dots {
    position: absolute;
    margin: 0;
    padding: 0;
    top: -55px;
    right: 0;
    height: 10px;
}

Resut: https://cl.ly/qYNd

- AJ

Thanks AJ.

Incidentally I am scheduled for jury duty too. :o)

Have a nice weekend.

Joanna

Hi,

I wanted to open a ticket, but I can’t send attachments/JPG. There is always an error message.

See the JPG, It explains itself. The same problem is also on the “Home-Site”. Or do I have to use other tabs? I hope there is a solution to the problem.

Website: http://bit.ly/2GhKeKP

pictures: http://bit.ly/2IapAg5 http://bit.ly/2GAxFgU http://bit.ly/2I7v3o3

Best regards

Hi,

This is AJ the theme developer. Thank you for your patience. I tested the form and I don’t see any issue with uploads and I see other customers have uploaded images so not sure why it wasn’t working for you :(

Regarding the tabs…The issue is with some CSS in your child theme which is setting tabs to 20% always, see here: https://cl.ly/qXpF

By default the tabs should go 100% on mobile devices like these examples – http://totaltheme.wpengine.com/features/builder-modules/tours/

In your child theme if you want to set a fixed width like 20% wrap it in a media query so it only targets the desktop sizes.

- AJ

Thanks for the best support. :-) Everything works now. It was my fault.

Hi Aj, I have added the mobile menu to the desktop also, as I think my client will love it. But then.. when I press the button..and the menu it is opened, the X to close the menu is not just in the same place as the hamburguer button… I have seen other demos that you can open close menu with out moving the cursor….

https://omadstudio.com/inicio/

here the example.. http://aalto.edge-themes.com/contact-us/

Hi,

What’s happening on the other site is that the header is visible through the overlay.

Total doesn’t do this by default because with all the various options available and hooks if a customer tweaks anything in the header the placement could cause lots of issues. It only works in very simple header setups.

It could be possible to tweak the theme for this to work but it’s going to require quite a few tweaks – the overlay will have to be moved into the main wrapper and then the header will require a z-index higher then the overlay menu (best added/removed dynamically when clicking the toggle as the z-index could cause issues with 3rd party plugins).

Since no other customers have asked for this I don’t think I’ll alter the entire code for this, however, if all you want to do is move the x over it could be possible without too much trouble (adding a fixed height to your header via CSS, then adding a fixed height to the container with the x, then adding a little javascript to place the x inside a container). If you want I can help with the code for that and we should at least be able to move the x arrow over to be placed in the same location.

Generally speaking though when you open a menu you are most likely to click and go to another page, not close the menu ;)

- AJ

Hi AJ! Thank you for your rapid response.

I don’t really understand what you mean by : the header is visible through the overlay…what I see is the same as in total, but the X moved to the corner.. I see a mobile menu icon in both, then you click the icon, and an white or black overlay shows the menu… Don`t see the difference :S

Don´t worry, I dont know javascript..

I found and easy solution, I set the header to full width, now the hamburguer menu and de X are in the same place.. I did not want the header to full width but is the best solution for me. Although people does not open menu to close it….I think that looks much more cleaner the X in the same place. And also the X is a bit big compared with the menu icon… Little details make the diference. ;)

Also it would be good to make something similar to the other site I told you. It looks very good that mobile menu, where you can also see your logo.. maybe for future updates..

Thank you for your time, hope you take some notes from my thoughts.

Have a nice weekend

I have a side menu on my inner pages – for example http://galmedpharma.com/non-clinical/ When I flip my mini ipad and ipad – the side menu which appears on landscape version only on these devices just goes all weird and appears as one long vertical line. additionally, I set the footer to appear centered on the landscape version as well as on the portrait -but on the ipad it goes back to the desktop type version. On the samsung tab 3 – the footer for some reason does not center but appears on the left – although it does center properly on all other android devices that I tested. Please advise. thanks a lot!!

Hi,

To be honest I’m not sure what you want to do regarding “how I can set the following items to be in responsive mode up to 1024px: top menu, sidebar – so that it does not display”.

If you want the mobile menu shown at 1024 you just have to change your menu breakpoint – https://wpexplorer-themes.com/total/docs/alter-mobile-menu-breakpoint/

If you want the sidebar to go full-screen at 1024 then you will need a little CSS via a media query to set the content and sidebar areas to 100%.

Is that it?

- AJ

ps: I don’t know what plugin you are using for the sticky sidebar and I mentioned this previously but it’s infinitely running on mobile which could cause issues on small devices – https://cl.ly/qx3e – this is probably a quick fix on the plugin’s end and maybe something you would want to let them know about.

ok – thanks for that – I set the sticky sidebar not to be active on the page if it is under 959px and cleared the cache which I think helped. I updated the css for the mobile menu. Now the only outstanding item is the side bar – where can I set the css to only activate the sitebar after 1024 ? is it in wpex-responsive.css thanks

Hi,

You want to hide the sidebar and make the page full-width until 1024 at which time you want to display the sidebar?

If so the custom code would look like this:

@media only screen and (min-width: 1024px) {
  body.has-sidebar .content-area {
    width: 100% !important;
    max-width: none !important;
  }
  #sidebar {
    display: none;
  }
}

Of course this will target ALL pages if you want to target only this specific page then you will want to adjust the CSS accordingly to include the unique body classname for the current page.

After latest updates, woocommerce header searchform seems to be broken. (Header Aside Search) Do you confirm? Wordpress: 4.9.4 Total Theme: 4.6.1 Woocommerce: 3.3.4

It works correctly but doesn’t display placeholder and a few more glitches.

Sorry for late reply, I didn’t get any notification of your reply to this question.

I can’t share the link as I was making tests before upgrading on my staging environment. As I’ve seen some glitches, I haven’t updated my live site still. I will inevitably update in the near future, so I will let you know if issue still exists.

Thanks for your reply though.

Hello A.J. I have made the updates and Search issue persists. Can you please check on our website: www.someka.net You can see it on the top right section. Even though I have selected the Woocommerce search, it doesnt display “Search Products” as a placeholder. Besides that weird “Search” text has come below the button.

And I can’t hide that “Search” text with CSS either as it doesn’t have any id or class..

Hello AJ – I have one of my sites live: http://glowconsulting.com – thanks so much for Total, it helped this come together so quickly.

There’s one thing I can’t fix – on the above page I’m using the testimonial slider and if you look at slide 10 (penultimate spot) you’ll see to the right of the quote there’s a small bit of text showing, a little black mark – it’s the tail of an ‘f’ from the next slide.

I tried changing padding/margin in CSS but that hasn’t done it – any ideas?

Thanks Pete

Thanks very much AJ – and congratulations to your grandmother!

I still have the problem with the tail of the ‘f’ showing on the right of the penultimate testimonial, and I hadn’t noticed before but it then also cuts off on left of the last slide.

It is an italicised font with a long tail but is there something I can do with padding or similar to resolve it?

Thanks Pete

Hi Pete,

I honestly think the “f” issue is a problem with the font itself. The tail of the F is added in a negative fashion to the left as opposed to inline on the sentence so it’s overflowing. If you look here – https://cl.ly/qoHv – you can see the tail is missing because of how the font is coded it’s applied far out to the left, where normally the tail should start inline with the text above.

If you apply an overflow to the inner content via CSS it at least hides it so you can’t see it on the previous slide…

.vcex-testimonials-fullslider-inner { overflow:hidden; }

...but it will still be missing on the current slide. So you could instead add a padding to offset the tail on the f:

.vcex-testimonials-fullslider-inner { padding-left: 5px; }

- AJ

Thanks very much AJ – I’ve tried both of these and opted for hiding the overflow so it’s always hidden on the right and only shows a small error when an ‘f’ falls at the beginning of a line and gets cut off on the left. The padding caused a couple of other bits of untidiness!

Thanks again Pete

one more question haha, how can I hide or edit the call-to-action button on the footer that appears on almost every page with this “I am the footer call-to-action block, here you can add some relevant/important information about your company or product. I can be disabled in the theme options. “

You edit this in the Customizer under Customize > Callout. More info here: https://wpexplorer-themes.com/total/docs/footer-callout/

Now if you disabled it under Theme Panel > Customizer Manager, this does NOT disable the section it just hides the settings in the Customizer. The purpose of this panel is if you disable features in the theme you can then use these settings to hide them from the customizer so next time you open the customizer it can load quicker ;)

Or you can use it to disable anything you won’t be editing each time you open the customizer to make it faster. for example if you are going to edit the callout you can first go to Theme Panel > Customizer Manager and uncheck everything except the Callout so when you open the customizer it’s slimmer and faster because there are less settings shown.

- AJ

Hi! Why is the search-bar below the content of the page? Is it a bug in version 4.6.1?

Hi,

I tweaked some CSS to add better prefixes for the overlay search, if you are seeing it at the bottom of the page it’s because you are loading old CSS files. Make sure to clear all site/browser cache.

This is common if you’ve removed version numbers at the end of your scripts so the browser is loading the old CSS and not the updated theme CSS.

Hi AJ, I just installed the charlotte demo theme onto my website and am trying to make look the way I want. I would like to get rid of the slider on the homepage. Is there an easy way to do this?

www.itsabeautifulglass.com

Thanks Alia

Hi Alia,

Yes, removing the slider is very easy! (although I see you customized it and it looks really nice (better than my demo – ha!).

This is how you would remove it: https://cl.ly/qTBi

Hello, first I would like you to thank you for your continuous support. I have got here few questions: 1. I’m currently working using my subdomain until the website is ready then I will move it to the main domain, my question is; do I need to purchase another license even if I’m not gonna use that subdomain anymore? I would appreciate instructions on how to do that.

2. I have in my contact forms some labels that I didn’t need to add the HTML tag<label> as per instruction but then I don’t know how to change its font weight or style in general; here is an example

Ex1: with the label <label> Date of Birth (required) [date* dateofbirth]

Ex2: without the label Do you have a Bachelor’s degree? [radio radio-571 label_first default:1 “Yes” “No” “Graduating Soon”]

3. I have added the option in my contact form or Application for in my case to upload one file, but I don’t know what to do to be able to receive the files, I have googled it and some sites say I should create a folder for all uploads but it seems way harder than I thought.

oh one more question, I want to update my theme and Wordpress but I don’t know how to back up my website in case of losing any files

Hi there,

1. No you do not have to purchase another license. If you activated your theme on the subdomain you can just click the deactivate button under Theme Panel > Theme License and then enter the same code on the live site.

You can also keep 2 live sites if you have a development site and save the license as development like this – https://cl.ly/qTfO

Of course if you want to buy more licenses you can, I won’t stop you ;)

2. You can customize your site forms via Customize > General Theme Settings > Forms. More info here: https://wpexplorer-themes.com/total/docs/styling-forms/

For any extra tweaks you can always use CSS which I can help with if needed.

3. What contact form plugin are you using? Most WordPress contact form plugins automatically attach and send you the uploaded files without you having to do anything.

4. I always recommend VaultPress for site backups, but it is a premium feature. There are some backup plugins out there you can use for free but the best thing would be to ask your webhost. Some backup plugins aren’t allowed on certain WordPress hosting sites and also most good hosting sites have daily/weekly backups already setup for you so you can ask if this is something your host does.

- AJ

Thank you for your prompt reply. I am actually gonna purchase another license for a completely different website, I just love how Total handles everything in a smooth and professional way.

Answering your 3rd question, I use Contact Form 7, it doesn’t, unfortunately, upload it automatically, I think I need to add a line of code in the message section but I don’t know what exactly, I have tried and failed lol

I would also love if you can help find a way to style the message I receive.

I have got new issues here and I’m hoping to be able to fix everything before this Tuesday coz there is a deadline to launch the final website.

1. I would like to style both the contact form that shows on the website and the one I receive in my email. Your instructions worked like charm for the ones have <label> tags but not for the other ones and when I add <label> tag for all the others, it gives me an error so I am super confused and honestly I don’t wanna play with the CSS file coz I am afraid I will mess it up and it gets worse.

2. I will have two forms, one is an application form and another contact form in separate pages; however, I would like to have the contact form shows in a lightbox as an easy way. Is that possible? I tried adding a lightbox but couldn’t add a contact form to it instead of images and videos. I would appreciate it so much if you could record a video of your screen doing it. Thanks a lot

3. Most of my sections are on the page so no need to go another page, so I just needed local IDs and you showed how to do that last time and it worked perfectly, but now I have an issue which is when you are on another page and you want to get to one of these local IDs on another page, it doesn’t go coz it requires a link, do you know the right way to do that?

4. Few issues with Media I guess, or perhaps an update. on the mobile version, I see pictures are a little bit squeezed but can’t show you an example now but will attach the link later when I fix the previous issues first.

5. This question regards the new licsence I wanna buy, I have got a project to design a website for Chinese company and they want to host on Aliyun which is also Chinese and you know some websites don’t load in China. So, I would like to know if Total uses any Plugins or anything with Google because Google is completely blocked there.

Hello. I have read on this forum about how to add mail chimp pop up forms. Should I understand that the code mail chimp suggests can not be used on the theme as it is and it has to be rewritten ? Thank you

Hi,

Unfortunately the issue isn’t with the theme but with Mailchimp and how they write their code, it actually breaks a lot of sites. Otherwise I would apply a fix in the theme. But it’s very easy to still use their forms by simply rewriting their code so that it’s correct like such – https://gist.github.com/wpexplorer/c0d725c219e1163214d20dbca75e8b55 – so this is the code you would paste into your site header (can be added under Theme Panel > Custom Actions > wp_head) and just change the uuid and lid to match that from the code provided by Mailchimp.

- AJ

Hi, I am using your theme for a woocommerce site and need to enable searching products by SKU on frontend. I checked 2 plugins and 2 scripst and none of these work. Are you using custom solution for search? How could I enable searching by SKU?

Hi,

Total doesn’t use any custom search functions so any properly coded plugin should work.

I downloaded and tried this one – https://wordpress.org/plugins/woo-search-by-product-sku/ – and it works for me, I also inspected the code and it’s done the right way.

- AJ

For me it does not, but I am using a shortcode to have search form in the top bars (https://wpexplorer-themes.com/total/docs/topbar-searchform/) may this be a reason?

Oh..Yes, that would cause an issue because this form doesn’t just search products which is needed. The shortcode simply calls “get_search_form” but WooCommerce search requires a custom hidden parameter to add ?post_type=products to the search url.

If you add the following to your child theme’s functions.php file it should instead grab the woocommerce search:

add_shortcode( 'searchform', function() {
    ob_start();
    if ( function_exists( 'get_product_search_form' ) ) {
        get_product_search_form();
    }
    return ob_get_clean();
}, 999 );

So you are replacing the default shortcode with your own output.

- AJ

Hi AJ,

I’m thinking that the Total Search Bar module in Visual Composer needs a little tweak.

As it is, everything is able to be customized, even down to the translucency, with one exception – the ‘Submit’ button – which has options for colour and transparency, but no option for swapping out ‘submit’ with an image.

Should there not be a ‘design’ option within this module that lets you substitute an image into the ‘submit’ buttons place, just as there is a ‘design’ option to change the background of the search box itself?

Or even a place to upload an image into the search bar would do.

Hi,

The issue is that it’s not semantically correct or possible to add images inside HTML buttons. The only true way to use an image for a button is via advanced CSS knowing the dimensions of the image making it too complex for an inline module setting.

That said…you generally don’t need images for anything these days with CSS3 you can customize any button to look how you want it to, no need for a background image. I previously gave you some code for this in your last reply, but to be honest you can achieve a very similar pink button affect without an image and just using CSS ;)

- AJ

Instagram widget stopped working. “Instagram has returned invalid data.”

Hi,

This was a known issue from a recent Instagram update. Make sure to update your theme to the latest version so you have the fix:
