Please make sure you are uploading theme zip instead of the full package. The main package contains Theme files and Theme zip along with documentation, sample contents XML file, child theme and its zip file and PSD files.
If that is the case then please unzip the main package and retrieve the theme zip file to upload.

Can the search use Google Custom search? We have a separate forum and wiki and want all the content to show up in the search.

This theme doesn’t have the option of google custom search for now. But you can add that in a sidebar widget with some easy steps. I just found this video for you if you are interested in doing that yourself.

If you are looking into increasing the number of posts available in theme options then you have to make changes in the array of numbers visible in the following screenshot.
http://jmp.sh/QFMtUDYOr you can put a number on the place of variable ”$number_of_articles” to increase the post count.
I recommend making changes using the child theme. The theme options change will not be easy to achieve from child theme but you can make the second change easily.

You need to update the custom-editor-style.css to be able to use https where applicable as WP 4.8 introduces warnings when css files are not loaded correctly. your theme triggers this warning
