It is an old article and it refers to an even older version of the theme. There is no concern if you have at least newspaper 8 installed. If you have a version under newspaper 8, there could be trouble as those versions are over 2 years old now. You should not keep old versions of any software around. Keep your theme and plugins up to date.

Thank you for your suggestion but unfortunately making such a change cannot happen on short notice. It has to be passed on to the theme development team. A theme change does not happen on short notice. We cannot make a change in our theme based on a single request. We have lots of users and lots of requests and have to prioritize requests based on popularity.
