I suggest you consider to choose SEA or ART, they are newer than Air. They are both the same frameworks. The difference between the 2 themes is demo mainly.

There is no membership function in our themes(most of WP theme do not support), but it is possible by 3rd plugin like https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-members/

There is not the back button in the pre-made template. But most of the single portfolio posts are built by the builder. It is easy to create a button, it is more flexible(position, style, link) than the template. I created a button on this demo.

type A (demo): Text Position(above the image): Left/Center/Right/Bottom Left/Bottom Center/Bottom Right You could define the Title and Caption text style independent

type B (demo): Text Position(above the image): Left/Center/Right/Bottom Left/Bottom Right It supports extra inline effect (demo)

type C (demo): It doesn’t support the text for type C.

I´ll keep SEA on my short list definitely! – I think for such a visual / portfolio oriented theme it would make sense to have image/photo captions for the more gallery oriented views. but what I see on the portfolio(-slider) pages looks great! (– as does the menu!)

In many themes do you have the problem that “next project” or “previous project” is more related to the creation date of a project instead of the category. For example when a user is looking at a photography project and the user clicks on “next project”, he will see a project from graphic design instead of photography, because I created a graphic design project after a photography project. But I want that those buttons are category based/related and not based on the creation date of a project. I hope you understand what I mean.
