There has been a critical error on this website. Hi, after updating to the very latest Zeen update, I have no access to my website and no access to backend either. I received access in recovery mode, and this is the messages I am getting:
One or more themes failed to load properly. You can find more details and make changes on the Themes screen.Go to the Themes screen
Broken Themes The following themes are installed but incomplete.
Name Description Zeen This theme failed to load properly and was paused within the admin backend.
I cannot open a support ticket as my support has expired. I do not know what is causing this but it is definitely a Theme problem. I have tried twice to overwrite the theme files, but to no avail. I have deactivated all plugins and did the normal thing to see if that is the problem. Can you PLEASE urgently assist?
Hi there,
V4.0.2 patches this all up. The issue was due to code being used that is not compatible with old PHP versions.
The theme is compatible with all the latest PHP versions, including PHP 8. It’s really recommended to use a modern PHP (at least 7.3), as you’ll get a good performance boost overall.
V4.0.2 will be out in a few hours and has fallback code so it works on older PHP versions too, but I’d really recommend looking at upgrading your PHP version.
Hope this info is useful.
Chris
Heads up: Zeen 4.0.1, with Performance > Lazy Load Embedded Iframes + Videos turn on, was causing YouTube embeds to not show up on regular post types. The video-wrap div class was present, as was the iframe in the page source, but not video on the front end. Videos are working again with the Lazy Load setting turned off. (Extra info: Tested with PHP 7.4, Lightspeed Cache, cache cleared, plugins deactivated).
Hey Codings,
Can you share an exact url where this is happening to check it out? And can you confirm if you might have another lazyload plugin anywhere, such as Lightspeed cache settings? Because embedded YouTube videos work well on the local Zeen dev, so I wonder if it’s 2 separate lazyloads running on the same video and causing the issue.

Hi there – on the Zeen menu dropdown choices there seems to be one missing and two identical options? Didn’t there used to be one which displayed the subcategories to the left and latest posts to the right (or did I dream that?) There are also two identical options – at least I think they’re identical – the post with featured image options – thanks
Hey Wakelover,
When you add a submenu item to the parent item, the options will automagically change. They are two that are identical when there are no submenu items set
Codetipi
Great thank you
You’re welcome
For me, even after 4.0.1 update individual font-size for different devices (desktop/tablet/mobile) keep reverting to default values after a while…
Hey Mrmad,
Please try refreshing your site and browser cache, as the JavaScript file that changed is likely being cached. If still nothing, please open a ticket at explain the exact steps to recreate the issue so the support team can investigate – and if it proves to be an actual theme issue, it will be escalated and patched up in v4.0.2.
Hope this info helps.
Codetipi
I will, thank you!
The problem is persistent even with all other plugins disabled but the ones needed by the theme. I change the page width, save changes, exit the customizer. Next time I open customizer I get a wordpress error message telling me that something went wrong. Opening the customizer now will show me the old values. I don’t have that problem with other themes, and there is no need to refresh browser cache or anything – that is not really the point of having a customizer if you need to make a small change?
It is your browser cache causing the issue. Your browser has cached the v4.0.0 javascript file. After you installed v4.0.1, your browser is still loading the cached file. In v4.0.2 extra code has been added to force browsers to re-cache it again, but refreshing your browser cache will fix it right now.
Is there a location that lists all the changes with Zeen V4 and V 4.01 over the V3 version of Zeen? Not so much the changelog list, but more so an actual list with examples etc.
Even the docs page doesn’t point out the new in V4 items (unless I missed that) I know you have the demo but the demo looks the same to me from previous version, and I’d like to know what new tricks/tools have been added that i did not have before. I right away checked for a youtube video but I know, that takes time etc. =)
I appreciate you are busy and life of a coder is often a to do list a mile long, stacked on top of other lists.. ha. Just thought I’d check.. and yes, I am a verified buyer with support. Cheers.
Hey Jdot1,
Totally agree with you! And the goal was to release v4 so you guys wouldn’t need to wait much longer, but a video showing some of the many new v4 features is being made and new graphics showing it will also be added to the page here on Themeforest.
Suffice to say though, there are LOADS of really, really cool new goodies you can play with now. Stay tuned!
Chris
The latest update also caused a fatal error for my site too. I’ve had to try and revert back to a previous backup.
Be very careful when upgrading. Even rolling back to a previous version of the theme hasn’t fixed it.
Hey Sp0rk,
Please try with v4.0.1, there was a bit of code that only works on new PHP versions, and that was the cause. V4.0.1 patched it to make it work on all PHP versions compatible with WordPress.
If still nothing, please open a ticket at http://codetipi.ticksy.com and share all the relevant info (error contents, when/where you got the error, site url, etc) and someone from support can investigate it deeper for you.
As a side note – everyone should really be on PHP7.4 or newer to be honest, so if you can upgrade, definitely do it. You’ll get better performance overall.
Codetipi
Hey Codetipi! The v4 update is incredible, while we were really hoping for more post design functionality (hero choices specifically, as I remember you mentioned here in the comments that some were planned for v4), the additional WooCommerce support was a phenomenal upgrade. However, we aren’t currently using Tipi Builder on our shop homepage, and v4 has broken a handful of our Gutenberg blocks. We no longer have support, so we aren’t asking for any, but figured we would mention that it isn’t playing nice with a handful of other plugins anymore. Once again, phenomenal work, and we hope to see some additional design specific options in the future. Cheers!
Due to all the breaking, we were forced to rapidly re-design with Tipi Builder and I am frustrated with its inability to replicate the design and functionality we had achieved with Gutenberg. Self-hosted (WordPress), nor .mp4s hosted on Archive.org function as video backgrounds, and I see no way to add buttons, images, or call to actions over video backgrounds. This is a huge inconvenience and we’ll be having to revert to a broken homepage design while wait for potential bug fixes.
Full screen/background video players also downscale in all Chromium browsers (Chrome, Brave, Edge, etc.) and turn into regular video players.
Hey Andrew,
Happy to hear you like the new features
Nothing really changed to break any Gutenberg blocks though. The v4 demos all use Gutenberg blocks without issues too. If you refreshed your caches, disabling all plugins to test if one of them was the real cause, you will indeed need to open a ticket and share all the relevant info (what block you are having trouble with, the url showing it, etc) and the support team can 100% help you figure it all out.
You definitely shouldn’t need to re-design anything either, there are a handful of breaking changes in v4 that are explained in the documentation – check it out and see if any apply so you understand what is going on and how to fix it. If still nothing, please mention this in the ticket too.
Hope this info helps.
Chris
Thanks! Not looking for a solution on the developer end, since I am a decent dev myself and we have a team of developers at the magazine (it’s just a pain to troubleshoot and fix issues when we have an absurd amount of projects occurring), but figured I would just point out that they are in fact theme-related issues, not cache ones, so they could be fixed in the future for other people who may be running into the same or similar issues. I reverted the theme to the previous version and none of the issues are present, but both v4.0.0/ v4.0.1 make “Product Blocks for WooCommerce” by BowTied and “Woolook” by Sabri Taieb relatively (or completely) unusable.
Also, video, in general, is still an issue and has been crossed checked from multiple devices. Background and full-screen videos are still an issue and they seem to only place nice with Vimeo Pro .mp4s, but not any other service tested including Google Cloud, AWS, Digital Ocean Spaces, or Archive.
Besides looking stunning, I have yet to find the features in Tipi to replicate what we created with Gutenberg. And being that our development team has some other focuses currently, the design should be easy enough to replicate by a decent frontend designer, but no luck yet. Things as simple as creating a container with two columns of equal dimension using two different Tipi blocks (which don’t have the same sizing features) has been nearly impossible, and we can’t recreate our video headers due to the broken/underdeveloped video functionality, and standard blocks such as “icons”. A simple work-around could be achieved with the image block, granted videos functioned as intended.
Hopefully, these things will be addressed for everyone using the theme moving forward. Zeen is an overall incredible theme, and we’ll make it work on our end regardless, but think that there are some things that could use some work.
By no means am I saying that either of these plugins is beautifully designed, if anything, Woolook was a good enough solution (parts of the code are poorly executed) while I wrapped up finishing something more stable, but the reality is that both worked with Zeen prior the update, so there is some new code that isn’t compatible. Once again, thank you and the team for all of the hard work, Chris! You’ve created an incredible theme, and certainly one of the better pre-developed thematic systems on the market, and I hope that it only gets better. I apologize for the frustration: it’s an absurdly high-traffic, high-sales time for us, and for the website to fail on us at that moment isn’t what we were hoping for with this update. Cheers!
Hey Andrew,
No need to apologize, Zeen’s countless updates have all been driven mostly by user suggestions and all confirmed bug reports have always been fixed (100/100 times too). That’s why I mentioned if you open a ticket and list out everything you think is an issue – the support team can investigate and then either provide a fix/guidance or escalate so that it’s fixed/improved in the next update.
If you’re able to share urls showing what you mean by video issue – because I’ve seen users use really obscure/niche video services without any issues. If you report the exact issue, I’m sure it would be quickly sorted.
Same with the Tipi Builder, please share exact suggestions and they will be looked at and possibly implemented. For instance, can you share an example of what two blocks you put in columns and how you want them to appear? I imagine you want a grid block or similar to stretch full height?
Chris
two things on v4
1. can show me an example of multiple gallery blocks for v4
2. there used to be an full features example menu page can you provide a v4 link for us
Hey Leemarr,
1- What gallery blocks are you referring to exactly? If it’s the Gutenberg gallery block, you can definitely add multiple. Same with Tipi Builder gallery block
2- Do you mean the Features menu item from this demo: https://demos.codetipi.com/zeen ?
Hope this helps.
Codetipi
i haven’t fooled with my zeen for awhile except for keeping up with updates …. i’m still running with the classic editor … but i’ve asked for some gallery improvements many times … the undo website gallery features is what i was hoping to find ... is v4 it … is undo using the tipi gallery block … what’s the difference between the gutenberg gallery block and the tipi gallery block … BTW i couldn’t find the answer in the help documents and the zeen demo does not either …
Yeah, Undo and all its new features were indeed added in v4
Can you please remind me what gallery improvements you were requested again? I can look into the status of that request.
Codetipi
i wanted a slide counter and i wanted another gallery view other than the horizontal one … both are there now … btw i closed the classic editor and things are clearer to me … but i’m still not certain whether i’m using the gutenberg gallery or the tipi gallery can you steer me on this …
Ah okay so there is a new gallery design on the to-do list that will be done at some point 100%. In Zeen v4 there is a new lightbox included which is the first step of the new gallery design. It will be like the ones you’d see on theguardian or vogue – where you see a counter of images that when clicked open all the gallery images in a nice lightbox.
Re gutenberg vs Tipi Builder. If you are editing posts in Gutenberg, then it’s a Gutenberg block (Such as a gallery one). If you’re editing a page/category/tag/etc with the Tipi Builder and add a gallery block in there, that’s the Tipi Builder block.
Hope this helps.
by Tipi page you mean page …
by Tipi page you do NOT mean page and/or post
is this correct
By Tipi Builder page, I mean a page where you have activated the Tipi Builder by clicking the “Edit with Tipi Builder” button and added blocks via there. And correct, Tipi Builder is only for pages/category/tags/etc, not posts. In Zeen to be super clean, future-proof and compatible with WordPress, the theme embraces Gutenberg fully for posts
so if i wanted to change a post hero height it would only be by customizing …
in this case there are only limited options available …
what if an option fails (100% to 50%) is that a bug …
Hey Leemarr,
The theme comes with the most used height options (50%/66%/100%/uncropped), what size do you want?
Codetipi
don’t know really know what size … just like to be free to vary the size beyond this limit as in tipi
Sounds like uncropped is the option you’re after, it means the image will be whatever the native height of the image is.
how about adding a 33% height option
If you don’t plan on using any of the other settings, you could add css to change the 50% option for example to be 33%. If you’d like that, open a ticket for support and mention this is what you want and they’ll write a CSS snippet for you
my support is gone so how can this happen
You need to extend it if it’s expired
Support can help you with this one though 100%.
I tried updating my Zeen theme to the latest update, but I’m not able to complete the update as I’m getting error: Theme could not be resumed because it triggered a fatal error.
Did anyone else get the error while updating the theme and knows how to solve this.
Hey Akshay,
I’m afraid that isn’t enough information to know what is going on, but try updating to v4.0.1 which should go live any minute now. If the problem persists, please open a ticket at https://codetipi.ticksy.com and someone from support can help investigate. Just ensure to include the site url that is showing the problem.
Codetipi
Since 4.0.0, it seems WooCommerce product pages content width is set to 100%. Is this intended? The product pages no longer apply Zeen’s max site width and forces to be 100% within product pages? It means the sites background isn’t shown on Product Pages – it’s fine on pages/posts/woocommerce archive pages where I have max site width 1230px with a site background).
Also, the minus in the quantity field doesn’t show for me on my install (tipi-i-minus) – odd, not sure if local issue as it seems fine in Demo.
Appreciate I need to buy support again so not expecting any (I have a handful of licences, tend to pick them up adhock as a tip when I only have 1 install)
Thanks again for the great work.
Thanks
Hey again,
I believe the width was changed to be able to allow for the new Zeen v4 WooCommerce product designs and layouts, as some are full-screen width. However, any non full-screen ones should show the background (I think). If you open a ticket and share the exact url then it can be investigated properly. Same for the minus, very odd you can’t see it – can you see the minus on the demo sites (they are running v4).
Hope this info helps!
Codetipi
Thanks.
I’ve found only the ‘Default Product Hero Area’ selection that allows the background is the one with the sidebar.
When selecting this though, the only sidebar that shows is the default sidebar. It doesn’t seem to allow me to display any other – I’ve tried a few/deleted cache etc. I change “Product Pages Sidebar” to different sidebars but for the life of me, I cant work out why it only shows the default sidebar no matter what sidebar I select.
I resolved the minus issue, I had some additional css for a woocommerce addon ‘name your price’ that didn’t play nice. I just removed the below.
/* cart display fix */ .single-product .summary .cart{ display:block; }
Thanks
Hey again,
You’re welcome, happy the minus is all good.
Re: Sidebar, are you saying you select another sidebar to use on a product page, but the sidebar loading on the frontend of that product continues to be the default one? I just tested this locally and it worked fine for me – selecting another sidebar to use loaded that one on the product page.
Do the sidebars you’re selecting definitely have widgets set? If the sidebar area has no widgets it could be reverting to the default one.
Codetipi
Cheers. I’ll renew support and log a ticket with video. Thanks
That’d be super helpful – v4.0.2 will go live later today, so if it is a theme issue, it might be possible to include a patch in that update. Thanks.
Thanks. Submitted
Thanks again for your helpful video + report, all patched up in v4.0.2 which is now live
Love the new update! Fabulous job.
Quick question — I’ve attempted adding my Goodreads account to the other social icons I have in my header. It’s been mostly successful… except that the icon itself is invisible! When you hover over, the notation appears in black (as I’ve set for the others) and the link works. Just an invisible icon… while the other social icons appear as per usual.
Any ideas?
Hey Tillyma,
Love that you love the update
Oh interesting, could you please share the site url to see what is going on? Did you try refreshing your cache? Because I tested it locally and the GoodReads logo appears fine for me.
Codetipi
Yes, you’re right. Clearing cache worked! Thanks for the tip
Fantastic news, happy it’s all good
Error Details
An error of type E_PARSE was caused in line 824 of the file /**/wp-content/themes/zeen/inc/core/woocommerce.php. Error message: syntax error, unexpected ‘)’
Hey Alex,
That was fixed in v4.0.1 which has been submitted already. Should go live very soon
Codetipi
Thanks, but I keep getting an error and it makes my site inaccessible.
An error of type E_PARSE was caused in line 905 of the file /home/**/wp-content/themes/zeen/inc/core/woocommerce.php. Error message: syntax error, unexpected ‘)’
Are you certain you are on 4.0.1? Because that was 100% fixed. If you still see it in 4.0.1, please open a ticket at http://codetipi.ticksy.com and include your site url and any other relevant info so it can be investigated.
Yes, version 4.0.1 :/ The error is a new line : 905 (the previous error was on line 824).
Hi Alex,
V4.0.2 patches this all up.

Hello,
Thank you very much for the update. Now everything is working fine and fast
Excellent news, you’re welcome
The update made a change to my website header. I don’t know how to fix it. https://ibb.co/TwQ52pN
I solved it by changing the Ajax settings in WooCommerce.
Excellent update, thanks
Hey Alex,
Really glad to hear you like the update and that you got it sorted
Codetipi
Thanks
You’re welcome
spectacular update thanks, one thing, can you add the ability to make the 2 buttons transparent in the phone menu? and also the ability to add 2 different colors (blur). While the search option works well if not for 2 issues, the first is that it is without the space between the edges and that makes it unpleasant, besides that, it is bad not to be able to adjust the height. The second feature that is perhaps wanted is that once I use the search form on the phone, the text still written in the form remains, if a user wants to do more searches he will have to delete each time. Hope it gets fixed soon, thanks guys thanks!
Hey David,
Really happy you like it
1- Both mobile menu buttons have an outline option to be transparent. A gradient option might be added in an upcoming update for this.
2- I’m not sure what you mean by no space – on the demos there is a space. Can you open a ticket and share your url so the support team can take a look at your site’s setup and html to figure it out?
3- Agreed – the search box should be blank after a page reload. Will be like this for v4.0.2 or v4.1 (whichever comes first)
Hope this helps.
Codetipi
The update looks incredible, thanks very much for all your hard work.
The WooCommerce improvements are brilliant.
Hey there,
It’s no problem, really happy you like it
Codetipi
@wakelover – don’t know if you will see this, but the post progress bar color is determined by the main accent color found in Customize > Global Options (last one in the first section) > General Colors > Base Accent Color. If you want to change it to a different color from the Base Accent Color, use the following CSS in your child theme style.css or paste it in Customize > Customizations > Additional CSS…
#progress {

Thanks Codings, you’re a legend
You are one of the few theme authors here that realizes giving support in the comments is good for theme sales. It keeps engagement high on your Theme Forest page and shows potential buyers that you are actively maintaining the theme. But it’s probably not easy. There are enough of us who are serious about using and tweaking your themes, that maybe it would be a great idea for you to start a support forum on codetipi.com. Then users can help each other too (like above). This would be a lot better than running the comments here/Facebook Group (not everyone is on FB)/and ticket system by yourself. Less time answering questions means more time for dev work. For example, sometimes I know the answer to a support question here, but can’t reply directly to other comments. Also, the search feature in a forum would be helpful. Another suggestion: don’t make it a closed forum. Allow it to be open for anyone to read and comment, maybe you can show if the user is a confirmed purchaser of the theme, but leaving it open will attract non-Zeen users too, because there will be useful information for WP/WC in general. Then on each page you can display banner ads for non-logged in users that links to the Zeen product page here where they can buy it. Doing this could be a game changer for Codetipi. You have enough users across your themes that the forum would grow itself well.
Thanks very much for the kind words and suggestions. Codetipi used to have a support system forum years ago, but it caused a lot of unexpected issues, which is why it was moved to Ticksy. In the support system there you can reply to others though and search through tickets, so it’s essentially that though. Ticksy also integrates Envato’s API, which means they work seamlessly together (in theory).
It is something that I’ll keep in mind though! Thanks again.
Chris
Hi there – I promise I’ve searched and searched but can’t find the answer – and I’ve done this before so don’t know why I can’t find the setting – but where do I change the colour of the progress bar please?
Thank you
Hey Wakelover,
In case you haven’t seen Codings helpful response to you, I’ll copy/paste it here:

Thank you for your help! Much appreciated….
Thanks @codings – I didn’t get a notification of your response but wanted to say thanks for your help
You’re welcome
With wordpress/woocomerce’s nonsensical and overly controlling use of thumbnails and destruction of image display, sometimes I am ready to pack everything and move over to Shopify.
Recently set up a new page to display products, using “Grid C” block. This is supposed to display all of the products in 3 columns across the page, edge to edge.
Original images are over 2000px. On a 3840×2160 screen, the images are clear on the front end. On a 1920×1080 they are blurry and this is why:
<a href="site/product/" class="mask-img"><img src="site/uploads/image-370x247.jpg" class="attachment-zeen-370-247 size-zeen-370-247 wp-post-image" srcset="site/image-370x247.jpg 370w, site/image-770x513.jpg 770w, site/image-1536x1024.jpg 1536w, site/image-2048x1366.jpg 2048w, site/image-1155x770.jpg 1155w, site/image-500x333.jpg 500w" sizes="(max-width: 370px) 100vw, 370px" width="370" height="247" /></a>
In Customize, those sizes are unchecked. Why would that block pull such small images even when it’s being told that there are only 3 columns and it should fill the entire screen? How to prevent this? Putting a lot of effort/money into good photography is useless if the site engine/theme doesn’t display the images to their fullest potential. Cache was clear, tested on other machine. Frustrating
(Even just dragging the browser window from one screen to another shows the images going from clear to blurry. Also strange, using the same Grid C block on a different page with the same category, same images, etc. This isn’t happening)
Update: Deleted the block and added a new one. Now the images are clear and being displayed correctly.
Seems to be a one time occurrence and probably WP Rocket caching issue. Doesn’t change that WP and WC thumbnail/image system is really bad
Hey Codings,
Happy to hear it’s all good
And I agree about the thumbnail system. It’s been a big pain for WordPress developers for a long time.
Codetipi
I am on the verge of getting rid of WC and moving to Shopify because of how images are being handled. WP and WC stop messing with my images!
-Using the vertical scrolling gallery. CSS modifications have been added to make that column even wider for larger pictures.
-The original image sizes are up to 2500px.
-All gallery images are being resized with “-770×513.jpg” on the end.
-Unchecked all thumbnail sizes in Zeen but WC is still creating AND USING unwanted sizes. According to the regeneration plugin these are being generated:- woocommerce_thumbnail 390×312
- woocommerce_single 770×513
- woocommerce_gallery_thumbnail 200×200
- shop_catalog 390×312
- shop_single 770×513
- shop_thumbnail 200×200
-I have tried every function I could find, even a plugin (Disable Responsive Images Complete). Regenerated all thumbnails, etc… WC still insists on resizing images and creating a blurry front end gallery.
-Even when I finally get it to use the correct image, the code being generated is the following (width=”770px” is what is messing everything up):<img src="imageurl-770x513.jpg" class="" data-src="imageurl.jpg" data-large_image="imageurl.jpg" data-large_image_width="2200" data-large_image_height="1467" width="770" height="513" />
Is it Woocommerce or Zeen causing the height/width attributes? Do you know how to make it stop?
Hey Codings,
Yeah I totally get your frustration! I don’t think you can disable/stop WooCommerce from creating thumbnails.
However, if they’re blurry, that is something that can be fixed. By default WordPress creates thumbnails at like 80% quality to optimize for file size. If you’re more interested in quality, you can tweak that value with a plugin like this: https://wordpress.org/plugins/image-quality/
There are also different image engines that have different quality results. Ask your hosting if they use Imagick (better than GD engine): https://support.pagely.com/hc/en-us/articles/115000052451-Imagick-vs-GD-in-WordPress
Hope this helps.
Codetipi
Thanks for the reply. It has nothing to do with anything on the server or image engine, it’s also not about image quality or compression, all of the images are already optimized, huge, and clear… What is causing is it the width height attributes being added to the img src code. If Zeen adding that anywhere? There is usually a place to set the WC image sizes, but sometimes when a them includes WC customization stuff in the theme customizer, it’s gone. I think it is either WC causing those attributes stock or Zeen is doing is somewhere… because other WC sites don’t have it and your shop demo also has those attributes in the img code.
Sorry typing too fast, lots of typos and too late to edit
It’s okay
Re the width/height. The theme uses WordPress core functions to output all images, which is the correct way of doing it. As this allows plugins to intercept/change/etc everything. WordPress core by default outputs all the relevant and valid attributes, including height and width. The values themselves are simply the sizes of the actual image, so whatever is appearing there is the real value. The reason you need those attributes is because without them it affects Core Web Vitals (and HTML image best practise). So unless you use a plugin to filter and remove them, it isn’t really possible to do that.
If you see other sites without them, it means they’re manually hard coding the images out – which is VERY bad (and outdated) practise as other plugins can filter them, etc.
Thank you for the insight. But the forced 770px width (defined as image name “shop_single”) is not simply the sizes of the actual image. The image is 2200px, but WooCommerce is forcing it to be 770px, and the width of the gallery is set to 65% (wider than Zeen’s stock width: 58.33333333333333%;). This is making images blurry when wanting to display larger images in the vertical scrolling WooCommerce gallery. it’s 2021, there is no way WC can tell sites they can only use a 770px width in product galleries, but how to change the default values to something less blurry (such as 900px) when the theme does have the stock WooCommerce customize settings available?
Ah yeah shop_single thumbnail is a WooCommerce one. But unless the space where the image appears is 2200px, there is no point in loading that size there. Share the url of the product you’re talking about to understand the situation a bit better.
Can you please let me know where the Zeen thumbnail sizes are defined/controlled? I am so frustrated with how this theme is handling the display of thumbs – specifically with WooCommerce.
I have turned all Zeen Thumbnails off, regenerated thumbs with Real Thumbnail Generator, then turned each thumbnail on one by one to see how they interact with the settings I am using in the theme.
For example, Classic Blocks with 4 columns… Starting with 2500px wide landscape images, setting image shape to square in the block settings, the theme shows blurry “293×293px” images. Turn off “293×293px” in Customizer and regenerate thumbs… one would think the theme would show the next largest square size (390×390px, 585×585px, 900×900px) but it doesn’t! If 293×293px is turned off, it just shows the full size landscape image, so square is off.
So then I give up on trying to turn landscape images into square via the block settings, instead try to set all image shapes to landscape. But I have some square images at 2500×2500px, and then the theme wants to turn those into blurry thumbs using “zeen-370-247” landscape pics.
So what I think I need to do is find where you have all of the Zeen thumbs defined and change 293×293px size to generate a thumb at 600×600px or something larger. inc\core\thumbnails.php is no help. Where else can I make these changes?
Yeah I totally get your frustration! I don’t think you can disable/stop WooCommerce from creating thumbnails. The WC single gallery thumbs issue from above has been solved. There are functions that can be used to prevent WC thumbnails from being generated, but this plugin Disable Generate Thumbnails works flawlessly for seeing all thumbs being created and the ability to turn them off. Now it’s just Zeen thumbnails messing the archives pages up
If you disable all Zeen’s thumbnails, then your images will always be messed up as you will be outputting the original image file. So if you upload squares, rectangles or tall images, they will output exactly like that. On normal blocks this means they will be random heights and push content up or down.
This is one reason for thumbnails. On top of that, you’ll be loading the original image everywhere, even in tiny thumbnail spaces, which is very bad for performance, this is the main reason various thumbnail sizes are great – the smallest possible size is loaded in the relevant place.
I understand thumbnails, how they work and the purpose of why WP generates so many (although debatable as to the necessity with modern internet connections and hosting plans). I disabled all Zeen’s thumbnails only to turn them all on one by one to test how and where they are working. But the issue here is that the theme is generating images that are too small for where they are being used (full width Classic blocks with 3 or 4 columns for example).
The test disable all thumbnails was also to see if the theme would pick up the next largest relevant shape when a smaller size was disabled. So, using squares with 293×293px should mean it will pull from the next enabled size up 390×390px, but it’s not working that way.
Which file are these thumbnail sizes defined in for things like Classic Blocks? Can’t have blurry images after putting so much into beautiful photography
Ah I see, but the theme isn’t the one that decides what thumbnail to use, that’s a combination of WordPress core and the browser. The theme simply says “I need this image size” and WordPress then goes to find the closest/best images to use.
When you ask for a 293×293 image, WordPress automatically passes all the related (smaller and bigger) sizes, such as 390×390 into an HTML attribute called srcset. This attribute is then used by browsers to determine which image to load. The browser uses the screen type (retina vs non retina), the screen sizes (mobile/desktop/etc) and then loads the image it believes is best. The theme has very little say apart from the initial “I want this image” and the declaration to create the relevant thumbnail sizes. You can install plugins to create new sizes or disable existing ones.
Hope this helps.

True that WP is overly controlling with image/thumb management and srcset, but the point of a theme is to be able to get around those controls and create the look that you want. Where are the sizes defined in Classic Blocks code so I can make adjustments?
I’m afraid I can’t keep replying here, for any other theme support please open a ticket at http://codetipi.ticksy.com
I have purchased all of your themes in the past, and after all the times I have paid for support and the many contributions I have made in this comments section over the years to help make this theme better… and now you can’t tell me where to change the sizes of images in the code for Classic Blocks in order to make the site display images correctly?
I appreciate your support, but this needs to be investigated through the proper support channel. Doing it here is really inefficient and the rest of the support team don’t have access. I’ve done my best to help already here, but it’s unfair on other customers with valid support if I spend my time helping here for customers without valid support.
Inefficient is generating so many thumbnails then showing blurry images on the front end because it’s confused about which ones to use. Not trying to get free support. I probably paid for this support more times than most other users on here. I just want to know where something is defined in the code that you wrote so I can fix it. A theme author should get paid for ongoing support, but a theme author should also care about making the product better before talking about valid support. Before you say nobody else has the issue, most wouldn’t know unless they use large hi-res images and test on multiple screens. I’ve commented before that this theme produces too many thumbnails without a clear guide to which ones are used by various elements of theme. There are places where you could have used CSS to crop images instead of thumbnails. We have faster internet and more bandwidth nowadays. Here’s an idea: instead of forcing sites to generate thousands of useless thumbnails on the server, just include an image optimizer plugin instead. 4,500+ sales is busy, which is why I have tried to contribute in the past. To pay for support yet again, I need to be using this theme, but to continue using this theme, I need to solve this problem. I would have happily paid again.
I have purchased Zeen theme less than one year ago and so far experienced only small issues which I managed to fix through the help of your support team. Now suddenly my website shows a huge gap at the bottom of the page and this without any additional plugin being installed, without any change in the configuration or any action on my side to cause this unwished effect which seems to be related to either one of Wordpress or one of Zeen latest updates. Now if I wish to solve the problem I only have one way: to renew support paying almost as much as when I originally bought the licence and I frankly don’t think this is completely fair.
Hey Oltretutto,
This is correct, you need valid support to get support from the Codetipi support team. This applies to all Themeforest themes and to be honest, all themes everywhere in the world. Unless it’s a free theme that provides free support, but those themes will never make your site look/feel/be premium, and free theme support will never be good/quick either.
As you have experienced already though, when you have needed help, the Codetipi support team has helped you fix it all

Hi, I see your page https://demos.codetipi.com/zeen/?dark=1. You haven’t H2 for the title. I have the same problem on my home page. How can I change all article title in H2 ? Thank you
Hey Zast,
I’m not 100% sure what you mean by that. Are you saying you want to change all article titles to H2? If so, there is a section in the documentation which explains how to change them to any HTML tag you want (H2, H3, DIV, SPAN, etc).
Hope this helps.
