1. Yes you can edit all the contents with elementor FREE only.
2. It’s very easy to change the icons, All you need to do is just paste the desired class name of the icon you want from https://icons8.com/line-awesome

Now here are my queries: 1. How to remove “Gear icon” top left corner above the side panel.(I don’t want it to be shown to public user) 2. How can I remove a section? I don’t want “Contact” “Testimonials” “Pricing”. Maybe in future I requre but for now I want to hide those sections for public user. 3. Can I add more than 5 projects ? (e.g. 50+)
I’m using Elemntor and I don’t have knowledge of development that much but I’m good with Google. Please help.

What you say about custom css ? You do not put that option ? 
First, you need to head over to the Appearance » Customize page from your WordPress dashboard
