You shouldn’t have any issues with Lobo and PHP version 8.3. In this regard, I’d like to remind you that in version Lobo 2.7.5 we included an update for the shortcodes plugin.

This theme update includes an update for the Lobo Shortcodes plugin – you may want to update your plugin located in includes/plugins/lobo-shortcodes.zip. You just need to unzip this file via FTP on your server and replace your old folder in wp-content/plugins.

As always when updating your site, we strongly recommend keeping a full website backup.

Please give this a try, ideally on a staging installation, and let me know if this resolves the issue you’re experiencing on your particular case.

The main drawbacks, limited design flexibility, complex maintenance due to duplicated content, and heavy reliance on Google infrastructure, often outweigh its potential benefits.

Yes, AMP can still offer fast loading speeds and streamlined mobile experiences, especially for low-resource teams or in regions with slow internet connections. However, these advantages can now be achieved just as effectively, if not more so, through modern web performance best practices like Core Web Vitals optimization, optimized responsive design, and lightweight processes.

In short, unless there’s a very specific reason to use AMP, investing in a well-optimized, standards-based site is a more flexible and future-proof solution.

In fact, we have a new theme update planned for the next coming week to improve support for the latest WooCommerce version.

I’ve got back to my website since along ago and I just want to make a question. When I choose a video module and upload a self-hosted video with the size you recommend based in the modular structure (1920×960), the final result isn’t the expected. It deslocates the video downwoards than show a black bar on top. I’ve than tried the standard 1920×1080 and the black bar disappears but it displace the video downwords anyway.

Hello Van, Thank you for your kindness. Probably i haven’t explain it well.

Your tutorials talk about 480×480 grid base to achieve the perfect ratio. This being said I’ve done a first test with a 1920×960px (your tutorial rule). This one showed the black bars.

Than I’ve tried the 1920×1080px, the video got cropped and the black bars disappeared. But… (and this is the problem) When I click play the video is pushed down and is off-center in height. The top margin shows larger than the bottom one.

Maybe the automatic crop is aligned to the top of the video and not to the middle.

Since your site was pretty outdated it, the first step when updating would require a complete site backup, including the database for you to make sure that no data is lost during the process.

Updating a WordPress site is a pretty straightforward process, but if your site has not been maintained for a while, this process can turn different. For this, after the complete backup, I would encourage you to update your plugins first, one by one to the latest available versions. When you will have your plugins ready and confirm that no errors are happening on your website, you should update the theme and, in last term, you would be updating WordPress to the latest version available, which is WordPress 6.3.1. Notice that the theme should work just fine with this last version, since we have tested it within our latest update cycle.

Basically, the update process order would look like this: Plugins > Theme > WordPress.

In this way, you should not have any problem updating your website, since all the third party involved would properly updated and ready for the latest WordPress version before you update it.

In case that you import the XML again, you will have duplicated pages but your current pages won’t be modified. I would not recommend you to do this because you will have a lot of unnecessary contents on your site to erase after the import.

In case that you would like to customize these elements, you will need to make this using custom CSS via Appearance > Customize > Additional CSS or your child theme.

For you to handle the titile, you can write a CSS rule like this:

.item-hover .item-title {
   font-size: clamp(16px, 2vw, 24px);
   color: #fff;
}
.item-hover .hvr-subtitle { font-size: clamp(12px, 1.5vw, 18px); }

Also, you can change the hover overlay opacity and color with this other custom CSS rule:

.no-touch .item-hover:hover { background: rgba(255,255,255, 0.75); }

You just need to adjust the different values in order to better fit your needs.

I’m not sure which slider you are referring to, but videos cannot be added as part of the hero slider nor content sliders, since the theme does not provide support this kind of contents within elements.

Hello and greetings. Can you advise me how to change the hover colour when we hover over the portfolio featured image on the portfolio home page? I thought of changing the hover colour to black and the text to white. Currently the hover colour is being set as white.

In case that you would like to change this element, you just need to add this custom CSS rule to your custom styles via Appearance > Customize > Additional CSS or your child theme styles:

.no-touch .item-hover:hover { background: rgba(255,255,255, 0.75); }

As you can see, you just need to add the RGB value as part of the tree first values and the fourth value represents the opacity in a value between 0 and 1. So you just need to play with this property and values in order to achieve the results you are looking for.

I tried your previous suggestion about emptying caches across the board and nothing changed. After doing some further digging, it appears the issue is when using the image module and setting the height to “auto”. When the height is set to “auto” the rendered image/modules become 0px in height in php 8.1. The “auto” height property for image modules is working properly in php 7.4.

I loaded the latest lobo theme from zero through the local app and tested locally on my machine and the same thing is happening. I loaded the xml dummy content and played with a test portfolio page and changed an image from height “100%” to height “auto” and the image disappeared in php 8.1. Even when I change the php to 7.4 locally and do the same test it is working properly for 7.4.

When inspecting the code in dev tools on chrome, the image modules are still on the page, but the height is defaulting to “0” so they become “invisible”. There seems to be something off here with the image module height “auto” attribute in the theme in particular to 8.0 and above.

Please advise, help would be greatly appreciated and if there will be an update we can expect. (sorry posted from another account – follow up from user rtinsley1 below)

I know I’m past my support date, but I just updated to the latest Lobo package and updated from from PHP 7.4 to 8.1. The site loads fine (using a child theme), but all of the image modules are missing across portfolio pages while using php 8.1 for me. When I move hosting back to php 7.4, all of the images are showing properly. I tried a previous comment’s suggestion regarding emptying page and browser caching, but there was no change after doing so. Anyone else experiencing this?

First of all, I’m sorry to hear that you are experiencing any kind of issue with your website. So please, do allow me to try to help with it.

As you are pointing to in your message, when some users have updated the theme after skipping many versions from older versions before updating to the latest one available, cache issues use to appear. Sometimes, it is not easy at all to deal with these issues, so I really encourage you to double check that you are properly clearing the different involved caches:

  • Server cache. This one is configured to a server level, like Varnish. This is the first one you should make sure that is properly flush.
  • Page cache. Normally, this is configured via plugins like W3TotalCache. For this, you should open the plugin’s options and make sure that you are properly clearing your page cache from there.
  • Browser’s cache. This cache remains on the browser’s configuration. Always you update your site you should clear your browser cache in order to ensure that you are seeing the latest code version.

With this in mind, I really encourage you to test your site with in incognito mode or even try with a different browser.

After reviewing this and if you still are experiencing related issues, you should review into different areas, for example, reviewing your installed plugins.

Notice that Lobo is PHP 8.1 ready, because of this, you should not have any problem working with your site. In order to confirm this, you just need to install this app locally on your computer and make a quick/clean/fresh new installation where you will install the theme from zero. In this way, you can confirm that the theme works just fine with latest WordPress versions and PHP 8+.

Hello. I need to add some additional fields and options to my Lobo site’s store. After reviewing various WooCommerce-compatible options, I purchased a plugin called “Advanced Product Fields for WooCommerce” by Wombat (StudioWombat.com), as it is the only plugin of its kind to have the specific features that I need. However, Lobo and said plugin are experiencing some technical difficulties. Upon their review of said difficulties, the people at Wombat tell me that Lobo’s unique store layout is not WooCommerce standard and therefore causing the issues I’m experiencing. Is this something with which you can help me? If so, I will renew my Lobo’s VanKarWai support forthwith so that we can get to work. Please advise. Thank you.

No theme in the market can guarantee 100% compatibility with all the plugins available, this is near to impossible, more when a theme provides a unique experience as Lobo proposed when released. Because of this, if Lobo would provide a standard WooCommerce grid and layout, Lobo would be another standard WooCommerce theme.

In this sense, unfortunately, we cannot provide custom work for you to integrate your needs with the theme, since this would require custom work and development in order to implement these particular needs from you.

If this is a very important project for you and you would need any further assistance customizing your website, maybe it would be worth trying some platform like Codeable or similar.

Hello. Recently I updated WP per my site and now none of the image modules display their images, even after I re-upload them via the Media area and/or my computer. Please advise. Thank you kindly.

I solved the problem. [Using the excellent All-In-One Migration WP plugin, I 1. backed-up my site, 2. deleted it and the underlying WP install, 3. reinstalled WP, 4. reinstalled my site from said backup via said plugin, and now the image modules display properly once again.] Onward! :-)

If you update the theme from an old version or you have missed some last update, once you will install the latest theme version, you should make sure that you clear your page cache (via plugin) and your browser cache. In this way, you will make sure that your site is rendering the latest code and you will avoid this kind of issue. Clearing caches is very important every time you update your site.

Portfolio section is not working with PHP 8.0

Hi Van, I´m still a big fan of the LOBO theme, but after I updated to version 2.8 and WP to 6.0.2 the portfolio sections are not displayed anymore, if set to PHP8.

If I reset to PHP 7.6 it works. But thsi PHP version expires soon. What can I do?

Lobo is fully functional with PHP 8.0 and you should not have any problem running your website with this server configuration.

Something different is that you were not properly updating Lobo during the time and, alongo other plugins maintenance details, you could generate some kind of broken functionality or piece of code breaking the site when running PHP 8.0. This could happen and this would require a close troubleshooting in order to understand why you are having these results.

With this in mind, you must know that WordPress itself is not 100% supporting PHP8 and PHP 7.x support is not being removed in mid-term, so you should not have any concern about using these versions in case that you cannot properly debug your site in higher versions.

If you have updated your site from a very old version, you will need to make sure that you have properly cleared your browser and page cache in order to avoid mixed results. In the same way, you should make sure that all the update processes with plugins and the theme was correct.

Hi Van, thanks for your replay. 1- I tried to do what you have suggested about the cache but the shortcodes doesen’t works. Do a new and clean installations keep to much time. I found in the thema manual the “Shortcodes by hand”, I’ll follow that solution! 2- I re-created e new page with Tempalte ” ... Module” and I found the solution with the block “last projects” or similar. Thanks.

Loading Problems with FireFox browser

Recently, the main page of www.schnittfilm.de is loading in Firefox, but the movies you can click on from the main page load forever without success. This is not happening in Chrome. Just Firefox.

Does anyone has an idea why?

After checking your site in the last Firefox version in macOS, we have not found any problem with your site.

In this sense, I would encourage you to check if some of your installed browser extensions could break somehow this functionality. In the same way, I would recommend you to try your site in incognito mode.

Also, it could happen in a very isolated way. Maybe it would be worth trying a different computer/setup in order to ensure that nonthird parties could be involved.

Hey Van, thanks for the heads up. But did you try to open any movie on the side? It still doesn´t work with Firefox but with chrome and Safari etc. This problem apperas on many different computers of freinds/clients etc.

That´s the strange thing. And I found no explanation what to do.

And it definitly worked a couple of months ago perfectly!

I must say I dont use the latest Lobo version because I don´t exactly know how to update and I am afraid, the whole side won´t be able to be reconstrucetd by me easily afterwards … I´m using version 2.6.4

In case you are experiencing some kind of issue with the content builder, double-check your third-party plugins list. If you have any other builder installed, this could generate issues and break the module’s builder.

Also, do make sure that you are running the latest theme version in order to ensure that everything works smoothly with the latest WordPress versions.

Other than that, there is not exist any reason why your website does not render the builder properly or any related issue we are aware of.
