Hello Cuong Tran,
We hope you are well. Thank you for all the updates you are making to the theme.
We’re writing to share a technical observation noticed while using the Gutenberg editor: Custom font styles appear to be inserted before the <!DOCTYPE> declaration, which could cause the browser to enter “Quirks mode.” After reviewing the code, this may be related to the plugin that manages custom fonts, they have an update that corrects the order of the styles.
Sharing this with you in case it’s helpful for a future update.
There is also another question regarding the homepage layout that supports Rich Thumbnails. When selecting the option to place the text above the thumbnail, clicking on it always redirects to the article rather than triggering the video play button (likely due to the overlay). Are we possibly missing a setting or using it incorrectly? We’re using VideoPress.
Thanks for your work on this theme. Let us know if you need more details.
Best regards,
Marina

Hi Marina,
Thank you for your feedback. Could you please help me with more detail about the information?
1/ The URL and “Custom font styles”. Where do “Custom font styles” come from? Gutenberg font style or any plugin font style?
2/ “Homepage layout that supports Rich Thumbnails”: Do you have any concrete URL so I’ll help you to check it.
Thank you very much
~ Mike
Hello Mike,
Thanks for your quick reply.
1/
This is the warning that appears in the Gutenberg editor console:
Your browser is using Quirks Mode. This can cause rendering issues such as blocks overlaying meta boxes in the editor. Quirks Mode can be triggered by PHP errors or HTML code appearing before the opening <!DOCTYPE html>. Try checking the raw page source or your site’s PHP error log and resolving errors there, removing any HTML before the doctype, or disabling plugins.
And in the editor, these lines appear before doctype (with fonts configured in Appearance -> Custom Fonts, we don’t have the Custom Fonts plugin installed separately, it seems to be bundled with Fox theme):
<style type="text/css" id="cst_font_data">
@font-face {
font-family: "Alegreya SC";
font-display: swap;
font-fallback: serif;
font-weight: 400;
src: url([...ourwebsiteurl...]/fonts/AlegreyaSC-Regular.woff) format('woff');
}
[...more fonts...]
</style>
<!DOCTYPE html>
In the Custom Fonts support forum (link to one comment where reported it: https://wordpress.org/support/topic/error-message-class-bsf-custom-fonts-render-php/#post-17321655), it is marked as resolved with an update.
As a test, I manually replaced the Custom Fonts module inside the Fox theme (fox -> modules and fox -> inc) with version 2.1.17, and the warning disappeared, and no fonts were displayed before doctype. This suggests the issue may be related to the version of plugin. I haven’t tested it thoroughly, nor do I know if this version affects other things.

As for the design of the homepage, I can’t provide a URL because it’s currently closed to the public, sorry. I’ll try to explain:
In the PAGE BUILDER, we have several sections. In one of them, we’re using Post Group.
In the Big Column option, we have Grid set up with Post Thumbnail, Fancy Category, and Post Title. And we’ve checked Big Column Rich Thumbnail and Plays Video Instead of Link to Post. Also, Video Play Trigger: On Click.
In the Post Style option:
- If we choose Normal (text below the image), everything works correctly: the video plays on click without redirecting to the article.
- However, we would like to use the Ontop option (text over the image) to create a more compact layout with the text above the video.
With the “Ontop” design, an overlay layer is added (to display the text over the image, which makes sense). This makes the entire block clickable, so any click redirects to the article, even when the “Play the video instead of linking to the post” option is enabled.
I’m not sure if you have a demo using this “Ontop” layout with video, it would be helpful to compare the expected behavior.
3/
I also want to mention a minor issue that doesn’t affect functionality: we’re using the latest version of Fox (7.0.2), but some PNG images return a 404 error in the Gutenberg editor: metro.png, slider.png, carousel.png, grid.png… corresponding to Format options -> Post Format -> Gallery
[Error] Failed to load resource: the server responded with a status of 404 (/fox/v55/customizer/assets/img/metro.png)
Sorry for the long explanation, I hope I made myself clear.
Best regards,
Marina

Hi, im interested in purchasing this template, can u let me know if its supporting RTL ? Thanks!
Hi digitalgls7,
Apologize for the late reply. I missed this comment notification.
Thank you for your interest.
The theme doesn’t support RLT officially but I saw few real websites using Fox theme in RLT structure.

Hello… i’m using the Fox Magazine theme and I want to display autoplay videos (YouTube/Vimeo/MP4) on the homepage, in place of featured images. The videos work perfectly fine inside the single post, but they do not appear on the homepage or any archive pages. Is there any help that you may provide to me?
Hi JAYDI70,
We have 2 options:
1/ Video play on click/hover, like this: https://fox.withemes.com/washington/
When edit your post grid, open “Thumbnail” tab, then check the box: https://prnt.sc/GaSdllPLTAd92/ If you check “Rich thumbnail if possible?”, it’ll embed YouTube in place of the thumbnail.
Hope this helps,
~ Mike
Hello! I am currently using the FOX mAGAZINE theme on my website right now. Is it possible to switch ir the COMMENTARY theme? how to do that? thank you
Hi kallyman,
Yes, It’s possible.
1/ go to Dashboard > Fox Magazine > Install plugins to install One click import demo plugin first. If you have that plugin installed, skip this step.
2/ Go to Dashboard > Fox Magazine > Import demo data then click to install COMMENTARY demo. If you don’t see “Import” button on that demo, you will need to uninstall current demo first.
Hope this helps,
~ Mike
Thanks you for your help! I
Hi again
After i installed the the demo I came across of just 2 things. Some code on the top of the nav bar https://www.awesomescreenshot.com/image/59268603?key=228d16771d391708f3abaced0f2c82c8 and the Topic section https://www.awesomescreenshot.com/image/59268616?key=6597fe538e666d3ca7688234cbace8b6
Hi kallyman,
Apologize for the delay on this reponse. I missed this comment somehow.
1/ You can check few places:
a/ Dashboard > Appearance > Widgets to see if you have any widgets in “Before header” sidebar.
b/ Customize > Header > HTML, to see if you have any HTML code
c/ any plugin that adds share code
2/ What’s wrong with the Topic section? If you want to edit/remove it, go to Customze > Page Builder.

p/s: Thank you very much for supporting us for years
I open a ticket 1 day ago, still no answer!!!!
Hi LucaLettieri,
Sorry for the delay. Your ticket has been openned 11h ago and It’s about performance, one of the most generic problem of entire wordpress site (hosting, content, plugins, dns..), not just a theme alone so It’lll take a while for us to analyze.
Please bear with us. We don’t answer like “please wait”, we only answer straight to the problem when we have the answer.
Kind regards,

Hello,
Since the last theme update, I have this displayed at the bottom left of my website’s home page. How can I remove it? See image.
https://prnt.sc/lEQciL7rtsXq

Hi dan002,
That’s because now It allows to add page builder on homepage and on some pages. So we design a button to introduce that feature. It shows up for admins only, visitors won’t see it for sure.
However in next update we’ll try to design a better button so It doesn’t look “lame” for admins.
Meanwhile, you can add following code into Customize > additional css:
.edit_with_fox_page_builder{display:none;}
~ Mike
Hello,
Thank you very much. I don’t feel the need to use this button as an administrator. But it’s a good idea for the administrators who requested it.

dan002

Sorted. It’s about theme version outdated (v5.x while the current one is v7.x)
The February 1, 2026, update to the Fox theme does not work. Attempting to report this.
Hi Drammattex
Could you please tell me which version did you try? We have just updated to v7.0.1.1 few minutes ago to fix typo error in child theme including.
If you still have problem with the update, please let me me know the details.
~ Mike
Hi Mike, I received an automated message from Wordpress at 9:38 p.m. on February 1 telling me:
“These themes are now up to date: - Fox (from version 7.0.0.3 to 7.0.1.1)”
At 11:03, I received another message from Wordpress that begins: “WordPress has a built-in feature that detects when a plugin or theme causes a fatal error on your site, and notifies you with this automated email.
In this case, WordPress caught an error with your theme, Fox.”
Attempting to log in to or visit my site now yields:
“There has been a critical error on this website.”
Wordpress additionally sent a link to recover mode. In that mode, I now see at the top of my screen:
“You are in recovery mode. This means there may be an error with a theme or plugin. To exit recovery mode, log out or use the Exit button.” “Error: This theme failed to load properly and was paused within the admin backend.”
Hi Drammattex,
Could you please send me hosting login info via my profile contact form, I’ll help you to check it.
~ Mike

I didn’t see license links for icon sets, from where did you took that icons displayed in your site.
Hi rajproexpert,
We made a custom set of icons ourselves can called Fox icons. It’s not any known iconset.

Hello how can we change color in post group columns? I for example i want one of the three columns of my post group to have color… How can i do that?
Hi JAYDI70,
Unfortunately we don’t have such an option. We have few typo settings for each column but not color.
Kind regards,
~ Mike
I have a few questions before making the purchase. Could you provide an email address?
Hello,
I have been using the theme without any issue. Today I found out that I cannot change anything via customiser which gave me a fatal error. I have been using engine 5 instead of 6. I would like to resolve the customiser error. Please let me know how I can troubleshoot this problem.
thanks a lot!
Best,
Edwin
Hi Edwin,
Apologize for the delay in your response. Please open a private ticket here with your login info or send it to me via my profile contact form. If you are currently using a child theme, I might need your hosting provider login info to see child theme code.

Hello, I am about to update the php to the newest version to 8.5 will the site work? does the theme support it?
Hi CreativeGnora,
I haven’t tested with PHP 8.5 yet and in fact, my server is not yet ready for PHP 8.5, ie. there’s no PHP 8.5 option. This version is released last month. From my dev pov, there’s no rush to upgrade to PHP 8.5 unless you have a very very specific reason to do so. From layers PHP -> WordPress -> Themes, you won’t see much effects from upgrading PHP. If you’re currently using PHP 8.1-8.4.., it’s totally fine until next year.
Kind regards, ~ Mike
Hello, I’m not able to upgrade my theme Fox to engine 6. Theme is upgrading (as in the Manual) but then it reverts to its previous state. I don’t know if this is also why my home page is broken. Now, when I try to customize the page, it throws me a Critical Error. Thank you, Joanna
Hi Joanna,
Could you please drop me a message via my profile contact form with your site URL + login info, I’ll help you to check

I see nothing more: https://imgur.com/a/dGReeE7
We’re unable now to create review section or assign a different sidebar. Can you help us?
HI LucaLettieri,
Could you please open PRIVATE ticket with your login info, I’ll help you to check the issue. Please use the account you have used to purchase the theme. Hello,
I’m using the Fox Theme. Since the update, some functions are missing from Single Post. Where did the HTML function go? This update removed all my HTML in Single Post. See the image showing the missing function by clicking on the link.

Hi dan002,
For few reasons we remove HTML elements from single post options. Here’s some alternative options:
1. You can go to Single > Advertisement and enter ad code. Basically it’s same as HTML code.
2. You can add HTML widget to sidebar “After single post content” in Dashboard > Appearance > Widgets
Kind regards,

Hello, Thank you for your reply and “explanations”.
You’re welcome. Let me know if you need anything else ^^
I am trying to import a demo using the main import and here is the error I get:
Import Failed Whoops, there was a problem importing your content.
Import Failed Error: error (0)
Hi bsandman77,
Apologize for this inconvenience. May I know which Fox theme version are you using and what demo were you trying to import?
Here’s some suggestions:
1. Import demo manually – quick fix for this problem and get things done.
2. open a PRIVATE support ticket with your site login info + demo name you want to import, we’ll assist.
Kind regards,
~ Mike
The WordPress Customizer is broken/failing to load on my site and constantly reloads. The browser console shows a critical Content Security Policy (CSP) error:
“Content Security Policy of your site blocks the use of ‘eval’ in JavaScript.”
This violation is caused by insecure JavaScript evaluation (eval(), new Function(), etc.) in the theme code. I have localized the use of the insecure new Function() constructor in the following file: fox/inc/customize/assets/js/select2.js. Given the general nature of the CSP error, other files may also be affected. Any clue on how to solve this?
Hi yurivisser,
Apologize for the delay. We’re on vacation and will be back this weekend. I think I can’t resolve this until we’re back and have laptop. Meanwhile could you please provide me with more info?
1/ What’s been changed? Why this happens suddenly while It was working well before?
2/ Please provide me with login info via my profile contact form in case I may need to see the backend.
Kind regards,
Mike Tran
Hi Mike,
We were able to bypass the notification via Cloudflare settings. So it’s not urgent, enjoy your holiday. The error will remain visible, though. See, for example, in Chrome when you open the Stockholm demo. The console shows: ‘Content Security Policy of your site blocks the use of ‘eval” in JavaScript’.
Could you please check with incognito browser?
Thank you for looking at it. The notification appears for me – even in incognito mode and in demo versions – under “issues”. https://prnt.sc/CJ_FuPaQNQOg
Hi yurivisser,
Could you please try to deactivate your Chrome Extensions and try again?
Hello. Thanks for the update. We plan to use the theme again. Only if it meets our requirements:
_Is it possible to apply dutone filter to featured images (ideally based on custo post type) so we won’t need to edit them before uploading one by oone (and for the older posts)?
_The Gutenberg editor still not ideal, not like wysiwyg (uploaded fonts not appear etc) – any plan to improve that?
Thanks in advance.
Hi Littbarski,
1/ Unfortunately we don’t have duotone filter for featured images.
2/ Yes, we’ll keep improving Gutenberg in the upcoming updates. Especially to make frontend and backend fonts to match.
Kind regards,
Mike Tran
