Hello! Just so that I understand it correctly. From now on, if I buy the theme it renews yearly. But what happens if a client I build a website for doesn’t renew their licence the next year? They just lose access to pre-made websites, updates & support? Does the theme get any other security updates after that or not until the client pays for another year? Does the website stop working or it continues to work just fine?

Hello,

Firstly and most importantly, all sites will continue to work and remain fully editable.

Secondly, if you decide to stay on v14, it will continue receiving security and essential maintenance updates.

Thirdly, The7 15 works as a regular subscription, but with one important caveat: we are planning to release security updates even if the license has expired.

As for the library, yes, access is available for one year or for as long as the subscription remains active.

How I update theme from wordpress admin page? Now it give message that “payment required” for update? my theme version is 14.2.1.1

Hello,
You are seeing this error because you are trying to update from an older version of the theme to the new generation, The7 15. That is why the server returns a 402 error without displaying a proper error message.

You can learn more about the v15 upgrade here: https://the7.io/update-policy/

Hope this helps.

but how I update v14 versions? There is security updates like 14.4.3. and I can not update from wordpress admin version 14.2.1.1 to 14.4.3. ?! I have try to use envato market plugin also, and same thing… how I can update 14 versions?

If you are using The7 automatic updates, you will receive v.14.4.4 in few hours.

If you are using Envato plugin, this will take much longer because they are very slow to review/accept theme updates nowadays.

Warning for potential buyers and existing license holders: access to the pre-made websites library is being disabled on licenses older than 12 months. In WP admin you get a notice that your license “no longer includes access to the pre-made websites library” and links to buy a new The7 Build ($39) or Unlimited ($199) plan through Freemius, outside of Envato entirely.

Two things make this worse. First, this 12-month limit is not mentioned anywhere on this item page, which still advertises 75+ pre-made websites as part of the purchase. Second, the page was recently edited: it used to say this was a one-time purchase with lifetime updates included, and that wording has now been silently swapped for “1 year of updates”, while past buyers who purchased under the old terms are the ones losing access.

If you are buying this theme mainly for the demo library, be aware it can be switched off remotely after a year. If this has already happened to you, consider reporting the item description to the Envato Help Team. Advertised features should not be retroactively removed and resold as a subscription.

Hello,

Firstly, we have never advertised “lifetime pre-made websites library access.” We advertised “lifetime updates and support,” and we intend to keep that promise.

Secondly, since July 1, 2026, Envato has moved all authors to the non-exclusive “50% minus $12” model. So we are well within our rights to sell the theme directly (with a 33% discount, by the way).

Thirdly, as of July 1, 2026, for the reasons mentioned above, we treat all new ThemeForest purchases as the first year of a subscription. The theme description was updated to reflect that change.

5parky Purchased

Your three points confirm the complaint rather than answer it.

1. Nobody claimed you advertised “lifetime library access” in those words. What the listing did say, until recently, was “No recurring membership or other hidden fees!” while presenting the pre-made websites library as an included feature with no expiry disclosed anywhere. A 12-month cutoff added after the sale, unlocked only by buying a new plan through your checkout, is a recurring fee that was hidden.

2. You state the subscription treatment applies to “all new ThemeForest purchases” as of July 1, 2026. Yet the notice in our dashboards disables the library on licenses “purchased more than 12 months ago”, which by definition are not new purchases and were bought before this policy existed, under a description that promised no recurring fees. Your own statement and your own enforcement contradict each other. Either the policy applies to new purchases only, in which case restore library access on all pre-July 2026 licenses, or you are applying 2026 terms retroactively to earlier sales, which is precisely what I am here objecting to. Archived versions of this listing on the Wayback Machine clearly document how the theme was sold at the time of purchase.

3. Your revenue split with Envato is a matter between you and Envato. It does not create a right to remove functionality from licenses customers already paid for in full. Buyers are not a party to that.

I have 15 licenses for this theme and now i read that i don´t have the ability to change the theme anymore?

When we bought the licenses i bet i have not read the policy that you have the decision to change this.

Hello,
This is NOT an accurate read.

All current The7 websites remain fully functional and editable.

Only access to the pre-made websites library has changed.

Moreover, the current The7 v14 will receive security and maintenance updates.

There are individuals speculating and trying to blow the situation out of proportion in comments and reviews. But this is something to be expected.

The current version of the theme is v.14.4.3.

Envato is very slow at approving updates nowadays and only approved this version yesterday.

I logged into one of my sites and saw this.

This license was purchased more than 12 months ago and no longer includes access to the pre-made websites library.

To import new pre-made websites, choose a The7 plan:

After reading other comments regarding the new updates and licensing I think I would rather use Antigravity 1 month subscription to build static site than subscribe to this.

We strongly believe that, in 2026, a full WordPress instance is not required to build a simple static site. WordPress should be used when a WordPress site and its ecosystem are specifically required.

However, if the expectation is that a single The7 license should provide indefinite access to the library for building an unlimited number of sites, that would violate both the Envato license terms and our copyright.

Hello,

I am writing regarding the recent licensing and update policy changes for The7.

Although this ThemeForest account shows only three The7 licenses, I have recommended The7 to many clients over the years. As a result, dozens of my clients purchased individual licenses through their own ThemeForest accounts, based directly on my recommendation and on the trust I placed in your product.

I have built and maintained many client websites using The7, so these changes affect far more installations than the three licenses visible on this account.

My first concern is the long-term maintenance of existing websites. Many of these websites depend not only on the main theme, but also on The7 components, WPBakery modules and bundled premium plugins distributed as part of the package.

It is therefore important to understand whether the commitment to provide “security and essential maintenance” applies to the complete The7 package required to keep an existing website operational, or only to the core theme files.

My second concern is the new subscription model. From what I can see, most competing themes on ThemeForest have not introduced the same type of mandatory annual subscription for continued access to major updates and online features.

The7 was previously sold for approximately $39, while many competing themes were priced at around $59–$69. At the time, the lower price made The7 especially attractive and helped it gain a large customer base. Because of this history, the new policy may create the impression that the lower initial price was used to attract a large number of customers, who are now being moved toward a recurring subscription in order to continue receiving important updates and features.

I understand that Envato’s commission changes may have had a serious impact on your business. However, existing customers purchased the theme under the conditions displayed on ThemeForest at the time, including the promise of future updates.

Other established multipurpose themes also provide very large libraries containing hundreds of demos, while continuing to offer updates under their original ThemeForest licensing model. Therefore, limiting The7’s pre-made website library after 12 months and requiring another payment for future major versions is difficult to understand from the customer’s perspective.

Please provide a clear answer regarding the following:

1. For how long will The7 14 continue to receive security and essential maintenance updates?

2. Will these updates also cover the The7 components, modules and bundled functionality required by existing websites?

3. Will compatibility updates continue for future versions of WordPress, WooCommerce, Elementor, WPBakery and PHP?

4. Will bundled premium plugins continue to receive compatible updates through The7?

5. What exactly will happen to ThemeForest licenses older than 12 months when The7 15 is released?

6. Will existing customers be required to purchase an annual subscription simply to keep their current websites secure and compatible?

I would appreciate specific answers rather than general references to “essential maintenance,” because I need to advise many clients about the future of their websites and determine whether it is still responsible for me to recommend and use The7 on future projects.

Thank you.

To summarize:

1. We have never advertised “lifetime pre-made websites library access.” We advertised “lifetime updates and support,” and we intend to keep that promise.

2. We believe that 12 months of pre-made websites library access is enough to build a website. It’s important to note that, according to Envato licenses, reusing the same licenses to build new websites is not permitted.

3. The7 v14 will continue receiving security and essential maintenance updates.

4. The upcoming The7 v15 features a new modular, FSE-first architecture and full compatibility with existing v14 websites. It creates a better platform for future FSE and Elementor v4 development. But in modern market terms, The7 v15 is essentially a new product.

Hope this helps.

Although I said I would not continue this discussion, I could not leave this response unanswered because most of it does not address the points I actually raised.

To respond to your summary point by point:

1. I never claimed that The7 advertised “lifetime pre-made websites library access.”

My concern is the promise of “lifetime updates.”

If customers with licenses older than 12 months are excluded from The7 v15 and from the actively developed release track unless they begin paying annually, then it is reasonable to ask how this is consistent with “lifetime updates.”

The pre-made websites library is a separate issue and was not the main subject of my comments.

2. I never suggested reusing one license to build multiple websites.

As I explained from the beginning, many of my clients purchased their own individual The7 licenses through their own ThemeForest accounts.

Therefore, the Envato rule about using one license for multiple websites is irrelevant to the concern I raised.

3. You state that The7 v14 will continue receiving security and essential maintenance updates.

However, “security and essential maintenance” is not the same as the “lifetime updates” that customers were promised.

You have already described v14 as a legacy version and stated that full compatibility with every future major release cannot be guaranteed.

The unanswered question remains: what does “lifetime updates” actually mean if existing customers are excluded from future major versions and from the main development track?

4. You describe The7 v15 as “essentially a new product.”

However:

- it is still called The7 v15;

- it is the direct successor to The7 v14;

- it is fully compatible with existing v14 websites;

- it will become the main platform for future The7 development;

- customers who purchased The7 less than 12 months ago will receive it.

If The7 v15 were genuinely a completely separate product, the age of a ThemeForest purchase should not determine whether a customer receives it.

The fact that recent ThemeForest buyers receive v15, while older buyers must start an annual subscription, strongly suggests that it is being treated as an update based on purchase age, not as an entirely unrelated product.

Calling it “essentially a new product in modern market terms” does not change the conditions under which existing customers originally purchased The7.

My concern has never been about importing unlimited demos or reusing licenses. It is about the meaning of “lifetime updates” and the decision to exclude older customers from the next version and the active development track.

This will be my final response, as I believe my position is now sufficiently clear.

1 and 3. The7 v15 will include new features. The7 v14 will not. The wording “lifetime updates” creates unnecessary confusion, similar to what was demonstrated in this discussion. Therefore, we will refrain from using it in all future communications.

2. I never implied that you did. If my words gave you that impression, I sincerely apologise. That remark was made only to explain why we consider 12 months of library access sufficient.

4. The name is secondary. That does not change the fact that v15 is an architectural overhaul. v14 > v15 compatibility is being achieved via a sequence of DB migrations. It was not a byproduct, but a deliberate process, because we initially planned to release it on TF. Unfortunately, that is no longer feasible.

Hi I just tried to add a support ticket and got a message upon submitting that said “A potentially unsafe operation has been detected in your request to this site” and I don’t know how to access help now. I have a website that has had The7 for years and suddenly today only one page won’t show the menu or footer. Please help.

Hi,
Seems like Wordfence got a bit trigger happy. Try accessing the support portal now.

I understand that the economics of ThemeForest may have changed and that maintaining a complex theme like The7 has become more expensive. I also appreciate your transparency in explaining the situation.

However, as a long-time customer, I am extremely disappointed by this decision.

Over the years I purchased 43 separate The7 licenses through ThemeForest. I made that investment because one of the main selling points was the promise of lifetime updates. If I had known that major updates would eventually require a recurring subscription, I would probably have evaluated other themes or a different licensing model.

I fully understand the need for a sustainable business model going forward. What I find difficult to accept is that the licensing model is effectively changing for customers who already made substantial investments under different expectations.

Existing customers helped make The7 successful. Many of us recommended it to clients and built dozens of websites around it because we trusted the licensing model that was being offered at the time.

I believe a fairer solution would be to provide a permanent grandfather policy for long-time customers—for example, lifetime access to future theme updates for existing licenses, or at least a heavily discounted migration to the new licensing system based on the number of licenses already purchased.

I sincerely hope you reconsider how existing customers are treated. Trust, once lost, is much harder to rebuild than revenue.

Hi,
All fair points, and I understand why someone who purchased 43 licenses would be disappointed. But a couple of things are not factually correct:

> I made that investment because one of the main selling points was the promise of lifetime updates.

The7 v14 will continue to receive security and essential maintenance updates. So we are keeping our end of the deal. Existing websites will not stop working, and existing licenses are not being disabled.

However, ThemeForest licensing and update delivery rely entirely on Envato’s APIs. The moment those APIs go offline, we will no longer be able to validate licenses or deliver updates through that system.

The7 v15 will be opt-in. Nobody will be upgraded automatically. If you decide to upgrade, you will do so consciously, with full knowledge that a subscription is the way forward.

We could technically rename The7 v15 to “The7 One,” as some other elite authors are doing, and present it as a separate product :) But I would rather be transparent about what it actually is: the next generation of The7.

> I believe a fairer solution would be to provide a permanent grandfather policy for long-time customers—[...] at least a heavily discounted migration to the new licensing system [...]

That is why The7 Unlimited is priced at $199/249/year. This is already at the low end of the market, and it replaces the need to purchase and maintain dozens of separate licenses.

Also, as soon as v15 goes live a $29/year The7 Update plan will be available to all ThemeForest buyers. It will provide theme updates and support for one existing website, but will not include access to the pre-made websites library.

I know this probably is still not the answer that will satisfy you. But we are trying to preserve existing websites and continue essential maintenance, while moving future development to a model that is sustainable.

Hello, I’ve purchased many The7 licenses over the years. However, you’ve recently raised the price on Envato and switched to a subscription model on your website, www.the7.io.

We need to know what will happen:

1. What happens to previously purchased licenses and those we continue to purchase from Envato? Will they still be entitled to lifetime updates?

2. If you stop publishing updates on ThemeForest, will my Envato license still grant me access to updates published on www.the7.io?

I look forward to your response.

Hi,
Miroslav here.

First, thank you for being one of the biggest The7 buyers over the years. I genuinely appreciate it.

I’ll be honest: the situation is complicated.

You have probably already read that, under Envato’s new economics, a $39 purchase through ThemeForest leaves us with only $13.50 in revenue. At the same time, the number of buyers across the ThemeForest marketplace declined sharply in Q2 2026. Hence the ThemeForest price increase.

Direct sales through the7.io should allow us to keep developing the theme, releasing new pre-made websites, providing support, and testing compatibility. They also let us keep the direct one-site price at the old-ish $39/$49 per year.

I also understand that, for a large buyer like yourself, paying $39/$49 per site per year may feel like the rules changed after you had already invested heavily in The7.

That is why we introduced The7 Unlimited at $199 /$249/year. Our reasoning is that this is equivalent to only 2-5 billable hours per year and should work well for agencies that use The7 as part of their daily workflow.

Now, to your questions.

1. What happens to previously purchased licenses and those we continue to purchase from Envato? Will they still be entitled to lifetime updates?

Existing licenses remain valid for the sites/projects they were purchased for.

We will continue releasing security and essential maintenance fixes for the current The7 14 through ThemeForest and automatically through our own update servers. That promise remains unchanged.

However, as other major authors are already doing (Avada One being the most prominent example) we will no longer be able to release future major generations of The7 through ThemeForest.

The7 15 is coming in a week or two.

We originally planned to release it through ThemeForest as usual. But when the business burns roughly $300K per year, and ThemeForest now brings in only $5-10K per month under their new economics, that is no longer realistic.

Envato purchases less than 12 months old will be eligible for The7 15 and future updates until the end of their individual 12-month update window.

Envato licenses older than 12 months will require an active direct subscription to receive The7 15 and future major updates.

It is important to note that existing websites will continue working with the installed version of The7. They will not suddenly stop or brick overnight.

2. If you stop publishing updates on ThemeForest, will my Envato license still grant me access to updates published on www.the7.io?

Yes, as I mentioned previously, The7 14 security updates will be released via our servers.

But there is also a longer-term risk on the Envato side. We do not know how long ThemeForest will remain operational. Based on the current trajectory, my own estimate is that it has 6-12 months of life left.

Envato licensing and updates are fully tied to their API. If that API eventually goes offline, ThemeForest-based update access goes offline with it. That is another reason we are moving to our own infrastructure.

I hope this explains the situation.

Kind regards,
Miroslav

Your ad is showing a price of $39 but the actual price is $59

Hi,

$39 is the price if you purchase directly from us: https://the7.io/pricing/

Why.

As of July 1, Envato replaced its tiered author fee with a flat 50%. For us, that means an increase from 12.5% to 50%. On top of that, Envato keeps the fixed $12 buyer fee included in every WordPress theme sale.
Under these terms, we receive $13.50 from every $39 ThemeForest sale. $59 gives us $23.5, which is what we got under the previous model.

This is true for most items on ThemeForest and CodeCanyon. So if you want to support authors, purchase directly from their websites when possible.

Antrikos Purchased

did you remove the demo import option for older licenses?

Hi,

At this point, we are going in circles.

You are treating continued access to a hosted, continuously maintained and expanded library as though it had been sold as a perpetual entitlement. It was not.

Existing websites, imported content and The7 v14 functionality are not being removed. Security and essential maintenance updates for v14 will continue.

You are also describing an honest explanation of the alternatives as an ultimatum. It was not a threat. It was the practical reality: either the business model changes, or the team and ongoing development eventually disappear.

As for direct licenses, no serious business can promise that its prices and terms will never change under any circumstances for the rest of time. What we can do is state the terms clearly at the time of purchase and honor the commitments that were actually made.

You are free to dislike our decision. But repeatedly calling continued library access “core functionality” and claiming it was sold for life does not make either statement factually correct.

Antrikos Purchased

We are indeed going in circles because you are trying to hide behind “new content” to justify blocking access to existing content.

The library access is core functionality and the proof is your ThemeForest page that literally features “pre-made websites” in the first three promotional images! Nowhere did it state: “Available for 12 months only.”

If you advertise a feature as a main selling point without any expiration warning, buyers expect to use it for the lifetime of that license/product. Stripping it away post-purchase remains a textbook bait-and-switch.

You are free to remove your item from themeforest, but keeping it here, advertising “handcrafted pre-made websites” and never mentioning they are only available for 12 months is…. (you name it).

I’m trying to achieve a simple thing – set a gap between 3 columns (the columns will contain e.g. text). But nothing works…

I’m using WPBakery Page Builder, the columns are still stuck tightly together… Link: https://emu.bestwebhosting.sk/test-3-box/

Any idea ???

Of my 54 The7 licenses, none have active support anymore :=(

I already have that resolved: change on Theme Settings > Optimize The7 for: WPBakery

Is it true that we can’t use the theme without installing a pre-made build? I mean we can’t install Pro Elements anymore from WP Plugins. Pro Elements installs by default when you import a pre-made build. Maybe I’m wrong. Maybe we can install Pro Elements manually from other source.
