Website open for business!
The only hard thing about getting my site up and running was figuring out stuff to write.
This has been my fourth wordpress theme: the first one looked great: but then I realized that nearly every second photographer was using the same theme. The second theme made my pictures look amazing: but it was hard for potential clients to dig for information. I chose my third theme to make it easy for clients to find stuff: but it ended up only half finished and my pictures didn’t look too good.
So I spent a couple of weeks looking for another theme. I had a list of things I wanted the site to do: and I couldn’t find one that fit all the criteria.
Then I stumbled across yours: and finally found a theme that ticked nearly all the boxes. I poked and prodded the demo theme, and it worked the way I wanted my theme to work. So I checked out the comments here: looking to see if you were responsive (and you were!) and polite (and you were, to a fault!) and that there didn’t seem to be any issues (and there weren’t.) So on my limited budget I took a chance, and haven’t regretted it. I LOVE this theme. It makes my work look great! When I need to give it an overhaul next year I’ll be looking to see what else you have in your portfolio.
The only thing I would want to do (and I’m sure its as simple as changing something on my end) is that I’m using the “portfolio” as a “gallery portal” to my image hosting site:
http://bigmark.co.nz/gallery/So I’d like to if at all possible remove the “View Larger” and change “More Details” to say something else. Is that possible?

hi, i just brought your theme. looks great. just have one question regarding the home slides. how do i put footage (pix) inside. i have to go in to the HOME SLIDER menu an load up the pix. well. that’ what i did, but the home slider stays black. can you help me?

Everything works fine. There are some minor bugs but I will write about them later 
It would be nice to have complete list of changes in files (line diffs) like somebody has mentioned earlier. I’m going to custom develop some things and it would be much easier to follow updates

I posted the files that were changed in the changelog, but unfortunately it would be difficult for me to post the exact line numbers for past versions since I had little VC set up. I will try to post the specific line numbers going forward though

In the general settings tab of the theme options panel at the bottom there’s a box titled “Custom CSS”

It looks like you’re getting a simple permissions error. Your server might automatically have set stricter permission rules than most. To fix this, chmod those files to allow the server to write to them. If you don’t know how to do that, your hosting company should be able to take care of it for you very quickly

Thanks for the prompt reply. So do I chmod the files and reimport the xml file? Can I know which files to chmod?
Sorry for the trouble again, actually when I install the Salient theme, I am already getting the error messages at the bottom of the general settings screen. Is there a way to fix this?

You won’t have to reimport the .xml file, the content is already there. The reason you’re not seeing the content is actually a different reason than you think. It has nothing to do with those errors 
. Those errors are just stopping you from using the options panel. The files to chmod are:
home/particle/public_html/wp-content/themes/salient/css/colors.css home/particle/public_html/wp-content/themes/salient/css/fonts.css home/particle/public_html/wp-content/themes/salient/css/custom.css
Once that’s done correctly, you will be able to use the theme options panel
To get the content to show, you simply have to do two things:
1. Assign the custom menu in Appearance > Menus
2. Set the “Front page” to the home page and “Posts page” to the blog page in Settings > Reading

Great theme! Before I buy, I want to have an explainer video in the place of the slider on the front page. Is it possible to have a video that will play in place? And, as an option, have a header and some text to the right of the video?

The functionality to embed / play videos directly in the home slider is something that might get added in a future release, but unfortunately it’s not there now.

I’m trying to set the page-header-bg titles to align in the centre and think I can do it by removing the in the relevant .php file but I can’t find where that is. Can you tell me where to look for it?

Hate to bug you, you’re so good to answer questions (I wish there was a search features on the 16 pages of comments) but -
my site doesn’t require the dramatic responsive resize that happens on an ipad. Is there any way (even if a hack) with the theme to disable that? I haven’t updated to the newest version, however the second-to newest still resizes when in ipad landscape so maybe I’m missing something?

The latest version actually allows the iPad landscape to display the same as the desktop version! You can upgrade right now to get this new functionality. However, there is still one problem with it in v1.2. The scrollbar padding is a bit messed up and I have actually already fixed this, but have other items to take care of before I release v1.2.1
Whenever you get around to updating, PM me if v.1.2.1 isn’t released yet and I will supply the fix for you

Awesome theme thus far and it’s awesome to see great support as well. Just had a quick question:
Would it be possible to create a portfolio that only shows a specific project category. The client has a ton of work for each category and it might be rough trying to load everything then sort. I’m really sorry if that’s already built in and I missed it. If you could just point me in the right direction (creating a new template php file or if it’s somewhere in the functions.php file) that’d be awesome.

Right now that functionality isn’t really there at all, and it indeed would require some development. I can point you in the right direction on how to get this up and running, but could you please post this question on the support forum so that others can search for the answer to this in the future?

In regards to my question above:
In other words, I’m trying to create containers with backgrounds that stretch the full width of the screen, but it keeps getting limited to a specific width. I’m not experienced enough to know how to remove that limit so that the container background stretches out in the same manner that the call-to-action container does.
How do I do this?

All the content that is placed into the editor is automatically put inside of a container that makes it centered. If you remove that container, the entire page will become full width. Right now it would require a little custom development to achieve what you’re trying to do, as it’s not setup for that at all.
How do I put an entirely new call-to-action bar in the center of the page?

open up init.js located in the js folder and head to line 760. Here you can see the variable named “shrinkNum”. Simply change the value of it for the tier your logo fits into.
e.g. if your logo is 70px, it would fall into this statement:
else if (logoHeight >= 60 && logoHeight < 80) shrinkNum = 10;if it was 85px it would fall into this statment:
else if (logoHeight >= 80 ) shrinkNum = 14;

I’m setting up an About me and have a paragraph of text set up with a bar graph to the right of it, but while the bar graph text is in the right place, the bars themselves start at the left margin of the text paragraph and run right across the site? When using any column shortcodes, which I assume you are, it is imperative that you check the attribute “Last Column” for each last column in a row. A row ends every time your columns add up to a whole. If you fail to do this, your columns will not function correctly.
Here’s a functional example of what you are probably trying to set up on the about page:
[one_third] YOUR CONTENT HERE [one_third] [two_thirds_last] YOUR BAR GRAPH HERE [two_thirds_last]

It appears your plugin Better WordPress Minify is altering where the font awesome webont is getting loaded from, and the new path is not correct. Here’s where it’s trying to load the font file:
NetworkError: 404 Not Found - http://zwebdesign.se/wp-content/plugins/bwp-minify/min/fonts/fontawesome-webfont.woff?v=3.0.1The font file is actually located here:
http://zwebdesign.se/wp-content/themes/salient/css/fonts/fontawesome-webfont.woff?v=3.0.1
What you can do to fix it is manually move the font file to where your plugin is trying to load it from, since it apparently didn’t copy it correctly. Or you can simply disable the plugin
