That was quick! The good news is I’m hovering over the buy button, the bad news is that the test site above still has very bad scrolling on an iPad Mini & Galaxy Note 10.1. I think it’s because of the amount of javaScript animations as you scroll down. Can you disable this so I can test again? I’m really keen for a template that works on all hardware. I’m using Chrome to test.

That sounds like it may take some time, can you not disable the JavaScript animations, and host it under http://test.qodeinteractive.com/satellite-static/ I just need to know that it can be fixed, and could do with deciding ASAP? Sorry to appear pushy.

I tested this page using an iPad Mini & Samsung Note 10.1, both using up-to-date versions of Chrome browser. This is what I found:

Test #1 – Pressing on the screen and dragging up & down without lifting the finger: [iPad] No scroll, just judder up & judder down [Note] 100% fluid

Test #2 – Swipe up, then down: [iPad] 200ms delay before juddering up & down, ending with a small amount of scrolling until stop [Note] 100ms delay before scrolling, then 100% fluid

Conclusions: 1. The dynamic resizing of the menu header causes the delays and judder 2. The threading model on Android will delay execution of the header resize until after the scroll, but the iPad will try and do both together.

I compared this with another template (http://demo.udthemes.com/encore/wordpress/app this would be the one I’d have to chose if the judder can’t be fixed) and it was always 100% fluid, even with the parallax effect.

Here is reply from our lead front-end developer

Both issues (juddering) are because of the scroll event on touch devices. iPad stops all events while scrolling, so when scroll stops all events that were occured during scroll are showing then, that’s why juddering is there. On Android devices is a little bit better, since Android devices don’t prevent all events during scroll, but still this is not yet fluid such on PC-s.

Example mentioned above works without juddering because parallax is turned off (probably for all touch devices, tested on iPad4 and Nexus4), but this could be achieved with Satellite7 theme also, by turning off parallax for touch devices in Qode Options -> Parallax section.

Also, we have set test.qodeinteractive.com/satellite to work properly on touch devices so you can test it. Previous version on test server was not updated and reset (since users can access admin and change settings).

There’s definitely an improvement on both test devices.

There’s still minor delays, 50 – 100 ms before swiping actually scrolls the page, especially if you do many small swipes up & down. This may be because Chrome hides its tabs and toolbar when you scroll down, giving the webpage the full screen height, but which adds to the rendering overhead.

Therefore, I’ve tried the same tests as before using Safari and Androids’ default browser, both with noticeably less delays.

I believe these final delays are due to: 1. The dynamic resizing of the header 2. The easing animation of e.g. the iPhones in the “Product Presentation” section

With point 2 above, if you scroll down “without” pausing for 1 – 2 seconds, you see blank spaces where the animation hasn’t shown the images e.g. the iPhones. Dsiabling these animations on these devices could be a quick win.
