Before I get this, I’d like to know:
1. how easy is it to strip down content for mobile view for feature phones? (not smartphones as the responsiveness already caters to that)
2. How easy is it to manage content/update content? (Ideally I’d like it to be as automated as possible. It’ll be a pain if i have to manually fix settings per post).
Thanks.
1) Please excuse my ignorance, but what exactly is a “feature phone”? Sorry if I’m missing something obvious…
2) The good thing about Steam is it has all the settings able to be set in the theme options for all posts/articles/reviews, and then you can change them specifically on the fly for each post if you want, but wouldn’t be required to. Is that what you mean?
Please let me know if I can answer any further questions about the theme, thanks!
@zenkamal & @IndustrialThemes,
- Comments Evolved plugin works well with G+ Comments, Facebook, Disqus, & WordPress Comments. it’s free.
Download : http://wordpress.org/plugins/gplus-comments/
Sweet, thanks a lot for the recommendation, I appreciate it!
How hard is it to add an “Age Gate” to embedded movies? requiring a certain age to view them?
I’m actually not sure, I haven’t tried that before. I know that Steam will work with any functionality that the embedded video has or any functionality that any age gate type plugin would offer, so if you find a plugin or something for this it should work fine with Steam.
I’m trying to decide between two of your themes, this and Flavor. What are the differences? My website will use basic ratings function, but is meant to look very clean and usable (it’s paindatabase.com, switching from a different ratings theme to yours).
Whoops, just read your answer to this question from 3 months ago! So a different question: how easy is it to strip out most of the options (like random article button, pros and cons section, and a bunch of other stuff) so that I can make my site very simple looking but still with ratings?
And question #2:
Do users ever incorporate a comments plugin like Disqus? I want to have both the ratings comments and Disqus, and wasn’t sure if one appears below another one or beside it in a tabbed fashion, or if it works at all?
You can easily disable selected elements like the random article button and the pros and cons via the theme options. As for comments, the theme works fine with comments plugins like disqus. The only issue is that you are limited to users rating at the top of the post rather than in the comments. So the standard functionality of commenting plugins works fine with the theme, but the ratings within the comments no longer work (but again the ratings at the top still work). Please let me know if you have any questions about the theme.
Such a quick and thorough response. I feel compelled to buy the theme at this very second. Getting on that…

By the way, in an ideal situation, it would be cool if there could be two comments systems side by side (tabbed?) so that the user could sign into Disqus or whatever, or they could leave a “ratings” comment so that all the comments that have pros/cons and ratings from commentors who’ve watched the movie or whatever could be grouped together.
For now, I’m fine deciding between Disqus and the ratings system, but it would be cool to have both…in a utopian world.
Just rambling, but on a related note: has anyone found a good way to stop people from rating that haven’t used the product? Like a tooltip or note in the comments box or something? I don’t want the user ratings to be diluted with those that feel compelled to rate without having used the product or seen the movie or whatever.
I will put some thought into having the ratings implemented with Disqus, that’s something I’d like to research for future theme udpates – not sure what all that would entail.
I also like the idea of some sort of verification system before users can leave a review. I’m not exactly sure how I would envision that being implemented, but it is an intriguing add-on that I will think about as well. Thanks for the good suggestions!
And thanks to @rootpost below!
I tried to post this on the Ticksy forum but it did not work. Hi for some reason my login dropdown on my menu is not displaying. I am sure it is something wrong with my code. You can view it here: http://developergenius.com/sticky-php/
What didn’t work on Ticksy? Did you get an error message or something? I’d really like to know if something is not working with the support. In the mean time, you can send me an email with your question so I can help you. Send to support@industrialthemes.com
I just saw your two tickets. Please create a new ticket and if you want to paste in code you need to click the code button in the visual editor and then paste the code there so it doesn’t break the ticket.
Oh that’s strange, when I hit Submit it went to a page: about:blank
Also on the submit a new ticket option there is not a visual editor. That is only on comments on posts. What I did was made a ticket and added a comment here: http://industrialthemes.ticksy.com/ticket/146998
Oh that’s good to know, I wasn’t aware of that, thanks!
Hi!
Any date for the next update?
Currently working on it, not sure of a release timeframe yet…
Before I commit to buying I have a question about the star rating system. Can the stars be replaced easily to another rating icon and maintain the gradual rating increase (1\4 star or 1\2 star) without too much bother? If I replace the star with say a transparent car image with outline will it it fill the car image gradually as with stars or is it fixed for stars only?
Hope that made some sense
That is possible. It would require replacing two images within the images/ folder, and then also change the CSS to show a different icon since the stars are presented using icon fonts. So basically you would need to make sure you have an icon font that you can use (Fontello is great for this) and then also you’ll need to have it in image form to put into the images/ folder. I can show you where in the CSS this currently happens so you can replace it.
yes if you can guide me through it that would be great. I’ll browse at a few other themes, but I am looking to purchase this one. Thanks
also additionally, is it possible to have 6 categories along the top I noticed you had 4 or 5 for effect in the demo?
You can definitely have as many categories as you want, but as far as fitting them in the menu, you have tons of options. One is having shorter category names (obviously), but others would be using the theme options to disable various components to make room. You can disable the left menu, new articles box, search box, login/account buttons on the right, and you can even disable the logo from the sticky menu and put it into the logo bar right underneath the sticky bar (not currently visible on the demo, but it’s there in the theme options for you). You could even make a CSS mod to reduce the left and right padding of each menu item if you really wanted to squeeze more in there – I could help you with that.
ok sure i’d appreciate the help, one last thing, is it possible to put the ratings of reviews within the drop down tab – like you have a list of reviews in the drop down, and below each review a rating? Is that possible?
It is possible but would require some custom theme modification. Might be a bit more involved than the previously mentioned changes, but I could still get you started by showing you where that code is within the theme files. Short answer: yes it’s possible. Long answer: would require a bit of know-how on your part to accomplish.
when you say custom theme modification – are we talking html or php within wordpress, last thing I wish to do is custom edit wordpress only to find that it borks the content when/if moving themes.
oh no it definitely would never be modifying WordPress itself (I absolutely positively never recommend that!), just a spot within the theme file – doesn’t touch or affect how WordPress works
ok consider it bought! thanks

The theme has been working absolutely fine on my website since last update… And I think all the buyers of this theme (including me) wants to know that what new can we expect in the next theme update if you are planning for any…
I do have a pretty long list of updates for the next theme release. I’m not quite to the point where I can publish a road map but I could probably get to the point soon where I could at least list what I’m planning. Nothing too huge, just bug fixes and maintenance updates.
Good afternoon, I’m with these problems since yesterday, and no way to fix them. I thought being able myself but it seems that something is wrong or is failing me. I really like the illustrations, I want that menu, but does not work, why?

Few questions… I notice on your demo the very first article (with the car featured image) has what appears to be a decent chunk of text (excerpt is based on words not letters?) and that doesn’t really bother me, but I notice that article excerpt (and a few others) end with … while the majority end with [...] is there any actual reason for that and more importantly anyway to fix it?
Secondly, through the actual theme options is there anyway to remove the hearts, eyes, comment icons above the images or is that hardcoded? I’d still like the ability to sort by those, but just remove them from above the actual articles on the main page.
Third, the icons under the article titles, are those just arbitrary icons that just get put in as custom fields and we choose the text on hover for each article or?
As for the actual layout of Latest Articles (3 columns) there’s no actual way to select how that’s built in the back-end? What I mean is that instead of Latest Articles (3 columns) there’s no 2 columns or 2 colums with sidebar etc? I’m fairly certain I seen it with other sections but it seems Latest Articles doesn’t really have a page builder type component to it.
Finally, and this is a semi-big one, is there anyway to actually scale the boxes “perfectly”. Obviously jQuery is determining their height, but is there anyway they can simply be “height:100%;padding:20px” instead?
One last quick question, is there any reason why when I’m not logged in there’s no errors (chrome) thrown on the homepage, but if I’m logged in as admin and visit the homepage it throws: Uncaught ReferenceError: yt is not defined
The … and [...] are because some have an excerpt specified and some don’t and just use the content and cut it off, and I can help you fix this. It would also be nice to fix that for my next theme update to just for consistency.
You can remove the likes/views/comments from any of the sections of the site via the theme options without actually disabling the functionality (so you can still sort by them).
Yes – those are completely defined by you in the awards and badges section. You control the icons and the text that is used via the theme options.
Yes you also have 2 columns with a sidebar – it’s just a different page builder component that you need to use instead of latest articles.
Do you mean you want to control the size of the background images within the boxes, or the boxes themselves?
I’m not seeing that error when I’m logged in. Quick question: how are you logged in as admin? Have you already purchased the theme and have it installed? I was thinking these were pre-purchase questions and you didn’t have the theme yet…
Yea, I’m talking the actual box sizes. As for being logged in, I’m currently in the process of doing SEO work for a client who uses the theme. This is my personal Envato account.

Hi Brian! I bought the theme as promised, i’m trying to install the demo package, but when i import the xml file in wordpress, it gives me a blank page and it seems wordpress did not import anything. I’m running on a godaddy server. I’ve already checked php.ini for memory limit which is 64mb and it should be fine, your xml file is only 2mb… Any idea why this is happening?
2mb is the correct size for the xml file. If you are having issues with it please post your question in the support center so I can better assist you: http://industrialthemes.ticksy.com

hey is this theme WPML ready?
I haven’t specifically tested yet with wpml. It is translatable and comes with a .po translation file, but I’m not 100% sure of the wpml level of compatibility. Send me an email to support@industrialthemes.com if you want to discuss testing possibilities further.
For those wanting to change subscription/newsletter service:
I’ve posted a ticket to set the theme with MailChimp instead of FeedBurner. Instructions can be found here: http://industrialthemes.ticksy.com/ticket/143686
Thanks for sharing this info, I appreciate it!
Hi there, pre purchase question. Will the theme before mobile responsive? Its not currently when I view on my phone.
Hmm, maybe you’re viewing the wrong link. Try the direct demo link here: http://www.industrialthemes.com/steam
It is fully mobile responsive.
I saw a comment where you said there were instructions to change from FeedBurner to MailChimp on the FAQs of this theme, but I can’t find it. Could you share the URL for this, please?
It was actually for the Flavor theme but the idea is exactly the same for Steam. Here is the link: http://industrialthemes.ticksy.com/ticket/69833

Thanks for the quick response!
Glad to help.
Hi,
do you plan a bootstrap 3 release for this theme?
It is on my list for possible future theme updates but I don’t know when/if it will actually be updated. Please let me know if you have any further questions about the theme, thanks!
Hi – pre purchase q
How many categories can you fit on the top menu – what happens if you add 7-10 perhaps? Is there a limit
If you add more than can fit in that space it will overlap and not quite look right. It all depends on how wide your logo is (or whether you even choose to display your logo in the sticky bar – you have the option of displaying it below the sticky bar instead within the “logo bar”) and how long the titles of your categories are.
Ok so im looking to fit
Home Cinema Gaming Movies Computing Gadgets Around the home Fashion
In the top bar – might be able to combine or miss 1 or 2 – could you see if they fit / send screen shots to steve at standardcut dot co dot uk
Thanks!
Home, Cinema, Gaming, Movies, Computing, Gadgets, Around the home, Fashion
Check it out, I was messing around on a test install and disabled the sticky logo, search box, and random button and fit them all: http://www.brianmcculloh.com/wp-empty/
Of course I could have disabled the left drop down menu and the new articles drop down, as well as the login info on the right and enabled other parts – you have complete control over what you enable/disable in that bar.
And then there’s always the possibility of decreasing the left and right padding of each menu item (and/or reducing font) which I could show you how to do in the CSS.
I realize you will probably have icons next to all of them except Home so your end result might be a bit wider and require a different set of tweaking…
Hi Industrial, i bought this theme as i noticed it was woocommerce compatible
one issue i have though is when i place the Woocommerce widgets on the homepage it grabs the full pic (but shows it as 90×67)
This is leading to LONG page loads
as my images are 160kb each )
Visit the above link and you will see in the right hand column.
Great theme and am having fun modifying it
Forget that i forgot to “regenerate thumbnails”
BD2A33 is the color for hover but i have changed this in style.css and refreshed cache etc but i cannot figure out why it is not changing the color . Any help would be much appreciated. Yes i have used Firbug and it says index

Hi, with a pre-existing site, I want to make my menu (which are split up into categories/ subcategories as a drop down) into a mega menu like it shows on your demo site. Is the only way to do that is to create a mini site for each category, and use the taxonomies as the subcategories?
If that’s the case would I have to unpublish all my articles to the newly created mini sites or can I assign the old posts somehow to the mini sites?
thanks Drew
The mega menu functionality works with standard WordPress categories and tags, but it only shows the posts with thumbnails. If you want the additional sub-item list to the left of the post list in the drop down you need to use a minisite and taxonomy. You can easily convert existing posts into minisites using this plugin: http://wordpress.org/plugins/convert-post-types/
Please let me know if I can answer any further questions about the theme, thanks!
Thank you. I created a minisite but it’s not showing in the main menu of the control panel. I did ‘confirm’ the minisite, but still nothing

Hi, I purchased your theme and almost finished getting it to look exactly how I want, but I had some trouble.
I used the Videogames and Gadgets minisites to make some tests and wrote several articles. After I finished, I decided to rename the minisites and noticed all my articles disappeared. Is there any way to get them back?
Thanks
