1) Do you think it would take much to employ a 4 star rating system instead? ie. If I just tinkered with the CSS/ edited a few of the images to get rid of one star, would this be possible?
and
2) Is it possible to remove the other star ratings in the review boxes and just add text instead? Is this in built or would I have to edit CSS as well?

Well, both issues can be solved only by customizing theme files. We do not have these options in the theme and you will need to make some effort to get what you want.

Hi. Thanks for quick reply. Just tried; it’s not changing anything. On my shortcodes it’s on line 1359 (I may have an old version of Puzzles, made several changes on it without making child theme, can’t really update it now)
Also change line 1271 in the shortcodes.php to: links=”1”

Sure thing Thanks for the fast reply. I just wanted to ask about the custom background image. How does it work? I have enterede an image, but nothing is displayed and i can’t find anything in the sourcecode referring to the image as well.
Is there some kind of limitation on the field? I have tried setting it in the Theme settings, on a category and on a post. Nothing is shown. The frontend theme changer is disabled and I’m not using the boxed layout.
If it’s not possible i will make a child-theme to enable it myself

You need set some author mark anyway when create review post. It is obligatory. But you can hide author rating in the theme settings – in this case no one will see it, only user rating.
