Sorry to say that you can not show the portfolio filter vertical to the side of the portfolios. But you can change the color on the hover and active filter element in the content box by using the custom CSS:
ul.nav-pills > li.active > a:hover, ul.nav-pills > li.active > a:focus { background-color: red !important; } .nav > li > a:hover, .nav > li > a:focus { background: red !important; color: white !important; }

Hi i see in the comments that porto is Compatible with qTranslate X plugin.
i seam to have a bug with the breadcrumb.
if you have a page in a sub-page of 2 lv deep or more the breadcrumb will show both language.
exp: home / about us / cats / fur /and so on
only the home / and the last sub page would be ok.
exp: home / [en]about us[fr]à propos de nous[:] / [en]cats[fr]chat[;] / fur
home and fur will be ok but the rest shows [en] [fr] [:] so qTranslate X is not translating it.

this is with more then 2 sub page gives the same bug in main language and not.

so i would need to know the name of the apply_filters so i can add the name to the “Custom Fields” so it will be searched in HTML elements to make them multilingual.

I have purchased your theme and created a website with over 4000 products. After creating the website, i realised that the website is too slow. The loading time of the website is over 15 sec.. This is huge setback. I checked the document and followed the process written for Caching the website. But the website speed doesn’t improved at all.

I found that you are using the Old version of theme and plugins. Please update your theme to the latest Porto and all plugins as well. I hope after the theme update your issue will solve auto.
