Paperio is purely a blog minimal theme and do not have page builder or shortcodes, so that featured area can be available in default posts or blog home page only and not in any other pages.

As per WordPress default top featured image is static fixed image with no link or popup. For images in content to have lightbox popup you can use any plugin or implement it by theme customisation.

Add post and visibility of the content in front site should work fine if there is no conflict of css or any other features from any plugins you may be using because those are WordPress default feature and theme do not overwrite those default features.

Yes we are using those same posts to showcase other styles in the demo under Features > Category Layouts and hence those are somewhat different sizes. But you can please use same sizes in your setup if you are using grid layout and for masonry layout different sizes can work.
