Hey! I’m thinking about purchasing either Huber or Gauge and had a couple questions.

I’m currently working on creating an all-around geek website that also has a side magazine that people can purchase aside from the main website itself. Would the license allow for me to make the website under Huber, for instance, and the magazine still be sold on the website (utilizing an entirely different layout, of course)?

Is there a need to repurchase the theme ever, or is it forever usage (even if support ends after a specific amount of time)?

Is there a way to create multiple home pages that all go to the central hub home page? For instance, websitename.com/topic1, websitename.com/topic2, websitename.com/topic3 and each one act as their own main website for the topics?

Thanks so much!

Hi there,

Absolutely. A regular license allows you to do anything with the theme. You’re just not allowed to resell the theme or use it on multiple sites. There’s no need to repurchase it, just support.

Yes any page can be set up to look like a homepage. :)

Thanks so much! You may have just gotten yourself a customer.

Hi,

you say in comments “Hubs no longer use child pages for tabs.”

But this was very useful in The Review theme (and I created hundreds of child pages for my hubs. So :

1) Is there a trick to create child pages and make them appears as tabs in hubs?

2) Is it possible to switch from the review to huber without loosing hundreds of child pages?

thanks !

Hi there,

1) You can create pages and associate them with hubs to make them tabs. But the default tabs cannot be child pages.

2) Yes absolutely the theme converts all of them for you.

i am gonna purchase this theme anyway, but I want thumbnails of posts on this category list page smaller than the default size… https://huber.ghostpool.com/category/demo-reviews/

Is it easy to change the size of thumbnails? If not, can you guide me how to do that once i purchase the license of this theme?

Hi there, you can adjust the default sizes from within WordPress and add your own with a simple function which I provide info on in the documentation. Also I can certainly help you out after you purchase the theme.

Great, thank you!

Presale Question here – I seem to remember The Review having a feature where by you could, on an individual review, click on the game publisher and it would go to a page where it would show all posts with that game publisher’s name (like a directory). Does huber have that and can it be added to (more clickable tags and an avatar for example)? Id like to use this as a movie review site but would need a way to let people see what other reviews have the same actors or director, for example. The ability to customize attributes on a film (director, actor, writer, etc) would be perfect!

Hi there,

Yes Huber has this feature. You can add as many hub fields (e.g. genre, publisher) as you like e.g. https://huber.ghostpool.com/publisher/capcom-vancouver/

This might be a dumb question, but is this theme fully compatible with all the extensions it uses in the preview?

So I can use this with wp 4.8, but some of the extensions aren’t updated to work with wp 4.8 right? Or is it okay to install bbPress and BuddyPress even though they haven’t technically been updated to work with wp 4.8?

Thank you.

Hi there,

Yes absolutely. The theme is compatible with the latest versions of WordPress, BuddyPress and bbPress. All of these are running on the demo. BP and bbPress work on the latest version of WordPress. If you’re having an issue with any of these please open a support ticket at https://ghostpool.ticksy.com/

Hello,

I really like this theme has everything I need. Although on your Gauge theme i noticed that a review had subpages, like you can go to page 2,3 and 4 of the same review. I wanted to know if this feature is present in this theme? This is the only thing left before I click ‘Buy Now’

Thanks!

Hi there,

Absolutely. This can be done on reviews or any page for that matter. :)

Hello

Can i seamlessly convert my website with gauge to this one without messing up things and having troubles ?

Also, do you offer discount when we already bought Gauge ?

Thank you

Hi there,

1) The theme comes with a theme converter so all your Gauge hubs/reviews will work with Huber. However your hub awards from Gauge are not supported by this theme currently.

2) Unfortunately I am not allowed to offer discounts on themes – this is against Envato policy.

Pre-sale: Are you planning on adding more styles for post layouts? Would love to see more options. Also how customizable is the homepage, can I choose different sliders/grid layouts?

Sounds great, looking forward to seeing additional post layouts and features. Can you display trending posts on the widget? Or upcoming games?

Yes you can do both.

Awesome, thanks for answering my questions. Hope to see some of my suggestions implemented in future updates, as well as some new features added in with upcoming updates. Best of luck on sales, planning on buying the theme in the near future.

someone know how to change social icon in header?

Hi there,

Sorry for the delay in my my reply I have been away for a week.

Thanks.

I am interested in purchasing this theme and currently have the Flavor theme which is outdated. I was wondering because my site is currently built with minisites if there was a migration guide to converting the posts so I don’t lose any of my content. Also, the theme can also be used for film and television instead of just games. I know this second question may seem silly but I have seen themes like this in the past.

Hi there,

I have responded to your questions in the email you sent. :)

Hi there, i was planning to purchase a theme for review and rating website, i found 2 awesome theme for wordpress which is Huber and Gauge. And fortunately both themes are from same developer. The thing which i want to ask or clarify is that, how these 2 themes are different from each other, one that i loved is that rating of Gauge, but in overall page look, Huber has no match. Can i change the rating (like a meter, not like numerical) in Huber, which is in Gauge ? Can I embed video from youtube, directly in Huber, so that I don’t need to upload same video multiple times? One more thing, why Gauge don’t accept rating from the visitors, while Huber doest accept it.

Hi there,

1) There’s a lot of differences, here’s a look at a few of them:

Hubs no longer use child pages for tabs. The Reviews, News, Images and Videos tabs are now part of the hub page. This reduces the number of pages generated, reduces the number of database queries and makes creating hubs even easier.

Hubs and reviews can now be either posts or pages.

You can now add multiple reviews to each hub item (you associate reviews with hubs just like you do with posts). Hubs now include a Forums tab by default for easily adding forum content.

You can now add multiple affiliates to each hub.

Release dates are now treated like a proper date field so you can order by this date, filter by specific date ranges, show only items from future release dates etc.

Add review results to the top of reviews.

Images now work with CDNs and image compression plugins.

Tons of speed improvements.

2) There is an option to change the user star ratings in Huber, but there is no option to change the numerical boxes. This is something you’ll need to do yourself or hire my developer to do for you.

3) Yes you can embed YouTube videos into the theme.

4) Both themes can accept ratings from visitors and/or logged in users.

Am interested in the theme, just a few quick questions. 1. Do any plugins come included into the theme like social logins? I really want that option and ya, want it. Second, I don’t plan on doing reviews but I love typing news and opinion articles. Can I just use the site for that feature? Also any example of someone that has done just that for reference?

O, and does the user submit review feature only work on reviews, or can they submit articles and news as well? Seeking to make a community site.

Hi there,

1) The theme is fully compatible with the WordPress Social Login plugin as shown in the theme demo: https://en-gb.wordpress.org/plugins/wordpress-social-login/

2) I don’t have an example of someone not using it for just opinion articles, but if you don’t create reviews then you won’t see any of those features. :)

3) Users can only submit their reviews to existing user reviews.

I just followed the directions and uploaded the huber.zip theme using the WordPress Admin in WordPress 4.8.

I checked my configuration to make sure everything was setup properly for the theme.

I tried installing/activating the Child Theme in “Theme Options” and it kept giving me an error. The error was a pop-up that said:

“We don’t know anything about this theme”

If anyone else has this problem, unzip the huber.zip on your device and go to huber-> lib-> framework—> theme-setup. There you’ll find “child-theme.zip”. It’s a small file that’s approximately 4KB.

Now go back to Appearance like you’re going to upload another theme and upload the child-theme.zip. Go ahead and activate it and your good to go.

Thought this would be helpful.

Also, really quick, what PHP versions are tested and working?

Just want to be sure.

7.0? 7.1?

And I’m having some trouble with my sticky header. I can’t get it to work…

Hi there,

It sounds like maybe not all the theme files were uploaded properly as nobody else has reported this issue.

The theme has been tested up to v7.0. If you’re having issues with 7.1, you can ask your host to downgrade you to 7.0 to see if this is indeed the issue.

I have answered your support ticket where this discussion can continue.

Solid update 2.1 fixed quite a few issues and the bulk of them are now resolved.

New issue when you changed the query strings to proper permalinks (which is amazing as now the canonical will point to the proper URL allowing them to be indexed)

WooCommerce issues were resolved, the write a review page works, and the image dimensions are resolved when the hub header is enabled now here are some more interesting issues.

If a hub is created as a “page” instead of a “post” it doesn’t appear to load those sub-pages. If I click on news on https://www.thearcadecorner.com/star-wars-the-old-republic/ Which was created as a page nothing loads. However, if I click on https://www.thearcadecorner.com/minecraft/ Which was created as a post and you click on the links then it will load with some issues.

- The hub header doesn’t load everything properly - The sidebar information which displays on the hub-page doesn’t load. - Associated posts don’t show up as they should.

Dear GhostPool friends. I have two issues to ask, regarding HUB – videos tab + comment area

Perhaps, It could be better to place the videos and the text directly in the videos tab in the HUB, instead of the video post listing. The video post listing could be in other tabs, which already show the posts (news, reviews)

Is also possible to add the comment area directly into the hub, I mean the WP comments, as is in the posts. This could be nice to use this for commenting the hub. I know , the user can use the forums, but here in the Czech republic the readers do not want to make any profiles on forums, they want only make the comment quickly.

Thank you for your opinion.

Best regards, David

Very nice coded theme! We like it!!! – But little bit not understand: what is different between a REVIEW-page and a HUB-page? Thank you!

A hub page contains all the info relating to your item (e.g. a game) – this will include news posts, reviews, videos, images etc. So reviews can be part of a hub.

If you need anymore support please open a support ticket at https://ghostpool.ticksy.com/ where all support questions are answered. :)

ZfK Purchased

fastest answer ever! thank you! Means: If I have at start only poor informations about e.g. a game, can I start with a simple review page and If I collect more infos & materials can I change the page to a hub-page!? Cool idea. thxs!

You just create reviews like ordinary posts. You can associate it with a hub page later on, or turn it into a hub.

Requests - Use rewrite to change the query strings on the URLS to look like standard pages IE. https://www.thearcadecorner.com/minecraft/?news=1 can be https://www.thearcadecorner.com/minecraft/news/ – it would appear to be a pseudo page which helps in quite a few areas. Particularly with caching as most caching plugins won’t cache pages with a query string in the URL.

- Set the canonical of the newly rewritten sub-pages to themselves. If they can exist as their own proper page URL or at least a query string passing a canonical to it from Yoast and WordPress as opposed to it going to the default https://www.thearcadecorner.com/minecraft/ would increase the number of pages indexed but more importantly I have found the write-a-review pages to do particularly well in search results for some games.

Enhancements - You could add some styling support natively for the social login plugin for Steam I already have added some basic support all it needed was a bit of styling.

/* Steam Social Login Icons */ .gp-social-login .wp-social-login-provider-steam { border-color: #171a21; background-color: #171a21; } .gp-social-login .wp-social-login-provider-steam:before { content: ”\f1b7”; }

Bugs - The hub association as of the latest update no longer works properly. If I have my hubs as pages, and I want to search for the hub I can’t select the page as a hub only one’s that are a post. Previously I could search for pages, then it was changed to only the ID if we could manually place the ID or use the search function it would resolve the issue.

- You can’t friend request or private message someone on BuddyPress. I noticed that in the BuddyPress implementation there is a display none of the BuddyPress header and then the active one is being called. The issue is the buttons for both private messages, and friend requests are not showing meaning you can’t add friends without going to the /members/ page and you can’t private message anyone at all without writing it from your message inbox and then sending it.

- There are a couple of color options in the admin panel that are using different selectors for RGBA as opposed to hex. I would convert them to use the same color selector for consistency.

- If you activate the hub header and the hub tabs, the images on those pages become really distorted.

- Enabling the post submission tab does nothing

- WooCommerce doesn’t have proper pagination.

Side Note I will be making a video and another plugin for the Huber theme which will help with some of the optimizations that they will be able to download I will comment on here when its done with the video link and the download links.

Hi there,

Excellent suggestions and I will look into incorporating many of these things into a future update.

Some of your points I’m not quite clear on and would love to ask you some more questions.

If you could open a support ticket I’ll be able to ask and answer some of these questions: https://ghostpool.ticksy.com/

Is it possible to disable the review option if your gonna create a “news post” for example? And is there a easy way to disable all the social media options in this theme?

Hi there,

Yes, news posts don’t have any review features unless you add them.

You can remove any social media options. :)

Thank you, bought the theme and i love it.

2 more questions:

1. What php document do i need to edit to make the red banner smaller? it’s a little to thick for me and on what exact code line do i need to edit?

2. How do i get my categories on the red banner like how it’s on the live demo?

Thanks in advance :)

Hi, On a review the hub details are only in sidear or near comment section? Can’t be placed first similar with http://gauge.wpengine.com/call-of-duty-ghosts/ hub details block? Thank You.

Hi there,

Yes this can be done. :)

Hello, I’m considering purchasing either the Gauge theme or this one and I was wondering if there was a breakdown of the main differences between the 2 themes, as they appear at first glance to be fairly similar. Thanks!

Hi there,

I list the main differences on the Huber item page. I’ll paste this below: :)

Huber differences:

Hubs no longer use child pages for tabs. The Reviews, News, Images and Videos tabs are now part of the hub page. This reduces the number of pages generated, reduces the number of database queries and makes creating hubs even easier.

Hubs and reviews can now be either posts or pages. You can now add multiple reviews to each hub item (you associate reviews with hubs just like you do with posts).

Images now work with CDNs and image compression plugins.

Tons of speed improvements.
