AJ, I added raw HTML of my Twitter feed into a column in my footer. I simple need the feed to be centered horizontally in the column but right now it looks left aligned. What code should I add to make that happen?

Hi, I’m a bit late to the party, but I want to transform my website from thunder to total. I make very much use of the faq, services and features post types. I have the visual composer disabled. How should I prepare my site for the new total theme. I don’t care if the post types will not be displayed directly after update, but I would not like to loose them as they generate a lot of SEO traffic. Do i need to prepare the post types to an other type or as a page… somehing.

Total doesn’t have an FAQ, Services or Features post types. So what you’ll want to do is add them which you can do with a plugin easily – https://wpexplorer-themes.com/total/docs/adding-custom-post-types/
You will NEVER lose any post types when switching themes, they just won’t be available if the other them doesn’t support them. But adding them via a plugin will get them back. Just make sure to use the same names.
These are the names used in thunder for the different post types and taxonomies that are not in the Total theme already:
Post Types - faq - clients - features - services
Taxonomies - faq_tag - faq_category - clients_category - services_category - services_tag
Also thunder had some built-in meta options for certain things. If anything doesn’t transfer over, just let me know so I can help with child theme code for this. Total is highly modular so it wouldn’t be very hard to adjust things.

thank you. I will try that. I bought total for the same website, but got used to the easy backoffice of thunder, so I waited as it had all I needed. Now I want to give my website an other look and feel. I like to stick to wpexplorer stuff as it works now and tomorrow and your support was always fast. QUESTION: how long will you support this theme. Don’t tell me until end of 2017

Total is not going anywhere. I’ve put my heart and soul into this theme and I will support it as long as I am alive and selling WordPress themes
The only thing I have in the “pipeline” is awesome new updates for Total.
When making new themes now, I won’t be making anything to replace Total. I’m focusing more on “Blog+Shop” and small niche themes. Total will still be my main focus since it’s my top selling theme and it’s super modular.
In fact my goal for 2018 is to start building plugins that will compliment Total such as “Total Real Estate”, “Total Directory”, “Total Magazine”...etc.

You can always ask questions in the comments. The license is specifically for private tickets. But more importantly it’s to help pay bills and stay in business. It’s actually pretty expensive to run a theme shop with hosting, marketing, advertising, support staff and ThemeForest takes 30% of all sales plus a processing fee and US taxes takes another 30%. And with thousands of customers it’s just not possible to provide unlimited free support for lifetime to everyone.
I know you bought the theme a long time ago and you are just about to use it. So it’s a bit different. The main reason for the support license is people that buy 1 license and use it illegally on tons of websites and ask tons of questions or use it on 1 website but still ask a ton of questions all the time (there are customers with hundreds of tickets submitted and only 1 purchase, we’ve lost a lot of money answering their questions). Having the support license in place helps recoup some of that lost time/money providing support to these customers.
I will always answer all comments, but I really appreciate it when customers renew their support licenses because it helps out and I believe my time is very valuable

The correct way to make items equal height would be using the “equal-height-content” added to each module in the row like this: https://cl.ly/nL9L
The problem though is because of how the pricing tables are designed you won’t see any difference unless you give the modules a custom border or background around the whole thing since by default the borders on pricing elements are added on each section not on the full element.

Hi AJ, Hope you can help. I’m trying to get a local scroll link arrow to work at the bottom of my full screen slider here: chillioil.co.uk (password: hair1) ... I’m using a bit of CSS to give the arrow row a bit of negative margin so it appears over the top of the video… the problem I’m having is the local scroll link doesn’t work to move the page up to reveal the row below. However if i refresh the page with the link in the URL http://chillioil.co.uk/#latest the page scroll works fine. Is there any way I can fix this? Cheers.

Whenever setting up local scroll links in Total you must give it the classname “local-scroll-link”- https://wpexplorer-themes.com/total/docs/local-scroll-links/ – this is to keep the javavascript better optimized and prevent issues with 3rd party plugins that may use hash tag links but aren’t necessarily local scroll links.

Thank you for your interest. And yes you can definitely do that. In fact you can have unlimited number of “test” sites but only 1final site per license. This means you can setup the site locally (usually better/faster before taking it to a live site) as well as have a stagging variation of the live site as you mentioned.

I am having some trouble getting a Slider Revolution Post Based Carousel Slider to link correctly on mobile.
I have created a post based carousel slider for a custom post type and then set the background image for each slide to be the post featured image.
On the slide link & seo tab I have the following settings:
- Enable Link: Enabled
- Link Type: Regular
- Slide Link: {{link}}
- Link Sensibility: Front
The slide links work fine on desktop but do not work on mobile.
I disabled all plugins but the links still didn’t work on mobile.
There are no JS errors in console.
I switched to the TwentySeventeen theme and the links started working correctly.
I tested on:
- iPhone 6+ w/IOS10
- iPhone 7+ /IOS11
- iPad 5th Gen w/IOS11
Theme, plugins and WP are all at latest versions as of today.

This is AJ the theme developer. I tested on mobile devices and it looks like it only works when double tapping. I’m not sure why that would be, the only thing I can think of is the mask – https://cl.ly/nKO4 – which is on-top of the link is taking a higher priority.
If you can send me a zip export of the slider I can better test for you.
However, Slider revolution is much more bulky then if you used the Total carousel module. Have you tried it out to see if it would work well for you – https://cl.ly/nKKK – this module should load much quicker then a slider revolution and because of how it’s coded its a bit better SEO wise.

I think that would work except I have one other requirement. I’m not actually going to use the post featured image but instead I need to use a custom field image created via Toolset Types.
I can call the field with a shortcode or via PHP.
I have been looking through a bunch of the Total docs and I’m not really seeing a way to do this with Total VC modules. I could duplicate yours and update it to do so but I would prefer not to have a bunch of custom VC widgets apart from the theme because that will complicate future updates.
Any suggestions?

While WordPress doesn’t have a built-in filter for altering the post thumbnail ID it’s pretty easy to integrate one. For example:

This code would be added to a child theme’s functions.php file. What it does is it will look for your custom field and if it exists, use that for the image ID and if not use the featured image. The only issue would be if the Toolset plugin you are using to add the field stores the image value as a URL (never good) instead of the attachment ID. Does it do that?

I’ve noticed the “Single Image” VC element does not work with retina images when specifying a custom size. It looks like the data-at2x attribute is missing.
I’m working around it by specifying the dimensions as twice the size and then using custom CSS to size it down correctly, but I thought you’d like to know about that issue.
After looking into this more, I see the @2x resources are not be generated for custom sizes. The @2x generation seems to occur for the other VC elements when selecting an image from the media library, so the issue seems to be limited to this element.

This is because the Single Image module which is a core VC module uses it’s own function for the image cropping so it doesn’t pass through Total’s native image cropping function which generates the @2x image. But in the upcoming update I added a new Total Image module which will support the retina in the theme and have some added settings – https://cl.ly/nK8G

I am using a plugin called Real3dFlipbook to show virtual magazines purchased from CodeCanyon. I experienced an error whereby a page would skip using an advance page button. On contacting the developer they inform me of the following [quote]”I found that your theme has some custom event handling and redispatching. Single click event creates one “mouseup” and one “tap” event and that causes bugs in flipbook. That happens in script wpex.min.js. Flipbook listens both click and tap because there are laptops with touch screen but those two events should never happen at the same time.You might try another theme or contact theme author how to disable that feature.” Is this something that you would agree with and if so how could I disable and what other functionality would this affect? Unfortunately I don’t have access to that plugin so I’m not able to test. Would it be possible to first go to Theme Panel and disable the minify javascript – https://wpexplorer-themes.com/total/docs/minify-javascript/ – the file the plugin developer mentions has all the theme’s scripts combined. If you disable the minify function the theme will load each javascript file as it’s own un-minified this way the plugin developer can tell you exactly which code they believe is causing the issue so I can look into it.
The theme does include a couple libraries for touch events – TouchSwipe and tocca but these shouldn’t be altering the default events for other scripts.
If you want you can also have the plugin author email me directly at wpexplorer ( at gmail dot com) I would be more then happy to work with the plugin author to make sure their plugin works correctly with the theme.

Following on from our previous correspondence the plugin developer for Real3DFlipbook has finally responded after a week with the following:-
“I already posted that the problem, it is altering the default mouse and touch events by another plugin, so single event “click” creates two custom events : one “click” and one “tap”. I’m sending the screenshot of exact place where that happens.
Flipbook listens for click and tap because of laptops with touchscreen.”
The two screenshots refer to the vent in Tocca.min.js. (send separately to your gmail acct)
I have asked that the contact you directly, but his response rate is somewhat slow. This case having been raised in September gives you some idea of his speed

Does Total 4.4.1 support older versions of Woocommerce? I haven’t updated to Woo 3.0 yet (because of a 3rd party issue) and when I updated Total on my sandbox site, the option to customize Woocommerce disappeared from the Appearance > Customize menu.

This is AJ the theme developer.
Because WooCommerce 3.0 has such massive edits if you are using an older version of the plugin and an updated version of Total then none of the Total modifications are applied to prevent issues. So in short, no it’s not compatible…because it’s impossible. There were too many big changes in Woo 3.0 to allow perfect backwards compatibility.
There are important security fixes in the plugin. I would never recommend not updating WooCommerce or any other plugin due to an incompatibility with a 3rd addon. It’s better to look for a different addon that does work or fix it then sacrifice security on your site, especially for a shop where you may have important customer data and it’s your responsibility to keep that information secure.
I would highly encourage updating and seeing about fixing the addon plugin or replacing it if possible.

Thank you AJ for the thorough response. The third party add-on is a multi channel e-commerce solution using the API, which they say was changed significantly when 3.0 was released. I’m hoping they will get up to speed soon, because their systems have become a fundamental part of my processes (i.e. lots of time/money invested in them).
Maybe you can give them a little nudge WooCommerce 3.0 was released quite some time ago.

It’s not going to be possible to disable the open dropdowns on hover easily because the theme uses the SuperFish menu for dropdowns so the opening is done via javascript and it can’t be overritten. You would have to disable superfish – https://wpexplorer-themes.com/total/snippets/destroy-superfish-menu/ – and then add your own javascript to open the dropdowns on click if that is what you want.
It would be much easier to instead find a menu plugin that has the menu style you like then use the header builder to insert your logo and the menu from the plugin to the header.

My question may have seemed a bit strange, but effectively I’d have preferred to have to click to open a dropdown in which the sub-pages are less interesting.
But I’ll stick to current menu for now, and may later reconsider the interface structure.
FYI, regarding my email yesterday about excluding categories from blog homepage, I’ve been too optimistic with the “WP Exclude from homepage” plugin : it breaks the admin page settings !
So instead, in the homepage blog Post Types Archive, I’ve “included” in the query the 15 normal categories, so that the 16th doesn’t appear.
It seems to works fine, and I hope this won’t much impact page loading time.

Including/excluding categories wouldn’t impact loading time. Also if you use a caching plugin on your site then all queries are being cached anyway.

FYI, I’ve also just selected “PHP-FPM” at my hosting provider, who says it can improve performance.

Maybe I shouldn’t really bother with Pingdom and GT Metrix …
The difference is speed can be many things but usually it’s because of the testing center (where it’s located). If your server is located in Australia for example and you have GTmetrix setup to test using a server in Texas, US it may be a lot slower then perhaps Pingdomtools which may be testing in Australia.
Another common issue is your server could be throttling you, so one test could return 1 second then a test right after could return 10s then after 1 second again.
GT Metrix and Pingdom tools are great but you really need to learn how to interpret the data. Make sure you are looking at the waterfall and seeing where the time is being spent. Simply looking at the time or score itself won’t be of any help.
If speed is a concern you should just pay for good hosting with built-in cache and CDN and you don’t have to worry about doing any tests or micro-optimizing things.

Sorry for the delay regarding your question. You will need to use a multi-language plugin such as WPML or Polylang so that you can create the site in 2 languages.
Multi-language sites are basically like running 2 websites and it’s a lot of work to setup every page, menu, category, tag, archive…etc in two languages and also it requires a good server (otherwise it will be very slow). So be sure to take those things into consideration. Also if you decide to use WPML which is the preferred plugin, it’s fairly pricey.
Of course you could always just add a Google translate button to the site if they prefer – https://translate.google.com/manager/website/?hl=yi – but this won’t be a perfect translation since it’s automatic.

Hi Bob,
There is no difference in terms of SEO using the blog or portfolio. Your portfolio posts should be indexable though 100%. If they aren’t can you share the URL so I can see? The only reason your portfolio posts won’t be indexed is if you are using a plugin like Yoast SEO and you added noindex tags to those posts. But by default they should rank exactly the same as standard posts. Don’t waste any of your time moving the posts yet..most likely it’s an easy fix or Google just hasn’t indexed them yet because your site is new or not getting a lot of backlinks.
Did you setup an XML sitemap for your site and submit it to Google?

I noticed that there is a ‘Landing Page’ option in the page defaults – presumably these could be used for different keywords (for SEO purposes) and save me from needing to test out landing page plugins.
Are there any examples of Landing Pages for Total doing the rounds?
I’m presuming that there won’t be any menu items, but I’m planning to put links to the main website in the CTAs. I get these strange ideas every now and then

Hi,
The landing page template in Total simply removes everything from the theme except the main content (removes the topbar, header, footer..etc). So that only your content shows up, which is generally how people create landing pages for products, services, giveaways, deals…etc that they don’t want to look like the rest of the site.
It’s just a quicker way of disabling things then going through the settings metabox and disabling functions 1 by 1. Nothing else.
I believe you are thinking more of AB Split testing where you create variations of current pages on the site to see which convert better, in which case you don’t need to use a landing page plugin since the theme already has a page builder, just create standard pages and then use a 3rd party split testing functionality.

No, not really – I’ve never been into A/B testing.
I just wanted to create a couple of pages, one with the title myebsite.com/keyword-one – and mysite.com/keyword-two, both of which would have new content, and have CTAs back to the main site and an email form or two.
So would the Landing Page option work in this case?
Gotcha. Yes it will work, but like I said it just disables everything excerpt the post content. If you don’t want that simply delete the parts you don’t want via the settings metabox – https://wpexplorer-themes.com/total/docs/page-settings-metabox/
And just use the VC page builder to add your content/forms/etc.

I’ll post this one here as I do not consider it as a support question..
As you may know, visual composer guys will release a new Wordpress plugin soon called Website Builder which has everything as the Page Builder (VC) has.
Will Total theme be ready to support that plugin? because we may buy it to use it with our total theme?

The plugin itself should work with any theme, including Total. At this point I haven’t added any extra code to “migrate” the Total modules over to their new plugin but if more customers request it, then it is something I may do.
If you aren’t going to use the included Visual Composer plugin though I would recommend instead looking at Elementor, it’s far superior to the upcoming Website Builder plugin (in my opinion). Quite a few customers use Elementor with Total and create very nice looking sites.

Hello, I’m using your theme and on our site, there are large white spaces between sections (ie. one between our services icons and our social media icons and then another between the social media icons and footer. I tried adjusting the padding, but that only works for Google Chrome. When I view the website on Edge or other browsers, there is still a large white space. Any suggestions?

What page builder are you using on your site? A lot of the extra spacing is just coming from the default spaces in the page builder you are using.
Regarding not seeing the changes on other browsers. I see your are using caching/minifying plugins on your site. So if you see the changes in Chrome but not other browsers it’s most likely a caching issue. Whenever you adjust the site be sure to clear all site and browser cache.
In fact I would recommend to clear and disable any caching plugins whenever you are going to be making changes to the site, then when you are finished with your changes re-enable the plugin. This can help prevent any caching issues.

I’m using Beaver Builder. I cleared the cache from the page builder, but the spacing is still there. Any other thoughts?

I am not familiar with Beaver Builder so I can’t be of too much help here. But when inspecting the code a lot of the space under the icons appears to be coming from something called “Nextend Smart Slider” – https://cl.ly/nVUI – which again I am not familiar but I’m not sure why this section is even using a slider since it’s just text, icons and a backgrounds. Can’t you just do that with Beaver Builder using a row with the background and the the social icons added in the row, instead of using a slider function?

The excerpt is working correctly for me, I just tested it locally – https://cl.ly/nHos – can you double check the excerpt settings you have for the module. And if you’ve made any recent child theme edits can you check those as well to make sure it’s not breaking the excerpt.
