Hi This theme seems to satisfy all of our council website needs. However, i am having difficulty in getting the document upload facility to work. I have disabled all plugins except the 2 that came with the theme. the document upload button just does nothing for both the local upload and the URL upload. It could possibly be me not understanding something but i would like this feature to work properly Many thanks Pete

I have also been experiencing issues with the weather forecast widget, but I found your advice above regarding the altered format of the location name to help almost everything, and I now have the 2 day forecast that never before appeared.
One thing that is odd though, is the wind speed displays as “m/s” instead of “mph” even though the temperature is displaying properly in Fahrenheit, and the widget control is set to “Imperial”. Is this something in the widget or an issue from OpenWeatherMap.org?

Well you made some gains, but there is also a loss… 
The wind speed is indeed fixed! However, the forecast is gone, again. I only show “Today”, and nothing showing up for the next two days. As I noted above, when I changed my location to be city,country instead of city,state,country the forecast worked as designed.

I have set the update interval to “0” several times for refresh, I have changed the city to a few different ones such as “london,gb” and also “dallas,us” The “Today” information shows and changes with the different cities, but the next two days of forecast does not show any longer. I have the forecast set to 2 days. It was showing before the wind speed fix. The URL is lanarkil.gov

I tried to load the demo content and got a lot of errors. One such error was saying wrong name for main-menu slug or couldn’t be found. I originally installed the Wordpress only download, then tried to download the demo, but that was not successful. Do I need to delete the original theme? Any information on this would be handy.

first, please check out your posts or pages in dashboard if any new items were added after the import. It is possible that the demo content was imported even despite the error messages.

Also, just wanted to mention that when I updated to the version of the theme released today, my footer widgets were thrown into the right sidebar, and my right sidebar widgets were thrown into the left sidebar.

this latest update addressed weather widget issue. Try to set Theme Options / Locale / Weather Data Update Interval to 0 and refresh your page. Also, openweather.org changed the way how to query for the locale weather. Fore example, before I’ve used “stowe,vermont,us”. However, for some reason (maybe just a temporary issue), this no longer works and I have to use just “stowe,us”. The easiest way to check if this may be the problem is to use “london,uk” as a reference. If even this reference address won’t return any weather data, then problem is somewhere else. Try to refresh your cache as some JS files were updated as well.
ad sidebars: this is weird because I haven’t made any changes to sidebars. Are your custom sidebars still present under Appeareance / Widgets?

My custom sidebars were present, but the widgets were moved around and I had to move them back to where they were supposed to be. For example, my footer was effectively deleted because all of those sidebars moved into the right sidebar. I don’t use a left sidebar (no widgets there), but all my right sidebar widgets were moved to the left sidebar.
Also the locale widget is now returning information for my town but it doesn’t match what Open Weather Map is showing. In fact regardless of the location I enter the weather data stays the same. I cleared my browser cache and I still seem to be getting the same issue.
Ad sidebars: I have no idea what could caused it, but I will be keeping an eye on that.
Ad weather: try to set a generic location like “london,uk” and compare it to http://openweathermap.org/city/2643743. I will do additional tests and will release an update if there is something wrong.
I tried using london,uk and it kept the same values regardless of the place I put in. If you go to scphousingauthority.com and look at the footer, those are the values it returns.
The current weather looks ok, but the forecast seem to be off. I will investigate and will release an update asap.
BTW, if values don’t change at all when you switch the address, then the problem is likely in your caching (I mean browser or site caching). However, this does not relate to the forecast issue, there seems to be something wrong indeed.
Hi there! While building a beautiful website with your theme, suddenly I cannot upload media correctly. I get an Error 500 everytime I try to upload a file. Deleting transients did not help. Both methods of upoading don’t work. When I check the existing files via FileZilla, I can see that the file is uploaded but there are no resized verions (i.e. _150×150 etc.). What could be the reason? I’ve checked that the maximum webspace isn’t the reason; I’ve used only a tiny portion yet.

try to enable the WP debug mode, this should display the actual error message instead of generic Error 500. Also, does uploading work when you switch to a default theme like Twenty Seventeen?

Picture problem is solved but I received hundreds of debug notification stating error 1024 “Templates without sidebar.php are outdated”. Can you plese fix that? Also, I received a nessage by Envato today about the new version of Townpress. Since I am not using the 2. version but still the 1. version I wonder if I should install the update.
Ad “Templates without sidebar.php are outdated”: it was already resolved in v2, however even if you are using the v1 it is really not something you should worry about. Simply deactivate the wp_debug mode (which should be enabled only when you are debugging).
Please read more about the v2 here, but the basic answer is that you should not install the v2 update if you are still running v1. It will break your site.
Is there a way to get an excerpt to show a video instead of just a video url?

standard excerpt usually does not contain any HTML. However, if you don’t define the excerpt (via excerpt field) the full post content will be displayed instead (at least for the default post archive page).

...I’m afraid that your theme is a patchwork of few plugins and it’s impossible to customise, you write always the same replay. Themeforest is turning in a such of lottery, 1 theme of 10 is a good theme…Btw thanks for your “support”.

with all due respect but you can’t expect that the theme will contain any feature you want. The strongest point of the WordPress is that fact that you can easily extend your site via plugins. And if you can’t find the suitable plugin, you can always hire a freelancer for the job. Since the WprdPress is the most popular CMS out there, there are plenty of developer specializing in such jobs.
That said, if you are not satisfied with the theme, I can issue you a refund, just say so.
BTW, this theme is hardly a patchwork of few plugins if most important features (events, galleries, documents) were coded by myself.

I am sorry, but I can’t read minds. I don’t know how high is your web design expertise if you won’t tell me. Most of my customers can’t code so if they ask for some sort of customization, I automatically recommend them to hire a developer, since giving them any leads on what file they should check out will be a bit pointless if they can’t code (and the customization itself is not part of the support). So let’s try it again:
1.) all the theme’s widgets and elements (shortcodes) can be found in LSVR Toolkit plugin (wp-content/plugins/lsvr-toolkit-townpress). The Feature element can be found under “wp-content/plugins/lsvr-toolkit-townpress/shortcodes/feature.php”. But honestly, I can’t really image what you’ve described. So please clarify and maybe I will be able to give you more hints.
2.) The theme does not come with any standard posts widget. There is a default WP widget for displaying posts, but since it is a native WP widget, there is nothing I can do about its functionality. That’s why I advice you to take a look into WP plugins repository when I am sure you will be able to find a 3rd party plugin which will add a more advanced posts widget functionality. I personally don’t have experience with such 3rd party widget, so I can’t recommend you anything specific.

I received a message from Envato that there is a new version of WP bakery plug in. I followed the directions to downloand the plug in (zip files) however I can not install the zip files because they already exist in the directory. This Visual Composer/WP bakery and updates are really problematic, can you or Envato provide directions on how to properly update this when new versions come out?

if you have your own VC license, then go to WP admin / WPBakery Page Builder / Product License and activate your VC license. Then you should be able to update via admin. This process has nothing to do with the theme. You can also update via .zip file as you’ve tried to do, you just need to deactivate and remove your current version when doing it that way. Again, this has nothing to do with the theme.
If you would not have your own VC license, then you would have to wait for the theme update which will contain the latest version of VC.

I love the theme, but the theme is dependent upon VC/WP Bakery to fully function. Therefore it should either be clear upfront that one needs to also purchase a license for VC OR there should be clear instructions on how to update it without a license. The instructions that Themeforest/Envato include with their update say NOTHING about the need to deactivate and remove the previous version first. This would be helpful info to have in the instructions, that’s all I’m saying.
Problem is that you are not updating the VC in a recommended way. First of all, just for the record, you don’t have to purchase the VC license. Purchasing one will just make your live easier.
If you are updating the plugin via uploading the newer version’s .zip file, then you just have to remove your current version first. And to remove your current version, you have to deactivate it first. This has nothing to do with the theme, nor with the Visual Composer. It is just how it works in WordPress.
If you have your own license, you can just register it in the admin and then the updates should be managed via admin as well. This is how VC handles it. I am pretty sure there is a description on that on their support page, or knowledge base or something.
However, majority of buyers don’t have their own VC license, so they are using the bundled version which can be updated by updating the theme itself which always contains the latest version of VC (of course there is some delay after each new VC release). Once you update the theme, you will see the notification in the admin which will allow you to update the VC as well in a simple way (no removing of your current VC version is required). I as an author have some control over VC update only in this third way of doing it.
That said, I will be definitely updating the documentation in the future. Thanks for feedback.

1.) I am sorry but documents do not support tags, something like that has to be custom coded, I am afraid that no 3rd party plugin will help you with that.
2.) Again, something like that has to be custom coded.
If you need more advanced management for your documents then you should use some 3rd party plugin instead. The bundled documents functionality is meant to be very basic.

BTW my newer municipal theme Pressville do have support for document tags (with much better documents management in overall) and the same functionality is planned for TownPress as well, but it is at least month away.
Thanks for your replay but on your online Pressville demo I can’t find any search field for document. With pressville is possible to choose that only logged people can view some page (private privilege for subscriber). Is this feature available for townpress as well?
There is a search field on the right side form the main menu. Pressville allows you to password-protect document posts, but that has nothing to do with users. And there is no such feature in TownPress.
Hi after reading right directions for this theme it’s great. That’s why I leave 5 start rate for you, Have question though.
1. How would I make the registration work like it does to keep forum private also for the viewing or downloading of documents private? It would be great if widget shows them like it does name and title, but only allows the viewing of the actual document to registered/log in users.
2. It would be nice if the weather widget would support the color of the overlay text on it’s back ground image. White washes out and in our case would like it to be bright blue or back etc. And if I can figure out how to hack it to use in country weather feed, though will use RSS Widget if I have to, but your widget with the layout and mobile friendly and picture is very good.

I didn’t set the site up using the child theme and the only thing I can’t recreate is the “news” part on the front page with the appropriate personalised news logo. I have set ours up using the backend editor and adding “articles”. How can I achieve the same look as the child theme?

I have two problems: first, when I make text bold in the page editor it doesn’t show up on the webpage, and second, when I add spaces in the page editor they don’t show up either. I have tried adding spaces manually to the text, but it either deletes it, or it has a double space instead of a single space on the webpage. How can I fix this?

I have message before about issues with the API keys and the openweather data not working. I have managed to get to the bottom of the issue. The calls that you use are no longer supported on free accounts, but will still work with keys obtained before it changed. Weather forecasts are still free but only seem to be obtained by using a different call (i think one example is api.openweathermap.org/data/2.5/forecast?q=London,us), so at the moment this part of your theme wont work with any new openweather maps keys.
Would you consider changing this as I use your theme for 2 sites currently and am going to be looking at getting a third licence soon as i am talks for another job. It would make it much easier if it was supported as core instead of me trying to find a way to “hack” the changes to make them work.

After making this change, the script no longer gets an invalid API response and does cache the data correctly as I can see this in the ajax response. Unfortunately the front end still does not seem to be able to parse the data to display though.
(I have tried changing cache interval to 0 to test the ajax returns the data but the JS does not parse it and display it)

Visual Composer is now WPBakery, and I’m not seeing a directory element in that page builder. Is there an updated walk-through for WPBakery?
It does not really matter how it is named now, it still works as described in the documentation. Directory element is a custom plugin added via LSVR TownPress Toolkit plugin, so if you have this plugin installed and activated you should see Directory element when you are adding a new element via page builder. Feel free to share your screen of “Add Element” modal.
Found it! I had place holder text in the page I was testing and didn’t realize the options didn’t show up unless you had a blank page. I’m still somewhat new to this.

(Framework, Directory,Events,Galleries, Documents,People,Envato Market) I did not expect Tailor to be in Zip
Only Jscomposer, LSVR Toolkit (TownPress) and Redux Framework are.
Could they have been missing after you refactor and updated theme?
All I want it to have look of demo, know images are not included. Know I need to install BB plugin for forum etc.

it seems like you are looking at the wrong documentation. Maybe I did sent you a link to the wrong one by accident, because it seems like you are referring to my other theme – Pressville. This is the documentation for TownPress. There are only three plugins bundled (plus Contact Form 7 being installed from WP repository).
All of those mentioned LSVR plugins are currently included and supported only by Pressville theme (however I am working on a big TownPress update which will make them available for TownPress as well in the near future).

I just bought your TownPress Theme and unlike many themes I have purchased over the years, it’s not installing well. I had to do an FTP up load, played around with the extracted dir for a while then it came up as a naked theme even after downloading the 4 plugins updateing them and then installing all 3 demo content, widgets etc.
All I want is it to look exactly like it did in the demo, it’s at www.waiporifalls.com see how it’s broken. Im a volunteer for this small 47 building village and paid out of my own pocket and did not expect this theme to be so differnt from other themes I bought for work. (in that it does not install right after reading and down a day of reading posts recomendations) Any help or a better post source would be helpfull if you can thanks

well first, rating the theme 1star and then asking for help is a pretty bad way to deal with things. I spend hundreds of hours working on this theme and so far it served well to 1500+ customers. I don’t know how many themes you’ve installed in the past but since your account is pretty new I assume this is the first ThemeForest theme you ever bought. It is totally ok to be new at something, you just need to change your attitude a little bit.
I’ve checked your URL and there is no stylesheet missing, you just need to set the theme up properly. I see that you’ve imported the demo content but it does not seems like you’ve imported the Theme Options (make sure the Redux Framework plugin is installed).
Please note that demo images are NOT included (which is mentioned in the item description and it is a common case for ThemeForest themes). Also, even after you import the demo Theme Options, there are some more steps involved to make it look like the demo, for example you need to set up your menus and widgets and manually set some Theme Options which cannot be imported (like header background image for example). Read the whole documentation please.
Hopefully you will make it work eventually and change your bad rating since I am usually not eager to help buyers who do no respect my work. Anyway, I can always issue you a refund, just let me know.

Yes that is the difference. manual steps. The other themes I used just did it, Your Them the demo looks perfect five star so don’t get upset once I get it to work will change review, just spent hours and I’m a volunteer for the village and bought theme out of pocket myself. Sorry irked, Envato biolerplate and 5 hours wait from them made me mad
I am checking your site and the only things which are missing are header logo and background image (which can be set under Theme Options), menu (which can be set under Appearance / Menus) and you haven’t set your front page under Settings / Reading. If you just followed the documentation then it could have been already done.
