Quick question: Where can i get a list of the available icons in the updated theme? I’ve looked in the docs and went through old questions and the icons don’t seem to be listed any more?

Hi,

please check out the TownPress 2.0 documentation.

Lubos

Instead of using Google Maps for the Map Button, I have a link to another web map I would like to use or I can use the html code to embed it. Is this possible and if so, how do I go about doing it for the TownPress theme? Thanks!

Hi,

are you using TownPress 1.x or 2.0?

Lubos

I am using 1.5.9

Ok. You can copy the header.php file into your child theme. Edit it and you will find the map code starting on line 175. Try to substitute the “gmap-canvas” element with your own code. However, some CSS or even maybe JS customization may be needed for this to look good.

Hello! I am interested in TownPress, but my customer doesnt like header, is it possible to change header and make it look like in PressVille?

How much will be such customization?

I am sorry, but I am not available for freelance work. You can hire somebody at studio.envato.com.

The Demo Content simply does not import from Theme Options. ThemeOptions & Widgets import no problem. I’ve waited for over two hours… watching, waiting. Tried logging out and back in again.

Resetting the section.

I’ve tried to manually import the content.xml from the Wordpress Importer it simply will not import. I’ve followed the documentation to the letter. No Content.

Hi,

please use an account with which you have purchased the theme to get support. Thank you.

Lubos

Google map on listing directory doesn’t load. Can you tell me what’s the problem? I’m trying with demo content, you can see it using this url: http://www.dummysite.it/agidae/directory-category/prova/

You’re the best theme support I’ve ever had! It works, thanks!

Hi I have a question… I have purchesed and used the theme and and I find the slide menu (header menu) used on the reponsive – medium devices is beter than the one actualy in use on the side menu. it is possible to change the side menu and use the slide menu ?

but I don’t understand this feature on the menu is very cool is it difficult to copy it on the side menu? I hope you can doit on the new townpress version. becouse i foud the menu is a let dodown on such a very good theme

Even though they do display the same menu, there are two different elements, codewise.

Why it’s menu a let down? It is a pretty standard working menu. Actually, the fact that the submenu stays visible when the parent item is active is a pretty unique feature (and can be turned off eventually). I do no plan to add accordion like functionality for the side menu for the initial 2.0 release, maybe in the future.

ok thanks for the answers

Hello,

Is there any way I can move the map icon (right top left corner beside the search area) to the footer area? is there any short code to the map? (me personally I like it in the header in line with the logo, however it is a request raised by the client who is using the theme, she does not like to see it in the header and prefer to have it in footer)

can you advise please?

Hi,

I am sorry, but you will have to hire a developer for such customization. It is not possible without changing the code.

The theme’s page builder allows you to insert the map into a page’s or post’s content.

Lubos

Lubos, What do you think about me loading the 2.0 version into my staging site to see how much content needs to be corrected from 1.x?

Well maybe I could do the clean start on staging site then? And just add content from the live site as I go,until I get everything moved? And by “moved” I understand that most content would need to be entered fresh. I don’t really use the staging site for anything since I have the live site pretty well running clean. I just don’t want to get left behind in the future when support for 1.x eventually goes away. I really love the TownPress format, and would rather not switch to Pressville.

Sure. There are 3rd party plugins which allow you to reset your WP installation to the “fresh” state in matter of seconds.

Great to hear you love TownPress, the point of 2.0 is to offer all the cool new features of Pressville in TownPress design and to prolong the life of the theme at the same time. Since with the 2.0 update the majority of codebase for both themes is the same, it allows me to develop them almost simultaneously.

I think that’s a great approach. Two nice versions and both updated with your new features. So many authors would just have dumped the 1.x stuff.

Hi! My friend offered this theme for me and I would buy it if you can help to solve my problem. On PC, the header images aren’t fill their space, and they are cut. On smaller devices there isn’t any problem. Have you got any solution for that? Thank you!

Hi,

“the header images aren’t fill their space, and they are cut” I am not exactly sure what you mean by that. Feel free to share a screenshot.

Lubos

Sorry for my english. :( I mean, the header background images on PC aren’t full sized but they are on smaller screensizes. For example, I tried to upload an image about a townhall, but you can see only the top of the townhall on larger screensizes. Can you suggest me a solution for that?:) Thank you!

I guess the easiest way would be to edit you image before you upload it to the site to have a good aspect ratio. For example image in my demo has 2000×600px.

Please purchase the theme for any further support questions.

Lubos,

Is it possible to use WPBakery Page Builder for the main “Posts” page? I was trying to add some customization to a post, (Image and text block) and every time I try it displays the full HTML on the published page, but looked perfect on the preview.

OK thanks, I appreciate your help!

Lubos, Could you please mark the post with my staging site URL as private? Thanks.

Hi, sure. Anyone can flag messages, you don’t have to ask me to do it.

Working with 2.0 theme documents. In your demo in the Documents search page I saw documents displays under folders and I like it. I manage how to use documents but on my Documents page there’s one child-category directory (and that’s is good) but all documents inside parent directory are displays also outside directory, and I don’t like it…Is there a solution for this? There’s a option for the header menu for display like it was in the 1.6 theme version? Thanks for support.

I found a bug, I think…your’s post slider doesn’t work…it works only if one post exist, otherwise it not display anything. check out my home page: http://www.dummysite.it/agidae/

It looks like some kind of plugin conflict. Try to deactivate any 3rd party plugin which wasn’t bundled with the theme please.

You’re right, it was a conflict with slide anythings plugin. Thanks

hi i want to update WPBakery Visual Composer who dont work since few month on my website , i dont want to have to pay for this because it was intergrated with your thme . thx to let me know how can i do for visual composer work again.

THx

Ok, anyway, as I’ve told you in the email, update the theme first and then I can take a look at your admin and deal with the VC issue. I can’t provide support for outdated versions.

ok i resolved the problem , the good directory to DL the update of the plugin is : wp-content/themes/townpress/includes/plugins

All bundled plugins can be found in the full package in Plugins folder as well.

Happy to see there’s a new version as you promised! I was building a brand new site with the last 1.x version and I need to import all stuff in the new wp installation with the 2.0 version of your theme, is it possibile? Is it better to create all page, post from the beginning? Last thing: I noticed that miss the theme option panel in the new version, is it correct? Thanks for your support.

Not sure what I should look for on the URL.

As I’ve mentioned in other comments. TownPress 2.0 is a completely new theme code-wise. Which means that even the stuff like HTML code and CSS classes are different, so your custom CSS from 1.x most likely won’t work with 2.0.

Also, several custom elements like for example Features element were removed. I believe that generic design elements like that should be created either via default page builder elements (in case of accordions or tabs) or via a 3rd party plugin. However, since this is still a beta and I am collecting feedback, I may bring Features element back.

Ok thanks. I hope Features can came back because is the fast way to add custom elements looking like the integrated element. For now can you indicate how to build element with large icon like “post” or the other integrated element? Thanks for your support and sorry for boring you! :)

I will definitely consider it.

I guess your best bet is to take a look into the official plugins repository. I can’t recommend anything specific, but I would be very surprised if there weren’t something similar.

Noob question. I got my domain set up (Jellico.us) and installed this beautiful theme—but the images didn’t seem to load with it. I know it’s probably a stupid question, but how do I have the images show? I want to use the included ones to start and customize as necessary).

Well, the person behind that site apparently downloaded them off my demo site and if he haven’t bough the license from photodune.net, then he is basically using those images illegally. But if someone wants to use a stock photos for his town portal then who am I to judge:)

BTW, if you are just about to start building your site using TownPress, then I HIGHLY recommend you to go with TownPress 2.0 beta. It does not contain demo images either, but it offers a LOT of improvements.

Hopefully the last stupid question. I seem to have lost where to change the “News” label in the black box. Not sure if I broke something or just keep missing it. (I deleted the entire site and installed the 2.0 Beta in its’ place—maybe that has something to do with it.)

Hi,

just edit the title of your standard page which is set as posts page (so in your case the page with the “News” title). If you don’t have such page then create a new page, add the title and then set it as a posts page under Settings / Reading. More info.

Lubos

how do I change the title of the menu in the responsive/mobile layout? I want to change the tile “MENU” to “menu in arabic language”, where can I do that? http://www.viiva.biz/11111.png

Hi,

you should translate the theme via a 3rd party plugin or POedit software. Or you can change directly in the code (in header.php file), however I do not recommend that because you will lost this change when you update the theme.

Lubos

Thanks for reply,

However why do we need to go so deep, it is a just a name of a menu displaying on the responsive platform. can you not just integrate its variable to the code in the header? instead of hardcoding it?

Hi, there are many strings which potentially need to be translated. It wouldn’t make sense to make them all translatable via some kind of theme options if there is a standard WordPress way to translate theme via .po/.mo files. This is not some theme-specific thing, it is how you should proceed in translating any WP theme. If you’ve never translated the WP theme before, then you can start here.

Hey Lubos, How much would it cost for you to transition an existing 1.0 parent and chld theme to 2.0 parent and child theme?

Hi,

unfortunately, I am not currently available for custom work. However, just to give you a few hints, the time required to convert form 1.0 to 2.0 will be highly dependant on the amount of your current content like documents, events or galleries you want to preserve. Since those will have to be basically re-set from the scratch. You can theoretically use a plugin like this to convert between between old and new post types (I haven’t tested it myself though), but even if it will work, it will convert only titles and post contents. So things like event meta data (start, end date, location, etc) will have to be set manually for each post.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT: TownPress 2.0

TownPress was released more than two years ago and when it comes to software, two years is a long time. I learned a lot during this period and for the last few months I felt a strong urge to put all this new knowledge into my best selling theme to make it even better. To make it the best municipal WordPress theme ever. Let me introduce you to TownPress 2.0.

The 2.0 update will be available to any existing and future buyers of TownPress. However, there are couple of important things you should know.

2.0 Features

  • All the important features introduced in my latest municipal theme, Pressville, are coming to TownPress as well.
  • New and improved custom post types: listing directory with the map, events with recurring dates, advanced documents management, person directory, notices and galleries.
  • Customization via WordPress customizer with live preview.
  • Modularity of features: each post type comes as a separate plugin, so you can install only those you need for less bloat.
  • Much, much cleaner and up to standards code for easier deep customization (don’t forget to use a child theme for that though).
  • Directory listings, events, documents and galleries will be compatible with the Pressville theme, making switching between two themes much easier.
  • Many major and minor improvements.

1.x Compatibility and Support

  • TownPress 2.0 won’t be compatible with the previous version (1.x). It is basically the brand new theme built upon the TownPress design. This applies to theme options, menus, widgets, custom posts (events, documents, galleries), custom shortcodes, color schemes and code modifications. Basically everything. That means that if you want to apply this update to an existing site running TownPress 1.x, be very careful and ideally hire a professional for the job.
  • Since I understand that incompatibility with the 1.x is a big deal, the 1.x will still be supported. Once the 2.0 will be released, you will find the latest version of 1.x in the full package downloaded from ThemeForest. I will be releasing updates for 1.x to fix any critical bugs for at least several months. However, I won’t be updating the 1.x with the latest version of WPBakery Page Builder (formerly Visual Composer), but the latest bundled version of this plugin can be always found in the Plugins folder in the full package.
  • The current plan for 1.x support is to keep it supported until the end of 2018 (or longer, if needed). However, this applies only to customers who will buy the theme before the release of 2.0 (which should be in January 2018) and will have a valid support. For all others, I will be happy to provide my 5* star support for TownPress 2.0 version.
  • If you plan to stick to 1.x after the 2.0 release, then make sure to deactivate the Envato Market plugin to avoid updating to 2.0 accidentally.

2.0 Beta

  • 2.0 beta will be available in the next TownPress update (1.6.0). You will find the installable .zip in the Beta folder of the full package downloaded from ThemeForest.
  • Even though it will be technically a beta, there shouldn’t be any major issues, so if you are building a new site, I strongly encourage you to use the beta instead of the 1.x version.
  • If you come across any issues in the beta version, feel free to post them here in this forum or send me a PM. I will be updating the beta version until the official release of 2.0, so any issues will be sorted out as soon as possible.
  • Please note that TownPress 2.0 requires PHP 5.6 or higher, so make sure to check your server setting before you install it (contact your hosting provider if you are not sure about this).
  • Do no use updater plugins such as Envato Market during the beta period to avoid accidental downgrade to 1.x.

Date and Pricing

  • TownPress 2.0 release is planned for January 2018. However, this can change based on the feedback I get form the beta version.
  • I will be changing the price of TownPress to $69 once the 2.0 is released.

If you have any questions about the 2.0 update, don’t hesitate to ask. You can post your message here in this forum or send me a PM.

TownPress 2.0 Beta is now available!

Head to your ThemeForest account / Downloads, download the full package, unzip it and you will find the installable .zip file in the “Beta” folder.

Hi there,

I can easily custom this theme, great ! But it still remain 2 things I can’t translate.
  • The first one is the button “MAP” in the header
  • The second is the “meteo” module, I’d like to translate the word “Today” but don’t know where it is.

Your help would be great :)

Thank you very much.

Hi,

the “map” string is part of the theme’s strings, if you are for any reason not able to translate it via standard way, you can find the string in header.php file.

The weather widget can be found in LSVR Toolkit plugin, preciselly in wp-content/plugins/lsvr-toolkit-townpress/widgets/locale.php.

Lubos

I am getting the following message “Redux Framework Warning select2-css CDN unavailable. Some controls may not render properly. Please wait a few minutes, then try refreshing the page. Unable to load some remotely hosted scripts..” I also get it for select2-css-js and ace-editor-js. Thanks for any information related to this.

Hi,

is this issue still present? Are you using the latest version of Redux Plugin?

Lubos

Tried all sorts but cannot get the weather to display! Any suggestions for an alternative weather widget?

That works but nhulunbuy, aus does not even though it’s in the database. I cleared the cache as described in other threads.

Try “nhulunbuy,au”

Brilliant. Thanks so much for the assist!
