Thanks for your help regarding my previous questions. I have one more; It’s regarding the revolution slider on my website. I made it full screen and on the desktop it works perfectly. It also works great on phones, but because of the higher layout of the phone it cuts off a large part of the slider. Is it perhaps possible to make the slider full width for phones and full screen for other devices?
I think it’s also possible to create two sliders, each with their own corresponding sizes and disable one for desktops and others for smartphones, but I’m afraid this will make my website slower. Is there any solution to this that you know of?

If the slider if set to full screen it shouldn’t cut anything off it should be full-screen on all devices. Are you maybe referring to the background image being cut off? If so, that could just be to how the background was added and because of how some background styles work in CSS (like cover style backgrounds).
Do you mind sharing the live URL or exporting the slider and linking to the zip file for me to test it out and see what’s going on?

The url is: realconcepts.nl. I’m indeed talking about the background image/video. It’s working wonderfully, but I’d rather make the fullscreen slider just full-width on mobile devices. That way, it doesn’t cut off the sides of the background video.
Is there any way of switching between the two?
Because of loading times on small devices and videos don’t auto play on many devices (like apple devices). I think the best thing would be to display a static image alternative on certain devices. It’s very easy to do.

If currently you have the video playing as a background you could instead insert it as a video layer and then hide it on smaller devices and add a static image layer that is only visible on the smaller devices.
That is one way. Another way would be to use the Total visibility settings – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CcZbB6GaETg – so on your page you would insert one row with the slider and then on another row you would insert a simple row and background – https://wpexplorer-themes.com/total/docs/full-screen-rows/ – so you would display the row with the slider on desktops and then the static row on mobile devices.

Hi AJ, Loving Total! But I started setting it up on one domain, and now I’ve moved the whole site to a /dev folder on what will be the final home for the site. I was silly and didn’t deactivate the license before moving and now it complains that the URL doesn’t match.
Could you explain how I can ‘register’ the permanent URL and the dev location?

A quick question with WooCommerce
When setting up product category, the sidebar appears when the product category goes straight to the products page for that category. What if we have sub-categories, in this case the sidebar won’t show up when clicking on that category because the link will take you to the sub-category…
Is there a way where we can have the sidebar for that product category page (where we see the sub-categories) appears? I hope I’m making sense here

To be honest I’m not sure I understand the issue, can you share the live URL?
For enabling the sidebar on the shop you would go to Appearance > Customize > WooCommerce > Shop & Archives > Layout

So maybe you have a different layout on the page than the archives?

I haven’t noticed that option on the theme panel customizer. I thought all I need to do is just selecting what sidebar to use when setting up the category through Products >> Cateogry

The settings under Products > Category are ONLY if you want to change it for a specific category. Always use the Customizer for global changes

Is it possible to enable breadcrumbs as default so they appear throughout and just disble them on certain pages ?
The breadcrumbs should be enabled globally by default (unless you imported a demo where they were disabled). Double check under Appearance > Customizer > General Theme Options > Breadcrumbs.
The ONLY place breadcrumbs are always disabled is the homepage since it’s not needed there at all.

If you are using a translation plugin such as WPML or Polylang all you need to do is create the second language version of the page/template and it should work (already been setup to work and tested).

Hi AJ, I am using Polylang, but i find out that inside Visual Composer Templates didn’t have the button for setting second language as normally a page have. 
is polylang compactable ?
That’s just an issue with Polylang because it doesn’t support non-public post types by default. But I added some custom code in Total 4.5.2 to allow it to work – https://cl.ly/omgZ
Make sure your theme is all up to date:
links in cart page are not using theme defaults and are turning into solid color blocks on hover… this ONLY happens on the cart page. This just happened when I updated to the latest version…I reverted to the old one to see if that was the problem (and it was) Am I the only one experiencing this?

Adding background Image to Row
Aj. can you please tell me what I am doing wrong. When adding a background image to a new row, the image get duplicating as you can see here: https://505shopsmith.com/test/Did something change to row setting ? In the past the image would stretch with the row when the row was set to stretch. May be I am getting old! thanks for your help

It’s possible your stagging site is blocking outgoing connections or has some sort of privacy function enabled. For example I know flywheel stagging sites can have issues with that.

Hmm ok. I don’t see an troubleshoot message (the link is there but when I click on it the page is blank). I’m using the WP Staging plugin – do you think that’s the problem?

The troubleshooting page should be catching all errors unless it is returning an internal server error before it can even run it’s checks.

Hi AJ, Could you give me some advice?
I am able to build pages using the Total theme using the VC modules and page builder, however, i don’t have any CSS skills and am not able to often tweak design elements to achieve a specific type of look.
Would you be able to recommend any CSS courses (Udemy etc) OR some type of an external plugin which can help me tweak design on a css level without knowing CSS?

You could create 2 parent categories with subcategories underneath or use the portfolio”Categories” for the main sorting and then the portfolio “Tags” for the more general organization.
Depending what you need though you could also consider disabling the portfolio and instead registering your own custom post type – https://wpexplorer-themes.com/total/docs/adding-custom-post-types/ – specifically for construction with as many taxonomies registered to it as you want.

Usually these sort of issues happen from installing a broken plugin. Can you try disabling any newly added plugins to see if any are breaking things?

It is not possible to remove VAT reference from order confirmation email. i.e (ex. VAT) and this is very frustrating

It is possible to remove the VAT from WooCommerce, you just have to use some custom code to filter out the default email template content or a 3rd party plugin. If you do a Google search you will find tons of tutorials. Or if you want I can help you, all you have to do is ask

No problem it should be very easy. If all you want is to remove the VAT label/reference you would add this code to your child theme’s functions.php file:

The code above should remove the label “ex.VAT”.
You can use any 3rd party image hosting service to upload the screenshot and then share the link.
I’m setting up a new local test site on my computer with VAT taxes to double check the code and if it doesn’t work see what does so I can send it to you!

I tested locally before sending it and it works for me. You may just have to change “vat” to “VAT” in your case to target uppercase. Can you test?
By the way make sure to put all these tweaks in a child theme – http://wpexplorer-themes.com/total/docs/child-theme/ – the main theme’s functions.php shouldn’t ever by modified.

If you are using the same version of WooCommerce and you don’t have any plugins conflicting it’s impossible for it to work for me an not for you. Have you checked to make sure you don’t have any conflicting plugins or other custom code in your child theme that could be conflicting? Also that WooCommerce is up to date.
What you can do to test (like me) is use this plugin: https://wordpress.org/plugins/woocommerce-email-test/
Then you can add this code to your child theme:

You will notice on my output the $key for the VAT field is “vat-1” which is why my code above works, if the code isn’t working it means your “key” doesn’t contain the words “vat” and it’s something else so you need to figure out what it is so it can be removed accordingly.

When posting for example the following (or similar) page on Facebook, the top image (which was inserted via the top row’s settings) doesn’t show up when Facebook displays the clickable preview in the post. Instead, it’s showing our Flavicon pix. In an attempt to fix it, we added the same picture as “featured image” of the page. Still, Facebook doesn’t pick up the image for that page and keep showing the Flavicon (which is not good from a marketing / click-through-rate standpoint). Yet, when we post the same link on LinkedIn, the proper image is shown.

The way Facebook works is it checks for Open Graph meta tags to grab the correct image. Pretty much all the SEO plugins have this built-in so it doesn’t make sense for Total to have it as well (just added bloat). You should be using an SEO plugin with your site if you aren’t I highly recommend the most popular one which is WordPress SEO by Yoast.
By default it will use the featured image of your post/page for the Open Graph meta image, but you can also manually set it on a per-page basis.
Once you have Open Graph meta setup on your site you will have to run your URL through the Facebook debug tool to clear it’s cache – https://developers.facebook.com/tools/debug/

It looks like you may have enabled the under construction function so pages are redirecting to the homepage. Can you have a look under Theme Panel > Under Construction and see if it’s currently enabled? If not, try clicking the save button and see if it fixes it. Right now it looks like all pages are redirecting to the homepage.

Are you referring to the menu widget? If so there are 2 other styles you can choose from – https://wpexplorer-themes.com/total/docs/custom-menu-widgets/ – for example the simple menu will display all the links and it has no styling so you can tweak the look exactly to fit your needs.

So you can use this CSS to keep them open:

The issue is that the javascript for the toggles will continue running and cause some issues when clicking the parent item. I just added a tweak to the theme so you can completely disable the javascript via a child theme. Do you want me to send you the beta version so you can test that out? And I will send you the beta theme as well as the code needed for the child theme.

Yes I added a tweak in the update. So you can add the following code to your child theme’s functions.php file:

And it will completely disable the toggle javascript.
