hi, I used background image on header and when viewing on Google chrome the background image is not showing. How can i fix it, please?

Thank you

HI Kenny,

Thank you for your understanding. I am finally feeling better now…ugh.

So the background is properly rendering now, but it’s not showing up nicely in Chrome. It appears to be an issue with the fixed placement – https://cl.ly/sL6Q – and cover size. Definitely a browser bug since it work in all other devices and when using a different image (i tested with a few stock photos) it works correctly. So it seems like maybe a computational issue with the actual image dimensions?

Anyway, if you add this Custom CSS to your site:

#wrap #site-header.bg-fixed-top { background-attachment: scroll !important; }

- http://wpexplorer-themes.com/total/docs/making-css-edits/

It seem to fix the issue if you want to test it out. Let me know if that doesn’t work for ya.

- AJ

Hi AJ, Glade to know that are you better now.Thank you so much to your help. It worked. Take care.

Kenny

Great, if you need anything else let me know!

Hello,

How and where can I translate this “Load More” into German?

https://screenpresso.com/=gdRCg

cheers Horst

https://horstschulte.com

Hi Horst,

You can translate the theme using the included .POT files via a child theme. Or the easiest is to use Loco translate – https://wordpress.org/plugins/loco-translate/ – allowing you to translate any theme or plugin string.

- AJ

Hello, I did not get any further with Loco Translate. I wrote the translation directly into the two files. Thank you.

Best regards horst

https://screenpresso.com/=aaBAe

If you want you can send me the updated German .po file and I’ll include it in the next Total update ;)

Hey AJ,

In my 1st Question in here, your theme comments area, I wrote …”when i see your theme was 1st made in 2013 it raised concerns for me that maybe the theme will be too bloated/outdated tech etc, or perhaps not as good as a Premium WP Theme made in 2018 or very recently!

I’m not a developer/coder etc and so have have NO understanding as to whether this is a Valid Concern… But to put my mind at rest, could you give me a few lines as to how buying a theme 1st made many years ago, IS NOT a valid concern …last pre-sale question, I promise.

Finally, glad to hear Total fully supports Elementor page builder as I’ve now decided this is the way to go.

cheers Rick

Hi Rick,

While the theme was made in 2018 it’s been a top selling theme since launch an the only way I’ve been able to keep that going is by keeping it up to date with and making things better an better over time. You can have a view through the massive changelog – http://wpexplorer-themes.com/total/changelog/ – so you can see the theme is definitely not”static” (I’ll be releasing an update tomorrow or Tuesday as well to address some recent WooCommerce changes and add a couple new things). For example when WordPress released the Customizer even though Total used it’s own theme panel I quickly switched over to make use of the new core functionality and slim things down greatly.

I’ve also recently pushed out a big overhaul of all the core files to make use of newer PHP functions an re-code things to use namespaces for further optimization. I’m always looking to make the theme better and I have many developers constantly sending me feedback for future updates. When you have over 30,000K people using your theme, many whom rely on it for their freelancing business, you can’t let it become bloated or outdated. Otherwise people will stop buying it and it will fade away. The majority of my sales are repeat customers.

Honestly a lot of the newer themes you see aren’t even developers it’s people just jamming a bunch of plugins into a basic html framework (maybe that they didn’t even code) and often times copying/pasting code from other frameworks into theirs. Thats why in 2018 you still see new themes being released that aren’t using core WordPress functions like the Customizer or implementing hooks and filters for better child theme development.

I have been the only developer for Total for 5 years now so I know everything about it and when you spend hours everyday for many years working on the same project it becomes very important to you. I live and breath Total, it’s my baby.

I’ve probably lost more time/money just replying to your pre-purchase questions then I will on the single sale after Envato takes it’s cut, taxes, advertising, hosting…etc (it’s expensive to run a business). But I am very passionate about what I do so it doesn’t bother me ;) Which is another reason why I still answer support comments, when many top selling themes outsource cheap labor to handle support.

But like I said, ultimately the theme itself won’t matter as much as the hosting company you choose and if I were you I would spend more time researching that (especially when using a page builder). You can always switch themes and cut your loses but switching hosting can be a bigger pain in the butt and some of them lock you in for a full year.

- AJ

Hey AJ, thanks for your thorough and more-than-a-few-lines – that really answered my question. Cheers

Hi there,

I have a client who bought this theme back in 2014.

He is looking for a website update / refresh – am I able to use the same licence and update his site using the page builder to a more modern demo you have?

Or do I need to purchase again?

Thanks

Hi,

This is AJ the theme developer.

You can ask your client to re-download the theme from ThemeForest under his “downloas”, then you can manually update the site and enter his license under Theme Panel > Theme License to receive updates for the theme and plugins – http://wpexplorer-themes.com/total/docs-category/updates/ – no need to re-purchase the theme.

The concern here is mostly if the theme was ever manually modified that some of these custom edits will be lost so it’s a good idea to back things up so once it’s updated an you’ve properly added a child theme – http://wpexplorer-themes.com/total/docs/child-theme/ – if any modifications were needed they can be done via the child theme.

The only reason to purchase your own license would be to access support and if you do that, you can use the theme for another client since at that point you will have your own license code.

Hi there. An issue has just popped up with my install. We’ve been using the Bridge theme which has VC built in for some time now without problems. Console is giving me an error that ZeroClipboard is depreciated in TinyMCE. Have updated to the latest version of everything, including Bridge. Still there. Can you help>

Sorry – ignore. Just realised the link on WPbakery VC sent me to the total forum.

We’ll if you are ever in the look for a change I’d love to have you as a customer and we don’t have any errors in our theme ;) We’ve had many customer switch over from Avada, Bridge, Divi…etc While my demos may not be as “pretty” as some competitors the quality of my code is incomparable ;) (I am working on new demos though).

Hi AJ,

Google chrome doesn’t support autoplay on our website anymore. I’ve tried many things to get it to work again to no avail. I’ve read that google was planning on doing that, and there are ways to circumvent it (https://developers.google.com/web/updates/2017/09/autoplay-policy-changes) but I honestly don’t know how to do that in Slider Revolution.

1. I tried hosting the videos on our own server. Works great on all browsers (disabled on mobile) except chrome.

2. Youtube link also does not autoplay on chrome

3. Vimeo link works, but doesn’t loop (even though looping is enabled in the settings)

I’ve placed the video as background in Slider Revolution.

Hi,

Honestly, this is 2018 and I don’t think anyone should be using video backgrounds on the site. They just take too much time to load and offer no real benefit to the visitor. All you are doing is slowing down the site causing SEO an usability issues – most the time. If you can use a static image or maybe even a gif that would be best.

Do you want to share a link to your site so I can see how things are setup and offer some recommendations?

Dear author support i just buyed another support session for 6 months for $59,- and i put an support request ticket on the support page. This was on 5-6-2018 19:32 Now it is 8-6-2018 10:16 and i still did not recieve an answer. please help me, i have an dark layer over some pages.

Hi,

This is Aj the theme developer. Looks like my support staff assigned the ticket over to me since it’s something I need to look at and forgot to let you know. I was out of town for a bit. I’ll reply to you right now! Thank you for your patience.

- AJ

I fount that breadcrumbs not show correct breadcrumbs schema anymore. It only has rel=v:url. Others structure like itemscope itemtype itemListElement are not show. So the breadcrumbs are not showing on Google search result like before. I have activate the Schema Markup in Theme Panel.

Hi,

If the site is showing rel=v:url it’s because you are using the Yoast SEO breadcrumbs. The Total breadcrumbs work differently.

Yoast doesn’t make it easy to disable them so you have to use code like this – https://wpexplorer-themes.com/total/snippets/disable-yoast-seo-breadcrumbs-support/

Work now! Thank you so much <3

Hi AJ,

How’s it going? Hope your summer is going well.

I noticed that Woocommerce templates needed to be updated the latest version. Is this something you will be releasing with the next Total update or is there something I can do to in the meantime to address the following?

Total/woocommerce/archive-product.php version 3.3.0 is out of date. The core version is 3.4.0, Total/woocommerce/single-product/add-to-cart/variable.php version 3.0.0 is out of date. The core version is 3.4.1,

Thank you Neil

Hi Neil,

I am doing well I hope you are as well.

I am releasing the update tomorrow or the next day. You shouldn’t have anything broken with your site though most the edits added by WooCommerce won’t break the site if the template are outdated. If you do have any actual site errors though let me know!

The last time WooCommerce made a big update I update Total right away and then there were big WooCommerce bugs that they reverted their plugin version so I had to update Total to revert the changes. It was a pain for everyone not just me but also Total customers. I learned my lesson and now I wait at least a week if possible to make the WooCommerce updates unless there is a security concern.

I’m just looking out for you ;)

- AJ

Thanks AJ. I haven’t seen any issues with Woocommerce yet. So I can wait for the next update of Total.

Hi, AJ. Facebook Like plugin question…

Is there something obvious I should look for if the Total Facebook plugin doesn’t show our Facebook page info? All I’m getting is the widget title. It used to work fine, but I noticed a week or so ago that it doesn’t show now. www.501c3.org/blog

Just added it back to the blog sidebar. Thanks for checking it out!

Whenever I try using your specific page – https://www.facebook.com/foundationgroup/ – it won’t work, but any other page is working.

Even when testing it here – https://developers.facebook.com/docs/plugins/page-plugin/ – it won’t work: https://cl.ly/sLn2

Any other page I test does. I wonder if it’s either a Facebook issue or a setting on your page. Can you double check your page’s privacy settings?

- AJ

Thank you for taking time to look at this. Turns out, it was the country restriction on our page. We had it set to show only in US, Canada, and a few other countries. For whatever reason, that setting was blocking the feed to the plugin. We removed the restrictions, and voila. Fixed. Thanks, again!

Is there a way to change the list style to none (no icons or bullets) using the Bullets element in WPBakery Page Builder without custom css?

Hi,

What would be the point of using this module if you don’t want any bullets? You could just use a standard text block instead no?

Can you explain what you are trying to do exactly? Thanks!

- AJ

Hey AJ,

The point is to utilize a list to structure the data properly–which is useful in establishing content hierarchy. If you want to see an example of a list without bullets, check out the tech specs of any product on Apple.com – https://www.apple.com/iphone-x/specs/ . Sometimes you just want to be able to use a list with no list style applied. You’re right I could just use a standard text block but it seems more intuitive to be able to use your Bullets element in Page Builder.

Thanks for the reply. That makes perfect sense to me. I’m adding an on/off switch for the icon for the upcoming update – https://cl.ly/sGcD

- AJ

Is there a way to change how an element is aligned depending on the browser width without custom css? For example, I want an image to be aligned left on desktop and tablet and aligned center on mobile.

Apologies. I originally said I wanted to align an image but I meant align text instead. Does the same apply? Bootstrap accomplishes this with viewport-specific css classes (https://getbootstrap.com/docs/4.1/utilities/text/#text-alignment). I just wasn’t sure if there was something similar available with Total or if I needed to roll my own css.

There isn’t any viewport specific classes. But it’s a great idea. I’ll add some now for upcoming Total 4.7.

- AJ

Very weird on Bootstrap the medium size is min-width 768px but then the small size is set at 576px so you can’t set any alignment between 577px and 767px…

I’m adding a new doc here – https://wpexplorer-themes.com/total/docs/responsive-text-alignments/

Hello, I want to use Header style 1 with left logo, but want that menu bar would be centered. What I can do?

You can use some CSS like this to center the menu relative to the heaer:

body .navbar-style-one {
    width: 100%;
    right: auto;
    top: auto;
    margin: 0;
    text-align: center;
}

body .navbar-style-one .dropdown-menu {
    float: none;
    display: inline-block;
}

body .navbar-style-one .dropdown-menu > li {
    float: none;
    display: inline-block;
}

I wouldn’t recommend that though because it can cause some issues responsively or conflict with the logo (test first and check on all browser sizes). I would instead recommend having the menu float left next to the logo instead:

body .navbar-style-one {
    position: static;
    float: left;
    right: auto;
    top: auto;
    margin-top: 0;
    padding-left: 40px;
}

Hi, I need to add a widget position that is under the primary and sidebar divs yet still in the container. I thought the hook that I should use would be ‘wpex_hook_primary_after’. But when I use that the widget shows up at the top of the sidebar. So, then I tried to add code to page.php to display the widget just before the <!-.container -> but it still showed up above the sidebar rather than under it and #primary. If I use ‘wpex_hook_main_bottom’ then the widget is full width instead of container width. How do I get a container width widget that shows in the #content-wrap div but after #primary and #sidebar? Thank you.

Hi,

The wpex_hook_primary_after works fine but you’ll need to do 2 things:

1. Set a high priority to make sure it’s added after the sidebar.
2. Clear the ‘floats” since it’s in the same container as primary and sidebar. Example:

add_action( 'wpex_hook_primary_after', function() {

    // Clear floats
    echo '<div style="clear:both;" />';

    // Do your thing

}, PHP_INT_MAX );

Or instead just hook into “wpex_hook_main_bottom”.

- AJ

ThemeForest rendered the code incorrectly it should be – https://gist.github.com/wpexplorer/15c5c2293bf57a81de928778e7b7dab2

Or instead of using an inline style use a classname then target it with CSS to clear the primary/sidebar floats.

- AJ

Thanks again AJ, adding the priority fixed the issue.

Hi again AJ. I am struggling to modify an element in your theme. I am attempting to use an overlay header with “white text” and it’s including a white border that I need to be transparent. See here: https://www.berkshireroots.com/staging/

I would like to have a transparent border on the secondary page nav also, but am using white for now (if i select none, it gives me a light grey border, see https://www.berkshireroots.com/staging/?page_id=843 )

Any CSS hints? I can not isolate the class to modify for the life of me.

Thanks AJ – Oh, an I think I just sold another project where I’ll use Total – I need a volume discount soon, I’m almost up to 10! :)

Bill

oh, and no worries on the discount, i was kidding anyway. :)

“I’m going to take advantage of that. But how do I do so JUST on the home page, with the other pages showing at bottom above footer as standard?”...

Very easy! Simply add a conditional check like such:

add_action( 'init', function() {

    // If it's not the front page return and do nothing.
    if ( ! is_front_page() ) {
        return;
    }

    // Remove callout
    remove_action( 'wpex_hook_footer_before', 'wpex_footer_callout' );

    // Re-add callout
    add_action( 'wpex_hook_header_after', 'wpex_footer_callout' );

} );

- AJ

Always happy to help ;)

Some of the icons (such as the social buttons in the top bar) are not showing up. They show as an animated ”!” and ”?”. How can this be fixed?

https://www.idyllwildarts.org

Please help! Thank you!

I’ve just tried deactivating plugins one by one and no change :/

Please help! :(

Hi,

Everything looks good when checking your site. Did you manage to figure it out? If you still don’t see the icon correctly maybe try clearing your browser cache.

I hope you are having a nice weekend!

- AJ

I am unable to find an answer to moving the Footer Callout to the top of page, just below the Main Navigation. Has anyone been able to make this happen?

Hi,

This is very easy to do via a child theme since the theme is built with hooks – http://wpexplorer-themes.com/total/docs/action-hooks/

I actually replied to someone yesterday wanting the same thing. The custom code would look like this:

add_action( 'init', function() {

    // Remove callout
    remove_action( 'wpex_hook_footer_before', 'wpex_footer_callout' );

    // Re-add callout
    add_action( 'wpex_hook_header_after', 'wpex_footer_callout' );

} );

This would go in the functions.php file of your child theme.

- AJ

OMG I am completely in love with you and this theme. Your response times have been astounding and your solutions are right-on target. Thank you!

For some reason the Template options under Page Attributes disappeared and reverted my pages using them to a default layout. For example, I had a page using the Landing Page template and now it is formatted with a Sidebar. I have Templatera installed. Any idea what happened or how to get the Template options back? Thanks for your help.

Hi,

This is WordPress relate issue an usually this happens for weird reasons…Did you rename the Total folder on your server to something else? Usually this causes the issue, especially if you have an empty space in the folder name which isn’t allowed.

- AJ

Hi AJ,

It appears to have been related to changing the theme information at the beginning of the child theme style.css file. I switched back to the original Theme Name, Theme URI, Description, Author, Author URI, Template, and Version and it works again.

Hi, I just want to put a simple padding: 1rem; around my site-header with no other padding styles applied to the site header or logo. Is there an easy way to do this or do I have to hack it with css?

Oh, that’s because you are using the full-width setting – https://wpexplorer-themes.com/total/docs/full-width-header/ – which I wouldn’t have known without looking at the site ;)

Glad you got it working. I could add a left/right padding option when the full-width option is selected but wouldn’t make much sense otherwise because you generally would want your header to be inline with your main content and adding left/right padding would offset it.

- AJ

I like being able to adjust the left/right padding on the header. I think it’s a matter of preference whether you want the header to be inline with your main content or not. I don’t mind editing with custom css but you may find more people would utilize the option if it was available in the customizer. If you want to see an example of it being used online, check out the basecamp.com header.

Thanks for your help.

Oh yes, in that example they are also using a full-width header, I agree it would make sense especially when the header is set to full-width. Thanks for the additional feedback.

Hi there, I’ve taken over management of a website that has the Total theme (v2.0.1) installed. The previous developer has hard coded changes to the parent theme, so when the theme updates (v3.2.0 autoupdate on wordpress) the site becomes unusable. How am I able to get a clean copy of the version 2.0.1, so that I can identify the changes and hopefully port them to a child theme? We will likely be purchasing a licence from this account to allow us to update to the latest version v4.6.6.1 version from your website changelog). Our goal is to update the theme from v2.0.1 to the current version while keeping the current website design and functionality. If you have a suggestion on how I should proceed with the update, please let me know. Thank you

Hi,

This is AJ the theme developer. If the theme was manually modified it’s going to basically be impossible to update and keep the changes (no matter what theme you are using). You’ll need to make a backup of the active theme then install the latest version. then you can revise the old files for any tweaks. Now, if the developer also renamed the Total folder you will want to also go to Theme Panel > Import/Export and save a backup of the current customizer settings so you can import them after uploading the latest theme version, because Customizer settings in WordPress are saved in the database in a row based on the active theme folder name.

Total is HIGHLY modular, probably the most modular theme out there. It’s coded based on hooks and filters so any modification can bed done right via a child theme’s functions.php file – http://wpexplorer-themes.com/total/docs/child-theme/ – you pretty much never have to edit any theme file or even move a core theme theme to your child theme for modification.

I have hundreds of snippet examples here – http://wpexplorer-themes.com/total/snippets/ – and if you need help figuring out how to properly modify something I’m here to help.

You’ll definitely want to purchase your own license to get the latest version and access to support. If you run into any problems during the update let me know.

I would also recommend to make sure your server is compatible with the WP requirements – https://wordpress.org/about/requirements/ – you are running at least 256MB of memory allocated to PHP – http://wpexplorer-themes.com/total/docs/increasing-memory-limit-to-php/ – and your uploads limit is set to at least 20MB o you can upload the latest version of the theme.

Total uses modern functions for best performance so making sure the server’s PHP version is running at least version 7.0 will ensure a faster site as well ;)

- AJ

Thank you AJ for you in-depth response. My main question now is if I buy the theme I will have access to the latest version, however would I also be able to get a copy of the theme version 2.0.1? This is to help me identify the changes made throughout the theme. Thank you

Hi,

Yes I have backup from all the previous versions ;) If you wanted to do compare the code (there are apps you can use for that).
