Metronic v5 and the old v4 version is not compatible and to migrate to v5 you will need to reintegrate your code with the new version from scratch. We would suggest you to handle the menu link states in your backend code(this is very common way of doing it). If you need to implement this frontend JS code you can use the mMenu class API method “setActiveItem” as shown below:

var menu = new mMenu('m_ver_menu'); // HTML ID:  m_ver_menu
var menuItem = mUtil.get('my_menu_item_id');
menu.setActiveItem(menuItem); // set active menu
//menu.resetActiveItem(menuItem); // reset active menu

“my_menu_item_id” is the HTML ID of the menu node’s(LI element).

If you need the aside to be hidden by default and let user to open it you can use the layout builder to setup the layout as per your requirement and you can download the HTML template with snippets and you can use it in your application by pointing to your assets path.

Please go to https://keenthemes.com/metronic/preview/?page=builder&demo=default layout builder page and select following options:

1. Open the Left Aside tab.

2. Uncheck “Allow Aside Minimizing”.

3. Check “Allow Aside Hiding”.

4. Check “Default Hidden Aside”.

Then you can preview this layout configuration in real time. Please note that layout builder adds special classes and enable some extra HTML code according to your setup. Then you can export your prefered layout’s HTML code by referring to the explanation in the layout builder page. Basically layout builder allows you to download the master HTML template that contains of the partials(header, footer, aside, etc).

Please follow steps:

1) Remove “m-aside-left—enabled” class from the body tag.

2) Remove “m-aside-left” DIV completely from the HTML code.

3) Go to ”” and remove the below line from line #111 in “src\sass\demo\default\aside\_aside-left.scss” sass file and recompile the css files from the edited sass files using the “sass” command line task.
