Hi AJ,
Hope you are well. I have 4 questions:
1. How to set zero delay in menus on mouse over? 2. How/where to set to load blog post when I click on image? Now it loads the image only… 3. Is there any way to create and add something custom (shortcode) in here? https://imgur.com/c0IivnM As on my website there will be events, I would like to advertise them in every single post as well and to automate that. In my case that would probably be between comments and related posts here https://imgur.com/da0B9y1 4. On mobile devices, menu bar with logo doesn’t look good AKA is uses lots of space when scrolling down and reading something… https://imgur.com/da0B9y1 I set transparency but it is not a real solution. Is there a way that menu bar with logo to be removed while scrolling and just to have the menu sandwich button on the right?
Thank you in advance.
Regards, Brando
Hi Brando,
1. I’m not sure what you mean by “zero display” can you please explain?
2. By default the blog image should link to the post, it sounds like you have enabled lightbox which you can disable under Appearance > Customize > Blog > Archives & Entries > Image Lightbox
3. Yes, it’s possible to do via a child theme. Here is a sample snippet: https://wpexplorer-themes.com/total/snippets/custom-blog-single-block/
If you need help with an example snippet for your child theme let me know.
4. It’s hard to tell what’s happening on your site without looking at the live URL. But it seems you either removed the mobile menu via the style option: https://wpexplorer-themes.com/total/docs/mobile-menu-styles/
Or you have changed the mobile breakpoint so that the “sandwitch” icon isn’t showing up at the screen size: https://wpexplorer-themes.com/total/docs/alter-mobile-menu-breakpoint/

Hi AJ,
1. Not zero display, zero delay. This means when u mouse over on menus that have drop down menus, there will no be any delay. Now there is some small delay, and I want no delay at all which means that the menus down show instantly.
2. Yes, it works now, tnx.
3. Ok, will check this and let u know.
4. Thank you however, that’s not what I need. Please read again my question. Everything is OK but it is not convenient having menu bar over when u scroll down, the menu bar just takes lots of space. Is there a solution for it to be removed when scrolling but only the sandwich button to stay on the right?
Thank you.
Regards, Brando
Hi Brando,
1. Oh, sorry I obviously misread that
There is a filter you can use in your child theme to modify the menu hovers and delays. Here is a sample snippet: https://wpexplorer-themes.com/total/snippets/sf-menu-options/
4. So you don’t want the whole header sticky (with the logo), just the little mobile toggle icon? If so, this is definitely possible and there are 2 choices:
1. Use the “Fixed Top” mobile nav menu style: https://wpexplorer-themes.com/total/docs/mobile-menu-toggle-styles/ – and use some CSS to tweak the look if needed.
2. Disable sticky header on mobile via the Customizer and add some CSS for mobile to make just the mobile menu icon sticky on the top right corner (I can help with this CSS if needed let me know). This sounds like the solution you want.
- AJ
Thank you AJ, I will implement that and let you know how it works.
In the meantime, I have another question:
5. I have created new taxonomy with your Custom Post plugin, that is linked to two Post types that has been created before. Question: how to setup this new taxonomy to appear like (category) checkboxes when editing Post types? They are now showing as tags on the right but I need to have check-boxes so I can set primary categories… See these screenshots for clarification: https://imgur.com/uoRMgvs https://imgur.com/uoRMgvsThank you! Brando
Hi Brando,
In order to have the “checkboxes” you need to enable the “Hierarchical” setting when editing the taxonomy: https://cl.ly/9d1894
The wording can be a bit confusing but it’s the way WordPress separates the different types of taxonomies in their documentation so I feel like it’s best to follow their exact wording then try and write something myself as it could confuse people that are familiar with the register_post_type function arguments.

Looks like CloudApp may not be working so the link above may not work. If you can’t see my screenshot here it is hosted elsewhere: https://i.imgur.com/FsCIFCj.png
Hello, one question: In mobile version, if i have 7-8 filter menus, is possible to put an anchor for slide down after the selection? a Simple anchor that when a click on a filter menu slide down to the first image? This is the link: http://www.2rocche.it/
Hi,
This isn’t something built-in, it’s possible but would require some custom javascript via a child theme. I can help with the code if you want some guidance.
- AJ
edit: I modified my reply to you, incase you are reading via email.
Hello, yes please, can you help me with java code? i can’t do it with anchor or css? because i don’t know java… thank you very much
Hi, can you help me with the code? THanks
Hi,
Here is an example of how the code may work: https://wpexplorer-themes.com/total/snippets/total-filter-grid-scroll-to-items-on-filter/
Result: https://cl.ly/65f88f
This would be added to a child theme’s functions.php file.
Now, for Total 4.9 I’m considering actually changing the buttons on mobile to create a select form on mobile rather then stacking the buttons. Thoughts?
- AJ
Hi AJ, thank you for the continuing updates. I have a question / future update request if possible? Is there a way to maintain the top bar left and right content positions on smaller screens so they don’t stack / align center?
Hi there,
Currently the only way to prevent that is using some custom CSS. Example:
@media only screen and (max-width: 767px) {
body #top-bar #top-bar-content, #top-bar .top-bar-menu { float: left; text-align: left; width: 50%; }
body #top-bar-social.top-bar-right { position: static; float: right; width: 50%; top: auto; right: auto; margin: 0 }
}
May require some !important tags if the code isn’t working right.
And depending what you are doing with the topbar, it could be possible to instead tweak the output completely via a child theme and use the default row classes – https://wpexplorer-themes.com/total/snippets/sample-total-grid-html/
If you don’t “need” the topbar customizer settings for example we could hide the panel from the customizer and then do a custom output for the topbar.
- AJ
ps: I could look into adding a new classname such as “topbar-responsive” that can be removed via a child theme or Customizer setting to prevent this, the only thing is no one has ever requested it before so at this point it seems like added bloat and it could affect current customer customizations (unless you can convince me otherwise).
thanks for looking at this and the guidance – much appreciated!
Hi, I have copied the purchase code into the theme license of my website but the page doesn’t take it into account. Unfortunately, I can’t record my license and have some updates. Can you please help me? I have checked on the dashboard as well and there’s no website or url linked to it.
Hi,
This is AJ the theme author.
Do you get any error when you try clicking the troubleshoot link: https://cl.ly/9da5b8
I see your support license has expired so you can’t submit a private ticket but if you want I can provide you an email address so you can message me directly with your site logins so I can take a look. In the worst case I can manually activate the theme for you
- AJ
Many Thanks AJ. I’m going to send you an email to solve it. You’re the best.
If you want to email me please send it to wpexplorer [at ] gmail [dot] com – let me know when you’ve sent the email so I can check, since this email address isn’t used often as support is usually done via the ticket system.
- AJ
ps: Alternatively you can renew your support license and submit a ticket instead:
Hi AJ. Just noticed the site icon is not showing in the browser bar for some reason (Firefox). Any tips?
Hi,
Can you share the URL so I can take a look?
- AJ
Hi,
So I’m seeing a generic site icon – https://cl.ly/de9eae – which isn’t defined in your site code.
By default Total does have a function under Theme Panel > Favicons to define your site icon, if this function is enabled then your site icon defined in the Customizer will not display because the theme wants to use it’s own icon. I’m guessing that’s what you did, was select a Site Icon via the Customizer.
The Fix is simple, go to the main Theme Panel and disable the “Favicons” option – https://cl.ly/709e77
Now, the reason these options exist in Total is because the Site Icon setting in the Customizer didn’t exist previously in WordPress so the options needed to be done via the theme. In the upcoming Total 4.9 update I will actually remove this Favicons panel completely and add a fallback for customers that were using it.
- AJ
Well, it worked, thanks AJ. Here’s another quick Q: is there a way to incorporate the “BBPress” theme functionality into, say, the “Flat” theme?
Hi,
So all the “demos” you see including bbPress and Flat are just demos. They all use the same thing but just have different content and different Customizer settings. So for the bbPress demo all we did was enable the bbPress plugin on the site and added some sample forums and used different Customizer settings just to tweak the basic theme fonts and colors. You can use the bbPress plugin on any Total site and it will work the same.
The Demos are just examples of what can be done so anything you see on one demo can be done with the theme.
Hope that clears things up!
https://bbpress.org/- AJ
Great, what we thought. Probably should have asked in the first place, but is Total also compatible with BuddyPress by any chance?
BuddyPress will work with any theme, including Total, it’s just honestly a pretty “ugly” looking plugin to start so it likely would need some design love on your end.
- AJ
Yeah, we’re familiar with that exact issue. Understand there is no specific css or compatibility coding for BuddyPress then. Thanks AJ. You rock.
There is a “tiny” bit of CSS for BuddyPress in Total, but this stylesheet can be removed if you want and I can explain how
Tried setting up the bbPress demo… no luck. Same dev test site as our 1st successful import of the Landscaping theme, but the importer just spins and there’s nothing on the “homepage.” Any tips appreciated. Thx — new.amestudios.com
Hi,
So first of all, you should not import a demo on a site that already has content. Because of how WordPress works (all posts/pages/images/menus) have unique ID’s, if you import 2 demos the ID”s will clash. There is a warning before importing a demo about this.
bbPress is just a common WordPress plugin for creating a forum – no need to import a demo anyway as you would want to add your own forums and topics. All you have to do is install and activate the bbPress plugin and then setup the basic forums/topics. bbPress auto creates the actual forum pages so your forum will be at site.com/forum/ by default for example.
If you are lucky the site crashed before the demo importer could import content (bbPress demo is very small it should import in under 1 minute – I just tested locally). In which case I would recommend not doing anything besides going into the WP admin and setting up your forums and topics as noted above.
However…you mention the homepage is not showing anything which suggests that maybe some of the demo content was imported, so log into WP and have a look at your settings to see what page is setup as the homepage and what content is on that page.
Like I said, importing a demo to a site with existing content is just not a good idea because of how WordPress works which is probably causing the issues.
Had you just imported the landscaping demo or also customized things?
- AJ
ps: I would also recommend running your forum on your own installation so it’s managed separately easily. You would simply create a multi-site for this so you can have your forum either at forum.site.com or site.com/forum – https://wordpress.org/support/article/create-a-network/ (better for SEO also)
We did not. The content was cleared and reset to a clean installation. Start over without making assumptions please.
Don’t need lectures. Just need the chosen demo content selection to look EXACTLY like the supplied online demo without bs. I’m the customer. Thanks.
Meanwhile, we’ve adjusted our review rating based on this experience.
Hi,
Sorry I wasn’t making an assumption I was simply confused by your sentence in your comment – https://cl.ly/09fe3d – from what I understood you imported it on the same site that you had already imported the landscaping demo which was what I based my reply around. It wasn’t clear that this import was on a new installation.
I just tried the sample data locally and recorded a video for you: https://cl.ly/f91f06 – so you can see there isn’t any known issue. In order for me to help you I would need more information so based on your original comment I was assuming you did import the sample data over the Landscaping demo and which is why you were having some issues.
Now, if you do want me to log into your site and test for you, I can definitely do this. You can submit a private ticket and request it be assigned to me. Otherwise, if you want to try the demo importer again but this time if it fails, have a look at your server error logs and let me know what sort of errors you are receiving and I can help you that way.
Please do understand my perspective reading your original comment and what I would have perceived from that.
Also going out of my way to suggest creating a multisite for your forum for management and SEO reasons, is what I would consider outstanding support. Most developers will only respond to your questions but I go out of my way to take some extra time and provide useful tips to my customers.
Of course I understand your frustration as you are having some issues. But I do hope you can see things from my point of view as well.
Just let me know how I can be of further help.
- AJ
ps: I’ve been awake since 6 am yesterday and it’s midnight here, so I’m going to bed. But I’ll be up in the morning answering any pending questions and tickets.
Thanks and sorry to bother you, AJ.
Honestly, these responses are WAY more than I needed. We have another simple solution now anyway which would not require us to buy another license for Total (one of the reasons we dislike Envato’s model in general).
This aspect was just a small part of an overall plan already in progress, and we’re well on our way with a great multi-site licensed theme. Still love our one experience with Total though and that client is happy, so all’s well. Cheers!

Sounds great. I wish you the best of luck with your endeavors!

How can I normally use the Total blog modules to display my custom posts created with CPT UI? Only the “Recent News” module allows it somehow (but I can’t pick through my custom post type taxonomy..)
Hi,
So the “Blog” modules by default only work for Standard post types unless you use an Advanced query, example: https://cl.ly/901663
But you can use the Post Types Grid or Post Types Carousel modules (which are nearly the same as the Blog Grid and Blog Carousel) modules for displaying your custom post types.
- AJ
ps: I actually made a new plugin if you wanted to look which is slimmer/faster then the CPT UI plugin if you are interested in looking at it:
Thx for your reply! It’s great if you guys developed your own plugin for custom post types! Question tho please: will it be possible to associate a WP template to a custom category? Or only post types? Looks like you remove the field “Dynamic Singular Template ID”...
Hi,
The Dynamic Singular Template ID is not WordPress template function it’s actually an exclusive Total theme function based on the WPBakery page builder. The issue is that page builders like WPBakery are intended for creating pages not categories (taxonomies) so even if you could use a template for a category, there is no way to correctly display your posts. I am going to look into creating the ability for any Total module to display the current query via the post types grid, carousel grid…etc for the upcoming update and see if it’s possible to make the page builder work for archives, it’s going to be a bit tricky but I think it’s possible.
That said, depending what you want to do it may be possible and easy to do so via a child theme. If you let me know what you want to do with the specific category/taxonomy maybe I can assist with a child theme edit for this.

Hi AJ,
I just discovered the Filter Total Grid Via Custom Navigation Bar functionality (https://wpexplorer-themes.com/total/docs/filter-grid-navbar/). Amazing! It’s just what I need for a site I’m working on.
I was wondering if there is any way to have the same sort of function for the Search Bar element. I’ve set up a grid of posts with the custom filters, and I’d also like to have a search box under the filters that brings up matching posts in the same way that the filters do (instead of loading a new search results page). Is this possible with the Search Bar?
Connie
Hi Connie,
Unfortunately there isn’t a search function like this available inside the theme and it’s actually impossible to add as a “separate” module because a “filter” simply checks the classnames of items on the page and shows/hides them. A search function would have to actually search the WordPress database and return the results, this requires AJAX functionality so it would have to be something built-into the actual grid module (not separate) and it’s actually a lot of work to create this function. Also because of how WordPress search works it can be a fairly slow function.
If you need a more advanced search/filter type functionality there are some plugins out there (not many) such as FacetWP which allow you to create this. But pretty much any of those plugins are built-in more for ‘developers’ so they require some coding and there isn’t any good free one that I am aware of.
Depending what you are doing, maybe using a “Directory” plugin is a good solution. Directory plugins often have built-in search/filter functions.
- AJ
Got it. Thanks for the explanation.
Hi, I see your theme have:
- Slider Revolution Plugin
- Integrate with WooComcerce
I have some question about this:
- Dose your theme can add Silder (Slider Revolution) to another WooCommerce Page: Shop Page, Product Category Page, ect…?
- Does your theme can config the WooCommerce Pagination: First, Last, Next, Previous Text, Products per Row, ect…?
Thanks
Hi,
Adding a slider to the WooCommerce product page is very easy. Example: https://total.wpexplorer.com/base/shop-without-sidebar/
This can be done using the Slider option in the page settings on the product page – https://wpexplorer-themes.com/total/docs/page-settings-metabox/
There aren’t options to change the pagination “text” because it uses icons for next/prev instead of text: https://cl.ly/bb78ad
But also the theme is localized so you can translate anything if needed via .POT files in a child theme or using a translation plugin such as “Loco Translate”.
Changing the “Products per Row” is easy via the columns option: https://cl.ly/12c600
If you have other questions let me know!

Hello AJ,
I think for security purpose it could be useful to change the login URL to something custom.
For example: /wp-login.php to /login/ /wp-admin/ to /admin/
Since you already implemented some custom login settings in your theme I thought maybe it could be interesting to add a function to change the URLs too?
Just a thought since you always up for suggestions
cheers, flipstar
Hi flipstar,
Changing the login URL for security is a good idea, but it’s not Theme territory it’s actually not a function that is allowed inside themes on WP.org or sold on this marketplace so it can’t be added in the theme.
Now, in terms of security switching the login URL is a good idea, but it could possible be found, the best solution is simply adding a brute force protection on the login page by limiting how many times an IP can try logging in: https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-limit-login-attempts/
And/or adding a Captcha to the login page.
- AJ
ps: I actually do all 3 on WPExplorer (switch the URL, limit login attempt, and use Google captcha).
Interesting. I am not sure why the marketplace restricts this kind of functions but I am sure there are reasons.
Thanks for providing the feedback! I also already block ip’s on false logins. I’ll look at the captcha too.
It’s just not something that should be added inside a theme because if you ever switch themes you lose your security settings and have to re-add it. Also plugins load before themes, so it makes more sense to have security procedures inside a plugin. Otherwise you could potentially install some random plugin that has malicious code and that could override your security settings done in the theme.
- AJ
This makes totally sense.
Hi AJ, I hope you’re ok, thanks a lot for the new Total update.
I noticed a new green border around arrows in woocommerce lightbox. Is there a way to eliminate it?
https://www.robertorizzoart.net/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/screensh.jpgThank you very much in advance,
Bob
Hi Bob,
Oh, this looks like an issue with the WooCommerce lightbox only (not when using the theme’s lightbox) and it’s happening because you’ve selected a custom color for button hovers on your site and the WooCommerce plugin isn’t correctly resetting button styles
This requires a 2 step fix which I added for the next theme update:
- https://cl.ly/39c0de (replace in Total/framework/customizer/settings)
- https://cl.ly/c0f863 (main style.css replace inside the Total theme main folder)
So you can replace these files or just go to Appearance > Customize > WooCommerce (Total) > Single Product and change the lightbox style to use the theme lightbox instead of the WooCommerce one.
- AJ
ps: Technically it’s a WooCommerce issue but it’s such a tiny fix adding it in the theme is no problem
Thank you very much for your support, AJ! Have a nice day,
Bob
Thank you for continuing to report bugs, have a great weekend!
Can I set different number of columns for WooCommerce categories and products? I need to set the shop to 3 columns for categories (for a grid view) and to 1 column for products (for a list view). Ho can I do it? Thanks in advance.
Hi there,
I’m not sure what you mean exactly. You can change the columns for the shop via Appearance > Customize > WooCommerce (Total) > Shop & Archives > Shop Columns
But I’m not sure what you mean by “1 column for products” Are you referring to the “Related Products”? If so, you can do this under Appearance > Customize > WooCommerce (Total) > Single Product > Related Products Columns
Hi! I need to change default view for WooCommerce catalog / archives. WooCommerce categories and subcategories pages should be displayed in grid view by default (in 3 columns as I set in the theme customizer), while product archives should be displayed in list view, with short description (and page layout should have only 1 column in this case).
I tried many grid/list view plugins, but nothing works properly with the theme, and I see no built-in options to customize these settings. So my questions are:
1. Can I make different layout settings for Woo categories/subcategories archives (3 columns) and products archives (1 column). It would help to make some plugins work correctly.
2. Is there any way to change the default view (grid / list) for product and categories archives using some code or theme customization options, without having to use a third-party plugin?
Thanks in advance.
Hi,
Sorry for the delay, I’m not sure how I missed your comment but just now I noticed you never received a reply
What I am confused about is what you are referring to as “Products Archives”. It’s definitely possible to change the columns (very easy actually and no need for plugins) but I don’t understand what you want to change.
Are you trying to make the related section 1 column: https://cl.ly/555972
Or when you say “Product Archives” are you referring to the MAIN shop page?
- AJ
Hi AJ,
“Product archives” is what WooCommerce calls pages displaying products. We need such pages to be displayed in list view with 1 column: http://prntscr.com/nlvw3o. They display products within subcategories.
And our main shop page displays only categories. We need categories and subcategories to be displayed this way: http://prntscr.com/nlvuoz (grid view with 3 columns).
So the layout for categories/subcategories pages (including the main shop page) should be different from the layout of pages displaying products.
Thanks! Svetlana
Hi Svetlana,
The reason I was confused is because your main shop is setup to display categories and when you mentioned you wanted the “Categories” in 3 columns I thought you were referring to the actual category page displaying products for the category. Now I understand
So to edit the pages that actually show products go to Appearance > Customize > WooCommerce (Total) > Shop & Archives and change the “Shop Columns” field: https://cl.ly/002257
Now for your main shop displaying categories there are some ways to do it, but what I would recommend since it would be easiest is to disable the default WooCommerce display via the option at Appearance > Customize > WooCommerce (Total) > Shop & Archives > Disable Default Shop Output : https://cl.ly/61bcbf
This will give you more freedom for designing the main shop page that shows the categories. So you can edit the shop page and either insert the WooCommerce shortcode:
[product_categories columns="3"]
Or you can use the Total “Categories Grid” WPBakery page builder module to display the categories on the page, this could give you more freedom and creating a custom layout to display shop categories.
Make sense?
Otherwise if you do not disable the “Default Shop Output” option to alter the columns for categories would require some child theme code which I could assist with if wanted.
- AJ
Hi there, at the top of my dashboard I am seeing the error below repeated on 5 lines, please could you tell me how I could fix it?
As well as the error message, the wp bakery page builder is also behaving in a strange way where i can not see any of the layout blocks that make up the pages therefore I can not make changes as normal
Warning: count(): Parameter must be an array or an object that implements Countable in /homepages/5/d536766795/htdocs/2017/wp-admin/includes/template.php on line 1447
Thanks
Hi,
This is AJ the theme author. These count() notices (technically warnings not errors) will happen in PHP 7.2+ if your theme and plugins are not up to date. Can you check to see what version of the theme and WPBakery you are using?

ps: Now I am releasing Total 4.8.5 today if you were planning on updating you could wait for that if you wanted. And of course if you have any questions, doubts or issues with updating let me know!
Hi A.J. When posting a link to a PAGE from our website on LinkedIn, it doesn’t pick the image we use at the top; nor the image we set as “featured image”. Instead, LinkedIn just features our logo. How can we get LinkedIn to pick up the pix we want, similar to what is happening with POSTS?
Edmond.
Hi Edmond,
LinkedIn like all other social media uses Open Graph Meta tags – https://www.linkedin.com/help/linkedin/answer/46687/making-your-website-shareable-on-linkedin?lang=en
These should be added via a plugin. I always recommend Yoast SEO which is the number 1 SEO plugin and includes these meta tags by default.
Now, sites like LInkedIn cache the results so even after adding the tags it can take some time for them to work properly if checking old URL’s so you will want to use this tool for testing and clearing the cache – https://www.linkedin.com/post-inspector/inspect/
- AJ
Thx AJ.
We moved away from Yoast SEO a couple of years ago as we had issues with it. We’ve been happily using SEO Framework ever since. It’s lighter weight, which is fine with us.
Open Graph Meta tags are enabled in the SEO Framework settings.
It looks like the issue is that on a Page, SEO Framework uses for Open Graph the image set for the home page; versus for a Post, SEO Framework uses the specific image set as Featured Image for the Post.
So it looks like for each Page, we will have to manually specify which image SEO Framework uses for Open Graph – given that it doesn’t figure out on its one which image to use, contrary to a Post.
Does that make sense based on your experience with Yoast?
Edmond.
Hi Edmond,
I have never had issues with Yoast and it does automatically use the post/page featured image for the Open Graph meta. This sounds more like a bug in the SEO Framework plugin. I’m not familiar with the plugin though, so maybe something to ask them about.
- AJ
Ok, thx AJ. Good night.
Hi Total We use the shortcode [wpbsearch] in our header, which we’ve added inside the Appearance > Customizer section…to display a search bar near our logo. This works perfectly however, when we update the theme, the search bar disappears and the shortcode shows as just standard text?
Can you help at all?
Hi,
So wpbsearch isn’t a default shortcode in the theme or the WPBakery plugin so I’m not sure how you were adding it.
When I did a Google search for “wpbsearch” I see some tutorials coming up for manually adding a search shortcode to your site, so my guess is perhaps this was added manually inside the theme (instead of a child theme) by someone. Or that it was added in a child theme but when you updated your theme you accidentally re-enabled the parent Total theme (WP shows an option to do this) so your child theme isn’t active now.
Total has it’s own shortcode though which I would recommend – https://wpexplorer-themes.com/total/docs/topbar-searchform/ (this article is showing you how to add in the topbar but could be added anywhere).
- AJ
How do I replace my image with the image on cover of wedding under the Total theme please? I added the plugin and it will not replace the cover picture on home page.
Hi,
Did you import this demo: https://total.wpexplorer.com/married/ ?
If so, the background is done via the page builder so you simply need to edit the page to modify it. Here is a video: https://cl.ly/742b4e
If you imported a different demo or are referring to something else please let me know, I’m not sure what you meant by “cover of wedding” and what plugin you are trying to use.
- AJ
Hello AJ,
I want to add some additional content to the vertical Navigation Style 6 Menu. For example adress, contact information and opening hours.
It would be great if I could add a template or widget but I cant find a pre-made code snippet for that.
Could you please lead me in the right direction how I could achieve that?
Thanks in advance!
An alternative would be if I could be able to use the “Header aside” function you provide in the customizer. Unfortunately its not working for Header Style 6
Hi there,
If you want to use Widgets you can use this little extension : https://wpexplorer-themes.com/total/extensions/vertical-header-widget-area/ – so you can use normal widgets or even add a template under WPBakery > Templates with your content and use the Templatera widget to display the content (assuming the bundled templatera plugin is active).
Now. by default the plugin adds a new widget area for the vertical header so you can add anything extra you want but it will hide once the header switches to the “mobile” style. So it’s primarily for extra content you want to display on desktop only. So maybe what I would recommend is having a separate page on your website with contact info and using the alternative mobile menu – https://wpexplorer-themes.com/total/docs/create-custom-mobile-menu/ – and put a link to this page. This will make it more user friendly for mobile users and so they can easily locate your address, contact, hours. Plus, as a new page it will be indexable by search engines so people can find it quickly.
If you want to display the header aside function that’s also possible but a bit more complex because the header aside field is hidden in the Customizer when this setting is selected so you need code to hook into the Customizer as well as the front-end.
- AJ
Exactly what I was looking for. Did not even knew you got your own little plugins. You never fail to amaze me!
Thanks AJ.
PS: The header aside field is active in the backend/customizer when using the header style 6. Just in case you want to exclude it there to prevent future misunderstandings.
Your welcome! Just let me know if you need anything else.
- AJ
ps: Oh yes, I decided not to hide it for a few reasons (primarily to prevent the value from going away when switching between headers), it was hidden previously though
Hello AJ, do you even get notified when editing this old comments? Lets try
I used you “Total – Vertical Header Widget Area” plugin for a vertical header widget but it seems not to work anymore. It says Deprecated since version 4 when debug is on. Is there a new/better way to get something in the 6. vertical header?
Hi,
Yes, whenever a new comment is added in ThemeForest it shows up in my dashboard
I just tested the plugin and it’s working for me, but I see I did update it last in 2020 so perhaps your version is old. Here is the version that’s working for me: https://a.cl.ly/o0uKWP6g
I would love to upload the plugin to WordPress.org for automatic updates, but there is a big issue on WordPress.org and new plugins are not getting reviewed. I’ve had a new Calendar plugin in the queue for almost 2 months now so unfortunately I can’t upload these plugins to offer automatic updates so if you are using one and have an issue I may need to update and send it to you like this, sorry for the inconvenience ;(
If you have any issues with this version of the plugin let me know! I’m not sure what the deprecated notice you are getting is referring to, I would need the full error notice.
- AJ
ps: I think I may enable the “header aside” function to be used with the vertical header (this is a field that shows up in the customizer when using certain header styles such as the new “Flex” header styles and it allows you to insert code, shortcodes or even custom templates – this way you aren’t limited to widgets and it won’t require a plugin. Do you think that would be helpful?
Thank you AJ! I was able to solve it via the wpex_hook_header_inner action now but thank you for providing the updated plugin. btw: I wasn’t able to find your plugins anywhere on your site anymore. I looked at the total subdomain, the docs and the main wpexlorer domain.
Regarding the aside function -> I would love to see that in the header 6 as well. Easiest and fastest way to add content to the header.
Again – thanks for the fast and helpful feedback, AJ. Much appreciated.
The plan is to have all those plugins on WordPress.org so I can provide automatic updates for them so I didn’t want them added to my site anymore.
The issue is that WordPress is having some problems with their plugin review team so I haven’t been able to submit new plugins for review. I’ve had a free Event plugin I made for almost 3 months now in the queue waiting for review
With so much money and man power, I can’t comprehend what’s going on over there at WP.org – it’s like they refuse to pay for plugin reviewers. Not sure…
- AJ
.
Hello! the theme rocks!!! I love the reviews page. Is there a submit box where people can leave their reviews? Thank you!
Hi,
This is AJ the theme author. I’m glad you like the theme!
If you want to give the theme a rating you need to go to your “Downloads” here on ThemeForest and you can rate any of your purchases.
Also if you have any questions, suggestions or issues please let me know!
- AJ
Oh wait…I just re-read what you said and I think you were asking if there was a way to have people go to your site and leave their own “testimonial”? If that’s the case, there isn’t any built-in way of doing this. There are plugins you can use so people can add new “posts” via the front-end but it could be a bit complex. I have had a few people ask me about this so I may be willing to make a free little add-on plugin for Total so people can submit their own testimonials.
- AJ
Hi, thanks for the reply. I am talking about the theme. There is reviews module. Is there a submit box where people can leave their reviews in the theme? These reviews: https://total.wpexplorer.com/base/testimonials/ Where do people leave their reviews?
Looks like you replied to me right when I replied back to you. Did you see my second reply?
- AJ
Yes. Thank you! Looking forward that cool add-on!
I’m going to see if I can knock it out real quick. My recommendation for the meantime is either to use a contact form like Contact Form 7 so that people can submit testimonials as an email and then someone from the company can sort through them and add them to the site.
- AJ
Alright. Thank you! We will do that
I’m actually getting this done pretty quick, got the basic form setup – https://cl.ly/a1b746 – now just have to make it work
I’ll let you know once it’s done.
The way it will work is it will create a “draft” review by default but you’ll be able to set it to “auto” publish if you wanted. I just wouldn’t recommend that. Always best to have someone look at them first to make sure there isn’t any sort of spam. The form will strip out ALL html so you shouldn’t have issues with spam but there is a “URL” field which you may want to check.
You’ll also be able to choose which fields show up and which do not when inserting the shortcode on the page.
I’m sure many other customers will like this little addon as well, so thank you for bringing it up
- AJ
Thank YOU, for doing such a great work!
Ok, I’m all done with the plugin
Here you go: https://wpexplorer-themes.com/total/docs/testimonials-form/
Here is a little video of the form in action: https://cl.ly/651678
If you have any issues or questions let me know.
- AJ
Wow. Awesome!!!! Thank you very much. This is going to be very useful for my site. You are the best. I just can’t thank you enough!!! :)))
No problem, I have had a few customers request it before so I felt like it was good time to do it
If you do have any issues with it, questions or suggestions just let me know.
- AJ
I will … THANK YOU!
Hi AJ,
Hope all is well! Question about your plans / thoughts moving forward with Gutenberg. Will you be creating a new theme dedicated to Gutenberg and it’s blocks?
I haven’t made the switch yet – giving it some time for the kinks to be worked out. But I need to start developing a plan / finding a solution as it seems blocks are the clear path for WordPress.
I know I’m asking a loaded question but what are your plans? Would be great to see a new theme dedicated to the Gutenberg flow of things. Maybe a spin off of Total but dedicated to Gutenberg – I have a feeling it would be great!
Enjoy the weekend!
Hi there,
Honestly, Gutenberg is horrible and I have no current plans to make anything that revolves around it. I hope to make a new theme that is focused primarily on Elementor so that Total can be my WPBakery theme and the new one my Elementor theme which are the 2 biggest methods people are building sites these days.
There is a reason why the “Classic Editor” plugin is used by over 4 million websites and is a top downloaded plugin. Gutenberg is not a good way for building sites and even worse for running a blog. The reason it was included in WordPress was because they wanted it for their WP.com customers – you may notice most self-hosted WP users don’t touch Gutenberg, it’s just complex, buggy and some aspects of how it works just don’t make sense. And it’s not even a “true” builder much less a “visual” builder since it’s done in the backend.
If you do like the “Gutenberg” way of creating pages then Elementor is a better choice and a lot of my Total customers are actually using Elementor with Total right now and love it. And WPBakery is making 308 sales a week, so it’s not going anywhere anytime soon.
In all honestly it really depends on your client and maybe it’s something to consider (using different methods for different clients). What I’ve found is most clients create a new site with a WP theme and then a year later pay someone else to remake their site with another theme. That’s why the WP market is so massive and still fruitful. I’m not sure if maybe you are just overthinking things, but definitely there is no need to make a “switch” to Gutenberg. If we are lucky enough, Gutenberg will either die out or get the updates it needs in which case, then it could be a worthwhile consideration. How it stands now, I wouldn’t ever consider using it and I don’t think I am alone on this.
- AJ
Hi AJ,
Thanks for the reply. I’ve only given Gutenberg a quick try nothing extensive. Not a fan yet but I don’t see it going away. I’m getting a few requests from folks that know about the new editor and want to use it. WordPress kinda put us in a hard spot.
I’ll look into Elementor – I was hoping Gutenberg would kind of morph into an Elementor / WPBakery (wishful thinking on my part).
If you do decide to give it a go – Let us know. Thanks again!
Yes, Gutenberg is definitely not going anywhere, but neither is WPBakery or Elementor. Right now the classic editor plugin has over 4 million users. So at the same time, it’s not like the classic way of doing things is going away.
Here is the thing though…WPBakery and Elementor were both created to replace the default Classic Editor in WordPress so what’s the difference if it replaces Gutenberg instead? I’m not sure why people are so concerned with Gutenberg in of itself when it can be easily replaced by Classic Editor, WPBakery, Elementor, Beaver Builder, Divi Builder….etc. Would love to know your thoughts on this if you have any.
- AJ
ps: My ultimate goal would be to have Total (primarily WPbakery based theme) a new Elementor based theme and a new Gutenberg based theme. Thus being able to sell to each market separately as everyone has their own preference in what they like to use to build sites. When I get around to making the Elementor and Gutenberg themes (right now focusing on some bigger Total updates as this will still be a big focus of mine) they will have a more “modern” approach to the design compared to Total since I’ll have full freedom starting from scratch but work similar in terms of development (hooks, filters, header/footer builders, dynamic templates..etc). Running 3 large themes shouldn’t be a problem once I hire a bit more support staff I’ll still be able to spend 3-4 hours on development/support for each theme everyday
Total isn’t going anywhere, but I do want to offer some other solutions for those looking or maybe for specific clients you may want to use a different theme. I know I have somewhat of a “cult” following because people like the way I code things and provide support so I want to be able to provide products specifically for those looking for an Elementor or Gutenberg exclusive solution.
Always welcome your thoughts!
Hello AJ,
In TinyMCE Editor, I only and heavily use the custom styles I’ve added thanks to your snippet “Add New Formats Under the Total Styles in the Text Editor”.
And never the other “standard” ones, so I have to scroll these very often before chosing mines in the “Total” group.
Is it possible that :
- at least : this Total group would be the first one at the top
- ideally : the standard styles are removed and the ones in Total group appear directly when opening the drop-down ? (without Total “sub-drop-down”)
Michel
Hi Michel,
The best thing would actually be to remove everything except the styles you are using. Which is pretty easy. If you want to share the code you are using (maybe via a Gist – https://gist.github.com/ ) I can tweak it and send it back to you so it’s only including your custom styles (let me know if you did want to keep any of the Total styles).
Additionally if you aren’t ever using the “Shortcodes” dropdown in the editor this can be disabled under Theme Panel > Editor Shortcodes
- AJ
Thank you AJ, here’s the code :
https://gist.github.com/Michel-Paris/da369809145b49965ae473d836f0aca8Michel
Did you want to keep the Total styles or only show yours?
Well, mine are the only ones that I use
Hello AJ,
After fighting a couple more hours with search on the net (including https://www.wpexplorer.com/wordpress-tinymce-tweaks), I’ve almost succeeded : http://a.pnet.fr/tinymce.png
(removing things in MceEditorFormats.php )
It would just help me if I could have my styles directly under the “Formats” dropdown instead of after opening the sub-dropdown “Total”.
Michel
Hi Michel,
Sorry for not getting to you sooner. I’ve been focusing on this next big Total update and since this was a customization it wasn’t on my priority and also I knew you would understand
I’m going to be replying to any and all pending questions today though.
So here is the code for you: https://gist.github.com/wpexplorer/da127923ebe0b317c70bd26e1178ad0a
Result: https://cl.ly/9d1894
- AJ
Hello AJ,
Thank you so much, and don’t worry at all of course, I definitely don’t expect quick answers when as you say there’s no blocking problem – which almost never happens with Total
It’s just that I try my best to avoid asking you.
Michel
No problem, let me know if you have any issues with the code or any other questions.
- AJ
Thank you again, AJ.
Michel
