Hi—I can’t seem to get decent page speeds with the theme. My site keeps performing poorly. Is this something you are aware of in settings that may help? https://gtmetrix.com/reports/thefictionstoryroom.com/OuHSUGGG
My site is https://thefictionstoryroom.com/filmmaking/
Hey JayCarver,
There are 339 requests occurring in the report you’ve shared. You’ll need to get that number down significantly. You can do so by potentially removing some ads/embeds you have. You can also set your images to “lazy load” for the image loading option when editing them in the page builder to further cut down on the requests.
Even with the theme assets unminified and not combined as in this example: https://gtmetrix.com/reports/themenectar.com/TMtNrqJw , Salient doesn’t load anywhere near that number of requests
Hey man thanks for the reply and feedback. I tried removing the ads like you mentioned and that seems to have done the trick. https://gtmetrix.com/reports/thefictionstoryroom.com/EMiVz8Bs
However, I still have the message telling me to leverage browser caching. Are you aware of how this is done?
I tried w3 cache plugin but it seemed to break my site in various places even with minimal things enabled.
Hey JayCarver,
When you enable W3, you can disable the minification in Performance > General setting > Minify box and leave just the caching options enabled. Alternatively, you can manually enable caching via the htaccess file: https://www.siteground.com/kb/leverage-browser-caching/
Thanks a lot! The manual way seems to be effective for my site where I have ads disabled but not on my other site that still runs ads.
Is there a way to address the “Defer parsing of JavaScript” through a plugin or some script?
Hey JayCarver,
Here’s an article that discusses the topic: https://gulshankumar.net/setup-lazy-loading-google-adsense-ad-units/
Hi ThemeNectar, I’ve just built my 5th website with Salient, and I must say it was a very smooth process. I really love this theme. Quick question: is there a feature to add the cookies notification that is now required by the GDPR/California privacy on the site? Did I miss that? or is it a separate plugin that I need to install? If so, what would you recommend? Thanks so much in advance
Hey themightythings, that’s awesome to hear
Cheers
Thanks for the reply and recommendations. I’ll definitely check those out.
You’re welcome themightythings
hello, I’m trying to add a copyright text (All Rights Reserved …) but it’s not showing up on the site … could you help me?
Hey thaisvilanova, in the Salient options panel > footer tab, please ensure that you have the options “Disable Footer Copyright Area” and “Disable Automatic Copyright” both turned off. If you already do, please share your URL in regards so that I can take a look.
Cheers
hi! Yes, I do. the site is only accessible to administrators. How can I do to give you access data?
Hey thaisvilanova, Please reach out via the contact form on my author page https://themeforest.net/user/themenectar
Thanks in advance
Hi! I’m trying the Horizontal List item with an icon. But happens that if I have just one line text, it looks great.. but if I have a 2 or 3 lines texts, the text starts below the icon, and not aligned with the first line. I mean, I was expecting the icon to be hanging alone. How could I achieve this effect?
Hey PriR,
add this into the custom css box located in the Salient options panel > general settings > css/script related tab:
.nectar-hor-list-item .item-icon {
position: absolute;
left: 20px;
top: 20px;
}
#ajax-content-wrap .nectar-hor-list-item > div:first-child {
padding-left: 50px;
}
Hi,
How can I report a browser-specific bug without renewing support? This is an issue present even in the theme demos, on Chrome for iOS.
Hey deezydev, you can do so via the direct contact form on my author page: https://themeforest.net/user/themenectar
Hi—for some reason the header in my pages and blog posts are broken where the footer is showing instead. This seems to only be an issue in Firefox https://thefictionstoryroom.com/screenwriting-tips-and-articles/ do you know what the issue is? Also this seems to only appear when I am logged in wp-admin
Hey JayCarver, I can’t seem to replicate this locally – but can you please try to add the following into your custom CSS box to see if that corrects what you’re seeing:
body #page-header-wrap {
z-index: 5;
}
That worked thanks!
Glad I could help, JayCarver
so will ask my quesiton here…
how do we increase the height of the woocommerce category image right now its 230px i think, how to increase this to 450px? thanks! https://www.screencast.com/t/EcKoauMNJIzHey xyper!
That’s strange. Perhaps Ticksy has having server issues at the time. Have you tried again recently?
In regard to altering the category header height, you can change that by setting a “page header height” in the page header settings metabox for the page which is assigned as the “shop” page in WooCommerce.
thanks!!
You’re welcome, xyper
Pre Sale: Question Do you have custom post type support, as in WP Bakery – Post Grid to fetch any kind of post types ?
Hey mayankbluup,
There is currently no option in Salient for that, but custom post type support for will added in for that element in the next release.
Cheers
When is your next release scheduled ?
Hey mayankbluup,
Most likely towards the end of July
Hi, is Gutenberg and TinyMCE plugins necessary? I was thinking to get rid of them from my wordpress.
Hey adiojack,
You do not need to have the Gutenberg plugin or any additional tinymce plugin installed.
Hi, picking up
“It is possible to place a search box as represented in this template: http://themenectar.com/docs/salient/
Thanks”
from above with a +1 and as a feature request: It would be cool to have that search box and the sticky table of contents (toc) from the doc pages as elements in Salient.
Example here: http://themenectar.com/docs/salient/page-builder-row/
One point I am missing in the awesome Salient theme as I`d like to present documentation on my page(s)!
Hey vizion-dan, thanks for the +1
The page http://themenectar.com/docs/salient/page-builder-row/ was built completely with existing Salient elements. The top TOC is using columns with fancy unordered lists and below that, each section is making use of the new tabs page builder element style called “vertical sticky scrolling”.
Cheers
Hi guys! I’m working on a 4 columns row, with a fancy box on each column. I have set the content alignment to TOP, but instead, the fancy boxes keep aligning on the middle as they have different content amount. I need them to align top anyway
How is it possible? Thanks in advance.
Hey PriR,
can you please share your page URL in regards so that I can take a look to assist?
Thanks
Hi,
We have a company that specializes in selling gemstones .. We want a website that displays pictures similar to Instagram and visitors can click on the like button that appears on the image and they can also leave a comment on it .. Can we do this via your theme?
Best Regards
Hey mancdim,
Unfortunately there’s no functionality built in to Salient which would allow that
But I found the same idea with your theme in the news area .. You can see the following image link:
https://ibb.co/KyfqMxR :The problem is only that it is news ( blogs) .. We do not want text details we want only (image + title + like + comment) and when the visitor clicking on the image or title is moved inside and finds the image in the content not as a background for the article also other pictures of the same product can be displayed in motion like products and he can drop comment or like ..
Hey mancdim, In the Salient options panel > blog > post meta tab, you can remove the author/date from displaying. To remove the excerpt from showing, you would need to add in the following CSS:
.masonry.classic_enhanced .post .excerpt {
display: none;
}
In regard to the single post template – There’s also a theme option to toggle the featured image displaying inside the blog single post header. It’s in the Salient options panel > blog tab and its called “Single Post He
Hi,
Thank you, but can I move the news headline over the image with the Like and Comment button, or in the worst case, move them directly to the bottom of the image and remove the blank space around the header as it is in the attached picture ??
https://ibb.co/TgsSnfz
- There is another problem that I noticed related to RTL .. We notice in the direction of the news when it is displayed as a category , as well as with Portfolio it starts to appear from left to right in the Arabic section of the website as you notice in the following pictures:
https://ibb.co/9gK96f7
https://ibb.co/0jBYph2
Best Regards
Hey mancdim,
1. With the classic enhanced masonry style, you can set the “masonry item sizing” to “regular alt” when editing your posts: https://ibb.co/L0j4LYp This will make the post meta overlay on top of the featured image by default like so: https://ibb.co/8xgySck2. That will require a change to the javascript – i’ve noted it for the upcoming release.
Cheers
thanxxx alot
When is the next update? And Can I get a beta version at the earliest opportunity?
Regards
Hey mancdim, it’ll most likely be next month. If you’d like early access, shoot me an email via the contact form on my author page https://themeforest.net/user/themenectar
Thanks,
Thank you. I sent you an email for that ..
Regarding the blogs, what code can I add to remove the space in the attached image and increase the height of the blog pictures or display them in square shape?
Best Regards
Can you please share your actual URL in regards so that I can take a look why that featured image is not extending to the bottom?
Thanks in advance
The masonry sizing does not appear to be set to “regular alt” as I highlighted here: https://ibb.co/L0j4LYp can you confirm when editing the post, that you’ve set that option?
I understood that before as you explained earlier, but we want to diversify the views, so we also have pictures that are shown as only regular : )
Hey mancdim, I understand -
You can use the following CSS to reduce the space:
.masonry.classic_enhanced .masonry-blog-item .article-content-wrap {
padding: 5% 7%;
}
In order to alter the image sizing, you’ll need to edit the file salient/includes/partials/blog/styles/masonry-classic-enhanced/post-image.php (this can be copied into a child theme as well).
thanx alot ,
for image sizing from post-image.php Where can I change that? Because I changed it from the next place and I didn’t see any results :// dimensions. $width = '600'; $height = '403';
thanks alot : )
Fro demo verstion update : I don’t know if the request arrived to you or not because I have not received any response regarding it ?!
Also I have a problem with the leaflet map that you can view through the following link:
https://ibb.co/rpmm62g
You will notice that there are longitudinal and cross gray intersections that block the view from the map. Also, I was unable to display the moving locater as in the following link:
https://liquorontherun.co.za/contact/
Best Regads
Hey mancdim,
1. I just sent over a copy to your email
2. I can’t see that error occurring on your URL: https://ibb.co/9V4NrNg
What browser and browser version are you using?
Thanx alot _
the problem was solved after the update ..
Now I have a problem with portfolio I will be grateful if you help me to solve it
I created the website as a One page and I used the portfolio on this page. The first problem is that I cannot access to portfolio categories until I view all the projects as ( domain.com /portfolio ) and added this link to to ” Read More” button ! ..
The second problem when I acess to the project page I cannot return to the main page via main menu because the main menu is related to the content of the one page .. How can I create another main menu that contains only a back button to return to the main page and be linked with all individual projects?
Greetings
Hey mancdim,
1. I’m not quite sure I understand what you’re asking in regards to accessing the portfolio categories. Can you share the portfolio URL and explain in further detail what you’re trying to do?
2. You would need to either use CSS to hide/show the “back” link conditionally, or you could simply use a plugin like: https://wordpress.org/plugins/conditional-menus/
Cheers
Thanks alot bro
Regarding the number 1 I have found its solution as I was looking for how to add portfolio categories to the main list ..
Now I still have a problem with displaying portfolio categories and you can see this link for clarification :https://prnt.sc/to4lbr
Hey mancdim,
Specific projects attributes can be accessed by URL format domain.com/project-attributes/your-attribute. e.g. http://themenectar.com/demo/salient/project-attributes/photography/ However, there’s no built in functionality to query by specific groups of attributes, based on a given project category.
You would need to manually create a page where you made links to each of the project attribute archive templates as needed
Ok .. thank you : )
You’re welcome mancdim
Hey selassie75,
add this into the custom css box located in the Salient options panel > general settings > css/script related tab:
body[data-footer-reveal][data-footer-reveal-shadow] #footer-outer .row {
display: flex;
align-items: center;
justify-content: center;
}
body[data-footer-reveal][data-footer-reveal-shadow] #footer-outer .row > div:last-child {
width: auto;
height: auto;
}
#footer-outer .widget {
margin-bottom: 0;
}
Hi themeNectar, thank you for your answer, unfortunately this css also center the copyright and social media icons
any way to avoid this ?
Hey selassie75,
change the snippet to the following:
body[data-footer-reveal][data-footer-reveal-shadow] #footer-outer .row {
display: flex;
align-items: center;
justify-content: center;
}
body[data-footer-reveal][data-footer-reveal-shadow] #footer-outer #footer-widgets .row > div:last-child {
width: auto;
height: auto;
}
#footer-outer .widget {
margin-bottom: 0;
}
many thanks, worked like a charm
You’re welcome, selassie75
It is possible to place a search box as represented in this template: http://themenectar.com/docs/salient/
Thanks.
Hey TAKETHEWIND,
That is a custom input created for the documentation. There is no built-in page builder element for that currently.
Thanks
You’re welcome, TAKETHEWIND
Hello, how to solve the problem that Salient Option Panel is appeared on the left side but all the pages are empty on the right side of mac system. (Windows system is fine)
Hey juneshe324, What version of the theme are you using? Kindly reach out via the contact form on my author page with temporary access to the setup so that I can take a look in regards: https://themeforest.net/user/themenectar
Hi when We updated woocomerce and salient theme … there is notice There are some outdated WooCommerce template files in your salient theme directory that are likely lingering around from a previous version of the theme. Salient no longer includes any files in the salient/woocommerce/cart directory. Please ensure none of the following files are present in your theme directory (wp-content/themes/salient).
salient/woocommerce/cart/cart.php salient/woocommerce/cart/cart-shipping.php salient/woocommerce/cart/cart-totals.php salient/woocommerce/cart/shipping-calculator.php
would you please check out and let us know how to fix this issue? We have customized file in child theme so .. I don’t think we have big issue yet … but still … please check out and … let us know ..
Hey Counterintuity,
As the notice mentions, you’ll need to remove the “wp-content/themes/salient/woocommerce/cart” directory from your setup. You can do so by renaming it or deleting it all together via FTP. Salient previously provided overrides for the cart directory, but removed those a couple of years ago. If that directory still exists in your setup, conflicts can occur with the latest WooCommerce.
Cheers
I’m using the ‘sticky’ sidebar on a page, and when I scroll down the styling of the widgets seems to jump. I had this problem once before using the same thing on a WooCommerce product and you solved it with some CSS, but now I’m getting the same on a regular page (see the green gravity form sidebar halfway down the page). Any CSS to fix that?
https://wordpress-103975-1331596.cloudwaysapps.com/Hey SeanAUS120,
The coloring of that column would need to be added onto the parent element in order to work in combination with the sticky functionality as you have it setup. Add this into the custom css box located in the Salient options panel > general settings > css/script related tab:
.capaform {
background-color: #e0ede8;
padding: 0!important;
}
.capaform .vc_column-inner {
padding: 0 5%!important;
}
Awesome! That works, thank you.
Is there any reason why the sticky sidebar doesn’t go all the way down to the bottom of the column next to it? They are setup as 2 columns … it stops (and jumps back to the top) about halfway down. Shouldn’t it go to the end of the row?
Hey Sean, I’m not seeing that behavior on my end. What browser and version are you using?
All good! Fixed it now. Was a bug I created myself. Thanks!
Glad to hear you sorted it, Sean
I’m trying to apply a max width to a custom heading using the extra class name. But it is aligning the heading left instead of center.
Hey MarcGarner,
In your class rule, add in margin: 0 auto like so:
.vc_custom_heading {
max-width: 400px;
margin: 0 auto;
}
Hi there, I hope you are well. I was wondering, if it is possible to set the font weight to 800 when using the Custom Heading option please? If so, how? Thank you.
Hey redkmarketing,
add this into the custom css box located in the Salient options panel > general settings > css/script related tab:
.vc_custom_heading {
font-weight: 800!important;
}
Hope you’re doing well also
Hi there, I am thanks. That didnt seem to work, anything else I can do, please?
Hey redkmarketing,
Is it possible that the font-weight of 800 doesn’t exist for the font you’re using? Please share the relevant URL where that custom heading is located so that I can take a closer look.
Thanks in advance
I defo have it, as I was already using it prior to using the custom headers. I made a ticket for it the ticket number is: #2451190. Thank you.
Thanks redkmarketing, I took a look at that ticket earlier today.
Cheers
Thank you so much, your support is invaluable.
Glad I could help, redkmarketing
Hi, ThemeNectar.
First of all, thank you for Salient, it’s a great pleasure to work with it!
My question is about settings of “Recent Posts” module, “List With Featured First Raw” style in your demo “Magazine Blog Landing”.
Is it possible to change the way of loading images’ previews (span class “img-thumbnail loaded”, background-image: url(...-500×500.jpg)
to the loading of images in their original dimensions?
I mean I just need no cropping of my pics.
Thanks.
Hey Okidokitoki,
That style is setting the image as a background image, so the only way to adjust the aspect ratio would be through using CSS like so:
.blog-recent[data-style="list_featured_first_row"] .featured .img-thumbnail {
padding-bottom: 70%;
background-position: center;
}
If you instead need to alter the markup to use a regular img tag to preserve varying aspect ratio’s, you would need to modify the file salient-core/includes/vc_templates/recent_posts.php If you’d like to keep that mod in a child theme, check out the following: http://themenectar.com/docs/salient/overriding-salient-wpbakery-element-template-files-through-a-child-theme/
Cheers
Thank you, but “That style is setting the image as a background image, so the only way to adjust the aspect ratio would be through using CSS like so” is not suitable for my project.
“If you instead need to alter the markup to use a regular img tag to preserve varying aspect ratio’s” – what should I rewrite?
$style === 'list_featured_first_row'You would then need to remove the background markup and query for a regular image with the WP function “get_the_post_thumbnail”
Hey.
I just need some code. Please, try your best and drop these lines to me.
BTW, I got the mistake: when I choose “Image Loading: Default”, I see no problem with the image display, but when I choose “Image Loading: Lazy Load”, the image starts cropping. I need Lazy Load, so, I suppose, that you should correct that mistake by yourself, do not shift it to the buyer.
Thank you. Waiting.
Hey Okidokitoki, after your recent clarification of the sizing being affected by the use of the lazy loading option, I was able to replicate it locally. However, the fact that the non lazy loading sizing is not using the square format is actually the issue. Historically, that particular recent post styling has always delivered a square version of the featured image, and this issue most likely recently came about with the addition of the optional lazy load logic in v11 – this will be corrected in the next release.
I understand in your case you would prefer the non cropped image, and that would require a modification to work with the lazy loading functionality. In the recent-posts file, this line: https://pastebin.com/cFctcwBy would need to be changed to the following: https://pastebin.com/F2gMghKE
Thank you.
I’ve used the code that you’ve written (311 line in file “recent_posts.php” at …/salient-child/vc_templates/ folder), but nothing happened.
Are you using v12+ of Salient? Previous versions won’t have the ability to override vc_templates from a child theme.
If you are, please open a ticket on the support forum with a temporary admin login so that we can take a closer look into the setup: https://themenectar.ticksy.com/
Thanks in advance
Of course, I use the latest version.
“If you are, please open a ticket on the support forum with a temporary admin login so that we can take a closer look into the setup: https://themenectar.ticksy.com" Done.
ThemeNectar, thank you very much.
You’re welcome, Okidokitoki
