There can be a variety of reasons for this – you might be using third party plugins which slow down your site, your server can be slow in terms of response and you need to increase its memory / processing power resources and so on…

We, on our hosting service use caching plugin to additionally speed up the server response, but even without it, you server should respond in a couple of seconds or less when not under heavy traffic.

You can send us the link to your site to check the response time and loading speeds to try to pinpoint the bottleneck.

As far as the caching plugins are concerned, we are using https://wordpress.org/plugins/sg-cachepress/ but https://wordpress.org/plugins/w3-total-cache/ or similar should make a difference as well.

The blog archives feature h2 in blog titles as it is considered a bad SEO practice to multiple h1 tags on the page.

Anyhow, if you wish to change the tag, you can edit views/post/list/standard.php in your theme and change the following line (line 62)

'html_tag' => 'h2',

to

'html_tag' => 'h1',

As you are already using the caching plugin, and judging by the results returned by the Google Page speed, there is not much you can do about the performance given the amount of content you have on your site:

The main issues seem to be: Largest Contentful Paint (LCP), First Contentful Paint (FCP) and Time to Interactive

These are all influenced by the actual site content and images used specifically the slider at the top of the homepage.

You can possibly defer the loading of CSS using the caching plugin, but in that case you would have the glitch of serving unformatted content first and than after, the entire css gets loaded everything would come into its place. This would give bad visual experience to the visitors.

Here is how the Setting generally work

The settings in the Appearance > Customize panel are global, meaning that they influence every page on the site by default. On the other hand, you have an option to override these settings on a per page basis. If you take a look at the bottom of the page edit form, you will notice the Override Global Setting part in Settings Section – here you can override global settings for every page.

You probably have a logo related override (and some other overrides, including the Hide default headline) set on the home page and it caused the problem. Try removing logo related overrides on pages with issues.

Related to the color scheme – you can change it on the following panel: Appearance > Customize > General Settings.

If the changes do not apply to the home page, the issue is probably the same as above.

Thanks, I was able to get the logo working. Decided not to use “Michelle” variation because colors can’t be changed on the fly since it uses a lot of background images with gradients. I would need to edit a lot of images with photoshop to change the color scheme

Please deactivate all the plugins except the ones required by the theme and check if the issue persists.

If not, activate the plugins one by one to pinpoint which one is causing the issue.

Once the plugin is activated, there are a few widgets that are created (Appearance > Widgets). In one of them there were few widgets which got displayed once the Widget Area got active (plugin is activated)
