Hi, Just checking, should we be able to see the WPBakery AI buttons? In particular, I want the SEO features.
I do have a license for wpbakery, and credits available. I just do not see it within the Salient Theme editor. Do I need to enable another setting?

1. You can enable the WPBakery AI functionality in the Salient options panel > General Settings > Functionality tab towards the bottom.
2. The WPBakery SEO functionality should be viable regardless of that option being enabled, unless you have it turned off in the WPBakery plugin settings.

Hi, I’ve noticed that gallery thumbnail images have a skip-lazy class applied, even when the image loading option is set to lazy. Is that intentional?
Also, I’ve noticed that the full size images seem to be downloaded on page load, which can be a lot of data. Is it not possible for them to be loaded only if the user clicks on a thumbnail?
Actually it seems it isn’t the skip-lazy class that prevents lazy loading, but choosing a masonry/photography layout. So I’ve switched to a square grid instead.

skip-lazy is added to prevent third-party lazy loading to avoid double lazy loading. If you’re referring to the “Image Gallery” element, both the photography & square based masonry grid sizing options should allow for lazy loading, when activated. Actually, I don’t know why, but it’s working now (ie the full size images are not loading on page load). So all good. Could you add something to the docs about the “Number of Images to Skip Lazy Loading” setting? I’m not clear what it does. Thanks

It allows you to define the number of images to load normally instead of lazy loading them. If your gallery is visible at the top of the page, you should select the number of images that are visible immediately before scrolling, in order to optimize loading.

Hey beachmat, that element is skipped from lazy loading to prevent conflicts with the JS plugin. However, I’ve noted to look into integrating it.

Hey beachmat, the “Recent Projects” element is a legacy element and doesn’t connect to the global media lazy load option. I would recommend using the newer Post Loop Builder instead, which does support lazy loading. Is there any reason you’re opting to stick with the Recent Projects?
Not really – maybe I assumed it was only for blog posts. I’ll take a look.
One thing I’m noticing with the post loop builder is that the grid image size is defaulting to medium (which is too small), even though it says large is the default.

The image size from that dropdown gets directly passed as the WP image size to pull from. I can’t seem to replicate large returning the medium size locally, but would be happy to take a closer look at your site if you would like to open a ticket on the support forum.

Thank you for your requests. Here are a few quick notes:
Performance is always a priority in every major release, and optimizations are consistently made with that in mind.
The only known validation errors (not notices) should be related to the use of lazy loading, as the src attributes will be missing until the images are scrolled into view. If you’re encountering any other errors, please open a ticket on the support forum.
Additionally, no Home Slider CSS is loaded unless you are using that optional plugin.

What good does the new custom branding plugin do if it doesn’t even change the child theme? It’s pointless if it only changes the parent theme name. Does it even work to update now?

The Custom Branding plugin is just one of the many features added in v17. When specifying a custom name/icon through the Custom Branding plugin, it will still override the same elements in the admin UI when using a child theme as it does with the parent theme. If you’re referring to the actual child theme name/screenshot shown in the Appearance > Themes tab, that has always been controlled by what you specify in your own child theme and could be set to whatever you desired even before the release of the Custom Branding plugin.

The landing page uses a few advanced approaches to achieve the animation flow, and some of the sections are not included in the Template Library intentionally to keep our own branding unique. I have a new client that needs to upgrade from v7, so I’m guessing they’ve been using this theme for about 8-10 years, but never updated it. It appears they’ll have to buy another license to update to 17 since no one knows who purchased it originally, but are there any known issues or suggested steps with upgrading 10 versions of the theme?

The main thing to consider would be if your client is using a child theme that contains customizations. If so, those will likely all need to be reworked after doing the update.
Salient also split various functionality into different plugins in v10, so once the update is done, be aware that there will be new plugins you’ll need to install as well. This article covers that change. Other than that, I would recommend also doing the update in a staging environment to ensure it goes smoothly first.

Hey gemmenco, we’ve tested the theme with WordFence using both their premium signatures and the public database, and we haven’t detected any security threats related to version 17. The last reported issues were in April, and they were corrected immediately prior to public disclosure. We have not been contacted by anyone from their team regarding a new security disclosure.

That warning is related to the “Salient Core” plugin, not the theme. The current version of the Salient Core is v3.0.1. The last venerability reported and patched for that plugin occurred in v2.0.7 back in April. Are you sure that you’ve updated the Salient plugins to the latest releases?

I understand and indeed I have to do updates but it’s a shame that these non-updated Salient extensions are not displayed like the other extensions (non-Salient) that are not up to date, so you have to locate “update” and perform the update from the Salient list.

I can’t say there is a single best, as it will come down to your needs. However, we have integration with Contact Form 7, and WPForms. A lot of users also like Gravity Forms.

The full names of the new transitions powered by the view transition API are “Vertical Reveal” and “Horizontal Gradient Wipe”. We consolidated the name for the feature grid in order to fit in the same space, but have noted to update that wording to prevent confusion

While Salient allows customization of the header menu, there is no style that matches the one on that website. Achieving that look would require custom modifications.

I am using the salient theme, but suddenly the global section is not exposed. It was exposed well by inserting it above the header and above the footer, but now it does not appear. If you add it to the page in element format, it will be exposed, but if you set it in [Global Section Display] on the global section edit page, it will not be exposed. From memory, it seems to have stopped appearing since last Friday (not sure). Is there a solution?

The issue has been resolved. I created a new global section and placed it back in the header and it worked fine. Perhaps the existing global section caused some kind of conflict. Thank you for reply

At the moment, you can only select specific categories to display. Unfortunately, there isn’t an option to display only the most recent categories.
