Found out that right before </head> there is a style:
- { text-shadow: transparent 0px 0px 0px, rgba(0,0,0,0.48) 0px 0px 0px !important; }
that kills all of my text-shadows across the site. Searched everywhere, but could not find where to delete it. Why does Betheme add this style and how can I remove it?

yes, you can use same license for unlimited number of sub-domains but the whole trick is that you have to register license for main domain first and only then, you can register same license/key for its sub-domains.
