Hi. Great theme, easy to use and customise. 2 questions about using the Portfolios.
1. In your sidebar portfolio pages you have a heart, facebook, twitter and pinterest sharing icons, at the top above the text. In my version I only have the heart. How do I add others?
2. How do I get the main portfolio page, with all the individual galleries/portfolios on in a grid, as a main menu item on my Nav bar menu?

Hey Emma!
1. You can activate those in your “Portfolio Options” tab inside of the Theme Options Panel. If you don’t have options to then it’s time to update to the latest version 
2. You just need to create a page, assign the portfolio layout in the “Page Attributes” box and finally add that link into your menu in Appearance > Menus.

Thank you. Really dumb question but how do I update the theme? In Wordpress > Dashboard > updates it shows 2 updates waiting, but both for plugins. It says my themes are all up to date. Ive got Salient 1.3 and WP 3.5.1.
Emma, WordPress doesn’t know anything about what’s the latest version of Salient (it’s 1.5.1) so you won’t get notified there. Emails are sent out to buyers of Salient when updates are released and the changelogs are posted here
What you need to do to update is download a fresh copy from ThemeForest, delete your current version on the server and upload the new. You won’t lose your data – that’s stored in the database not the theme itself.

I hadn’t ticked the ‘please notify me of updates’ button. I’ve done that now, AND signed up for your newsletter, AND got the chance to rate you 5*. New version downloaded. Fingers crossed I managed to update without losing everything.

Yeah, if you deactivate the theme and upload the new via the admin panel rather than using FTP where you wouldn’t ever have to deactivate the theme, you’ll have to reassign the menu. But rest assured your content and settings will still all be there! Also, If you’re upgrading from a really old version it would be a good idea to go through the options panel again as many new options await!

Props on a job well done! Couple questions:
1. Is it possible to embed the contact map + form on the homepage, or have it display like the call-to-action section across all site pages?
2. On the homepage, I’d like to add content sections similar to how the call-to-action or footer div displays but without having it on all subpages (i.e. full browser width with its own background). Is there a way to achieve this using the shortcode system or text editor for the page, maybe some kind of CSS edit?

1. If you wanted it on all pages, you’d have to paste the majority of the page script for page-contact.php into your footer.php file wherever.

Hey bntdddwebr01! Technically all of the pieces are there, but you’d need to be comfortable enough with editing the theme files to paste all of those sections into one page layout.

I installed the latest version of your theme yesterday. All works great, apart from the fact the site was no longer responsive on ipad / iphone?
I’ve tried going back to the version I used before and the responsiveness works again.
Any ideas why new version didn’t work?
I don’t mind sticking with the older version, other than the ‘sort’ button at the top of the portfolio isn’t appearing.

When upgrading to newer versions, the theme option for “Enable Responsive Design” will be turned off (it’s in the general settings tab” Just flick that on and you’ll be good to go

Hey charliman, thanks for purchasing! You’ll actually need to make a mod to the javascript – as it is what is responsible for calculating the position.
Open up the init.js file located in the JS folder and head to the/***************** Parallax Slider ******************/section. Assuming you’re on the latest version, go to lines 244 & 306 to find this line:
$('body:not(.mobile) .orbit-wrapper #featured .slide article').css({'top': ((- $scrollTop / 5)+logoHeight+headerPadding2+headerResizeOffExtra+extraHeight-extraDef) + 'px' });
Inside of that long line of variables getting added/subtracted together
logoHeight+headerPadding2+headerResizeOffExtra+extraHeight-extraDefAdd a +60 so it looks like this:
logoHeight+headerPadding2+headerResizeOffExtra+extraHeight-extraDef+60
If 60 doesn’t push it down enough, just play with the number until you get it perfect

Hey guys! Great theme. Is there any way to link YouTube or Vimeo videos to a portfolio item – so they show up in the main image area. I don’t want to upload mp4 or ogg videos – I just want to embed YouTube and Vimeo to the main bit (not in the right column). Thanks!

You can alter the link of your logo by opening up the header.php file in the root of Salient and locating this segment:

No problem. While you’re there, I’ve added a custom marker to my contact page, but it’s not appearing. It doesn’t appear even when I don’t select a custom marker. Any idea what I could try?

Hey soyjosu! The instructions in the video actually only apply when using WordPress 3.6. WordPress 3.5 still has the old way of uploading a gallery which is using multiple featured images. You should see 6 boxes for them on the right hand side

2. You can place icons through the shortcode generator located as the yellow “N” on your editor.

Hey expressivemedia! You need to enter in a custom slug in your portfolio settings (anything other than portfolio) in order to use pagination with a custom permalink structure. After doing so, re save your permalinks and the 404 should go away
Hi there, does the portfolio page have pagination? I have been adding items and it just seems to keep going and going and going? I want to have selectable pages not and entire page with hundreds of portfolio items.
