Hi im new to all this web designing stuff and i’m making my first ever website with little to almost no experience other than watching tutorials. I downloaded and installed this theme because it is the sickest one i have seen in all my researching on themes, i’m deadly serious this theme is just too cool. Anyway, I had to install it manually due to my web host being 1and1 and i have to use fireFTP to upload everything rather than going directly through WordPress. I just need your help on the full name of the Woo commerce plugin this theme has recommended. I searched for Woo commerce and there are so many to chooses from. what was the one you where recommending in the them?

Can’t really tell what’s possible here but can I create a slider for each post? I’m thinking of custom post types like destinations and cruises. A good example may be the fourseasons.com website, where they have sliders for the hotel destinations. In fact, perhaps a better question would be which of the slider/parallax features could I use for these custom post templates? This may be a little bit out of scope of this format but any ideas would be helpful.
A smaller detail – is there a ‘recent blog posts’ page element that would work for the front page, like the ‘recent work’ element?

1. You can theoretically place a nectar slider on any page, so if you’re going to create custom post types it should work all throughout where ever you need.
2. There’s no blog carousel yet, but I intend to add one!

1) is it possible to have the alternative portfolio link ONLY to lightbox – i.e just default to ‘view larger’. By default it links to more details and I don’t see any option to change this.
2) Secondly, is it possible in future updates to have an option of a details page where the image full width, and NOT with a sidebar. I don’t mean extended, I simply mean the natural width of the content.
Great theme.
Edit: There is a hack to do it by selecting ‘full width’ in portfolio options and then NOT hiding featured image, but this loses the social media buttons.

1. There is no option at this time, but I will add an option for this down the road 
2. That’s not a hack, that’s exactly what the full width layout option was designed to do – remove the sidebar so all your content can extend the entire width of the site’s container. You can generate the social media buttons anywhere you like on the page with the shortcode generator just as I’ve done at the bottom of this page as an example: http://themenectar.com/demo/salient/portfolio/994/

I tried using only the Nectarslider but I get a black slider up top with my NectarSlider below. Please what do I do? I really want the Nectarslider on my homepage.
Hey segunfak, just unassign the home template from your page attributes box if you want to use the nectar slider on your home page in favor of the home slider. The home template is the only thing adding the home slider to the page

Also, I don’t know which home template you were using because you didn’t specify, but another way around it if you want to keep the home template activated for other reasons would be to use this snippet in your custom css box in the theme options panel:
#featured { display: none!important; }

Please one more thing: where do I go to set the attributes for the Nectar slider. I mean like speed, autorotate, etc. Are all these details in the PDF that came with the theme?

Hey nathanlunsford, there is no page template – you simply assign your blog page in the Settings > Reading tab of your admin panel as WordPress intended. You can then choose your desired layout in the blog options tab inside of the theme options panel.

It’s quite small really, but in the Salient general settings/google analytics area you’ve misspelled ‘won’t’ so that it reads “ID it won’nt work.”
Also, what is the best way to add a megamenu to the blog roll page? I’d like to highlight certain posts so that visitors who visit …nectar.com/blog will see a large, slider above with large images highlighting certain posts.

What I mean is; how would I add a megamenu underneath the header of the page all of the blog post preview are in? In the ‘Reading’ section of the settings, blogs is selected as the posts page. i can add a megamenu to any page except the blog one.
the posts page won’t display it.
You should be able to add the class megamenu to any page, including your blog page. As long as the page exists in your menu, you can add a megamenu to it.. Do maybe want to open a ticket regarding this with your site info?

All you have to do is unassign the home template you’re using from the home page (if you’re trying to use the nectar slider on the home page) and generate a nectar slider shortcode where you like on your page. The Blank Shortcode Popup issue. I have attempted the permission and file deletion, as well as having no plugins installed but it is still blank. But as I am working through this issue, I am wondering if you can provide a list of all the site shortcodes?

Google fonts are only used if you active them in the typography options panel all you have to do is click the off button and they won’t get loaded. What’s not working well about them for you in regards to them?

How do I remove the header from the theme?

Add this to your custom css box:
#header-space { height: 0px!important; }
#header-outer { display: none!important; }
That will hide the header but if you’re using a full width slider on top you will probably need additional css mods to get it flush against the top since the javascript is expecting a header.

Not without custom development unfortunately, because Salient is not really a magazine oriented theme.

I dont like how this theme manage the custom css from admin section, we have almost 1.500 lines of custom code for our CSS and is ALL displayed in the page code when you see the page source code, is there any other options for this? for make this private maybe or hided from all the people but still using the custom box in admin section?
Do you have any idea or future update to fix this?

The custom css box is not meant for 1,500 lines of css code.. It’s meant for a few quick snippets if you don’t need a full stylesheet. If you’re doing major css edits use a child theme as WordPress intended. Why would you ever want that much css in a textarea box with no syntax highlighting or any power you would get from an actual code editor?

Yes, as long as you follow the same structure as the parent theme. Also, for js I believe you must enqueue your child script and dequeue the parent one if you’re going to say, make mods to the init.js this way there won’t be two copies on the site. You would handle this all in the child theme functions.php file

In response to your follow up comment while I was writing back to your previous one, using a child theme should not effect the responsive styles at all – I’ve verified myself again just now & hundreds of buyers are using child themes to handle custom mods. Anchor links to id’s in the same page work the same way in Salient as they would in any theme or site for that matter – the procedure is the same. You crate a link that uses a hash followed by the id of an element in your page. For example:<a href="#themenectar">A link</a>would link to the section in the page where this was placed:
<div id="themenectar"> blah blah blah </div>

Hey this is awesome! On question for the portfolio page. Is it possible to have the slider on top and below a text on the lefthand side and on the right hand the share buttons, and icon list with branding, html, photoshop etc. in your examples there’s no such layout, so that it seems to me when you are using fullwidth slider you can’t use the list… is this right?
Hey benzrecordings! You can actually replicate that layout just using the column shortcodes and social media shortcode. This way you can have a sidebar layout even with the full width slider on top. I will however make it even easier to get this layout in the next update and just allow the sidebar layout to use the slider full width on top

Wow that’s cool! One last question. Do You plan to add a sort function for the blog as well? So that a user can sort after the content (quote, status, blogpost etc….) I plan to implement my instagram stream and it would be nice when a user can only take a look at the images for example….

And the other blog is for my authors, who have each page for they. And I want this blogs Masonry style.

currently that’s not possible as you can only assign the overall blog style in the admin panel which will apply for all your blog pages. It would require a bit of custom modding to the files to work the way you want.
