Is it possible to use the “portfolio recent projects” visual with regular pages? Like you did on the first page of the demo where it says “Recent Work We’ve Completed For Our Amazing Clients”, but then put some thumbnail and a link to a page instead of to a portfolio work.
Hey blenderano, you can use that shortcode on any regular page, but you can’t alter how the items link – they will always link to portfolio items.

I was just reviewing the latest Salient files and just noticed there are font files there for icomoon. Icomoon adds icons like the much missing WordPress icon, etc.
Is this available to start using in the theme/is there samples of the proper way to utilize this font on our pages?
Hey Syrehn! The icomoon files you see only contain my series of custom made icons for the theme such as the slider arrows, portfolio buttons, cart icon etc.. There has not been a new set added in yet, no.

One more question: I have added a lot of custom code to my functions.php file. Therefore I know that when a new version of salient is available and I need to upgrade, i might lose these changes. Can you please give your customers a little tutorial on how to preserve changes via child themes? I would really appreciate this and it will relieve some anxiety.

Hi there. I want to use the “Home recent posts” template for posts from category “Blog”. I don’t know how I can do this.
The only way I find is put the Default Template e use the shortcode: [recent_posts title_labels=”true” category=”blog”]
But is not cool like Home recent posts template.

the recent posts carousel will only display a horizontal carousel of items, having rows would require modification to the home-template-x.php file. You would have to copy code from the page-portfolio.php into it for now to place these items. Please bare in mind that I am going to be adding new ways to query portfolio & blog items in upcoming updates to make tasks like this possible.
Hi Nectar, just wanna say this theme is really awesome, the updates and support is getting better and better always. What’s awesome is, you can do fullwidth section in “BLOG”, yes a parallax blog since your fullwidth is s shortcode, pure awesomeness.
Though I do have some points and suggestions: 1) The “fullwidth masonry” option automatically activates the sidebar in the single blogpost, thus in order to have fullwidth in a post, we cannot select the masonry option, which is a pity. Hopefuly the option to activate sidebar within a single post can be included in the nx update. Plus a category filter would be superb.
2) Dropcaps pleasee Multiple header layout will be sweet too.
3) You already have animated image, why not animated text too?
4) Hmm, this is more difficult, but as many have mentioned, the ability to create a seperate portfolio category. Yes there is a workaround, but most of the themes out there do not have this as default yet too, if you can make it a feature in the nx update, then yours will be the first, and totally stand out among similar theme.

1) My single portfolio pages suddenly won’t show. Instead the page shows the 404 not found page. I really need your help solving this problem. This is the link to my portfolio page if needed. 1. Random 404 errors most always point to the need to refresh your permalinks – just go to Settings > Permalinks and click “Save Changes”.
2. You can, you just need to make rules that are more specific than the ones already in place otherwise they won’t overwrite correctly. If you need help with this just open a ticket if you haven’t already – include your URL and I’ll take a peek

Hey! Have they always not worked or is it a new issue that popped up? A blank shortcode window always points to one of the following:
- The need to CHMOD the shortcode-generator file and its parent folders to 755
- A plugin conflict breaking the admin script (rare)
- Some other server configuration issue

Essentially just start at the generator file and CHMOD it and all directories up the line.
I’ve done it now, at first I didn’t know what you was talking about but then I looked it up and did as I was told and have changed them and all the files and folders that are contained in them and still nothing. I’ve also mad inactive all of the plugins other than woo commerce and contact 7 and still nothing comes up. What else should I try. I really really don’t want to use another theme.
The next step would be to allow me access to your server so I can verify everything is set correctly and if it is, then contacting your hosting provider to see what the internal server being thrown is would follow.

Right now you can only have a full width portfolio carousel and full width single portfolio item – the actual portfolio page that displays the grid of items can not be full width yet. I have plans to add that in a future update though

This evening, I upgraded to 2.1 and the Button color on the “Call to Action” won’t respond via the User Interface. It isn’t displaying my accent color, or any of the colors for that matter.
Hey superluxefibers, it just sounds like you need to clear your cache mate – there’s nothing else that could stop it from applying unless you have custom css already targeting it.
The Call to action button is the default salient color, which isn’t my accent color. I have cleared the cache, tried multiple browsers and multiple computers and it stays the default Salient color no matter what I select.

I have added custom CSS with (#FF5000!important) as a current work around, but my Main accent color is #FF5000 and in the main style.css the call to action button background color as #27CFC3. The UI for Salient isn’t changing the code.
The reason the option is not effecting your button on the front is because you still have the old HTML from before 2.1 for your call to action. Therefore the new rules are not correctly targeting your element. This can only be due to:
- 1. An incomplete update or
- 2. Using a child theme and having a footer.php that has not been updated to use the new markup.
I left a comment yesterday about getting the nectar slider to show up on the blog page with fullwidth masonry.
You told me that do_shortcodes was the right approach but it’s still not working. This is the code i’m inserting in to index.php ”<?php echo do_shortcode(‘[nectar_slider full_width=”true” arrow_navigation=”true” bullet_navigation=”true” parallax=”true” location=”blog” slider_height=”400” autorotate=”“]’);?>”

I believe I forgot that the nectar slider script won’t load because there’s a conditional in place to only load it if a nectar slider is found within the content editor. You can modify this to just load it on every page in the functions.php – run a search for ”//nectarSlider mediaElement” to end up at the relevant code.

It is loading but that slider is ignoring my settings and only pulling in one slide. It’s not parallaxed and the arrow navigation isn’t appearing.
Modifying the functions.php at least made the slider show up but it’s broken and ignoring my settings.

1. in regards to all your slides not showing up – there’s probably a query conflict when running the slide query on the same page as the blog post query. Are you on 2.1 as well? Make sure you’re attempting this on the latest version so we can rule out any older bugs.
2. You need to place your milestones in column shortcodes. I just purchased and started configuring. I’m having a problem with the background image in one of the sections. The website is (www.soapbrand.com). The section is the “testimony” section right under the main slider. The background image doesn’t appear until you actually scroll way down, and then it disappears again once you scroll up.

Hey! What’s happening is a browser glitch from you placing it too close to the parallaxed slider. The two parallxed elements will cause browser level bugs in safari and chrome due the video & css3 animation aspects (Firefox and IE will be fine though). So you need to either unparallax one of the elements or move your fullwidth parallax section down the page to the point where when the user scrolled to it the parallax slider would be completely out of view.
How do I un-parallax just the testimony section?
You can alter the parameter
parallax_bg="true"on the fullwidth section to be false

1. You can import the included dummy data file to get al the setups to use/learn from. See this in regards if you need a tutorial: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_wKJFYCZN1U
2. Check out the “How To Update” section in the user guide – basically you just have to delete the old version and upload the new, nothing fancy. Also, your data will persist through the update so don’t worry about losing content

Hello.
First of all I would like to thank you for making such a nice theme. I have however, encountered a small problem as my website enters it’s final stages. I am using the Comic Easel plugin for publishing webcomics, which requires me to add do_action(‘comic-area’); into the single.php file.
What this does is add the webcomic into the post if the post is of the type “comic”. My problem is that the featured image is still posted underneath it in the post. Is there some way of disabling this extra posted featured image, to avoid this double posting?
