Hey there! First off, love the theme. Already use it on an agency website and plan on buying another license for a magazine site.
Have a few questions:
I am planning to build a magazine website with a full membership platform and such. The content provided as part of the online side of the magazine is free but the membership side would be paid/unpaid.
- Would this require me to buy the extended license or the normal one? tbh, can’t afford the full license but I rather clarify as I do massively respect your work.
Now, I want to build a magazine site as mentioned. This being a compilation of review plugins and such. A few design element questions:
1. Is it possible to make the featured component of any post anything (such as a video, an image or sound, whatever), but on the front end of the blog, let it only show a featured image and no other form of media? (sorry if this isn’t worded perfectly)
2. How much of a load would it add to the site if I started adding social media share tools (digg digg for instance) and a review plugin? I don’t want to break or overload the shiny new version of Salient lol
3. the site I have at the moment is TheArtsScene.ca – do you think, except the obvious 1 or 2 plugins – I can use the tools in Salient to create the relatively same design experience? Not looking for massive technical answer, but you know the capability of Salient far more than I do haha
Sorry for the ton of questions. This is a massive project I’m working on and I’ve been using Salient since the early days of release. I can’t think of any other platform to start from.

To be honest, i’m not sure if you could get away with a standard license since it seems your project might legally require an extended one – if you want to double check with Envato I would shoot them an email in regards since the question would apply to any theme on here not just Salient in particular.
1. Yes, but it would require some custom css to hide the other content in post. (Not that hard of a mod)
2. You should be fine, I wouldn’t worry about the load a plugin like that adds – if you need to have that functionality there’s no other way around it anyway.
3. You could emulate a lot of it for sure, but would need some plugins as you already know and then you’d probably have to fine tune the css for them as well.

Thanks for the reply! I ended up consulting with themeforest and they said Im in the clear as far as licenses are concerned.
I completely forgot to ask: can I use the Nectar slider for blog posts? I would certainly want to emulate the magazine element of the website with featured blog posts showcased in the slider.

In regards to your question – you would have to create the slides up manually (as there’s no way to pull in posts to populate the slider automatically), but you could link each slide to your desired featured post

I’ve installed the new update and yet I can’t notice anywhere where I should change the nectar slider to give me a 100% window height… It seems to still only restrict to pixels for the height of the slide???

Hey Dan, there’s an option right in the shortcode generator when you’re configuring the Nectar Slider for “Fullscreen Slider”.

One thing though, how do you size up a video embedded into the slide? For example, my video is full width but not deep enough to fill out the full depth of the page? Shouldn’t there be some way to make it deeper and then if it’s wider that part just isn’t shown? (cropped?)

Just supply a full HD 16:9 video and it will always scale to cover the screen correctly

Also, was there any change at all that could maybe render the logo or top bar transparent or invisible if you’re on the home/top? Seeing the white strip across the top and wondering if its been looked at possibly making this transparent or lesser opaque?

1. Check the changelog – the second update contained an emergency bug fix
2. Again, all of the changes are documented in the changelog & unfortunately there was no transparent header option added – that would still take custom css.

Hey ammirs, you can add whatever content you like to each portfolio item page, but for the main portfolio page you only really have the options of thumbnails.

I like how Portfolio Full Width (Alternative Style) looks like. But really, I can`t find solution to make same. It doesn`t show category filter above (I did all what need). And other question: How to add same style on home page with shortcode? I know where is that in shortcodes, and I put shortcode in content and tick what need to get “Portfolio Full Width (Alternative Style)”, but I don`t get that. Poent is, I want full width portfolio with category filter I choose and to be able to make same with different categories on any other page.

You just need to make sure you enable the sortable option to show the filters. Here’s a full shortcode you could paste for an example:
[nectar_portfolio enable_sortable="true" horizontal_filters="true" project_style="2" category="all" layout="fullwidth"]

Again me, but now with some advice for next update. It is about “Recent Projects” shortcode. I think, it would be great if the shortcode has option to select more than one category to show, not only one or all. Because, in my case, I need that to show different portfolio items on different pages. And it is not just about me, I think there is other people who would love to use that. So, if you are going to do that, it is not only because of me, but all other people who use your great theme.

The current release already allows you to select multiple categories for that shortcode – it’s a multi-select (ctrl + click on PC and command + click on Mac).
Hmmm….I don`t know how, but in my case I do not have that option. I use 2.1.5 version of theme, that`s the latest one, right?

Hey guys. Great Theme, but I am having a problem with a product page created with woo, I didnt have this problem when I created it but somehow the footer has extended up to where the product information is, heres is an example of what I am dealing with.

OK.. also the horizontal items for portfolio only work if you have a few, too many and it breaks the page. And as we discussed previously, only those items show that are on the page. For instance, bars and pubs are on page 2, but the link are showin. Click the link and no portfolio item appears. Cos its on next page, so you should either have it appear, or not have the link show. Better now ive gone full width but i think the css needs looking at to format the categories neater and better and have better alignment. Maybe align right and have a bigger space for the chosen cat text. Your demo ok with few cats but add more and it looks messy.
The full width layout doesn’t effect the navigation width, it’s the same in either case.
However, I’ve made a fix for the items showing when they shouldn’t in various pages through the pagination and also included a safety net to align the items better when there’s not enough room. These two items will be included in the minor bug fix update already in the ThemeForest queue pending approval

Hi! I was recommended your theme after buying another one. I am really interested so tested some plugins on my friend’s site.
The most important plugin didn’t work properly somehow. The WordPress Live Chat Plugin for Sales and Support doesn’t appear at the bottom.
Under the settings of it, it states that “Chatbox doesn’t appear? If you dont see chat box in front-end, that means wp_footer() function is NOT located in your theme. So just add it in footer.php of current theme.”

I have seen a good deal of my buyers use live chat plugins and haven’t heard reports of any conflicts. The quote you pasted in here does not apply to Salient, as it does indeed use “wp_footer()” – something else must have been at play with your friends site. If you end up purchasing the theme just let me know if you run into an issue and I’ll help you through it

Hey genuin4! Yes, I have intentionally left out sound in the video backgrounds though because since they autoplay and loop, sound could get annoying to the user. The feature was designed to add an appealing but not overwhelming design element into the mix – but if you need sound, it will play

Hey settoreq, that’s unnecessary now that there’s a portfolio shortcode in v2.5. You can use that to display a portfolio in any layout, showing any categories, anywhere

the last upgrade is broken, dont work ajax, and many other things… will wait until is fixed. from admin you cant use the new stuff.

i dont know why, we uploaded all files and didnt work the ajax search with the latest version, also from theme information from admin still see the number 2.05 and many of the portfolio improves like full wide was not there…
If your theme version doesn’t say 2.5 than something went wrong. Open your style.css and verify that’s the release you have at the top.
thanks, but we just launched the site with the earlier version, where all was working fine for us. We will wait to the next update for upgrade the theme, this version was not working for us as expected.
