Hi ThemeNectar, I’m requesting an update to how Salient handles the © copyright footer.
Currently it’s not editable from within Wordpress nor fully from within Salient’s editors. I read recommendations here and elsewhere to edit the footer.php file. I also see that Salient enables me to concatenate the “default” footer with any text entered at Salient / Footer Options / Footer Copyright Section Text.
For those reading this who are unfamiliar or would just like to know how the copyright footer works, the default copyright text is in bold, below. Note the first three items (copyright symbol, year, and site title) are fixed/locked down:
© 2014 Site Title [plus any contents from the text in Salient’s Footer Options text field]
I think the default behavior for that Footer editor should be to edit the entire footer, not to add text to the end of the footer. Several reasons, starting with reasons it isn’t ideal to lock down the first three items:
- If I’m to choose creative commons, rather than traditional copyright.
- Being tied to the current year, when some work was created last year or four years ago, so a moving-target copyright isn’t accurately applying to previous years the content was live. A better default, if it’s possible to determine the first post date, might be 2008-2014.
- The name of our site is not always the name connected to our copyright. This is a problem with parent companies of the site.
- Editing the footer.php is much more difficult with a frequently updated theme like ThemeNectar’s Salient. Since you update frequently (thank you!) I hate to think I’ll have to remember how to update the footer.php file every time I drag-and-drop the updated theme files onto the server (nor would I want to teach my client to do this!).
- Creating a Child Theme, as I have, is good for overriding styling items via styles.css. A child theme is not as useful for overriding content choices in a field buried several levels (divs) deep inside a footer.php file. Note, this goes against the model of keeping content separate from code, giving a some weight to the notion that this content should be editable from within the CMS.
- I bought this theme for a site I’m doing for a client. I plan to hand off the site with a little training, so that hopefully the client can use WordPress and Salient’s CMS tools from here forward. But the client’s copyright footer is uneditable by them without my team’s help.

that’s quite the analysis! In response, yes – I’m aware of the limitations the current method brings. While it truly is safe to alter this in a child theme (I haven’t modified the footer.php of the theme in many months and don’t see a need to in the foreseeable future either so update conflicts wouldn’t be an issue), I agree there should be an easier way. I’ll note to add this in the upcoming minor release

Is there a tutorial I can read on how to remove the actual pricing from the pricing table. Not sure what this means “Yes, you could remove the price from displaying either with CSS or by removing it all together in the function that is creating the markup in shortcode-processing.php :)”

there’s no tutorial available for that because it’s just a small arbitrary mod. Here’s how to remove it with css though – just enter this snippet into the Custom CSS box located in your Salient Options panel:

-For some reason the view larger button keeps pointing to the featured image and not the full size image. How do I fix this?
-Also, I noticed that on some of the featured images I created have white rectangles appearing on the sides. Not all of them.
Should the recent images be a specific size to avoid this?
-Is there a way to set the images as different sizes or do they have to all be uniform?
-How do I just display the image in the recent work section? It currently shows the title and date at the bottom and I’d like that removed.

1. The view larger is linking to the full sized featured image – can I grab a URL
2. I haven’t heard of that before, just perhaps it could be a conflict with a plugin? If you can let me know a project to look at that has this issue I can tell you definitively what’s causing it
3. Oh, I thought you meant white edges on the lightbox versions. Scratch what I said in #2 then, it’s just a matter of your images being to small. Ensure that the dimensions are at least 600px by 400px.
4. You can have the freedom to use the masonry sizing which offers 4 different options as seen here: http://themenectar.com/demo/salient/portfolio-fullwidth-masonry/ and also if you go with the masonry layout non fullwidth and supply custom thumbnails instead of featured images all the sizes are up you and won’t be restrained.
5. Add this into the Custom CSS box located in your Salient Options panel:
.recent-work-carousel .portfolio-items .work-meta {
display: none!important;
}

I see a few days ago you had an issue with scrolling on an android tablet. I too am having the same issue with a Kindle Fire HD 8.9, Silk. The site functions but is unable to scroll at all.
I’ve only just bought the theme and am playing around with it so I don’t really have a URL to share, but the domain is inkmethod.com.

I’m going to be ensuring that the smooth scrolling featured doesn’t get queued up on all mobile devices in the upcoming minor release – for now, you can just disable that option from the Salient options panel.

first of all great theme – very pretty! I had a pre-sales question. I noticed that in the paradise portfolio all the hovering over the picture shows the date. I would imagine that option of showing the date can be changed to a location or anything else. Is that correct? or will it always show the date.

Currently there’s only the option to show the date, but removing that all together is very simple. If you wanted to switch the information shown there instead, you’d have to modify the file a bit.

Question about slider… I decided to put Revolution Slider for a little more layer effects. A couple pixels are visible above slider and about 20px are below rev slider. If you can tell me the code and where to place custom css I would appreciate it!

Top rev slider is accomplished making another home-template file and inserting PHP line where Nectar Slider Div was.
Second rev slider is shown by just clicking on shortcode and selecting red icon for Rev Slider.
The top one has px above and below it.
The second one will loose nav arrows if I tell rev slider to force full screen.
Not sure best method to have a tight 0px padding rev slider on page. If you can tell me the code and where to put it I will!
Side Question:
Is it possible to have a diff background for each page? If yes, what would the CSS or code look like?
I would like a different background for each page.

1. Add this into the Custom CSS box located in your Salient Options panel:

2. In the page builder view on each page there’s a css button in the top right hand corner that will allow you to input css that will apply to the current page only. In that box you can enter this to change the background image:

Yeah I’ve tried that but it didn’t seem to work.
I installed this plugin http://wordpress.org/plugins/allow-swf-upload/installation/ which allows me to upload but when I try to place them on a portfolio page like I do with jpegs but it doesn’t seem to show apart for a link which goes to an attachment page but once there it still doesn’t show.
Is there a way for me to place them on a page for users to interact with and play on the same page?
You have to still embed the object once you’ve uploaded it and have the source from your server like this:

Forgive me but I’m a complete novice at coding/ embedding objects- how can I embed them, also where should I put that code in and what parts do I customize in the code itself?
I’ve even installed this plugin http://kimili.com/plugins/flash-embed and it still doesn’t show on my page.
The code I pasted above would get added into the text tab on your editor and all you need to do is change the “file.swf” in those two place to your actual source. After you do can you please supply me a URL to check it out if it’s not loading?

The only known issue I’ve had reported was scrolling on Android tablets only works some of the time – in 3.0.5 I remedied that, but unfortunately haven’t heard of the bug you’re mentioning to fix it. I’ll note to test
Pre purchase questions:
1. is there a way to center the logo? if not how hard would it be to get it done?
2. does the theme support layerslider from codecanyon? cause I need true parallax effect on mouse movement not only when scrolling
3. in future releases are you planning on updating visual composer so it’s always uptodate with it’s latest release?
4. any plans on releasing a dev license? so I can use this as a base for future clients/projects since it has some nice tweaks compared to the stock visual composer script.

1. It would require custom css – it would only prove to be difficult if you left the header resize effect on.
2. There’s no known issues with that plugin, but if you encounter any just let me know and I’ll help
3. I’m going to updating it when necessary and including it with my own updates – it’s a forked version of that plugin, so updating it will require time.
4. I might look into what options I have available in the future in regards to this, but as of now I haven’t considered this yet.

hey nevermind, i figured it out…
For others who might be looking, it’s editable via dashboard menu > PAGES > [create or choose a page which will be your Portfolio page*] > open it for editing options and see right side
!!! Note that under PAGE ATTRIBUTES, the Template must be set to “PORTFOLIO” for the “Portfolio Display Settings” box to appear !!!
Then the “Display Sortable” checkbox will show up, yay!

Another way to add a sortable portfolio would simply through the portfolio element in the page builder or portfolio shortcode in the editor. Both of those ways will allow you to enable the sortable filters with a checkbox when adding the element.

After the update to Salient version 3, our portfolio section’s last line of thumbnails started getting cropped from the bottom. It was OK on the previous version, but on this one, the base line of thumbnails are cropped from the bottom. Here, please scroll down to bottom and take a look.

If you needed them to all be external, you could just choose to display your portfolio without the filters and then hardcode all the links above that element in your editor

They are getting different css classes. The one with class=”custom-thumbnail” is sizing differently than class=”attachment-portfolio-thumb wp-post-image” but even if I enter it as a custom thumbnail, it displays larger. Thank you, Mary
Of course, since I posted this I was able to fix it by removing and replacing the image 5 different ways. (even though that didn’t work last night) I would still appreciate some insight as to why that happens. Thanks!!

If you uploaded the image through the custom thumbnail option, there will be no hard cropping ensuring the same size as the others – it would be up to you to verify the proportions before uploading. The featured image is the correct way to have your images auto crop and remain the same size
