Hey, really interested in the theme, liking the functionality but one things really holding me back -
Even though you’ve got the 5 odd different post types, there doesn’t seem to be a lot of layout flexibility within each type – it’s either with sidebar or without sidebar. I know you’ve already got a road map for future updates but are you looking into adding more variety into this?
1 – The layout I’m really after is a narrower full width image plus a sidebar underneath alongside the content.

2 – Is it possible to have the navigation background and featured images running off the sides of the screen and not restricted to 1078px?
3 – Lastly, is there an option to not display the date and comments icon in the slider / nav / homepage blocks and to remove the meta content on the blog page?

The flexibility is mainly in terms of types of blocks available for constructing the main part of the homepage. Yes, for the sidebar it’s mostly right sidebar or no sidebar for now and we’re actively taking feedback and looking into what our users really want in this area. We’re taking feedback and considering different changes in this area but nothing has materialized yet.
1. That won’t really be possible by default currently, without a customization. It’s actually one of the features on the roadmap. We can guide you on how to achieve this earlier if you need or you can keep SmartMag on your watch list for a future update.
2. There’s a custom css we have posted to have full-width navigation but it won’t be possible for featured images at the moment.
3. Again, it’s not a default feature but some of ours users requested this and solutions for multiple variations of this are available at forums.

I just have three more questions about the theme :
1) Is there a way to make the featured image of every post not clickable ? By default, when we click on a picture, it opens it and I don’t want it to be allowed.
2) Is there a possibility to replace the newsletter subscription from feedburner to mailchimp for the sidebar widget ?
3) About the favicon. It displays well on the hompeage but doesn’t when I’m on a single article or page. Any idea why ?

1. Not by default. Please post at forums to get a solution on this.
2. Feedburner is the only supported subscription in the subscription shortcode. However, you can use mailchimp’s own plugin or any of the other plugins available.
3. favicon is added throughout the site. If you’re using chrome, try going to another tab and you will notice the favicon – it’s not shown on the active tab.

Love this theme – is it possible to allow users to register to submit their own posts into its own categories (selective) too? If you guys are interested in even customizing this for us, our client would pay for the extra functionality.

I’m hoping to use this theme for my university newspaper. My group reviewed a ton of themes and really like it.
Right now, we are low volume (maybe 4 stories per day) and are working on getting better photos. But many times, we won’t have a featured image — for breaking news or for stories that are about less visual concepts, for instance.
So, I have a few presale questions I’m hoping you might be willing to answer:
1) Would there be any way to keep the slider, but replace the three-photo cluster in the feature area with a headlines widget (like “Top Stories” or something) that we can assign to that area?
2) Can the slider be static (just one image)?
3) In the homepage blocks, does text slide over to fill a void left by a story with no featured image? For instance, say, we used the “highlight block” but the stories didn’t have photos, would the text slide up to occupy the space where the photo should be? (Likewise, would the three secondary headlines slide left to occupy the space where the photo should be)? Same thing with the blog presentation: Would text slide left? Or will it all show up like white space?
4) Can you easily add more than four posts in any homepage block? I know four is the default, but we might find use to have a few more on the homepage at times.
This will be very helpful! If you had any screenshots to illustrate what a block might look like with no featured image, that would be bonus, but no worries. If these things are possible, I’ll be signing up today!

1. It’s not a default feature but due to users request, we create a modification, that’s available on our forums, which allows you to use a widget on the right side of the slider.
2. Again not a feature but there’s a modification for it.
3. It slides up by default for top images but not for the left ones. Since magazine themes are built around images, it doesn’t look very good. We can suggest some tweaks for a better look with your requirement, but we cannot guarantee it to look as aesthetically pleasing as in the demo – that’s only achievable with a typical usage where every post an image. Perhaps you could consider some placeholder images that are designed to look more appealing.
4. Any number of posts can be shown. It’s a setting for each individual block in the page builder.

Many thanks for the response. I think we are going to build up a stock image database so we can use this. Lastly, I also should ask, photo captions will be important to us. Can those be added, and is there a modification that would allow them to mimic a news layout (left aligned, below the photo, not boxed) instead of the default centered-and-boxed WordPress caption format?
Hey. Image captions already work for WordPress default galleries but they use the the centered format. To make them left-aligned would be a simple Custom CSS we can suggest for Theme Settings. Do you have an example of what you’re going for?
We can help with small changes but if it’s a dramatic shift from what we have there by default, then that goes beyond what we can offer.

1. Sorry. ThemeForest only offers two kinds of licenses. Either the regular or unlimited use Extended license: http://themeforest.net/licenses
2. It works with BuddyPress default styling but there isn’t special theme styling available for BuddyPress yet. And yes, 600+ Google Fonts are supported in Theme Settings.

Also, is the theme easy to setup as a Tumblr-type theme as a lot of the ones I’ve seen here don’t seem to be either BuddyPress/bbPress compatible or don’t look good enough to me and I definitely like this one enough to buy 3 separate licenses for 3 different projects; 2 blogs along with the online community project I mentioned a few days ago.
Apart from the page builder blocks, there are 3 types of category listings available you can see in the demo. Please check them out to see if they can be suitable for your tumblr-style needs.

I just bought the theme to use it on a old newspaper website I have. After uploading the theme, updating wordpress and activating the theme, I ve the “White screen of death” on the website. Any idea why ?
I mean, what are the requirements for this theme ? Maybe it’s not about the theme but about my wordpress. I tried tons of things like switching off all plugins, going back to the twenty twelve theme via ftp, adding more space etc. All the solutions Google gave me but now I’m stuck.

Since you’ve already tried de-activating all the plugins, other things to ensure are you’re at least on WordPress version 3.6. It’s highly recommended that you use WordPress 3.8.1. The theme uses most of the WordPress default components and functions, so there aren’t any special PHP extensions required – except for json extensions (WordPress’s default json parser is slow).
If that’s not the issue, please create a topic at our Support Forums. If you can get access to your webhost’s error log, that will be helpful.
