Quick question – is it possible to have a video background in the Nectar Slider that’s linked from Youtube or Vimeo rather than uploading onto your own server?

Unfortunately you can’t use an external video for a background with content on top of it – but you can easily place a full width external embed by simply adding it into a row set to full width content type

Does the video files have to be served locally through wordpress or can it be linked to an external source eg S3 etc?
My concern is bandwidth usage and my server not handling traffic and streaming video

Hello. Is there any plans to switch to a regular forum, so we can view and learn from other postings. Would also be nice to see some sticky threads and knowledge base articles. 1) Can you please consider an alternative search, like displaying a search box below icon when you select the search icon. This would be better for more business related sites. 2) Also consider ability to change social icons to match their own colored styling, similar like dante theme. Thanks!

Hey Theme Nectar, you guys did a fantastic job with Salient, and the tutorial videos were super helpful too. I’m driving it at 2nd gear with the few features I used and my novice understanding. I made a lot of use of the video background nectar slider too, with audio in some. You’ve done a great job! One thing I noticed is your bar graph is overlapping the text on your about page since it has a long label and a small %. You could opt to hide the tooltips to avoid this by entering this into the Custom CSS box located in your Salient Options panel:

How does rob achieve the ‘Choose A Chapter or Scroll Down’ carousel, on http://thelifecycle.roblutter.com/journal/ please?
I am assuming he is using the ‘Recents Projects’ shortcode, however there appears to be no way of calling in anything other than portfolio items, Rob has somehow used this to call in journal/blog post entries – how on earth has he done that please?
Please can you explain in a little more detail how Rob has achieve the parallax background images on his homepage: http://thelifecycle.roblutter.com/ eg the section with the background and the overlay image on top with button below (there are 2 of these on the homepage (25p per km and Journals)), I thought it was the Nectar slider but I cannot achieve the same effect using this.

Hey Rich,
1. There’s an option for “External Project URL” in each of your project edit/create screens. It’s located in the project configuration box and can be used to link the project to anywhere you need it.
2. Create a row with the type set to full width background with the parallax option on. Set a good amount of padding for the top and top bottom e.g. 150 and then simply place an image element into the row with your desired overlay image

1. The project still works the same as it did before, meaning the image is still going to come from the featured image set in the project itself.
2. Are you looking for an example set up of the external portfolio link or the parallax section with an image inside?

Hi guys, I have another quick question. The slider with video backgrounds is great and it works but only sometimes and only in Chrome. Other times (and in Mozilla never) it doesn’t load anything. What could be the issue? Thanks.

Hi, fantastic theme.
I’m working with a client of mine, and I have a few questions about the nectar slider that I’m hoping you can answer.
1) How is it possible to have other images on top of the nectar slider, like this guy (www.svgdesign.com) has?
2) I tried making the caption smaller and more “shrinked”, by editing the “style.css”, but when I try to open the page it looks like this (http://prntscr.com/2ztuif). However, if I refresh the page, it looks like this (http://prntscr.com/2ztuq8) which is exactly how I want it to look. Do you know what could be the problem?
And no, it’s not because I changed the things in “style.css”, I have tried using the original “style.css” file, but the issue is still there. It’s not vertically centered when I go to the page, but when I refresh the page, it is.
Please help? The theme is great, but this is really annoying.

2. I would need to see a URL to assist with this one. And just to make sure I understand, you’re saying that in the default state of the theme with no mods it’s not vertically aligning until refresh, correct?

I can indeed see it happening on your site, but have been completely unsuccessful in replicating it on my end with the theme or on the demo anywhere. Would you be able to open a ticket in regards so I can investigate your setup more? Also please let me know if you can get this to happen anywhere on the demo as well.

I’ve been using the masonry homepage folio layout for sometime now and it always looked fine on chrome.. 2 days ago I go to my homepage and the boxes seem to now be off along with the spacing? I adjust a few things purely within my blog section (font & margins) but did not touch anything else… These only seems to be happening in Chrome as when I test it in Safari & Firefox, it’s fine…

1. Do you have an accent color set in the colors options tab inside of your Salient options panel?
2. Did you modify the stylesheets directly? If so then yes but if you only have custom css in the admin panel css box then you can delete the whole theme.

Hey radisafi, there’s actually no way or option to disable the parallax from the Home Slider (it’s an option on the Nectar Slider though) so if it’s not working, I would need to see a URL to find out what’s going on.

Hey morningowl! You have the option to add video BG’s by either setting them on your row in the page builder view or by using the Nectar Slider. There’s tutorials that show both these methods here:

The page you’re trying to emulate uses the Nectar Slider with all of the text in the heading field. (This is how the parallax effect is on too). Hello. I followed your instructions on making the page width wider for both boxed and wide layouts. It seems to work, but the responsive behavior really seems to fall apart. Will more width options be included in the next update? Also, any news on when me might see the update? Thanks!

The responsive behavior shouldn’t be affected if you placed the width mod in the correct media query – can I please see the css code you’re using & your URL?

Sorry just a couple more questions for this evening…
1) My lightbox images are not loading it says: Image cannot be loaded. Make sure the path is correct and image exist. Images are there in the media folder though? 2) On http://thelifecycle.roblutter.com/ in the section which has the image 25p every km, how do you over lay an image over a background image please? 3) Towards the bottom of http://thelifecycle.roblutter.com/ e.g. latest chapters and recent photo sets how has Rob created these sections? He has managed to get a title above the images and a small 4 square icon on the left, which options in page builder do I need for this please? 4) And lastly 2nd photo set down on http://thelifecycle.roblutter.com/ e.g. 3 images with larger image to the right, when I create this the larger image of the 3 goes all small – can’t find an option to span the 3 images across

1. Please make sure you have a featured image set – if you can provide me a URL i’d be glad to take a look
2. It’s simply an image element inside of a row that has its type set to full width background with the parallax option on.
3. That’s the recent project element and the four square icon will automatically be placed above unless you check the option for “Hide Carousel Controls”.
4. That’s the masonry option in the portfolio element. You just have to select fullwidth and the 2nd project style to get it to look like that. Please see the Masonry Sizing section in the user guide in regards for more info as well

We’re looking into buying your theme and have a quick question. From what I can see on your video shortcodes, I think there is only the ability to put in a video from YouTube or Vimeo? These are the two questions we would like more information on:
1) If we use a shortcode to display a YouTube or Vimeo video, is there a way that we can add in our own custom thumbnail instead of the default one that shows on YouTube?
2) Can we upload our own videos to our server and play them with a shortcode?

1. External embeds work the same with the theme as any other – unfortunately you can’t control the actual thumbnail through Salient directly, but you can set your thumbnail up in youtube/vimeo etc.
2. yes, you also have option to use self-hosted videos in which case the preview image is also controlled by you
