Is it possible to have arrows to scroll along the client carousels instead of waiting for them all to auto scroll? The swipe function on a computer isnt very user friendly, particularly if there are linked images

currently there’s no options for arrows for that carousel unfortunately but you can always disable the carousel in your clients element to display them in a grid if you’re concerned about people not seeing them all quick enough.

modding that file will be part of the process but it wouldn’t be a simple option to activate – more markup/css would also need to be added and then hooked up in the init.js
How do I update to the latest version of Salient?

You can update by downloading a fresh copy from ThemeForest, deleting the current version you have on your server and uploading the new. I recommend using FTP, but you can use the WP dashboard if you prefer. You won’t lose any of your content or theme settings so don’t worry about that if you were 
Awesome! Removed and installed. Now works perfectly. I imported the dummy data. I see the landing page is in the menus, but when I look at the actual pages, I don’t see the Home- Landing Page Template there. Nor do I see the Portfolio- Stick Sidebar. How do I use those templates to build from?

First of all, awesome theme and I truly LOVE it! It really gives me a lot of freedom for creating whatever I want.
Now, I am having a problem with adding captions to the images, standard captions that come with the wordpress. When I upload my images I add the caption and description to the photo but none of it appears on the actual page. Is there a way to enable it? Thanks!

Unfortunately, I can’t post the link since we are working on the website offline. On that note, however I was able to add captions to the images using the Insert Media button (the old style way of doing it in WP). It does keep the caption. The interesting thing is I can’t achieve the same result using the Visual Composer (Add row, add single image) unless I use the Text Block and insert media into it directly. That obviously kills the animation effect. Any thoughts or ideas why it might be happening? Thanks you for quick replies! Definitely no regrets about buying your theme!

This is occuring because the image element is a bit different than the add media button – Instead of adding the animation through the image element you could also easily add it onto the column holding the text block

When I upload the file from appearance themes in the wordpress backend, it said, “The uploaded file exceeds the upload_max_filesize directive in php.ini.”. How can I deal with it or should I install it from FTP?

You can either set your upload_max_filesize a litter higher or use FTP. If you install via FTP make sure you’re uploading the folder named salient inside of the salient.zip you downloaded to wp-content/themes

Hi Themenectar. You’ve made great theme! I’m looking around for my new theme) Like your theme much. But before purchasing I have a few questions to clear up, cause I didn’t find anything relating to it.
- Is it possible to set just color background instead of image on a slide? I do not plan to have much images, but a lot of different text info.
- Do you support any twitter feed widget or maybe have your own?
- What about bbpress, is it ok with theme?

1. You’d need to set a BG image of solid color or use css to set the BG color that slide (custom class names can be added to individual slides)
2. There’s none built in but there should be no issue using any plugins for this.
3. It’s not fully supported by default yet but is on the wishlist

1. You can change this with css if needed – there’s a css box on every page you can enter the rule into via the visual composer tab. If you need help just supply a page URL and i’ll assist.

Hi there,
this is really tricky as I think this theme is great but i’m really struggling with the ‘support service’. I’m up to two days (and counting) on my current questions!! An added insult is that one guy in particular seems very keen to do his best to either give half/incomplete answers because he hasnt read the email properly or wants to direct me off the site to get pay someone else to do it for me.
Now i’m no tech-head but im also not a noob and I knew that one query in particular was relatively straightforward. So much so that I sent the same question to you and you responded within a reasonable 24hrs with the CSS I needed. 2 basic lines of CSS code. That was it!
There’s nothing more frustrating writing a long and thorough email to wait two days to then have to wait another two days to get close to what one is looking for.
I’m not questioning the professionalism or commitment any of you have to making this theme the very best and I totally appreciate you probably have a constant backlog from theme updates but I really feel let down and frustrated.
I’m going to struggle on because in general I love this theme and most of what i’m asking are small tweaks that I know you’ve been asked a zillion times. In the end I hope ill get there. Im a creative, not a developer but then im sure you have many creative types using your theme who are like me.
I just needed you to know that its the support process and perhaps the approach of others in your team marring what would otherwise be a great experience and undermining your brilliant development of this theme . I hope you will take my email here as seriously as I did in the time it took me to write this.

I apologize that you’ve been feeling frustrated getting the tweaks you need – the support staff has to determine whether they feel it would take more than 10 minutes to write the css for mod requests. It’s true that I am more proficient with coding and have no problem going out of my way to help all of my buyers as long as it’s within reason. For the case you’re talking about I can only assume the staff felt it would take longer than it indeed took me and I’m sorry for that. For future reference, if all you’re looking for is a quick css snippet feel free to ask here so I see it before my staff – I have no problem answering small questions on the comments as I do everyday

I would like to style the address details that appear in the map / pin location overlays. Any HTML adding in the map element is ignored. I have found the following and started to edit the following but it doesn’t help me to break details such as address, tel, fax, email, etc.

Hi. Im starting to fall in love with the theme – but this also means that I am finding some limitations.
1. I only have 3 social links. But you have distributed very little space for the copyright section. How to make like Copyrigt take up 3/4 and socials 1/4 of the footer-width?
2. I know its not your table, but I hope you can help me on the Facebook-widget? many of your customers prob have same issues. www.kommunekommunikation.dk – NONE of the widgets I have found have a boarder that works, and I cant remove the boarder (I think its a theme-issue). + I cant make it responsive. You should add this in your next upload. That would be sweet.
3. On www.kommunekommunikation.dk I experience error when iPad is vertical. My logo does not go smaller (responsive) which means the whole menu screws up. What to do?
4. On mobile-device you place the search in the menu. However, it would be so much cooler if it could remain on top e.g. next to the menu-icon. Will this be possible? And how do I translate the search-text?

3. Do you mean when the iPad is horizontal? Checking out your site I don’t see any issues with portrait view.
4. This wouldn’t be possible without some custom development but as far as translating – that string is located in the .po file like the rest. If you’d prefer to edit it directly in the code it can be found in the header.php file though

Hey backin79, Youtube already compresses your video for ideal web playback when you upload it to them. I’m not sure how you could compress it further besides uploading it an even smaller size – but this doesn’t really have anything to do with Salient specifically or WordPress.

if i where wanting to remove the footer on specific pages…. would it be best for me to edit the page.php file, and remove the <?php get_footer(); ?> tag and then save it as a new template file? or would you suggest that i do this another way ?
or would i wrap it with a PHP statement stating <?php if( !is_page( ‘1’ ) ) : ?> and close tag <?php endif; ?>

I would suggest handling this with CSS alone as it’ll save the trouble of adding additional code into the files to keep track of through updates.
You could add something like this into the Custom CSS box located in your Salient Options panel:

First of all. I like your theme! Although… I’ve one problem. The WYSIWYG editor for the Extra Content textfield isn’t working for me. Also I cannot insert images / media files with the “Add media” button.
Is this a known bug? I’m using WP 3.8.3 and the latest version of your theme. Anybody else who is having the same problem?

Yes. That did the magic. I’m often using qTranslate for multilangual websites. Although they use certain tags in the content body <!- ENG -> for example. This totally mixes up the nice page builder your theme is given us.
What other multilangual plugs do you suggest? For now I’m building the Dutch variant, but would like to start working on the English and German version asap.

I have a few questions please,
Firstly, how can I change the padding of the main footer? I need to reduce the padding of the top section of the main large footer.
Also, how can I determine the color of when a hyperlink is hovered over? I can see that it is normally the accent color but is there any way to override this?
Lastly, in the footer sections when I add the ‘custom menu’ widget, there is a long dotted line under each word. Is there a way to remove this or some other widget i should be using?
