You have to install Buddypress plugin first, check documentation of theme.

Sometimes a not-logged-in user is redirected to the register page. Where can i change this? I don’t want that.

Yes, there is a language file. If you install foreign version of buddypress then almost everything will be already translated.

I am a Ning Creator with about 700 members and while the new 3.0 platform is much better your community junction is better and more affordable in the long run.
