I’ve begun installing BuddyPress on Salient and it’s a bit basic in terms of styling. I’d like to ‘pimp it up’ a bit more. I’d like to ask if you can recommend a skin or theme (ideally via Envato) that extends the look & feel of BuddyPress while not damaging or overriding the beauty of the Salient theme? Thanks.

Hi Nectar. I have created child pages under a parent page and I would like to have the parent menu item to be active (bold) when displaying the child pages. Right now, I’m not using a drop down. The child pages are accessed from various other pages. Is there a way I can make the menu item active? This is really critical from a UX perspective. My second questions is that I assume this works correctly for Portfolio items, correct? Thanks as always.

1. That’s how WordPress handles active classes by default so that would require the use of a plugin or custom development.
2. Yes, assuming your portfolio was named “portfolio” in your menu – if not, open up the init.js file and alter this: //portfolio more details page menu highlight

Stooopid question but is the ‘love this’ button just a way of locally showing your interest of a picture/blog etc? It doesnt link to a service like Twitter/FB or indeed a site called “loveThis?”
There’s nothing I can do with the stats or the likes are tied to another service which was my initial thought seeing as they sit next to FB & Twitter?

Hey Manish, the video BG available in the Nectar Slider is not meant to be used that way – it’s supposed to be a design element so controls were intended. However, if you want controls you could either use a video lightbox through a button in the slider as mentioned here http://youtu.be/FLU9Pxo_RD8?t=7m20s or simply don’t use the Nectar Slider and place a video embed into a row set to full width content to allow it to span the entire width of the screen
Hi, I would like to remove the sub level ‘portfolio’ slug from my portfolio urls completely (however i still want to use your masonary portfolio structure and functionality – i just don’t want the word/category ‘portfolio’ as a sub level at all. My website wont be using a traditional portfolio so it will look strange.

Can this be done? maybe a simple rewrite in HT.access?

If changing the slug won’t work for you (you can control what it says for portfolio in your portfolio options tab in the Salient options panel), than it would indeed require some rewriting. There’s one possible solution posted in regards here http://wordpress.org/support/topic/remove-permalink-slug-from-custom-post-type

Hi. 1. You offer this wonderful social-line which can be added as shortcode. However, it always breaks into a new line when inserted next to text (in a row). How to avoid that?
2. Below your posts you only have your heart. Cant this be replaced with your social line of icons? In this case I have 4 in total which there will be space for.

1. Is it occurring when it’s simply running out of space in the layout to display on the same line, or does it always fold over regardless? If you have a URL example that would be helpful
2. Unfortunately it can’t because those social buttons work by getting the share count of the current URL which would be the same for all since they would all be located on the same page
3. If you’re referring to the actual boxed layout option for the theme – there’s already a shadow, anyway you could elaborate a tad more or provide an image of what you’re looking for?

Just wondered if there’s a way to have a Featured image on a Post that appears in a ‘Recent Post’ Shortcode, on the Main Blog page but then doesn’t appear at the top of the individual post?
Personally, i’d like to choose to not use them on say ‘Movie Reviews’ but then do use them elsewhere on a different subject. However, to at least be able to choose to use them or NOT use them in the body of the post would be good.
Is this possible?

that effect is only available on the large icon styles built into the theme – it will get activated when you hover over a column that contains one, however if you wanted to use custom icons for this it would take some css
