Love the theme 
was hoping to create a navigation bar similar the the link below.
http://www.beatsbydre.com/homeyou will see that its slightly transparent and that the banner image shows through slightly – can we do this on the salient?
also they have a mega menu with images – please will you let me know if this is possible with salient?

@Jakobhanssen To update, I usually make an FTP backup of my current salient theme folder, (wp-content/themes/salient). Once the backup is completed, I use FTP to delete the file from my server. Then upload the new theme file (to replace the file I deleted) which I downloaded from from Themeforest. (log in, under your user name there is a “downloads” menu item, hit that, you can then download the new version)

Hey Rich, that’s the default WordPress validation for comments – if you wish to change it please check out some of the plugins that exist to extend this functionality

Is it possible to create a page then add in the recent posts widget, but instead of choosing a category I would like to choose an author to display, essentially I wanted to create author bio pages that then also pull out at the bottom blog news posts written by just that author…

By default the recent posts will not take author into consideration in order to do that you’d need to modify the query parameters in the file
Which file is that please? Can it be changed in the child? If not would you consider adding it as an extra option to the theme?
Are you referring to the actual recent posts widget which is placed into widget areas or the recent posts page builder element?

Where it says blog categories it would be good to have blog authors as well
That would located in the shortcode-processing.php file inside of the nectar/tinymce directory – just search for “recent posts” to end up at the right place

You can actually override the function that includes that file in your child theme to include a custom shortcode-processing.php – add this into your child functions.php and change the destination to your custom file:
function nectar_shortcode_processing(){
require_once ( 'nectar/tinymce/shortcode-processing.php' );

You’d have to add a new query parameter into the $recentBlogPosts array for your desired author http://codex.wordpress.org/Class_Reference/WP_Query#Author_Parameters

The query parameter would need to change conditionally since I assume you’re going to want to display different post sets by different authors on various pages correct?
Yes so essentially on an author page I will be using the recent posts plugin and would want to set posts associated to that user (if it was a drop down menu of authors in the plugin settings I could just choose the author)
Yes, but since there’s no option to select by that you’d need to do some custom development to have it switch dynamically. http://codex.wordpress.org/Author_Templates#Setting_Up_for_Author_Information this explains how to get the current author id so you’d plug that into the query paramters
wow maybe a little to complicated for me to add in by myself, before I ask further questions or delve into, do you think you may consider adding this to the next update? I think users would find it really useful

I would like the meta information where it produces your name to on click go through to a bespoke template is that at all possible? At the moment when you click the name it goes through to a page which shows all those authors posts.

Hey Rich, this would still require creating an author.php file in the theme directory where you’d have to query for that data above where the posts are displayed.

You can update by downloading a fresh copy from ThemeForest, deleting the current version you have on your server and uploading the new. I recommend using FTP, but you can use the WP dashboard if you prefer. You won’t lose any of your content or theme settings so don’t worry about that if you were

Is it possible to tweak or workaround the portfolio to look like lytebox-galleries? Don’t like all the back and forth between classic wordpress-galleries. The slideshow variety jumps the page up and down if images are not the same size, which is quite disruptive.
I am looking for something kind of like this.

Installed the newest version via Ftp. And essentially, nothing works anymore. Portfolio won’t show. Webcomic doesn’t work. The content is there, but it won’t show. Do I have to redo everything?

1. Did you do a fresh install where you delete the old version before uploading the new? Also, check to make sure your portfolio template is still assigned in the page attributes box on your portfolio edit page screen.

When all the social sharing icons on a portfolio page are active, they don’t quite fit on one line. I removed the heart icon, and am trying to fix the spacing for the rest, but am having some trouble. There is noticeably more space on the right padding than the left. Can you help suggest some css to fix this? Thanks
Hey acafella11, it’s recommend to not place them all into the sidebar if you’re gonna use them all – i’d recommend deactivating those and placing them into the extra content editor with the visual composer social element.

Really hoping to keep them there. There’s plenty of room with the heart icon removed. I’m just not sure where the extra padding is coming from? Hoping to center the icons in the middle of the borders.

I noticed a SEO problem concerning visual composer and animations: web pages builded with the VC are not recognizable to Google Webmaster Highlighter Tool. Expecially, text and articles with animation effects (fade in, etc.) are invisible to Google webmaster. That’s a real problem for SEO optimization and positioning. Is there a way to fix this? Or should I compose my pages with no VC and do not use effects on texts? Thank you Davide

Will do – in regards to your new question, it would be best to transfer the header into a child theme but for the functions.php – only the modded sections can be moved into the file (don’t just copy and paste the entire file or it won’t work)

You’re welcome – all you need to do is create a new folder for it in your wp-content/themes directory and add a style.css with a few lines at the top to import the parent theme styling (that’s all that’s required to initiate a child theme) see this in regards https://managewp.com/how-to-create-a-child-theme

Both possibilities would be ok! If it´s possible to link to a page to show the panorama with all functions as background, than this would work for me. And yes, for embedding, there is an iframe embed! So one of these methods is possible?

Hey Nicolas! The page actually is included in the modern creative dummy data file – I also intend on releasing a video tutorial on it soon, but it’s located inside of the visual composer row settings (just like the video background)

Hey I was wondering if it is possible to show a brief description on posts on one page and have it just show the featured image and title on another. I have http://www.topdank.com/marijuana-news/ which is just how I want it showing a brief description. My problem exists with http://www.topdank.com/marijuana-strains/ I currently have it as a gallery but i want it to be recent posts from a certain category ie marijuana strains. I want them as recent posts so they can be filtered by category sativa, indica etc. but I don’t want the brief description underneath as it makes it look cluttered. Is there any css or somewhere in the options to fix my issue. Thank you in advance I know you are the man. Great theme everyone should buy!

Can I manually enter a color for milestones? I’d like to color-code them to the specific portfolio item, and there simply aren’t enough options in the theme options panel to have all the colors I need. Is there any way I can add extra color options to the panel? I know I can manually override it for the page specifically in CSS, but that’s a messy fix.

The only video I see is located under the slider in the row and appears to render normally – can you place one into the slider so i can see the issue? Also I can’t seem to replicate the loading problem on FF/IE – what OS are you on and can you replicate this on the demo?

I found an issue with the Call to Action button after updated to 4.1. I have my button color listed as “See Through” but the button is displaying in the “Accent Color”. If I change mine to “Extra Color #3” it changes to that color, but when I go back to “See Through” it goes back to Accent Color.
It was ok before.
