Hi, I am getting this error since upgrading the plugin. Fatal error: Cannot redeclare get_attachment_id_by_src() (previously declared in /home/content/p3nexnas06_data02/14/2152914/html/wp-content/plugins/thst-feed/thst-feed.php:36) in /home/content/p3nexnas06_data02/14/2152914/html/wp-content/themes/podcaster/functions.php on line 25

Please Help!!!!

:(

Themestation, the fix actually broke the plugin. See comments above. We need help!

Have you updated the theme (Podcaster) as well, not just the plugin?

Hi,

I’ve upgraded to the newest version and now I’m getting this error site wide:

Fatal error: Cannot redeclare get_attachment_id_by_src() (previously declared in /home/xx/public_html/wp-content/plugins/thst-feed/thst-feed.php:36) in /home/xx/public_html/wp-content/themes/podcaster/functions.php on line 25

Just a heads up, I tried upgrading again. This time manually, and this time it did the trick. I guess something went bad the first time.

Thanks.

Just another thing, it seems that my “podcast archive” page got messed up for some reason.

I tried re-uploading the page-podcastarchive.php but it didn’t help:

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/2791670/Screen%20Shot%202014-09-25%20at%203.58.07%20PM.png

Any idea what could be causing this?

Thanks

This usually happens when the images aren’t cropped to the exact same size. Even though I’ve set crop sizes in the theme, WordPress sometimes messes them up. I’ll take a look, thanks for the feedback!

I have contacted support several times. I no longer have a web developer but when I did, he could not get the iTunes and rss links to work. I love this theme but I urgently need these feeds to work. I have tried everything. Please help. Nancy Burban

Unfortunately your developer never contacted me so I never got to find out exactly what problem they were having. Nonetheless, please update both, the plugin and the theme, the issue should be solved.

Hello,

I’m having a problem submitting the podcasts to iTunes. Is there something I’m missing? See screenshot: http://screencast.com/t/BFdp2dVfz

Thanks

Fantastic! Thank you very much!

I’m still getting an error. Is the feed supposed to be http://podcast.interx2.net/?feed=podcast

or

http://podcast.interx2.net/feed

The first one is the iTunes feed.

Really enjoying the theme so far. Nice work. I host my audio on soundcloud. When embeded, it displays the soundcloud player rather than the player that comes with the theme. Reading through the questions already asked, it looks like there is no way to embed a soundcloud file and have it use the theme player correct? If so, am I stuck uploading my audio (file size too large) or is there another source for me to host my audio with that is compatible with your player?

As long as you have a sound file that ends with *.mp3 (or other audio files supported by WordPress, you can read more about them here: http://codex.wordpress.org/Uploading_Files) the player provided by the theme will be displayed. If you embed something, the embeded player will be used. Unfortunately there is no way around this at the moment.

I’ve searched this forum for an answer to my question. I apologize if it’s here and I’ve overlooked it.

I am having difficulty placing my twitter, amazon search bar, and other misc. widgets on the right side of my front page.

What am I missing?

The front page does not have a sidebar, so your twitter, amazon bar and similar can only appear on the blog page. You can however make use of the social media buttons in the footer area.

OK got another question!

I’m trying to create a playlist with two MP3 files in the same post, and when I subscribe to this feed, one program (MusicBee) only displays and plays the second file, and another one (Podcast Addict) only displays and plays the first file.

How come? Will I have to split the two parts of the podcast in two separate posts?

Cheers!

Hmm so what’s the purpose of playlists? I’m confused.

The playlists are a native feature from WordPress that exist regardless of whether the the blog is being used to manage a podcast or not. I just made sure that Podcaster is able to support them. In the end it’s up to you how you make use of them. RSS feeds are only able to pick up one media file per post (whether it’s an audio or video file) so I would advise against using playlists when making posts that are part of your podcast. I hope this answers your question!

Gotcha.

Hello guys! First of all, great theme! I really enjoy it a lot and I’m using it for my french podcast on Marvel Studios movies.

Quick question though: how do I display the excerpt for the “featured episode” on the home page?

As you can see here: http://www.lesclairvoyants.net the featured episode is the only one that doesn’t display any description (i.e. the WP “Excerpt”) and I would like to add it. How can I do that? Do I need to edit a PHP file? Which one?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Cheers, JC/

You do realize that not having an excerpt on the featured (most likely the most recent) podcast doesn’t really make sense? I’ll look into it customization. Thanks for the reply.

The idea behind leaving the excerpt out was to keep the front page from being too crowded, but this sounds good as an additional feature that can be turned on or off. Thanks for the feedback!

Awesome! Thanks. :)

Hi, it’s me again. I have asked before about using the Featured Image as a front page header (or even the featured post image). Is there any way to do that? If not can you please add an update. As I checked I’m not the first one suggesting that. The “Front Page Header” feature is incredibly annoying and nonsense the way it is.

Answered your email!

Hi—Is the controls.svg file missing or not needed? The frontpage seems to be requesting it, but it doesn’t exist in the theme, unless I’m missing something. (Screenshot: http://imgur.com/6CEQ6ao )

I’ll look into this. Thanks for mentioning it.

I can’t seem to get the featured podcast setup. I have set “theme options” -> “podcast archive” to the right category, but am still not getting the featured podcast on the front page. I also added three test podcasts as well.

How many podcasts entries do I need before it shows up? Just one podcast would be nice if it’s more than one.

The docs are pretty light on the featured podcast.

Yes, thanks, finally I realized I needed the front page. My mistake.

Also, I’m wondering if there is a way to speed up the front page, as the page is loading quite slow. I know previously you mentioned something about how the mp3 has to load up. I’ll need to make this faster as it’s too slow.

Also this file: batch-icons-webfont.woff takes forever when testing the speed of the site. Any thoughts on that? (Using tools.pingdom.com)

I’ll try to look into how one can speed up the loading of the mp3.

Batch Icons however, is needed to display the icons properly. I can’t give any advice on how to make it load faster. Perhaps hosting it somewhere else might help.

Hi, guys!

I’m looking to add a blurb about my podcast to the main page under the player for the most recent episode- I’d like to have a description of the show, etc. so new users don’t just get a list of episodes without any context. I’ve tried adding it to the page-frontpage template in various places as both a header (h3) and a paragraph but it doesn’t seem to show up. Where should I place it?

Hi there!

page-frontpage.php is the right place to look, but you must consider that there are multiple loops there, depending on whether you have the seriously simple podcasting plugin active and so on. if you want the text to appear below the player, make sure you paste it above this line ’<?php if ( $pod_nextweek == ‘show’ ) : ?>’ it appears multiple times, so just try until the text appears. Just a bit of advice, if you’re not already using the child theme to make customizations like this, do consider it, so that they are not deleted when the next update comes around.

I hope this answers your question!

Hi! Setup the child theme, thanks for the reminder. :) I’ve found where you suggested to add the text, and it looks like this: http://cl.ly/image/46431O3r1s0B – Is there are way to actually move the text from being part of the featured player section to the space between the featured player and the episode list? I’m not a fan of it being over the featured image like that.

Thanks!

Try creating a div above the line if ( isset( $pod_front_num_posts ) && isset($arch_category) ) { and putting the text in there. This should do it :)

Hi there,

I am the author of Seriously Simple Podcasting and would love to chat to you about optimising the theme integration. I could also let you know of the v2 updates before v2 is released so you can accommodate them in your theme.

Let me know if you would like to chat – you can contact me from my site here: http://www.hughlashbrooke.com/contact/

Cheers, Hugh

Thanks for reaching out! I will send you a message.

Hi Themestation i have a question this theme supporting right to left languages ?

Thanks

Unfortunately not. This is a feature we plan on adding in the future, though.

Hi,

I just bought this but jus realised it does not take stats, e.g. how many played, how many downloaded?

Thanks for using Podcaster. Unfortunately this theme does not take stats. For that you might have to look around for a separate plugin. Podcaster supports “Seriously Simply Podcasting”, I am not sure to what extent stats are supported by that plugin. Either way, there should be a plugin out there that should help you.

I hope this answers your question :)

but it would not be able to use the player on your theme though which is why i bought the theme.

Sorry about that. Unfortunately there are no plans of adding stats any time soon. It will be considered as an additional feature in a future update, though.

I’m using your Podcaster theme and having issues with the post excerpt overlapping the space for the homepage. I have it set to “force excerpt” but it is still overlapping. If I change to “set in post”, it relies on the “read more” link, which is fine, but it displays images (which we don’t want on the homepage.)

Any ideas?

http://podcast.interx2.net/

Thanks for using podcaster first of all. It seems to me that in your test page, the overlaps are happening because you have used unnaturally long words. (especially the 2nd example) The forced excerpt counts words in order to know where to break off. (In this case after 35 words). So if the words are all very long, the excerpt itself will be rather long and overlap. Try putting “natural” text and the overlap issue should go away for now.

I’ll look into the images being displayed in “Set in Post” mode and add a bug fix in the next update if necessary.

I hope this answers all your questions. :)

That does fix the issue. Thanks for the help!

Hi, thanks for great work, I’m really enjoying your theme.

I have two questions: 1. I would like to replace featured image on a front-page with a slider. I’ve already installed and configured meta slider pro plugin for wordpress and added shortcode wrapped in php execution call in a page-frontpage.php. But I cannot seem to find a proper way of removing featured post from the page. Deleting/commenting corresponding code in the template is pretty dirty. Is there any other way? 2. So you’ve added auto update feature in the most recent version. I wonder how one should get around of updating the theme in the future without hurting custom changes to the theme’s code? I use git vcs, so should I update the theme through wp admin panel, then check diff of the changes you’ve made and then merge manually?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

Happy to hear you’re enjoying the theme. To your first question. You could make use of the child theme and edit all the bits of page-front-page.php that need changing. That way you don’t touch the source code and still get your customization.

The first question kind of already answers the second one. Use the child theme for all your customizations, that way they won’t be overwritten by updates. The main theme files will update separately and your changes stay untouched.

I hope this answers all your questions. :)

At this point, I’ve created a separate template, that mimics page-frontpage.php, but contains all other customization I need. Will the extra files get deleted during update process? Or update tool will merge origin with the working directory?

Hi,

I have a multilingual website and would like to use different logos for each language. I use the Polylang plugin for the translations. Is there any way to do that?

Thanks.

Hi, Thanks for using Podcaster. If you are running one website (and not a network with individual sites for example) then this is not possible, unfortunately.

I guess the same goes for the header image, right? I really hope I can have at least 1 image per language. That could be:

1 – Using the post’s Featured Image as header for the Front Page. 2 – Using the Front Page’ Featured Image manually. 3 – Any change in Functions that allow to set 1 header image per language.

Please I hope you can help me with this. This theme is fantastic but lacking multilanguage support would be a total letdown at this point and would make the theme impossible for me to use. Thanks!

I’m sorry, but at the point, I am not able to give adequate support on multi-language websites. Might consider making Podcaster multi-lingual in the future, but I cannot promise anything as of now.

Just emailed for the third time since last Sunday, still waiting for a response. I initiated the email from the support link, so I’m pretty sure it went to the right place.

Anyway, was curious about setting up the theme properly when you have an existing feed already submitted and approved in iTunes. Advice on the steps to take would be great.

I am using the theme, but just blog style, I can’t use it for the great look that was the reason if bought it until this feed question gets answered.

Sent an email :) Sorry again.

Very nice theme!

I’m having trouble with my podcast not displaying on the frontpage. I’ve looked all over the settings and couldn’t figure out, take a look at the image:

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/2791670/podcast.png

The highlight are is where the podcasts should appear, below the header and above the “from the blog” section.

Here’s a screen grab from your demo, where it’s displaying fine:

Thanks for your help.

Oh man do I feel dumb or what?

It was simply because I didn’t have enough podcasts posted.
