Hi, great theme, A+. Just a quick (important) point:

When a person searches by location and clicks “Update Listings,” it doesn’t show relevant results straight away. Rather, the user has to select the radius check box and click Update listings again. I can imagine that would confuse a lot of searchers.

Thought I’d give you the heads up.

Keep up the great work!

I think the problem also stops the Homepage map (when set) from functioning correctly.

We are in the process of fixing this issue, we hope for 1.0.0.4 of the Listify theme to be out this week with the kinks worked out, plus Skynet (Terminator) support added. ;)

Cheers! Adam

wow! Been waiting all my life for this :)

Any thoughts about an events extension? I want to use this primarily as a business listing site, but would be great to have same look and feel for and events calendar utilizing the map and beautiful layout. Could be a custom post type using same layout.

Looks amazing guys – good work.

Also, I’m not able to test out on mobile yet, but hoping that the image gallery is “touch swipe” on mobile – if not +1 for that feature. I’ll be purchasing soon. Thanks again.

I believe WooThemes is releasing a Events plugin for WooCommerce we will support this plugin in our theme so that vendors can post events, and allow customers to purchase tickets.

Not officially supported in the Listify theme but you might want to check out:

Cheers! Adam

Thanks for this info- I’ll stay tuned to for the events/ticket functionality

On your demo site all Listing Tags pages have the same content ( display all listings) . Is a bug or all your 41 demo listings have the same tags :) ?

The tags are “Grayed” out meaning it does not have that amenity, when a listing has that amenity it has a “Green – Tick”

Are we talking about the same thing?

Cheers! Adam

Getting our developers to look into this now, can you send us an email via our support so we can follow up with you?

Cheers! Adam

Hello Guys, First of all congratulations on this amazing theme: you’ve thought it out really well and it shows. Way to go!

I have a load of questions but please don’t get scared – for 90% of them I’m totally happy with just yes/no answers. I’ve done my best to study the demo before asking, so sorry if some questions are stupid. :)

1) I’ve read some comments here. I am confused by the content of the pricing tables you put on the homepage but then seem to understand that your directory does not allow different packages with different fields? Is that understanding correct? Or do I need a specific plugin for that?

2) Is the search results page layout the only one available (map on left, filters & listings on right)?

3) Can I create custom fields to link to a listing type and have these displayed as search filters on search results page?

4) Search results page: Filter by tag: If I run a blank search, if filter by tag selecting Wifi + Has TV I get 15 results. If I select Wifi + has TV + Good for Kids, I have 19 results. Would seem more logical that filter by specific combinations use “AND” parameters instead of and/or, right?

5) I have well over 12,000 listings scattered across the world. I want to avoid ‘giving away’ all my listings with sections that load general values (like e.g. menu > ‘category = restaurant’ which would load all restaurants in the world). This is not only excessive results and server work but also more info than required. Are there any default system links that point to this type of content info i.e. e default mysite.com/category-name/ or similar? If yes, can I disable them?

6) Is the directory built to handle & search such a large number of records (12K & adding) before it’s been known to ‘crash’ as confirmed by in-house precise tests you may have conducted?

7) I already have a large number of listings in CSV format which are picking up basic information (Title, Address, Email, Website, Category, keywords, short description, video URL). Is there a way I can import this data to populate the directory immediately without doing it manually?

8) If I upload listings automatically, Is it possible to load a placeholder image for listings to show on search results pages (& elsewhere) since they will not have a graphic uploaded by user? I’m thinking like my site logo or other… or maybe nothing at all?

9) If I have another separate Wordpress theme installation under mysite.com/blog/ folder, can it coexist with this theme if this is installed on the root (mysite.com)?

10) Do you have an ad (banner) manager plugin?

11) When an advertiser is registering his new listing, can he choose only with the country/state/city list I previously created or can they also add their entries to the Db? i.e. if I am not present in.. Rome, Italy but only in the USA, and italian advertiser wants to add his listing, will he be blocked because there is no ‘Rome?Italy’ or can he add it?

12) Can I implement Google Fonts in the site?

13) Search “WHAT” – is it possible to have an autocomplete feature on this field only? Either way, what data does this field actually search for? (i.e. keywords, listing title, listing description… etc.)

14) Does a site admin receive email alerts when new listings sign up (free or paid) or when someone signs up to the ‘notify me’ for empty search results? Are these emails customizable? Can they be setup with HTML templates or just plain text?

15) Are you planning on having a more magazine oriented feel for your blog to compliment the directory? Would be super!

16) can a single listing belong to multiple categories (paid or otherwise)?

17) Can users add a file attachment (e.g. menu PDF or special price listing word doc?)

18) Is there any hierarchy order in the Search results? How are they sorted Are these sorted by date added? And the rest of the listings, are they sorted alphabetically by default? (I see there’s filters but I do not see sorts)

19) Are registration and signup processes secure (i.e. do they use https if server is enabled)?

20) In simulating a checkout and then a second one I saw that it says “Credit card on file” (using your dummy card). Who stores this information? Woo commerce? Me in my Wordpress? Is there the option not to store this information at all?

21) Do I have control over the layout of the listing page? Can I add new fields?

22) Can I create sub-categories (tree-style level)?

23 – Can I determine the specific length of certain fields

24) – Once a visitor agrees to share location with the site, will the website remember their selection for all future visits or – like the demo – are they always asked upon loading of the home page?

25) – Can a listing edit their own URL? i.e. If I have a listing called “general market” in the system, and it defaults to mysite.com/listings/general-market/ what happens when the next “general market” comes along? (It’s a popular name…) does the system automatically generate like WP does for posts with same name something like /listings/general-market-2? (or not?) And can site manager (not listing owner) edit that URL before updating if he wants to/needs to?

26) – Is there a setting for sitemgr to moderate a review comment before it’s published on front end?

27) If currently I click on Listing Categories > Restaurants I am taken to https://demo.astoundify.com/listify/listing-category/restaurants/ In my case, only of restaurants I would have thousands of links. Is it possible not to make this page public? Or at the very least, if a user does that could it display listings closer to the site visitor?

28) I don’t see any sharing widgets or “add to favorite” on a search results or listing page. Is the “add to favorite” feature there? And could I ‘hardcode’ a sharethis widget placed somewhere within the page (if I can’t do this already)?

29) Since my directory is targeting a specific niche, I want to ask companies to identify if they have certain certifications in their business. I would like that these certifications (selected previously through a check box) are displayed on the listing page, each one with a relevant icon/graphic. Is this a feature I can setup on my own or that requires customization?

30) can a Listing upload more than one photo? And create a gallery perpahs?

31) How does deals & offers work?

32) LISTING SIGNUP PAGE: Listing Region: Is this always US states? Where are these determined/populated?

33) AMENITIES Can these be dynamic (based on Listing Category selected)

34) SELECT YOUR DEALS & PROMOTIONS It would seem like a listing user should create their own deal instead of choosing from a remade list. Can they?

35) LISTING CHECKOUT Is the checkout page I see on https://demo.astoundify.com/listify/checkout/ part of the WooThemes process?

GENERAL SUGGESTIONS FOR DEVELOPMENT A) LISTING SUBMISSION

Since a new user is submitting so much new content (identity, photos etc.) it would be nice if there could be a prominent hourglass to let the end user know that things are being processed – even better if it’s with a nice message!

B) SEARCH RESULTS It could make more sense that as the map is zoomed in or clusters opened, that the search results are updated according to the area displayed on the map. I see that search results change as I tweak filters, but a more active behaviour would be ideal.

C) It is common for many directories for both site manager and advertisers (from their respective backends) to have some statistics available (like number of times their listing came out on a search result or times people clicked thru to their listing page or from there clicked through to the advertisers website.

D) PLUGIN DESCRIPTIONS Just to bridge the gap between your knowledge & that of a newcomer of what all the extra plugins do, I suggest you use your pitch page to be very specific. for example: To do this function: use this plugin by Woocommerce (here’s the link on the demo of what it looks like “live”) To do this other function: use thisplugin by so & so… (here’s the link on the demo of what it looks like “live”) etc. I think this would be helpful especially because some of these plugins have names which are even more confusing (like referencing jobs [and not listing], vendors etc…).

The more “stupid” questions you anticipate on the sales page, the less time you’ll have to spend answering the same questions on this message board.

Cheers!

:) Sure thing Adam – done!

Hello Adam, I know you’re super busy, but have waited almost a week and now I would urgently need to have answers to the questions above to make an important purchasing decision within tomorrow. I know a lot of them are detailed questions, but just transitioning over to a new platform (Listify) & plugins from my current setup is a huge & complex operation and requires as much clarification as possible to be a success. Thanks for your understanding on this time-sensitive matter. As mentioned, using a yes/no/later where applicable is quite alright for me. Cheers.

Probably the easiest theme I’ve ever worked with. This took less than 20 min from activating the theme:

Could you send any feature request HERE: with the title “Feature Request” so we can log it in our system?

Thank you!!

For the location-based search (Have your Google location plugin installed) how do I expand the radius beyond what appears to be exactly my current address?

Hi – Amazing & beautiful theme,

I’m a bit surprised though that you want to be the “last directory we’ll ever need” but seem to have completely forgotten about the basic element of any successful directory: Multiple packages offering customisable and different fields and content at different prices.

This is at the core of any income-generating directory.

Is it possible that I have misunderstood and that it’s actually available?

Cheers!

2 more question Adam! Can the theme support over 10,000 listings and how often do you update and add new features? Cheers :)

We update the theme daily right now with features! You can see this from our sales page at the bottom there is a changelog.

AirBnb, Foursquare, ShareDesk and other large sites do not display all listings results on the first site load, they display the results that you are searching for, our theme works in a similar way, they display a selection of results that you are searching for then offer pagination for other results. Querying 10k results even for a very fast server/configuration would be just slow in general, either using WordPress or a custom CMS, Ruby etc.

Horrible to see all the premium plugins that’s not included. If you want your site to look like the live demos, you’ll really need to pay up! holy **!

Skipping ahead of some of the comments to answer this one first as its a comment that will get asked over and over.

If we (Astoundify) were to try to create our themes without the use of existing plugin solutions we simply would not exist. There is no sustainable way to develop all the functionality needed for our themes while still being able to sell at a competitive price.

Being able to focus solely on the theme itself and not the functionality that powers it allows Astoundify to really focus our attention on creating beautiful and usable products. Plugins themselves can often times be very barebones, so we really pride ourselves in being able to present them in an easy to use and simple way. Having to build the entire system out ourselves would not afford us the opportunity to focus our efforts in this way.

We spent a large amount of time on the design/UI/UX and integrating with all of the plugins, giving them custom styling in the theme so everything is seamless. If we spent time also creating all of the premium features then this theme would just not be sold via ThemeForest at the current price point and I highly doubt we would ever bring the theme to market.

Learn more here why we suggest plugins: http://listify.astoundify.com/article/260-why-does-this-theme-require-plugins

To read more about why these plugins are not bundled with the theme check out these articles regarding the issue.

http://coenjacobs.me/dont-bundle-plugins-wordpress-themes/
http://marketblog.envato.com/news/plugin-vulnerability/
http://wptavern.com/1000-wordpress-themes-on-envato-market-potentially-affected-by-revolution-slider-security-vulnerability/

It would be just plain crazy to include plugins from WooThemes when we are not the owners of those plugins, that would be stealing??

There are free alternatives if you do some research for example if your looking for a free alternative WooCommerce vendors plugin check out: https://wordpress.org/plugins/wc-vendors/

Hello,

There is an issue in the “Sign In” form:

Open the “Sign In” form and try to login with any false or incomplete data. The alert (error note) isn’t shown in the form but on the page behind and the data entered are lost when you return to the “Sign In” form again.

The validation has to take place in the “Sign In” form.

Please check and fix it.

Thanks.

This will be resolved completely in 1.0.0.4 of the Listify theme, we just need to work out what WooCommerce is doing and add some validation

Regarding ETA we don’t currently have one, but it will not be long.

I would recommend adding your email to our mailing list or follow us here on Twitter for theme updates & here on ThemeForest for our new theme releases.

Cheers! Adam

This has been fixed.

Hello,

Some questions please:

1 — Can we replace the “cover image” (big banner picture) on the listing page by a map with a location marker?

2 — What about a contact form to allow users to contact the listing owner directly? Is it available?

3 — On the listing-category pages like https://demo.astoundify.com/listify/listing-category/food/ the map always jumps in order to center the pin selected by mouseover. Can we decativate this centering / jumping? It’s not convenient if you have lots of pins nearby.

Thanks.

1. Great feature request! These are the types of feedback and ideas we are looking for, we are currently just working on the “kinks” if there are any before we start adding a ton of new features, we need to understand what customers are using Listify for and the types of features they need, if the demand is large enough we will add the feature.

I would recommend adding your email to our mailing list or follow us here on Twitter for theme updates & here on ThemeForest for our new theme releases.

2. Simply create a form using GravityForms, NinjaForms, Contact Form 7 etc, then add a text widget with the contact shortcode place in the text widget, the contact form will display on all listings and then the listing owner will be sent the messages:

See screen shot: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1657501/Screenshots/nc~mcku9v~9q.png

There is also a pop-up modal option on the listing owner widget see video:

Contact owner pop-up

3. You would need to modify the themes JS (JavaScript) in order to change the map behaviour, this would be classed as a theme customization.

Cheers! Adam

Hi Adam,

As Listify uses WP Job Manager instead of something similar, you really need to have different listing types (using different short codes) because I am not listing Jobs – I’m listing services, businesses and people. So I would like to have a Submit Service / Business / Freelance page, Submit Job page (also using WP Job Manager) and also Submit Event page (currently using The Events Calendar) – would obviously prefer to have an events system built for this them as an add on? This is one crucial issue I think needs to be addressed.

Hey James, I reached out to you on Twitter to get more detailed information, please get in touch when you can :)

Thanks! Adam

hello guys!
a very good lookiing diirectory theme indeed! some prepurchase questions here:
1. I have more than 1000 ads – does this theme provide integrated bulk import? have you tested any import plugin wth it?
2. the directory I’m building, will include ads that match several categories (some of the ads even all categories). how do I choose multple categories (your demo lets me choose just one)?
3. related to previous question: how do the amenites work? can I build a tree using “Categories” as a master level and “Amenities” as sub-categories? is it possible to filter amenities based on the chosen category?
Thank you!

1. You could use the WP All Import Pro plugin, it has been tested. Follow the steps outlined here: https://wpjobmanager.com/document/tutorial-importing-job-listings-wp-import-pro/

I will defer the questions 2. and 3. to Spencer for further follow-up and detailed reply.

Cheers! Adam

2. With WP Job Manager – Field Editor you can change the category select to support multiple, or follow the guide here to change the type of field: https://wpjobmanager.com/document/editing-job-submission-fields/

3. Amenities are a separate taxonomy from categories. Think of them like “tags” in standard WordPress posts.

You can drill down/filter certain amenities and categories. For example: https://demo.astoundify.com/listify/listing-category/food/

Spencer

Thanks Adam & Spencer!

- Is there a way to limit the locations available? Example: limit locations to and submissions to New York ( and sub areas of and Florida ( along with sub areas) only.

- is there a way to charge different fees based on listing type? Example: $10 for shop $20 for hotel

- can listing purchases be recurring subscriptions?

I’m seeing tons of replies to other people’s questions, but none to mine. Why is that?

I’ve got around 50+ questions to answer, plus emails, I must have skipped over yours sorry about that, it was not intentional.

1. You can limit the locations available, you can create your own regions using our free regions plugin. https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-job-manager-locations/

regions

2. Great feature request! These are the types of feedback and ideas we are looking for, we are currently just working on the “kinks” if there are any before we start adding a ton of new features, we need to understand what customers are using Listify for and the types of features they need, if the demand is large enough we will add the feature.

3. Listing purchases can be recurring subscriptions. You will need both WC Paid Listings and WooCommerce Subscriptions to create recurring packages, plugins sold separately, there are a number of Subscriptions plugins for WooCommerce such as this, we choose to showcase the official Subscriptions plugin in the Listify demo.

Cheers! Adam

Thank you Adam.

Great questions estudisimple, we had some similar questions.

We will definitely buy the theme.

First of all, Great Job. I can’t imagine the time I will have spent building a thing like this on my own, so, the price it’s really ridiculous. I love the design and functionality, but I have some pre-sale ( it’s gonna be a sale for sure ) question.

1. It’s possible to have a second header version with all the items in just one row? Something like this—> https://www.airbnb.es/s/Barcelona--Catalonia--ES

2. Also talking about the header, it’s possible to have a second version with a transparent header, and the text ( in one row ) just over the image or video? Won’t it look a bit more modern?—> https://www.airbnb.es/

3. Will be possible to see the info about the item on the map, instead of “on hover”, “on click” ( Also in mobile version ) ?

4. What do you think about the full width slide inside the item used as image gallery?

5. I think a full width map like this will be great for the item page—> https://www.airbnb.es/rooms/1032609

7. As you can see, I really love Airbnb design, and I ask you if would be possible to have the Listing Owner with this kind of design https://www.airbnb.es/rooms/1032609

8. Are you planning to use Google Street View inside the item? Like this—> http://javothemes.com/directory/blog/item/rhoncus/

9. And what about a Full width map Home version?—> http://javothemes.com/directory/home-map/ In the description of the theme I can see a fullwidth map with the items below, but I can’t find it live.

10. And the last one, What about Visual Composer? Will you implement it?

Sorry for all the questions, and thanks for reading them. I will love to work with this great amazing theme and again, congrats for all the work.

People, BUY IT!

Are you looking for a AirBnB clone?

Hi again,

Quick question, when creating a listing where or how do you access the ‘Open Hours’ of the business being listed?

Cheers…

I reread your question 2 times, but i’m having a hard time understanding what you mean, perhaps you could rephrase the question?

Cheers! Adam

One of your listings shows the opening hours of the business in a table on the right side. How do you create this in a listing?

You submit the hours of business on the submission form see:

hours

Submission Form: https://demo.astoundify.com/listify/submit-listing/

Can you pls. PM when the backend demo is ready, thx

Better idea, please subscribe to our mailing list once the backend demo is ready we will send out an email.

Cheers! Adam

While everyone is keeping it honest -

The simple truth is, if this doesn’t become the hands down, default directory for anyone looking to build a community style authority site using Wordpress – It’s not going to because of what it’s missing – because it ain’t missing much. (with apologies to the visual composer fans :-)

With absolutely no skin in the deal – and running a business that’s largely built around directory style sites – I can honestly say that this theme, and the very specific outside integrations – ooze such well thought out preparation and entrepreneurial insight into how real people (and the public) would actually use the end product, that it’s a joy to use. (and for $630, it would still be a steal of a deal)

In terms of features I’d personally love to see developed a bit – from lots of experience we’ve found that the forum functionality is a critical component to any niche or hyper local community “review” style site – and some tighter styling for BBpress would be a natural fit for most listify owners. Even a Marketify community we launched that failed miserably still has a really active & great looking forum that keeps folks coming back.

*it looks like we asked about that and other extensions in a previous comment above and bbpress support was removed from the file description. With a cursory look on a test install, the bbpress styling is pretty wonky) *

I hope you guys sell a zillion copies of Listify, because it’s beautiful in both form and function – and well deserved.

Is there a way to limit the size of the image people can upload to their listing? If not, when someone upload an image, is it possible to optimize it for the web? I’m worried that if I have 100s of listing and everyone upload large image size the site will load slow.

WordPress will auto resize the image on the fly when someone uploads an image.

We also recommend using one of these plugins to ensure that files load fast:

https://wordpress.org/plugins/ewww-image-optimizer/
https://wordpress.org/plugins/kraken-image-optimizer/

On our server we use Google Pagespeed so that images are optimized once again by the server.

There are many ways to improve image loading speeds.

Cheers! Adam

thank you!

Can you make this a crowdfunding site for real estate? If you want to help me create this feel free to contact me at juniorseixas1@gmail.com so I can get into details if interested. Thanks

That is just one suggestion we aren’t looking to implement into a Directory/Listing theme, but keep those suggestions coming as long as it doesn’t involve crowdfunding :)

It’s a long story, but we did have a crowdfunding plugin / theme that was sold on ThemeForest and unfortunately was a huge can of worms! It was hugely complicated to support all those different payment scenarios, payment gateways, etc, I won’t bore you with all the details.

Keeping it honest.

Cheers! Adam

Thanks for the honesty, do you still have that plugin/theme available for me to take a look and see if I can do much with it? The rest, I can hire developers to do what I want.

The theme was sold to IgnitionDeck, we are no longer the owners of that theme.

Great looking theme as always! A few pre sale questions: 1. How do the the deals and promotions work? Are they like events for the “business owner”? Can they have a description section allotted to them?

2. Can the number of deals be limited based on subscription type?

3. Can the deals be displayed on the location/area main page and sorted like the places/businesses them selves?

4. How do the social and commenting users function? Is this buddy press integration?

Please let me know

Thanks!

Awaiting answers thanks

Hey divisionalmedia, I saw your comment and will reply tomorrow, heading out for tonight, but i’ll be back at it the morning which is when I hope to reply to yours and other comments.
