Hi Cubell!
So you know I have the valenti theme (adhdshow.com)
This one is super clean and Im interested, but don’t want to break anything from my old theme.
Will my reviews carry over to this review system?
Thanks!
Jeff
Hey Jeff,
Thanks for checking out 15Zine
You’ll be happy to know that I made it a priority to make the Valenti -> 15Zine transition as smooth as a Theme -> New theme transition can be. And yes, reviews will automatically load in 15Zine’s design, and so will other data such as the photo credit lines and a few other options like that. You will have to rebuild the homepage, as 15Zine uses new code and different modules, but as you have used Valenti’s system, it’ll be a piece of cake for you to set it up. Same with categories/tags/pages.

Thanks Cubell. The million dollar question now is.. Whats gonna come with Valenti 4.0?!
No worries
Valenti 4.0 will fix some bugs, update to work with WooCommerce 2.3.x, and more goodies, full changelog will appear once it’s out
Excellent theme. I’m thinking of buying it.
For the video pop ups, can I use self hosted videos? I use the jwplayer plugin for self hosted videos. I must use self hosted to monetize them, to put them up in Youtube or Vimeo does me no good. I see it works with self hosted audio.
2. To confirm, can I have infinite loading on this category archive view? http://15zine.cubellthemes.com/category/music/rock/
3. Are reviews just regular posts or are they categorize differently?
4. If i’m using only the “visitor only rating” does the rating appear over the thumbnail when using the reviews module?
4. The ‘top reviews’ and ‘popular views’ widgets can I filter by now, week, month?
5. In the trending widget on the menu does ‘now’ means latest 1 hour, 24 hour? or what?
Hey Oso33055,
Thanks for the kind words and interest in 15Zine
1- You can enter any code you want for the video post type, and if you have a plugin that can play videos, and it gives you some type of code (shortcode maybe?), then yeah, you can paste it in and it’ll appear just like YouTube/Vimeo videos do in the demo site. The only thing is that there is no option for HTML5 Video, as I explained to WanderLusters in a previous comment here, HTML5 Video is very buggy and has licensing issues (unlike HTML5 Audio which works much better),
2- Yes, you can have numbered pagination, infinite scroll or infinite scroll with load more button on a category with the grid blog styles
3- I’m a big believer in keeping things simple and the “WordPress way”, so the review system is an option inside normal posts, 15Zine does not use any custom posts. Custom posts only lead to headaches for users in the long term (if you ever change themes, it’s a nightmare to transfer it all over).
4- What reviews module are you referring to? Because if you look at the main demo homepage, you will see that the Visitor Only Rating post in the module underneath the first grid/slider shows the current user rating score on it.
4 (you put two questions number 4)- The 15Zine Popular Views widget has options to filter by “Past 7 Days/Month/All time”. And you can set it to also filter by “views or comments”, and you can also set it to show “small or big” thumbnails, if you go on the “All widgets and modules” demo page, you will see what the big style looks like.
The 15Zine Reviews widget has options to filter by “All time/Last month/7 days/2015 only/2014 only/2013 only/2012 only/2011 only”, and it has the option to sort by “Top reviews/Latest reviews/Lowest scores”, and you can make it show “Editor scores/Reader scores”.
And of course you can set the number of posts to show in them too.
5- Yeah, “now” in trending menu means last 24 hours.
Hope you find this useful
Cubell
This is the most stylish and forward-thinking theme I have come across this year.
I know this question has been asked several times already, however, I just need a rough estimate as to when you think WooCommerce might find its way into an update.
Don’t need an exact date, more so, 2 months, 5 months, you know the deal.
Anyway, if you think it will be added within the next 2-4 months, I will be purchasing today.
Thanks for your time.
Hey Noyearslost,
Thanks so much for the kind words, I have always done my best to try to push the current standards of WordPress magazine themes forwards, so i’m really happy you feel that way about 15Zine
And WooCommerce update will happen a lot sooner than that! If you look at my previous magazine theme (Valenti) changelog you will see it took me 2 weeks to update the theme to have bbPress integration, then another 2 weeks for BuddyPress, and then finally 4 weeks for WooCommerce, but that was only 4 weeks because it was over the Christmas period. In this theme, bbPress is already done, and I am going to integrate WooCommerce first, so it shouldn’t be long
Thanks again!
Cubell
Wonderful, you have a new customer. Excellent work. You set a new standard here.
Thanks very much once more, and if you run into any niggles setting up and the documentation doesn’t have the answer, feel free to submit a ticket at http://support.cubellthemes.com
Cubell
Hello ! Great work. Can we see screenshots of the admin panel or have a demo ?
Thank you !
Hey Anthonyrouxoc,
Thanks for checking out 15Zine
Sure thing, here are two quick little screenshots of what to expect: http://15zine.cubellthemes.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/15zine_admin_panel.png and http://15zine.cubellthemes.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/15zine_admin_panel_2.png , you can see a bit of the backend for the post options too here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wcTbF5qCQls you will see that it is all neatly arranged in a single metabox with tabs for the different options
Hope this helps.
Cubell
Thank you ! Purchased
Thanks very much, I hope you enjoy using it
There is a bug with the button “views”. It doesn’t count and it’s impossible to translate it. Is it possible to hide it ?
Hey again,
The views count uses JetPack’s -> Stats module, which is a free and extremely powerful stats system, and much more accurate/powerful than anything a theme can do. Do you have it installed? If not, you can disable it from appearing in the Theme Options, in the by line option you can turn each individual part of the line (By author in Category on Date 0 Comments 0 Views) on/off.
Hope this helps.
Cubell
Such a beautiful theme. Before i purchase, can you confirm Buddypress styling is coming soon?
Hey Nhgia,
Thanks very much for the interest in 15Zine
Yes, I can confirm 100%, WooCommerce integration and BuddyPress integration will be coming in early updates of the theme. It was always the plan to integrate all 3 major plugins (WooCommerce, BuddyPress and bbPress), but to get the theme out sooner, WooCommerce and BuddyPress were left to then be included in early updates
Cubell
Great ! Just purchased it
No problem and thanks so much for the support, I hope you enjoy using it
When BuddyPress/WooCommerce are included with the theme, Themeforest will automatically increase the price of the theme (they control prices), so I’m happy you get to save a bit
Cubell
haha glad i bought today then
Haha and i’m glad you’re glad
Very nice, best wordpress magazine template Cubell, but Share icons very sucks :/
I buy, but wait for change share icons….
Hey Baddewil,
Thanks very much for the kind words
15Zine (and all my other themes) uses the official social network icons for the sharing block, and I can explain why – Despite what you see on other themes, you are not legally allowed to modify or create your own versions of the social network logos and then hack their “like count API” to show them, they are quite strict with it, just read here: http://www.facebookbrand.com and editing the colors/design of social network logos is actually copyright/trademark infringement, so I don’t want to encourage buyers of my themes to potentially be breaking the law, but of course it is your site so you have the option to install your own social sharing plugin, and I made it easy to turn 15Zine’s one off (a simple on/off option in the theme options).
I hope this makes sense and you understand why those icons are used
Cubell
Hi there,
Nice theme!
How easy would it be to integrate Adobe Typekit? i.e. is there an option to turn off default font settings?
Thanks!
Hey Ajfenwick,
Thanks so much for checking out 15zine and for choosing it
I’m not sure if you already figured it out, but apart from all Google fonts, you can easily use your own. I will write a section on this in the documentation for the next update, but until then here they are:
1- Go to Theme Options -> Typography. Then in the Headings and Body text font options select “Other Google Font” from the dropdown options. A new override option will appear.
2- Enter the font-family name of the font you want to use, in the same format as explained in the description next to the option.
3- Copy the script code that you get from Adobe, and paste it into the Theme Options -> Custom Code -> Custom Head code.
Done
This can be done with self-hosted fonts too, and instead of entering script code, you’d enter this into the Theme Options -> Custom Code -> Custom CSS box:
@font-face {
font-family: myfontfamilyname;
src: url(the_url_of_the_font.woff);
}
Hope this helps!
Cubell
Great, thanks!
No problem
Great work, GLWS
Hey Themezkitchen,
Thanks very much! And I really like your logo, cool stuff
Cubell
Awesome theme Cubell! I was going to buy Valenti last night but you treated this morning with another beautiful theme.
Bought it right away! One quick thing, it shows a notification as: “15Zine requires Cubell Themes Functionality 4.0, please delete your existing installation of Cubell Themes Functionality plugin and install the latest version in Appearance -> Install Plugins.”
When I search for the plugin it doesn’t show anything? Any solution for this?
Hey Absdaga,
Thanks so much for the interest in my themes and for choosing 15Zine
That line only appears if you have installed Valenti in the past and have the old plugin installed, you’d simply go to your plugins section, delete the old version and now in the Appearance -> Install plugins, you will see the 15Zine version
Cubell
Hey!
I activated the theme and also installed the Cubell Theme Functionality plugin, but as soon as I activated that plugin my entire blog went white screen. I wasn’t able to access the wp-admin also as a result I wasn’t able to revert back to my old theme. I had to login through FTP and rename the theme name and then everything was back to normal. I checked my server logs and it showed this error:
Fri Mar 20 20:16:39 2015 [client 182.59.216.121] PHP Fatal error: Cannot redeclare cb_125_ads_loader() (previously declared in /var/www/thrillophilia/blog/wp-content/plugins/cubell-themes-functionality/extensions/widgets/cb-125-ads-widget.php:153) in /var/www/thrillophilia/blog/wp-content/themes/ThrillB/library/widgets/cb-125-ads-widget.php on line 153
What should I do now? The theme is installed but deactivated. I’m fearing if I activate it again it will again go all white! Please revert back asap.
TIA!
Hey again,
I’m a bit confused though, did you have Valenti installed previously? If you did, all you’d do with 15Zine is install the theme, then a message will appear if you have the old Cubell themes Functionaliy pugin installed, like you saw before: “15Zine requires Cubell Themes Functionality 4.0, please delete your existing installation of Cubell Themes Functionality plugin and install the latest version in Appearance -> Install Plugins.” and if you delete the old plugin, and then activate 15Zine + plugin it will work fine.
Although I notice it says the theme you are using is called “ThrillB”, what theme is that?
Cubell
Hey hi!
The first message I dropped in here which said that “15Zine requires Cubell Themes Functionality 4.0” was on a test blog on which Valenti was installed before! But this time I uploaded the theme on my main blog and had renamed the 15Zine theme folder as ThrillB. And when I activated the cubell plugin on my main blog, it went completely white screen! What should be done now to avoid the same situation?
Ah I see, you can rename the folder with no problems, issues in themes will start if you changed the “theme name” line on the 15zine/style.css file, which I’m guessing you did. If so, you need to change it back to say 15zine, as that line is important and shouldn’t be changed. If you are trying to hide the theme name from the main style.css, that is located in 15zine/library/css/style.css. The 15zine/style.css is a special file that shouldn’t be modified
Cubell
Modern, creative and clean. Well done. GLWS
Hey Ninzio,
Thanks very much, those were the main goals for the theme from the start
Cubell
Absolutely love the new theme Cubell!
I hope you don’t mind but I have some thoughts regarding the demo site. Your ajax loader animation on the menu is static, is that by design? I feel an actual animation would look better but I assume it will be easy to change anyway. EDIT: Just noticed this is a Firefox bug/issue as the loader animation rotates when using Chrome. The ajax menu can sometimes be a bit slow to show the appropriate posts, even on a quick connection. Is there any way you can speed that up (using a cache etc)?
I still see the same issue I see on Valenti with the megamenu. Sometimes the menu/mouse/exit intent gets it wrong and when I go to click on an item in a menu listing the whole menu closes. It happens once and then seems to be Ok until I use the menu again which is enough to be annoying.
One small thing I’m not a fan of is the shading on hover of the editors picks full width slider which is removed when you hover over the forward and back buttons. I don’t think it feels/looks right but that will be an easy css tweak
. Also the byline and excepts fonts on the homepage seem a bit small for ideal readability.
On the parallax posts I have a feature request (if it’s possible) – a way of adding full width parallax images within the post body. That would look very cool.
One other feature request. I’ve seen some sites and themes have low resolution video that auto plays in the background (e.g. theblondeabroad.com and paypal.com). Would there be any way you could implement something like that?
We are seriously thinking of migrating over so just trying to figure out how things would work/look. Heck we will probably just buy it anyway as you’re such an awesome dev!
Hey
Thanks so much for dropping by and checking out 15Zine, really nice to hear from you!
Of course I don’t mind, everyone has their own opinion, and I love to hear all criticism, as sometimes I agree and integrate it!
Ah! Thanks so much for reporting that! That was because I had forgotten to add the Firefox CSS prefix to that animation! I have added it now and it will work everywhere, it will be included in the next update, but until then if anyone else sees this and wants to fix it, simply copy/paste the following code into your Theme Options -> Custom Code -> Custom CSS box:
.cb-pre-load:before { -moz-animation: cb-spinner 4s infinite linear; }
And I will definitely look into caching the megamenus, I left it that way because some people may start complaining “I published post and it doesn’t appear on the menu for a few minutes!”. However, I already have the trending menu results cached for a few minutes, can you tell me if those are faster than the other ajax menus? If so, I will implement the same technique across.
Regarding the hover mouse issue, the theme uses the popular HoverIntent to detect hover intents, so if there is a bug, it’d be from that script i’m afraid! Can you open a ticket at http://support.cubellthemes.com and leave me screenshots or the exact steps to recreate it, i’ll try investigating it.
And ah yes, the big slider hover is a very simple CSS hover line, which can easily be changed. The CSS in 15Zine is considerably easier to edit than Valenti (even though Valenti was easy already), so it’s a piece of cake to do, and you know I can help if needed
And I did think about an option for adding parallax embeds inside a post, the only reason I didn’t do it, is because the only solutions I came up with would be to have to make the user either enter a special class to the image settings, or something crap like a shortcode, and neither are good, as I want it to be as simple as possible, so I left it this way for now.
Currently, you simply embed an image in your post, and if you set the sidebar option to be off for the post, you will get extra options appearing, and one of them is if you want to turn embeds into full-screen images, all you do is set it to “on”, and all the magic happens in the background/automatically.
I also did consider HTML5 Video option, as I added a self-hosted audio option (HTML5 Audio), but the problem is that HTML5 Video is not good yet. It is extremely buggy, requires lots of different formats to be able to work on all browsers and on top of that has inherited troubling licensing issues for mp4 videos used. You can read all about it here: http://diveintohtml5.info/video.html
And thanks so much for the kind words and support again. Your site in Valenti was one of my favorite implementations of Valenti, and the fact that you got recognized by National Geographic UK says it all about how well you did it all
15Zine does allow for a smooth transition from Valenti, so if you do decide to give it a go, it should be quite straight forward as you are already a Valenti expert
All the best and thanks so much again! I really appreciate it.
Cubell
Fantastically comprehensive reply as always!
The megamenu animation in Firefox now seem to cause the menu items to flash into view rather than fade. Maybe a Firefox rendering issue due to the overlayed css animation as it didn’t do that before you included the fix.
The trending menu items do seem to load fractionally faster but it is very slight. It would be great if you could work all the menus so the items load instantly on hover and then do away with the loader animation if that’s possible.
Will log a support request regarding hoverintent and try to include a video or animated gif showing the issue. Will also have a read about the HTML5 video stuff, thanks for the link.
Shortcode or image class for parallax images sounds good to me
, but I understand why you would prefer a cleaner implementation. Is it something you might look at for a future version as I think this could be a killer feature?
Thanks again buddy.
No worries, you know I help where I can
And I see the flash, it’s definitely a CSS animation quirk, and I’m going to start exploring it now, hopefully I’ll be able to fix it quickly, thanks again for letting me know about this!
I actually thought of a sweet solution that may make it load a bit faster, I need to test it, but I’m sure I’ll be able to improve it. On my connection it’s almost instant transitions between the submenus, so it’s hard for me to know how it will work around the world, but I think I can improve it even more, i’ll let you know if/when I do.
Thanks for the hoverIntent report, look forward to investigating that!
And I think the current best solution to add parallax embeds inside a post content area would be to give the image a class when using the Add Media button, I will explore this after I complete the WooCommerce/BuddyPress updates, but I think there’s a good chance I’ll be able to add an option for that (although obviously I can’t promise it 100% yet!)
Thanks again
Cheers Cubell
No problem
As a researcher I want to sale my research reports online [in shape of PDF files]. I do not know which template or website theme I should use. I am not a technical person and my requirements are very basic:
1: A theme with maximum Customization ability. [Header styles, Layout designs, footer etc]
2: SEO friendly and as per the google standards.
3: Membership, Payment and Signup Function [Same like themeforest where a member can sign-in and see his purchased items, download them etc.
4: Subscriber form [Customize-able for newsletters and blog posts]
5: Customize-able web blog where I can customize it like NY times Blog and keep it a bit different than other website pages…
Hi Usman134,
Thanks for checking out 15Zine.
1- 15Zine is very flexible, you can see some of the options using the “demo styler” tool, which appears on the right of the screen on the demo site. The homepage is very easy to setup, check out this video to see how you would build one (no code or shortcodes needed!): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=he4wA2l0a6o
And the posts are also a breeze to setup, watch this video to get an idea how to set a featured image style (a 15zine exclusive system, in normal themes, you are only able to output the featured image inside a post in one way): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wcTbF5qCQls
2- The theme is 100% valid HTML5, if you go here, you will see it has zero validation errors: http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=http%3A%2F%2F15zine.cubellthemes.com%2F&charset=%28detect+automatically%29&doctype=Inline&ss=1&outline=1&group=0&user-agent=W3C_Validator%2F1.3+http%3A%2F%2Fvalidator.w3.org%2Fservices
And I have a lot of experience with SEO, I have ranked lots of sites to number one on Google for the relevant keyword, so the theme is written following best SEO practises, if you set the site up well, the internal SEO juice will flow really nicely. The only thing I will say that the effect a theme can have on SEO is quite minimal. The most important thing for ranking is still having multiple high quality/relevant backlinks and that your site’s actual content is unique, high quality and well-written for SEO (intelligent placement of keywords).
Check this page out for some more information on the subject: http://moz.com/learn/seo/on-page-factors
3- The theme doesn’t have any paid membership system, as WordPress doesn’t have anything like this. You would deifnitley need to get a plugin to help you achieve this, and depending on how the plugin works/integrates, you may need to hire a developer to help you integrate it. I’d recommend looking on http://studio.envato.com for one, as that site is run by the same people who run Themeforest.
4- There are loads of plugins out there for this, I’d recommend looking on CodeCanyon for a premium one: http://codecanyon.net/category/wordpress/newsletters
5- With the featured image styles, ability to give each post its own unique font, you can achieve story-like results, such as this post: http://15zine.cubellthemes.com/design/post-with-unique-fonts/ Check out the “features” dropdown in the main menu for lots of different examples of post, and you’ll quickly be able to see how flexible and powerful 15zine is.
I hope this helps
Cubell
Great work done. Congrats and GLWS
Hey Joomlastars,
Thank you very much
Cubell
I’m completely in love with this theme and just had to buy it!!! I’ve used “Valenti” for a previous project and was completely astounded by the level of support you provided – so I didn’t hesitate about buying “15Zine”.
Looking forward to WooCommerce and BuddyPress update
Any ETA on when this will be available?
Hi Carrie,
Long time no speak
Hope you are really well! And thanks so much for getting 15Zine, I hope you enjoy using it!
I can’t promise a set ETA at this moment, but just like it happened in Valenti, they will come very early on
Thanks again!
Cubell
Awesome Stuff Bro! Any way to get rid of the thick black boarders next two titles/subtitles ect.?
Hey HeedMag,
Thanks for checking out 15Zine
Yeah, that is done via CSS, so it’s really easy to remove. If you choose 15Zine, you can open a ticket at http://support.cubellthemes.com and I can give you the CSS to turn them off, you would simply copy/paste it into the Theme Options -> Custom Code -> Custom CSS box.
Cubell
Thanks for the prompt reply Cubell!
Just one more question. Is there only one setting for the homepage logo placement? Can we do center or right placements for it? I hope to purchase it soon. Somehow I feel I’ll have the same template as 5k other people when the sales are all said and done ;-/
No worries, happy to help!
There is an option to set the logo either on the left or centered. Or you could also simply not use the main logo, and set a logo to the main navigation menu and set the option for that logo to “always be visible”. And 5k isn’t that much when you talk internet terms! If you think about Avada theme having sold 100k+ licenses, yet I don’t think i’ve ever run into a real website using it
Thanks again for the interest!
Cubell
Great theme! Good luck wish sales
Hey Fieldthemes,
Thanks bud, much appreciated
Cubell
One of the best magazine themes I’ve seen in a long time. The only thing missing is Woocommerce support, but I’m still gonna buy it anyway.
Hey Annikabee,
Thanks for that, really appreciated
Really glad you like it!
WooCommerce will definitely be supported and integrated, but as it is an extra from the core theme requirements, I decided to release the theme with bbPress compatibility to start with, and add WooCommerce + BuddyPress in upcoming updates, won’t be long either
Cubell
Thanks for replying! Quick question: does this support the js composer/visual composer plugin?
It’s no problem, happy to help!
15Zine hasn’t been tested with Visual Composer plugin yet, but the theme is written following WordPress best standards, so should work fine, just like in my previous magazine theme (Valenti). If you do choose 15Zine for your project and you run into any niggles with Visual Composer, you can certainly report it in the support system: http://support.cubellthemes.com and I would do my best to help sort it out.
Cubell
Thank you!
No problem
After playing around with this theme for the last few hours I’m highly impressed with the quality and ease of customization. However, there’s one menu-related change/option I would like to see (if you’re open to suggestions for future updates): an option to move the search and login feature to the main menu for people (like me) who won’t be using the top menu. And perhaps also a few different header/menu variations beyond what’s included. I understand that due to time it’s not possible for all suggestion to be implemented, but I thought I would throw that out there anyway. Thanks for reading. LOVE this theme so far!
Hey again,
That’s so nice to hear! Really happy you’re enjoying it. I always make a big effort to make the backend experience of my themes as logical and easy to use as possible, no coding or shortcodes required, just simple options in the relevant places.
And I’m always open to suggestions! And I think that’s a great one, I’ll definitely try to add an option to be able to choose which menu to put the login/search buttons in. I’ll probably add an option to only use the icons too, so you could have all 3 at the right side of the main nav menu if you wanted (search icon, login icon, trending icon).
And what kind of header variation are you thinking of? Because you can pretty much set it up any way you want – logo left/center, dark/light, or no logo at all and show a logo in the navigation menu only, top menu on/off, etc.
Thanks again!
Cubell
PoooOoow! Cubell strikes again! Brillant one! CONGRATS!
However, the online doc link drives to a 403 error page forbidden
Cheers!
Bookmarked!
Hey Westkast,
Haha thanks so much bud, really appreciate the kind words
Ahhh thanks for pointing that out! I forgot to upload the final documentation files to be available online, but I will definitely do it soon (by tomorrow in any case). However, the documentation is included with the theme files already
Thanks again!
