You can restrict certain areas of the site like ( member groups, member directory, profile page, private messages ) for each membership level in part. So basically you should be able to achieve what you’re looking for.

For profile photo on register page you can use the following plugin: https://wordpress.org/plugins/buddypress-upload-avatar-ajax/
To change the validation messages of the register page you’ll have to tap into the translation of the buddypress plugin. You can do so with the help of this plugin: https://wordpress.org/plugins/loco-translate/

Yes you can achieve all of this, you can define as many profile fields as you need which can be later used for registration and for members search. Also, you can create membership levels and restrict certain pages or areas of the site.

I’m having thousands of bots sign up to my website, create groups, leave, and then create users.. It’s giving me 503, 508, 405 errors ALL day long! I’ve deleted 1800 users MANUALLY via myphp.. and ALL user groups however they’re still coming, how can I disable this!

The performance hit happens only when you’re using a big amount of plugins on a low quality hosting plan. The theme itself doesn’t have any performance issues.

If you’re talking about the members search then that’s very easy, you can define as many profile fields as you need and later you can select which of them you want to appear into the search form.
