2 Questions:

1. I’m having an issue with the menu. The menu options are not lining up properly. They are off centered when at the top of the page. Once you start to scroll the menu returns to the correct formatting. Is there a fix for this?

2. I’d like to flip the larger image and 2 smaller images in every other post on the homepage. Is there a way to do this?

Thank you!

The output is saying it is set to the columns mega menu, very odd! Can you try re-adding new menu items and see if that fixes it. I will add some extra code in a future update so users who unintentionally have empty menus set to a megamenu don’t show that.

Hm, wow yea for some reason deleting the whole menu and redoing it did the trick. Works just fine now. Thank you!

Nice one! Happy it helped :)

Curious when the next release of the theme is going to be? So excited to see what changes and additions you’ve made. Plus, can’t wait to share the site we’ve created with it.

oh and I wanted to ask – how are recent posts gathered? by category or by tag? or by both? Wanted to know if that can be modified to pull the last x number of posts rather than from all time. This is totally a random question, but I took down 20 out of 23 categories, so wanted to know.

One last thing (sorry) – the “embed bigger than content area” function for images doesn’t work on the 1020px site width style. Can it be made to work?

Hey again,

v2.0 has already been released, have you updated to it yet? Instructions on how to update can be found int he documentation. And for a full changelog you can scroll to the bottom of the theme’s description page here on Themeforest. I hope you enjoy it :)

Recent posts from where are you referring to? Because homepage modules have the option for you to chose whether to show posts from a specific or multiple categories/tags or by specific post names. You can also set them to show “latest/oldest/random” order. And in widgets you can filter down by categories too and in some of them change the order.

And regarding the embed, are you saying that if you leave your post the same, but use the default site width, it works differently? Can you share the URL of the post to take a look?

Hi again! Any post block in a widget that has a hover effect requires 2 taps to load on a mobile device. Is there any way to fix this? I only want 1 tap required on mobile to load the page.

You can see this in your demo site on an iPhone if you go down to the “Fashion & Art” section and tap the image of the girl with sunglasses above “Features Image No Crop”. The first tap just loads a color on iPhone, and the second tap goes to the target page.

I tried this solution, but it doesn’t seem to help: http://stackoverflow.com/a/3426201

Thanks so much for the video, really helpful to understand! But I tested it again on an iPhone 4 and 5 (don’t have a 6 on me at the moment) and they both only need one tap! Really, really odd. However, I changed the CSS on the demo site so mobile devices tap don’t cause the color to appear, as I know at one point, having a hover property led to double clicks (touch screens trying to emulate hover). But I was sure they got rid of that a long time ago! If it works, I will share the CSS with you, as in actual fact, the hover isn’t really needed on mobile devices anyway. Do let me know :)

Cubell

Yes, that’s fixed it! Would appreciate the CSS :) Thanks!

Very interesting! In that case add this CSS:

.cb-img-fw a:hover img { opacity:1; } @media only screen and (min-width: 768px) { .cb-img-fw a:hover img { opacity: 0.4; } }

Should do the trick and from the next update, it will be like this in the code itself :)

Cubell

Hello. Is there any way to move the author profile boxes to the TOP of the staff page, above the content? Instead of below since our website description/content is pretty long.

Hey Devotionmagazine,

Thanks for choosing 15Zine :)

The only way is to edit the relevant page template file. In it you will find two lines that you need to flip around. One contains “the_content()” and the other “cb_author_list()” simply flip those entire lines around and that will happen.

Hope this helps.

Cubell

Hi, Cubell

I’ll hold on commenting on 15Zine for another time except that no matter what; I don’t know if any author here can match your very friendly – helpfull approach to anyone needs help. My questions: 1) Featured images on Grids even on Posts.. They’re cropped by WP / 15Zine that I loose very important info (text titles) on images..

I have tried to upload several image sizes to no avail.. As per my research; there’s a “Soft Crop” method (The entire image is preserved but just in a different size.) WHICH I think will solve my problem.. Is this the way to go?

OR, may be you could tell the specific sizes for a solution?

FYI, my original image sizes (mostly) is 720×576 but I can easily resize it w/ Photosop.. You can kindly see what’s happening at fikriminincegolu.com

2) As you’ll see from the site; even after (1) is solved, the titles will still be looking bad or overlapping with the text on grid images.. Is there a current / planned solution for (may be) “placing” the titles as necessary?

Thank you very much for yr time

Hi again,

No worries, I do my best to help.

1- I do understand what you mean, but a theme can’t (shouldn’t) offer the same options that creating an image in Photoshop can, as loading multiple fonts with unique styling and effects (like drop shadows) turns to bloatware and would be bad for performance. Which is why the best and only real solution if you want text over images is to create your own images as you have already, but only use specific proportioned modules. For example, only use rectangle images. A few blog styles use a rectangle, and so do the megamenus. The grid of 3 uses squares, so maybe it’s best to replace it with the big slider of 1, that is also a rectangle.

2- I’d need to see this in action to be able to say if there is anything that can be done, as the theme uses FitVids script to make videos responsive, and that scripts controls it completely.

Cubell

Dear Cubell, Thanks very much for your reply and my apologies for this late reply. But I prefer to do my part instead of asking a q and just waiting for an answer. So I did my homework.. Your suggestion to use a big slider of 1 (w/ rectangular image) seem logical and the sample website I gave you uses the same approach..

But, on that site and in almost all other rmajor sites in my sector use a slider WITH NAV BUTTONS (mostly the number buttons 1,2,3..) w?th controlling slider ON HOVER .. (I, too, personally dont like to wait for auto-slide time and dont like to click arrows for slider and agree with their on-hover-slide- approach as a user)

Now for solution.. 1. Theme already uses “Flexslider” by woo themes” as you state.. 2. After searching for possible solutions using Flexslider I have found this (smart) solution: http://jsfiddle.net/lotusgodkk/n9JUc/48/

Now, following your coding principals, as to NOT BLOAT the theme w plugins as much as possible and NOT to replicate existing code.. How can I incorporate this solution to 15Zine until you perhaps decide to make this very nice feature available? If you guide me where- how to tweak the code, I will do what’s necessary on my part.. Thank you in advance..

PS for the youtube video part of my question, I will reproduce a sample page on the live site for you to see what’s going on. Asap and come back on that..

Hey again,

It’s no problem :)

Regarding Flexslider, the way to add those dots is to modify the main Javascript file that loads the slider code, however, you would then need to edit (add) CSS to make them appear in the right location, the way you want them to look and not overlap the titles area, and for a customization of that level you would need to hire a developer to help you out with it, and I’d recommend looking for one on http://studio.envato.com which is run by the same people who run Themeforest.

For the YouTube, sure thing, let me know and I’ll check it out.

Hi I bought your theme, I’m installing it, I ‘m on the first step, I install Force Regenerate Thumbnails module, I launch the process for resizing and the progress bar stay at 0% and nothing happen… can you help me please, my website is on wordpress 4.2.4 thanks

or do you have another plugin to advise me instead of this one?

Hey Mvacelet,

Thanks for choosing 15Zine, I hope you enjoy using it.

I’m afraid that isn’t a theme issue, it would be something between the regenerate plugin and your hosting’s server. It sounds like a permissions issue. I’d recommend searching for another “thumbnail regenerate” free plugin and trying it, there are lots to choose from. If none work, then you should contact your hosting to help you get your permissions fixed/tweaked.

Hope this helps.

Cubell

Hello, thank you for all your help so far. Sorry but I have two more questions if that’s ok:

1. The next page/ pagination function on the homepage isn’t working. Although I selected infinite scroll from the theme options, I guess this was overridden by me creating a custom home page with the 15Zine Homepage Drag & Drop Builder. Is there anyway to get the next set of posts loading from the homepage?

2. Is there anyway to make all thumbnails auto expand the set size of containers and slideshows as I find there are big gaps underneath some thumbnails/ slideshows if I don’t choose images that are long enough.

Thank you!

P.S. here is my website for reference: http://www.screenradar.com/

Hey again,

It’s no problem :)

1- The Theme Options -> Homepage only applies to Homepages that use WordPress default latest post style homepage. If you set a page as a front page, then that is different and the settings are inside the homepage builder options only. And currently there isn’t an infinite scroll option for the pagebuilder yet. Pagination in WordPress is fickle and on a page as a front page it doesn’t work as it should (and how it works on other pages, such as categories/tags/latest post homepage/etc), but I will hopefully be able to add that option in a future update.

2- Are you referring to images in sliders? If so, in v2 update (released yesterday), there is new code to help with that. To update to the latest update, check these steps out: docs.cubellthemes.com/15zine/#!/updating_theme

Hope this helps.

Hi there!! Just purchased your beautiful theme (already own NESS), and I would love to ask several questions to ease my beginning :)))

My site is – http://v2.saboresdeisrael.com.br

1. I have added items to the menu, and at a moment the JS of the menu (and header) stopped working. I would love to know why. (you can see it in the link I added) 2. I would love to have a blog inside my site. My site would exist out of Recipes, Shop, pages, reviews and a blog. I setted a Blog page in the admin, but I think I do not understand how to make a unique posts type for this section. I searched a little and saw that I need to use a custom post type. Than I saw your custom types and did not get the difference between them. Can you share with me some words, or maybe got some manual regarding it?

Thank you, and again thanks for this wonderful theme!! :))

Sure thing! As your site is recipe based, I think the easiest way is indeed to create a category for blog (as you have done already) and then you can easily link to it from anywhere and you can customize the category with the theme’s category settings too, to make it extra special (such as different background, blog style, infinite scroll options, etc).

And custom post types is quite a deep area of WordPress, and I would highly recommend searching Google for articles on them. However, if you want my personal opinion, unless your site is going to have lots of very different styles of posts that need to be in different sections, then I wouldn’t use them. If your site is only going to have recipe posts and blog posts, I’d recommend you just use the normal posts, as they are essentially the same as custom posts, but they don’t depend on a plugin to exist on your site. And if you need to only look at blog posts for example, you can go to all posts and use the filter options for that.

Hope this helps :)

Cubell

Cubel, Thanks! But does exists some documentation regarding the custom post types you have in your theme? Another issue. I have encountered a problem with the web-Mobile version of the carousel. See this video: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BzkimjiwZLZuOERuMUtReFZLLWc/view?usp=sharing

No worries! The theme doesn’t use/need/create any custom post types, so the only thing in the documentation is how to integrate your own custom posts into the theme.

And thanks for the useful video to explain the issue. And another user reported the same thing, and I investigated it deeply, and it turned out to be a quirk between Flexslider (the slider the theme uses) and older phones hardware/memory, as that slider uses multiple big images that to fit on a phone are resized via CSS, when you demand too much from it, by unnatural scrolling it causes the phone’s Javascript to halt it from running if there is too much demand. On an iPhone 5s, 6 for example, that doesn’t happen at all. And I’m afraid there isn’t anything I or the theme can do about that. I will do further research to see if there is a solution for it though!

Cubell

Hello, is there anyway to reduce the loading time of your official nextpage function for post pagination? Can it be made more seamless more like a slideshow instead of a loading function? Thanks Cubell

Hey again,

Thanks very much for choosing 15Zine, I hope yo enjoy using it :)

The WordPress pagination means they are normal links, so when you click one, the page essentially loads again (but with the content of the next page). This is good as a slider or ajax effect won’t be tracked by Analytics, so your pageviews may not be completely accurate. However, if you’d like slideshow way, I recommend getting a premium slider to do that, as they work really well and can do that and much more. I’d recommend looking on CodeCanyon for them, here is the link to the WordPress slider section: http://codecanyon.net/category/wordpress/interface-elements/sliders

Hope this helps.

Hey Autoimhealthy,

Thanks for choosing 15Zine. Did you try disabling all plugins to ensure one of them is not causing conflicts? If so, and it didn’t help, share your URL to take a look.

Cubell

Hi

You guys at Cubell are doing a great job, and this theme might be just what i’m looking for :).

I have two pre-purchase questions, tha I hope you can answer for me:

1) Is it possible to add sign up through fx Facebook, or can this functionality possibly be added with a third party plugin?

2) Is there a build in “like” function that can be displayed in the By Line?

Thanks

Niels

Hey Niels,

Thanks for checking out 15Zine :)

1- Sure can, but you are correct, you need a plugin for it. The theme uses Login With Ajax, and this plugin:

https://wordpress.org/plugins/wordpress-social-login/

Is compatible with it. And once installed and setup, it automatically adds the social login icons on the login/register modal you see on the theme demo site. That is the only one I have tested, but I’m sure you could probably use any free or paid plugin for the same thing and it should work well. As the login/register with ajax modal you see on the theme demo site is actually the core WordPress login/register functionality, so any plugin that hooks on to WordPress login/register code will work with it.

2- There isn’t a like system in the theme, however, if you look at my Ness theme here, you will see I created a like system over there. And I am considering porting the functionality over to 15Zine in a future update too, but obviously designed 15Zine-style.

Hope this helps.

Cubell

Cool :). Your Ness theme is also one of the themes I’m considering, and I really like the very elegant like feature of that theme. So you’ve got my full support, if you wan’t to use the same feature in 15zine :).

/Niels

That’s really nice to hear :) And thanks for the suggestion, I can’t promise it, but I am definitely going to try to port it over, and as long as I can make it look good in 15Zine, I will add it in an upcoming update :)

Cubell

Hi, I still waiting for answer on your support site.

Hi there,

I had a look and all your tickets were answered earlier today. I hope they helped.

Cubell

Thanks Cubell. Most question has been solved but There is one more left that still has a problem and your help.

Sure thing, I’m going through tickets now so will try to get to yours.

Cubell

This theme is really cool & planning to implement on my site Currently I am using a similar theme, configured by techies. Anybody can guess which theme is how can I shift to above theme? http://www.guidddoo.com. I am looking for better navigation for users. Is this possible in this theme? .

Hey Thejombie,

Thanks for the interest and kind words about 15Zine.

I tried to had a look at your guiddoo.com site, but I couldn’t see your existing site as it sends a “webpage not found” error, are you sure that is the correct url?

Cubell

hi guys i cant seem to get a specific sidebar to show in a page – ie my latest news page i cant seem to show the latest news sidebar thats been created in widgets

this is the link – http://muzikamagazine.co.uk/category/reviews/music/ – all subpages are set to megamenu as is the reviews page – any ideas?

aha sussed it :)

Nice one, happy you got it sorted :)

Hi there,

Just bought the theme and have the majority of the site laid out

Is it possible have the banner not be a blog post but a picture

Also is it possible to remove the text/ title over the blog posts so that it can just be the images?

Lastly is it possible to not make the blog posts turn dark when the mouse hovers over it?

Thanks so much for the help If you could solve this for me right away i’d be very appreciate

Also ive been reading all the threads and seen similar questions and answers I’ve applied every single custom code you’ve mentioned on this thread and they do nothing…..

Warm Regards,

Phil

Hi there ? Any response available?

Hey Phil,

Thanks for choosing 15Zine, I hope you’re enjoying using it :)

Can you elaborate what you mean by have the banner no be blog post. What banner are you referring to? Same with the text, are you referring to the grids/sliders?

I am about to launch v2 of 15Zine and I have added an option to control the effect on grids/sliders better :)

I hope this helps.

Cubell

Prepurchase question: if I have a bunch of reviews created using another theme, how difficult would it be to “port” them over to your theme? Please say it would be easy as pie. I really like your theme, and the only thing stopping me is having to redo posts.

Hey Bentspud,

Thanks for the interest in 15Zine :)

I’m afraid to say that it isn’t easy as pie at all! Well, it is easy, but depending on your site size it can be time consuming. I wrote a response to another user about this, so I’ll copy/paste for you as it explains it all:

I’m afraid that moving from any theme with review system -> Another theme with review system will always be a bit of a pain.

All review systems are custom built by the theme authors, meaning they all work differently and use their own outputted HTML structure with special classes and IDs (names), so the only way to change from one to another is to manually move over the data into your new theme’s review system on a per-post basis. It is definitely quite annoying, but as it isn’t a WordPress core feature, there isn’t much you can do to get around this.

The only thing I can say is that if I create more future magazine themes, the review system should transfer seamlessly. If you had used my Valenti theme in the past and then moved to 15Zine, the reviews would automatically load in the new theme. And this is because I created the review system so I can make it compatible with my own future themes.

I hope this makes sense and helps!

Cubell

Thanks for responding so quickly. I have a big decision to make… Hmmm…

It’s no problem, I hope the info is useful. And best of luck with your site, whatever you decide to do :)

Hello Cubell, Really great work on this theme ! I’m considering buying it but I have a little question before that : I actually have a wordpress website with a lot of article using a review system integrated inside (it is the Hickory Theme : http://themeforest.net/item/hickory-a-wordpress-magazine-theme/5437524 ). Is there any way not to loose all these ratings during the theme changing ? Thanks. User21

Hey User21,

Thanks for the kind words and interest in 15Zine :)

Hello and thank you for your reply. Honestly I suspected it but I had to ask the question :) I have a few quick questions : What are the loading performances of this theme ? Is it possible to choose the article that appear in the first slider ? And thus to exclude them so they do not appear in duplicate on the home page ?

Thanks. user21

Hey again,

No worries, happy to help! And the theme performs really well, and the truth is the biggest impact on performance is actually how many images you have and how optimized they are. To optimize images you would ideally open them in a program like Photoshop and use the “Save for web” option and set quality to around 70-80. The file size will be much, much smaller and quality look almost identical. I did this to all the images used on the demo site and with the help of a caching plugin (I recommend w3 total cache), the theme demo site runs really fast, even though it has tons of images of all sizes on each page.

And if you use the default latest blog posts style homepage, here is an example of this: http://15zine.cubellthemes.com/latest-posts-homepage/ You can set a feature block above (can be slider/grid) and then a blog style for the posts below, and you can enable the offset option, meaning the posts that appear in the slider will not appear again below.

If you build a homepage using the pagebuilder, then you can set each module you add to show posts from specific “tags/category/post names”, so if you set it up properly, you shouldn’t have duplicates. Although you can also set an offset in modules if you want to show posts from the same category across multiple different modules with no duplicates :)

I hope this helps.

Cubell

Hi does this theme support subtitles under the main titles for each post? Great looking theme

Also, will you consider adding a feature such as the minute reading time? E.g 5 minute read time next to the date and author like i’ve seen on other themes?

one more cheeky request: any chance in having a subscribe bar widget added in the next version? I’ll definitely be buying this theme for my magazine – amazing work.

Hey Romashka88,

Thanks for the kind words and for choosing 15Zine :)

In v2 there is a new filter that will output right after the main title inside a post, so you can use a plugin such as: https://wordpress.org/plugins/secondary-title/

And if you are using the child-theme (everyone should really be using the child-theme), you can add this to your child’s functions.php:

function my_secondary_title(){ get_secondary_title(); } add_filter( ‘cb_after_post_h1’ , ‘my_secondary_title’ );

And whatever you set as the secondary title inside each post will automatically output after the h1 :)

In my Ness theme I added a progress bar to show users the progress, I may look into it and see if I can port a more minimalist version of that feature to 15Zine.

And for the subscribe widget, that type of functionality should definitely be outside of a theme, as if the theme creates it and you ever decide to change to another theme, you will lose all the functionality and all the data/emails saved, not good! I recommend looking for a good plugin for that, there are lots of free/paid ones around :)

Hope this helps.

Cubell

I love this theme but I was wondering if there is any way to do color-coded categories like you see in the Voice theme (http://demo.mekshq.com/voice/) or any plans to implement it.

Hey Dscosson,

And I love that you love it :)

The theme does use a color for each category for things like the megamenu and post image effects, however, 15Zine was designed to be a minimalist magazine design, and having too many colors on the screen at the same time wasn’t really something I wanted. If you need something that pushes individual category colors more, you should take a look at my other magazine theme (Valenti) which was designed to really push colors everywhere :)

Cubell

Hi again Cubell! I have just found out that some of the posts (don’t know how many exactly yet, found two so far), are shown wrong, e.g. this one: http://dorota.in/jak-ugotowac-kukurydze/ This post has not been edited manually, looks this way after switching from old theme to 15zine. The only thing that has been done was bulk editing custom fields that switched it to overlay featured image with video play button.

Could you please advise what might be the reason it doesn’t display properly? I have already tried changing some options, switching them, restoring to previous version. None of them working. I am afraid many other posts might have been broken this way.

Found it and fixed it. Looks like a couple of subcategories were somehow orphaned so I was right the reason was lying somewhere there :). Once I assigned them back to their parent categories, all the messy posts started to be displayed back properly.

HOWEVER you are right about the main javascript. It doeasn’t load and it causes some other issues (e.g. lightbox not working). Please assist with this one :).

Restored W3 Total Cache settings to default and the main javascript’s fine now. Problem solved :).

Great to hear :)
