Download this file: http://drops.laborator.co/19OnT+ and replace it in this directory (of the theme): kalium/inc/

Then go to edit item page, in Columned tab you will see this box (and check it):

Thanks for reaching out! Upon checking, it seems that the video is auto-playing as expected once you first click on it. Regarding the grey bars, you may try out the following code to your Laborator -> Theme Options -> Theme Styling -> Custom CSS field:

1. Thanks for the fix but it’s not exactly what I need since I will have other videos that are not a solid background colour. This one is just an example. The other videos might have graphics and things that need to go right to the edge of the frame, so changing the colour of the bars won’t work.

Is there a way to make the entire VIDEO itself fill the space with no bars?

2. Is there a way to make the video autoplay like a .gif does either on page load or once the .mp4 file loads? WITHOUT the user having to click? I want to simulate a .gif as much as I can.

Thanks for your response! It seems that you are using an older version (1.8.7.1) of our theme and the latest version that we just launched is 1.8.9 (it may take some hours until Envato approves this update).

The easiest way to update our themes is if you use Envato Toolkit. On this link How to update Themes and Plugins you can learn this easy step-by-step procedure

Important: Please don’t forget to go to Appearance > Install Plugins to update all your premium plugins to the latest version that we support.

Thanks for the quick reply! I’m completely lost on what to do next….. I asked my web host to increase some of the PHP limits for me, but then I received this answer: “PHP memory limit in the starter package is 512MB. The rest of the settings cannot be changed unfortunately.” and he said there’s nothing they can do about it. What do I do? I reeeeally wanted the plugin for my front page.

My current PHP configuration limits are:

Why you can’t update your theme please?

The easiest way to update our themes is if you use Envato Toolkit. On this link How to update Themes and Plugins you can learn this easy step-by-step procedure

Important: After you update the theme please don’t forget to go to Appearance > Install Plugins to update all your premium plugins to the latest version that we support.

P.S: The latest update probably fixes your issue, but otherwise to fix your issue, just go to assets/js/ and replace the file kalium-custom.min.js with this new one http://drops.laborator.co/15RZy

yep, that’s what I did – over and over again. It worked perfectly for my local installation. When I wanted to update live (API key and user name provided), I went to the “Themes” tab in the Envato Toolkit. There, the iframe for the changes was plain empty. Nevertheless, I clicked “update automatically”. This I repeated multiple times yesterday and the day before.

Next, it says “Downloading upgrade package from the Envato API…” for quite some time (sometimes hours, really). After that, if I’m lucky, a message displays: “Are you sure you want to do that?”. Yes, I am. By clicking “yes”, I think it took me back to the Toolkit. On other occasions (e.g. right now), it says “download failed – forbidden”. Sometimes, the “Themes” was gone then.

According to my FTP client, there’s 24.5 GB free space at my hosting service.

well, steps 1-4 succeed… thanks a lot! But… (you might have guessed it): The update doesn’t work. I tried two times. I stopped and logged out after about 25min. Next I gave it 15min. The circle kept a-spinning. It still is version 1.8.7.1.

Re: Restoring the old WordPress core:

I tried that again before failing at the Kalium update. It always stops while unpackaging the WP core backup (done with UpdraftPlus).

Just noticed it’s not only possible to update Kalium from within the Envato Market plugin (which I did before, see above), but also now from the Themes Update page – like with other themes. I’m trying this right now.

update: It didn’t work this way either. WP went into maintenance mode, started update, and came back from maintenance mode. Tried this two times. Failed both times.

I will try a complete restore procedure again now. If this doesn’t work I’m going to import a backup into a local system which I’m setting up right from scratch (incl. updated Kalium). If this works I will run an import for the live system as well.

Other ideas?

Hi Wolfgang,

You can also manually update your theme, if your server has problems to update your theme from the plugins.

To update Kalium manually just go to your Downloads tab on themeforest > go to our item and click Download > then go to your downloads folder and unzip our theme > open folder that you unzipped > unzip kalium.zip > open kalium folder that you unzipped and copy all of it’s content > then go to your wordpress files > wp-conent >themes > kalium and paste and replace all the files that you copy-ed earlier.

phew. The chaos is over.

After waiting for a few hours I tried again to update to Kalium 1.8.8.1 via the Envato Market plugin. This time it worked. YESSS.

And I’m glad to see that even with WP4.5 all images are back to normal now.

If you want to be informed when we release a new update to our theme, please don’t forget to enable this option:

so when the update it’s ready you will receive an email if you have enabled “Get notified by email if this item is updated” from your Downloads tab.

Then you can update your theme through Envato Toolkit Plugin.

You can install and activate Sidekick by going to Appearance > Install plugins, and then you get the extra documentation.

I’m sorry to say but when any client rates us with low stars we think that it will not contribute so much on our product improvement, because this demotivates all of our team.

I really am very happy with the options and design of Kalium. But the documentation part is a critical one—which I see lacking at almost every theme.

Since I prefer to customize themes quite a lot (even those like Kalium ), it can be difficult to do. I will have to check out the Sidekick integration.

Another issue which is very important for Europe, and in particular in Germany, is extensive support for adding copyright captions. I came across this earlier on and contacted you because it wasn’t that easy to add a caption for single post header images… with your help I got it working.

I think you would get even more users if there is an option to add copyright credits for every part of content anywhere throughout the theme. I know, that’s challenging but for the user it’s more convenient than to be sued.

If you’re adding this, I certainly give you 5 stars. Plus, I will roll out a campaign for you… Hey, I might even help you with the concept!

How about offering the first theme that offers an entire set of metadata and options to be legally safe?
