Another issue here. The RSS feeds are showing the full article even when I’ve set the reading settings to only show a summary. The previous theme showed a summary only with the same settings. Now with Herald, the full text is shown unless I write in an excerpt manually for the article.
I need help around this because this is allowing automated content scrapers to easily copy and reblog my full content. Please look at this with urgency.
Okay. My bad. Another time a plugin conflict. Thank you for looking into it
For anybody reading this, the theme is fine.
Good to know! Thanks for sharing!

Hi
As far as I have checked everything is working – can you please be more specific and tell us what exactly in menu is not working? For easier debug it would be great if you can contact our support via http://mekshq.com/contact with WP admin details and we will try to help you out.
Thank you
Okay My friend I will record a video from my blog to send it to you
Thank you
Options / Documentation for changing site / content width would be awesome.
On FullHD Monitors content is too wide.
Hi
Can you please send us support ticket via http://mekshq.com/contact/ and our support stuff will try to help you out. Please not that theme is designed that way and that it will took more time to tweak layout of theme because of all layouts that theme has.
Thank you
I have a quick question. Some of my posts will include videos from youtube. So the newbe question is how do I do this? I see the option to set a featured image but no featured video
Hi
As a newbie I would recommend you to start with our documentation http://mekshq.com/documentation/vlog/
As a start you need to install plugin that fetches youtube content for you – http://mekshq.com/docs/vlog-recommended-plugins/
When you finish browsing of documentation please let me know if you have some more questions
I hope that this will help
Cheers!
Probably my last issue – Thumbnails. The theme by default generates over 33 thumbnails per image. This could be okay for most. However, I compress my images and pass them through ShortPixel. Since shortpixel is paid, that costs me money per image/thumb. The theme is causing me pay for 30 images whereas it has always been 3-5 in all of the themes I’ve used in the past. So, can I get a breakdown of the thumbnail usage? As to where each size is used. I’m sure my current setup is only using 2-5 of the total 33 generated thumbs. I want to disable the creation of thumbanils which I do not need.
Hi
You can do this – navigate to Theme Options / Performance and you will see disable option for specific layouts in theme
I know – we rock
Cheers!
Which layout thumb is used as the thumb for related posts at the end of the post? When I disable some layouts, the related post image tends to be the full sized image put into position by css resize. When I enable all layouts then a 300×200 hard cropped image is used. Help?
Figured out! Now, if you could help me with the previous two queries, I’d be done setting up the theme
The trending bar looks nice, but it is doing a css resize of the images which is ruining my pagespeed score. Is it possible to have it crop images and use them exactly at 45×45 instead of doing a css resize from 150×150? Using a larger image and showing a smaller one barely makes sense anyways. So..?
Hi,
The image size which is used by trending bar is a WordPress general thumbnail size. You can change it inside Settings -> Media in your dashboard.
Also, please note that new size will affect only new images, you will need to regenerate old images to that size with this plugin, as described in our documentation: http://mekshq.com/docs/herald-image-sizes-regenerate/
Please let me know if this helps!
Hi, So I use a CDN and serve all resources (including uploads) from cdn.mydomain.com. The theme has an inbuilt lightbox for images, but it does not work here in my setup. When clicking on an image, it is opened directly instead of opening in the lightbox. How do I fix this? My previous theme had no such issues. Can you please help?
Hi
Can you please check if your images in gallery are pointing to attachment page?
Hope that this will help if not please submit support ticket with your WP admin details via http://mekshq.com/contact and we will try to help you out
Thanks!
No, they are direct links to the image files. Attachment pages are disabled by me because they have no use in my setup. I gave your test website a try and it seems that the same issue happens there. Images in an image gallery do work fine, but individual (standalone) images added within posts do not open in the lightbox and instead only take me to the image URL.
Demo page link – http://try.mekshq.com/users/singhnskyahoocoin/herald/?p=203 Notice that I’ve added a medium sized image after the paragraph 1.
Do you have any solutions?
Hi,
Please take a look at Theme Options -> Misc. There is a specific option for single images.
Let me know if it helps!
That is already turned ON. And it only applies to gallery. Individual images are not captured by it. Can you please help? Because I have a tutorial type blog where images are necessary to be zoomed in. Now, clicking the image takes to a blank page and the visitor needs to go back again. Very unfriendly.
It’s been a while. Can I expect a reply? Or that’s it about the support?
Hi
It was weekend and response time is usually slower on weekends but we are aware of your problem so no worries – thank you for your understanding.
1. Can you please re-check “Open galleries and image post format in pop-up” option (clear cache CTRL+R or CTRL + F5)
2. Can you please send us support ticket via http://mekshq.com/contact/ with your WP admin detail and we will try to help you out.
Thank you for your patience
Cheers!
I do understand that. But I only raised my voice again after seeing other comments being replied to while mine not. Anyways, as I already said, the option ‘Open galleries and image post format in pop-up’ is enabled. My cache is all cleared. You need to re-read the option itself it specifically says ‘Galleries & Image post format’. That means it is not doing it sitewide for all images. Is only limiting lightbox to galleries and the posts which are set as ‘image’ in the template. Both of these do not cover my use case where an image is inserted between the content and the post format being ‘Standard’ instead of ‘Image’. Posts with post format as ‘image’ only do a lightbox for the featured image, so that is again not an option for me.
The lightbox works fine on image galleries. It is the individual images which do not open in a popup. I did show you a live example from your own test website and I do not see a reason for you to ask me to recheck my configuration without even re-testing it at your end. Can you refer me to your demo/test websites where the lightbox is working for individual images?
And, no, I cannot send a support ticket with my admin details. I can send in a ticket if it is easier for you to answer there, but providing admin details is unfortunately not possible.
Hi,
I spoke with other developers in the team, option for pop-up for single images in content is not available at the moment and we will add it in the next update!
Does that help?
Thanks
Yes that helps. But is there an ETA available when you’ll be releasing the next update?
This is important for me since it breaks the usability of my website.
Hi
Currently we don’t have exact time – I can’t promise you anything since we have a lot of stuff on our list and usually we have some hierarchy when it comes to new features that we will add in theme.
Thank you for your understanding
for some reason, when we scroll down post pages, the sidebar duplicated the ads and the code gets ruined. What is the problem thanks?
Hi
Do you have infinite scroll on single posts set to ON?
Thank you
Yes we do
Hi,
I’m not sure if we there is another way to solve this instead of deactivation infinite scroll on single pages. Unfortunately, some ad providers have very specific code which conflicts with infinite scroll loading and this is not under our control at all.
Feel free to open a ticket via http://mekshq.com/contact and we would be glad to have a closer look and try to help.
Cheers!
Hi, would it be possible to disable the top bar entirely? :/
Ahh.. Found the option right there in front of my eyes. Sorry! Thanks
You are welcome
HI, I’d like the category pages to display the featured area with sidebar. Is that possible? For example I’d like the following page: http://bit.ly/2m9AZ5R to look like http://bit.ly/2m9GscQ . Thank you for your help.
Hi
You can create Page with Modules editor that lists posts from certain category. Then you can easily setup Section with sidebar.
Hope that this helps
Cheers!

PHP Fatal error: Uncaught Error: Call to undefined function mysql_escape_string()
Searching found me that mysql_escape_string() is depreciated and removed in PHP7.0. So, coming back to the question, is this theme tested and certified to work with PHP 7.0?
Hi
I have checked our theme templates and I cannot find the function that you pointed out. Can you please tell us how did you check this? Maybe it is some third-party plugin that is in WordPress and it is not compatible with PHP7?
Thank you for your feedback
Umm no, because the full error message showed me the location of the error and that was in one of the theme files (functions.php). I’m not saying that your theme is having that issue, you probably don’t.
If you did a direct find for mysql_escape_string() then it will not be found because it will have additional values. Can you please try searching for mysql_escape_string instead? Especially in the functions.php file.
And if I ask you, have you guys tested the theme on a WordPress install running on PHP7.0/7.1? I do not want to purchase first and then finding out that it has compatibility issues with PHP 7.0. So, can you please confirm and give me assurance that the theme itself fully supports PHP 7.0? I’ll have to file for a refund in case it did not work.
Hi,
We have tested this theme with PHP 7 and it is working fine. We also have the info that some of our users run our theme on PHP 7 with no problems.
There shouldn’t be any problem using it so you are free to go
If for any reason you are not satisfied, we would of course give you a refund at any time.
Please let me know if I can help any further?
Thanks
Yes, the theme is indeed working fine on PHP 7.0
You are welcome
Have fun with theme and let us know if you have some questions
Cheers!

Hi,
Yes, demo installation is part of our Theme Options panel, you can see how it looks inside documentation: http://mekshq.com/docs/herald-demo-content-import/
Hope this helps, if you have any other questions just let us know!
Cheers!
I have one last issue before I can go live with this theme.
Image cropping either doesn’t work as described, or I am understanding it wrong.
For background, I am running on a Multisite setup. Most of my photos are 3:2 ratio and the theme is setup like that mostly.
For testing (so I know what happens when a different ratio is used), I changed a section to use 16:9 ratio. I then regenerated thumbnails and refreshed the site. The 4:3 photos were showing empty space either side of the photo. I then uploaded a portrait photo, and it too did the same.
From what I have read in your documentation, images are supposed to be cropped. I don’t know if something else is wrong or I have read it wrong, but I was expecting and would like photos to fill the space (crop) instead of fitting into the space (and leaving a blank area around photo).
The only setting I can find that I don’t know what it should be for your theme is the image sizes under Settings->Media. What should the Thumbnail, Medium and Large sizes be set to?
Scratch that.
I was fixing another issue to get Lightroom to Wordpress uploads working, and in that process had to install PHP-GD extension on my web server.
I just realised that it may have had something to do with the above problem, so regenerated the thumbs again. This time it works.
Can you please highlight this requirement in your documentation for future users. Will save allot of headaches.
BTW: Can’t say this enough, your theme is awesome. I work with building a lot of WordPress sites and this theme is the best, not just for its design, but it’s simplicity, flexibility, support etc. I have had to hack this them far less than any other. In fact, I only have that CSS code from before. The rest is stock. Thanks.
Thank you for your kind words, it is highly appreciated.
Please have in mind that our theme doesn’t do anything regarding image processing. Generally, themes just define custom image sizes in order to match the specific design. All the stuff you are talking about is handled on WordPress backend level and works as such regardless the theme you are using.
We would be glad to consider adding this into our documentation but as I mentioned, it is rather a WordPress issue itself. To put this simple, PHP GD is WordPress requirement, not theme requirement.
Thank you for pointing that out, I hope our info is helpful too.
Cheers!
When we activate unlimited scroll on single pages it makes a blank page when scrolled to the bottom.
Here is an example: https://www.cityofhype.com/gucci-sweatshirt-pink-japan-stores/
Hi
I’m very sorry to hear this, but thanks for letting us know I have addressed this issue to our developers and they are checking why is this happening. As far as I have checked div with ads that you have on site might be causing the problem. In the meantime can you please try and switch on/off that ads place and see what will happen? Also I see that you have WProcket installed on your site – try to switch this one on/off, too.
We will do our best to investigate what is happening and fix problem ASAP.
Also, you can send us your WP admin details via http://mekshq.com/contact and our support will also do debug of your site…
Cheers!
I have switched off ads, no luck. Then I deactivated WPRocket, still no luck. I think it may be a theme issue. Could you let me know once its been resolved that would be great thank you.
Thanks for the info, please keep the conversation with our support team and we’ll do our best to resolve this!
Hi, Love your them, still building a site at the moment and so far very very good and easy to configure.
I only have two small issues.
1. Would love the ability to set the responsive header background colour, or at least make it the Main colour instead of the Accent Colour.
2. On the home page the section Title for Topics etc., seem to use the Title heading colour as the background. But changing that changes all the text colours too. For the site I am doing, I wanted the Topics, etc., backgrounds for the titles to be purple for the theme, but keep the general text black.
Hi
I’m glad to hear this – we are doing our best here mate
1. Basically you can do this wit small CSS tweak. Go to Theme Options / Additional Code and paste/ modify this code:
.herald-responsive-header{
background: #0288d1;
}
2. Try this code:
.herald-mod-title .herald-color{
color: #000;
background-color: #673AB7 !important;
}
Basically you can do this if you selec color of category to be purple and modify text color of module title to black but this should do the trick.
Please let me know if this helps
Cheers!
Thankyou. I already fixed it just before you answered. I actually did the opposite to that. I left the text alone and forced the background on titles to be the purple.
Great, thanks for sharing!
